There's something to be said for being able to finish a game in a reasonable time. Difficulty settings exist for a reason, and making even the lower ones extremely hard just alienates customers pointlessly.
A challenge is fine but not everyone enjoys grinding away at something, especially when the real reason to play Catherine IMO is the story stuff anyway.
To each their own.
That's why there are hardcore and casual games. This, along with Ninja Gaiden games are definetely on the hardcore side. They reward players who actually spend time and learn the puzzle system or fighting system in the case of Ninja Gaiden. They do not tolerate button mashers and players doing this will see the game over screen endlessly. These games are niche games where casual games are a dime a dozen. The few of us really appreciate the developers bringing "proper" hardcore games like this to us once every couple of years.
People need to know what type of players they are. If you are casual, stick to Bejewel, God of War, and endless amount of shooters. If you are hardcore, you already know what you want as the selection is very limited.
