Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles (PSP) Thread

I think normal use slows down enemies, but crush use slows down the environment.

I think. I say so becoz I tried using stopwatch to cross the collapsing bridge and it did not work, but crushing it did work.

the red bones walls? You need to save a maiden to do that.
You'll also come across crystal/ice looking walls that you can't break, and you'll need to save another maiden for those too.

Maiden?

To save the three ladies:

  • Save Terra (she will let you break down the red bone walls):
In Stage 3' (starts out in swampy area with mudmen), at the end of the first part there is a door on top and a wall underneath it. Just jump down to the bottom and break the wall. You'll end up in the bottom half of the next area (the top part has the big ol' skeleton of something). There are some stairs there. Just go down and you'll find her.
  • Save Iris (she will let you break down the crystal walls):
In Stage 4' (froggy land), go all the way through the first part of the stage without taking one of the rafts down the waterfall. Jump across and keep going and you'll come across a series of bridges with skeleton guys monkeying across them. Keep going till you see a blue frog, but don't kill it. Get past it but let it follow you to the end of that area (you need to stay close to it for it to jump after you). Once you get to the area where there are a bunch of golden frog statues, it'll jump on the peg where there is no frog. Then go back towards the bridges, jump into the new gap underneath the bridges, head left, and take the stairs. In the next area you'll need to go through a bunch of fish dudes and at the end will be a room with Iris. (she is cute!)
  • Save Annette (Richter's girl, also required to get the good ending):
In Stage 7, when you hit the clock tower area, go up and break down the red bone wall, and stand on the switch. Then go all the way up that area, and in the upper right will be a cog wheel you can whip at. Whip it good a few times and a door will open right underneath the cog. Kill the bird for the key, and kill the bird's babies for some health back. Head left to the next area of the clocktower.

In the next area, ignore the door with the keyhole right in front of you. Instead, go up the tower until you see a crystal wall. Break it and stand on the switch. Then go all the way down that area and a new area will be open right underneath the first locked door you saw. Go down the steps and in that door will be Annette.
there's only one boss for Stage 5'! Hydra!

succubus is the boss u fight to get to stage 5' (i.e. she is the stage 4 secret boss)

also u dont even have to fight those two guards! since both paths of the stage lead to the same boss, I take the lower path... but to beat that mid-boss I used the stopwatch and wailed on them when they were slowed down.

with that said, that is what makes Hydra so easy... even with 3 heads it moves sloooooooooooow...

you dont even have to attack two of the heads (the fire one and the one that swings around) since theyre so easy to avoid.

correct!

you can find the stopwatch in the area where you save Annette. (you need to have already saved her, becoz if you havent then you cannot re-enter that room)

and stopwatch crash consumes 30 hearts. There is also another stage where you need to do this to obtain an item.
Well I was trippin on the Hydra boss b/c I was wailing on the main one and the health bar wasn't going down. I kept at it for so long but nothing happened :/

There are two bosses on Stage 5' ;O

On the lower path, there are stairs right at the end which lead to a succubus boss fight.

you're thinking of an extra, alternate path within the lower path that leads to lady vampire:

if you do not rescue the maidens, then this is the boss of stage 7. But if you do, you fight the real boss of this stage and they put the old boss in stage 5'.

had you not rescued the girls, the stairwell to reach this boss in stage 5' is blocked off.

That means that there ARE two bosses you can choose from in Stage 5' and you can get to her from the lower path stairs like I mentioned.

Ok Dracula's third and final form is a pain. I can get him to about halfway before he kills me. This is one of the toughest boss battles I have faced in a while. his blood attacks are hard to predict.

After like my 15th try I was finally able to break it down....well somewhat.

What I noticed is that you can hit the bats he shoots out and that ends up damaging him, so I chuck Mr.T and start whipping as well. He tends to turn into a wolf, and right before he starts to move, I jump, since it usually baits him into jumping in the air.

When he is about to do the blood attack on the ground, simply walk (make sure you have a good amount of walking room) and when the forth blood spike pops up, go to where it popped out and crouch there.

