Chrono Trigger DS Thread - E3 Impressions Post #272

Amazon just sent me an update that the date has been corrected.

Looks like I'll be getting this around Dec. 1st now. December will be a happy month!
 
I will be getting this when it is half price, 40 bucks is too much for any ds game. Especially a game that is over a decade old, even if it is the best from its time. I got the ps chronicles a year and a half ago for 12 bucks and am stuck in the BC era.
 
Hahaha, looks like some of the extras have been revealed. You might want to make sure you're sitting down before reading the second point:
- Two new dungeons: One in the Prehistoric era, and a dimensional one that goes across different time periods.
- The shocker:
Monster Training and Battling
; I guess this includes some multi-player functionality.

Just in case anyone needs further confirmation, the new features were also mentioned on a Japanese game store's website:

Looks like the new info comes from the promotional material Squeenix sent to Japanese stores, much like some of the pre-release info for Daigasso Band Bros. DX.

Isn't the Japanese release going to have a soundtrack CD as a pre-order bonus? I wonder if they're bringing that bonus over to the US.

2 track cd can still be on a regular size CD. Also the wii had no problem with mini cd
 
Would Square Enix hire a symphony to play only two tracks? Heh, I could actually imagine Mitsuda telling the symphony. "Yeah that's a wrap." after 6 minutes of play time.

I agree GC needs to elaborate further on the preorder bonus.

Or they could have just ripped them from the music CDs for the game and GC was too cheap to pay the royalties for more than 2 tracks.

The songs probably were ripped from some import.

The Gamestop preorder bonus thread has confirmed that this is indeed a pretty quarter-assed (not even half) preorder bonus. Better than nothing I suppose, but it sure as heck isn't day one purchase worthy.

It would be if it were 20 bucks. Nintendo should be letting us play vc games on the ds but they are stupid. 40 bucks when someone could get supermario rpg for 8? Hmmmm
If you buy this for 40 freaking bucks the should give you a free rom download on the vc for the game. Then I might think about spending close to 40 bucks for this gem.

Nintendo can't make Square-Enix release Chrono Trigger or any other games on VC. But I agree that they are stupid.

Very interesting. I wonder how all this will work with new game+. Will all the monsters have to be recaptured or retrained? I'd assume they'll transfer from game to game.

Stupid, because there's no reason to do that.

However, now all the people who bitched about this getting re-released can safely sleep tonight knowing their copies are still rare because the internets is about to whine openly about how "omfg, teh original translatzion si teh bettar."

Also however, I could care less - motherfucker still slices a mountain in half.

They should have just let you equip Frog's balls as a weapon. I can't imagine the damage he could deal out with 'em.
 
While I won't lie and say that it doesn't bug me that they got rid of his accent, I'm just glad that we're getting this on the DS in general.

fuck Crono, though. Bitch can't even talk, gets killed, and relies on other people to bring his ass back. Lazy!
 
....Why take out Frog's accent? It helps define his character. It's not a deal breaker, but there's no logic behind it outside of Square Enix fearing kids nowadays would see his dialogue and say "Man, he talk like some old English dude. That like reaidn', and readin' is for $$$S."
 
Sad, Frog's accent made him all the more unique and gave him character. He's no less pimp without it, and I'll still happily get this to be able to play it on the road, but I'm quite at a loss as to why the change.
 
Now if I find out SE re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-releases FF6 and Cyan loses his accent, and thus that great scene between him and Gau gets fucked up as a result, THEN it's time to man the battlestations, torpedos away.

I must be the only one who doesn't mind the missing accents on texts. Accents on voice acting is find but kind of crappy on texts. Just look at DQ4.

Yeah, but back in the day before fancy assed voice acting, the accented text was just another personification of the character. Frog's accent fit the time he was from era (since he's a knight).

btw Spincut Crono got renamed to Cleave, Confuse is now Frenzy. Also the spells use roman numerals.

btw how can they change Frog's accent??? the original version didnt have voice acting at all...

did they add voice acting to this game?? I checked the movie and didnt hear any...
 
Well that is one of the new areas, the battle arena, so I'm not surprised that they went and added a new song for it.

Side note: Ugh, I really hope that new font looks better/more readable on a DS screen, as I could barely tell what many of the words were in the dialog boxes (Some of the letters just sort of blended into each other).
