I've seen so many different thrread that the forum is getting messy. Since we have an official trading thread, maybe we can have an official one for questions too, because after all, this is the Canadian HOT DEALS forum! It's not right when we have more questions than deals. You can ask any question you wan there, ranging from the cheapest 360, HDTVGame delays, Canadian game rental sites all the way to where the cheapest copy of Burnout is. I can assure you that you will get the same amout of replies here, if not more!

Hey, for anyone who pre-ordered Naughty Bear at EB Games/Gamestop, do you know if the preorder bonus code comes in the game case or is it on a seperate card. Want to know when I go pick up the game tommorrow, as apprently know one at the store knows anything about it. Thanks

Does anyone know if it's possible to check an EB Games gift card value on their website? Every time I try to check mine it says I need to enter a PIN, but my card doesn't have one. The "Where do I find these?" link just shows up as an empty pop-up. Very helpful.

...I randomly found this card in my purse, so I have a feeling it's really old/empty anyway, but not knowing is bugging me. =P

I've got a quick question: I have a copy of the Splinter Cell Conviction LE and I was planning on trading it in at maybe an EB or a Best Buy. Do I need to everything associated with the LE? I really like that USB card, regardless of how small it is...
EB doesn't care as they only give values based on the game itself; a CE/LE is worth the same as a regular version.
I understand that, but do I have to bring back all the LE goodies as well? That's all i really want to know...

No, you should only need the the game, case and manual.
No, you should only need the the game, case and manual.
Sweet! Thanks Mr. Griswold.

Question: How long does the gamestop(dot)ca generally take to ship if you select the free shipping option? I had pre-ordered DeathSmiles LE & the release date was June 29th but at the moment my order progress is only at the "verifying" stage. Is that a little slow or is that to be expected? First time ordering from their website so I'm not sure what to expect.
I think older edge or gift cards didn't have a pin (under a scratch off area).. so you'll probably have to go in store to check.
Ok, thanks. Guess that means I won't be able to check until I get back. I have a feeling that even if there was money on that card, it would have been inactive for too long and that $2/month fee would make it $0 by now (According to what the back of the card says).
Would Metroid Prime Trilogy: Collector's Edition be a good buy at $45?
Don't know much about Wii games...

Used btw
Yes. You get 3 full games, plus it's out-of-print and therefore rare. A good gauge would be to check eBay for current prices.

Alright, thanks man appreciate the help.
I don't think I'm going to end up getting it though, if there is anyone in the Vancouver area looking for a copy, I can tell you the location (via PM, to make sure it doesn't go to a lurker).
CrushEm: I had ordered Deathsmiles from them also and was encountering the same issue. I cancelled my order and picked up a copy in store.
It's a good game, but I can't believe folks are spending that much money on a game that should be a XBLA title.

If I wanted to get free shipping from Amazon.ca on a $17 CD could I order it with a game due out in September and hope they ship the CD now, and then cancel the other item?

i think the cd might wind up shipping in september, but i'm not sure about that

try to find something else to add to the order that you or your family/friend needs, like a printer cartridge or book or etc

(you still buy cds? for $17? ;) )

I want this particular CD with bonus DVD. I pre-ordered from Best Buy and the day before it shipped it says out of stock, same thing at FS and HMV, only Amazon has it listed in stock. They all have the regular edition but I don't want that one.

What makes me ask is I ordered a memory stick along with this CD at Best Buy last week and they shipped the stick separately on Friday even tho the CD was expected the next Tuesday. Guess I'll just wait.

I think if you cancel the other item, they'll charge you shipping for the cd.
If you phone customer service, they may waive it for you though.

Sure, but it could have $50 on it too. I'd be too curious to risk throwing it out.

That reminds me... one time I ordered $39 worth of stuff and after a long wait they decided they couldn't get one of the items and finally sent me the rest and since it came in under $39 they charged shipping. I emailed them complaining that it's not my fault they couldn't fulfill my entire order and they refunded the shipping.

Haha I won't throw it out just in case. I was just saying I doubt there's anything left of it. But you never know, right?

Wait, they take $2 off your gift card every month? That is nuts.

Sorry, I should have clarified. The back of the card says “This gift card contains an inactivity fee of $2.00 per month that will be assessed to your account after 24 months of activity. The activity fee is void where prohibited by law.”

And the last time I can remember getting a gift card was Christmas of...2007 or 2008. =P

I really have no clue when it comes to gift cards and fees, so I have no idea if places are still allowed to do that. I won't be able to check until next week, as I'm still having fun on the beach. But I'll be sure to update about this when I get back to Canada and pop into the closest mall.