When he teleports in the air I just go to one corner, and when he starts popping out the fireballs I just walk again until he's done. When it gets to the point where he fires that homing ball thingy, just whip/use a subweapon on it til' it dissapears, and when Drac turns into bats, let loose on em to do more damage to him.

I forget the rest, but the part that was a pain in the ass for me still was when you get his life really low, he shoots those fire pillars (this time 4-5 come up) and he sends a shockwave after you.

I'll probably fight him again just to write up a FAQ lol

man I jus played thru stage 5'... twice! to verify everything.

that's sum crackhead shyt man, they put two bosses rite next to each other!

the first time I fought him everytime he turned into a wolf he would aim upwards, even though i was on the ground and crouching. It totally caught me off guard the second time around when he dashed straight at me suddenly lol. Anyway what helps me is for me to walk towards the opposite end of the screen just to give me the most amount of reaction time possible, and just see which way he jumps. I think I noticed that when he aims ups, he jumps back when he transforms into a wolf. When he dashes straight at you, he'll turn into a wolf, then jump back and then at you.

His blood attacks is just like Shini said. Give yourself some walking room, and he'll try to attack you 1, 2, 3, 4 times, and then after the 4th one, just stay still and the last attack will come up around you and miss.

Later on I think about halfway through the fight, he'll throw the line of bats out at you again. You can hit those, then he'll go right into the fire pillars beneath you. During the fire pillars as long as you stay away from his arm/cape's length, you will be safe from his blood attack. You can stay outside his range or get close to him so that he extends past you and when he finishes you can whip him a few times.

When he throws out the floating red bubble, it'll go away in 3 hits, so you can either hit it right away or it's pretty easy to dodge. When the ball is out, he'll turn into bat form to scatter and come back. You can hit him now too, but watch out cuz when the bats are back in a group and you try to hit him, sometimes he will throw the whole group of bats at you. Other times he will reform himself.

During the second half when he does his fire pillars, after the second pillar he will throw that shockwave at you. Just a little heads up when he starts the pillars.

After that I think sometimes he will just come out and do a shockwave (that always caught me off guard). Just take notice whenever he comes on screen near the ground. I don't know if the animation is different for his bats and other stuff, but the shockwave I think is caused by him whipping his cape at the floor.

What I did was I picked up the holy water and all the hearts, and basically just got him down as far as I could without dying, then when he is pretty low on the health I unleashed the holy water hydro storm all up in that guy's crack. I also yelled out "yea mother fucker!" as I watched him fall.

That's about all I remember about the fight. Shini got the rest of the stuff. His first half is pretty easy cuz he does the same things everytime. It's after you get him down to halfway that he starts mixing things up and then comes the frustration.

It took me about 15 tries too lol. I think I used up two continues, which is like 4 lives each? And the first time I went in to fight, somehow I had like 5 or 6 lives or something.

I think this was one of the most frustrating dracula fights ever for me. On the other end I think one of the most enjoyable dracula fights was in Portrait of Ruin playing as Richter/Maria :D

It took me literally over two hours to beat Dracula's final form. Toughest boss fight I think I've ever had in a video game by far.

... and now I'm going to try and beat him on the classic Ronod, where I'm sure it's going to be even tougher.

Finally beat the third form of Dracula by the skin of my teeth. I can pretty much fight him until he is at 1/4 left health without getting hit but then the difficulty ramps up one more time before he is defeated. I then fought him as Maria and it was much easier using her.

Anyway, what a great game. While I love it on the PSP, I can't but help imagine how awesome if this game was released for the PS2 years ago, instead of Castlevania Lament of Innocence. I think Castlevania games on the PS2 would have been more popular and we could have seen an original 2.5D Castlevania game on the PS2.

Oh man, don't even remind me of Castlevania III >.>

I never even saw Drac, and I watched some youtube vids...yeesh, I wouldn't have faired well anyways.

That's a waste of money for the PS2 actually. I mean if they did this exact title on the PS2. If they made a 2.5D Castleroid then that's a different story.

I think that the real reason they weren't popular is because the combat aspect wasn't as strong as the other 3D actioners of the time. And the characters are boring.