I remember them passing some laws a few years ago that prevented gift cards from expiring. Anyway, the 24 months thing reduces my level of outrage. Enjoy the beach.
is there a thread for EB/GS.ca coupon codes?
I've never actually seen a GS.ca coupon code. If you've got one feel free to start a thread.

The EB cards no longer expire or are subject to that $2/month fee. I used to work there, and I know for a fact that in Ontario (for sure, the rest of Canada, I don't know), the cards no longer expire. But yes that was the old policy after 2 years of inactivity.

Yeah, I went to check my card yesterday and I still had money on it. Glad they don't expire anymore.

And for those curious, I had a grand total of....$10 on the card that I never used from a few years ago. Better than nothing! :D

hey guys, I'm sorry if this question has already been asked but there are too many pages for me to flip through so...I want to know if an American gamestop edge card (registered with american phone number, address etc.) would work in Canada? Thanks!!

Good question, not sure though. Have you tried calling a gamestop and asking them?

Good thing you didn't throw it out then!

What percentage do you get off strategy guides with preordered games at EB again? Picking up SC2 on tuesdays and wondering if I should grab the CE guide while I'm at it.

I had no idea there was a % but there is a promo where you get $20 credit if you trade in a >$8 TiV game if you have something old'ish laying around you wanted to trade.

I'm thinking of taking in a bunch of Wii games to EB, like around 12. Is that too many to take in at one time? Do they prefer you only bring in a few at one time?

Also I've got the games on a list. Will they give a value for each game or just a total for all 12 games? And do they ever give cash, or only in-store credit?

You can trade in as many titles as you like, they won't mind.

If you give them a list of 12 games, I seriously doubt they'd look up all the trade values. They'll just tell you to bring in the games so that they can scan them. However, 1 or 2 titles they usually won't mind looking up. BTW, go to "www.tivs.ca" if you want an idea of the value of your games.

For trade-ins, EB never gives you back cash, only trade-in credit on an EB Edge card. The good news is that you can use that Edge card at any EB store to buy anything, and you don't pay tax when using the card, e.g. you buy a game priced at $9.99, you only pay $9.99 when using your Edge card. Good luck.

Thanks jouvert, that really helps. I have been looking at TIVS.ca to estimate my values, I'm guessing all EBs give the same value?

Anyone know where I can get Skate 3 PS3 new for under $50 or used for around $30 in Toronto? Long shot I know, I saw it for $50 new and would like to do better since the demo was underwhelming.

Yes, all EB's give the same value.
does anyone know where I can find a [cheap] copy of OVERLORD for xbox360? I've searched everrrrywhere. I really want this game! thanks.
Your best bet would be to find a used copy from either BBV, EB Games, Microplay or your local pawn shop/flea market.

Hello Canadian CAGers

YMMV but I doubt it, I don't think EB price matches at all let alone an online retailer.

No. My friend called up both Walmart and EBgames last weekend asking about No More Heroes 2 for the Wii. Walmart had it brand new for $20 exactly, and EB had it used for $27.99 (I know, complete joke the retailer has become ever since Gamestop came in) so he asks if EB will price match. I told him they wouldn't as they stopped doing that ages ago for anything. Anyways turns out they still don't, so I doubt they'd be willing to match Amazon, as most businesses aren't willing to match online retailers.

Hope that answers your question. Good luck finding it cheaper. I'd check Ebay, and hope I get lucky.

^^ no, EB games does not price match.

If you can find a copy at BBV, they sell it used for $4.99. If you call one location they can check stock city wide.

Alright, I know this may seem extremely lazy on my part, but I figured why not ask for help? I'm looking around for the cheapest price for these games:

Wii

Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Super Paper Mario
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
SSX Blur
Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure

PS3

InFamous
Heavy Rain
Folklore

I'm not asking for any of you to look around for me, I'm already doing that. But if you could tell me the cheapest price you've seen these games go for recently; whatever you can recall, I'd appreciate that. Preferably new/sealed ones you've seen, and not used. I have a couple other games I'm looking for aswell, but they've only just come out in the past few months, and I'm not expecting them to have gone down in price just yet (Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Red Dead Redemption to name them).

Cheers.

Wii:
SSX Blur: $9.99 BBV used will be tough to find, saw it at BBV 1-2 years ago, I owned that game more than 1 time, it was $8+ TIV a long time ago.

Zack & Wiki: $9.99 BBV used will be tough to find, saw it at BBV 1-2 years ago... it was similar priced at WMT I think???

PS3:

InFamous: was $20 at FS or BB recently

Heavy Rain $39.99 BBV used, will be tough to find because of its value of $35 EB credit

Folklore $2.49 BBV used , will be tough/impossible to find because of cheap price

Folklore is $20 at EB games new I believe. Or maybe that was used, can't remember.
