Chrono Trigger DS Thread - E3 Impressions Post #272

I dont get it... u dont have to say "ni hao ma" to have a chinese accent...

I think u mean manner of speech, an accent is a manner of pronunciation.

you can say "what hast thou" in an american accent

BAM!! taken from the internet's most reliable source of information, wikipedia

"In linguistics, an accent is a manner of pronunciation of a language. Accents can be confused with dialects which are varieties of language differing in vocabulary and syntax as well as pronunciation."

oooooh! see that! The only accent Frog has is that he sounds like a frog.

in japan they dont say "ribbit" btw, they say "gero"

Man you guys are really splitting hairs here. Ted Woolsey did an incredible job translating the original, but I have faith that this will be even better simply because Square Enix's localization team has improved leaps and bounds since then.

I just saw another video of Frog and it seems his formal nature still remains intact. It appears to be a lot more subtle without the accent.

I think most people use accent/dialect synonymously, hence my confusion on the subject.

I was just trying to answer your initial question to the best of my ability, hombre. I would of ignored it if I knew you were asking a loaded question.

More or less, an accent is how you say a word. A dialect is what is being said - kind of like a vocabulary/jargon set.

Also, "would of" is incorrect. Use "would have."

....

Bitches.

You know I intended to use "would've."

:wall:

I officially retire from this thread!

Sigh..

I wish the DS got collectors editions for their games.. or at least a decent pre order bonus for this one..

I wouldve loved a FROG stylus :)
Also however, I could care less - motherfucker still slices a mountain in half.

They should have just let you equip Frog's balls as a weapon. I can't imagine the damage he could deal out with 'em.
A Masamune stylus would make more sense.

Rainbow Sword stylus.

Mop stylus.

Nu stylus.

Ozzie Pants stylus.

Ayla's hot ass stylus.

Look, the list really goes on and on.

It's my opinion that there should be more Ozzie Pants themed things in the world though.

Yeah... free stuff is always good but this game is worth the full price for me.

I just decided that what feature that would make this game even more awesome than awesome is...
playable connectivity with the wii through a synched save file or using your ds as a controller.

being able to play on your HDTV? awesome.
being able to take the same save file and play on the run? awesome.
chrono trigger being the game that you're playing? more than awesome.

poo-poo if someone else already had this idea.

Recent magazine scores (Though I doubt that anyone here would care much):
Nintendo Power - 9/10
Game Informer - 9/10
GamePro - 5/5

I was getting only psyched since it was Thursday (some reason Nov. 20th stuck in my head). Then I check wiki - "NA - Nov. 25th"

:(

Grr I hate damn pirates and all their lame rationales. I wouldnt have bought CT again anyway, its not worth $40. blah blah. Then dont play it at all... but you cant can you.. and good share of you would have gone retail to play if true Copy protection existed but you threw your vote away saying this game series is not worth bringing back. Nice to know idiots like this will be playing the game week before me.

Just look at all the dumb things being said in there.

"If they’d priced it abit better than this wouldn’t have been as bad I imagine. "

"Stop complaining and make good games a reasonable prices. Keep crying big business. Your tears sustain me."

"Pure FUD."

"Take that SE, fuck you. You deserve it."

God, get over yourselves you idiots.

Cost is never an excuse to pirate. Aside from that, the DS cart new is still cheaper than finding the original SNES cart used.

This makes me just as disappointed to find out that World of Goo supposedly has a high rate of piracy.

What's the deal here folks? There's no restrictive DRM, the game is freaking Chrono Trigger, and is really not all that expensive when you compare it to what it would cost you to get the original SNES cart. There is zero room here for piracy and the people who are doing such should know better.

I happily pre-ordered this via Amazon and will be a proud owner of my copy post-thanksgiving.

Surprisingly enough, copies in Japan of this game was super cheap. I got a complete one for the hell of it a few months ago for five bucks.

Makes it even more difficult to understand.

You must of have change your mind about not buying it while you were posting. :)

That because RPG is a lot more popular in Japan than USA and they printed a lot more copies. Also used game there tends to be complete and in good condition. In Japan you can find most SNES RPG complete for cheap

Sometimes games printed in big quantities still end up being expensive - FF7 is a good example.

Right.

FFVII is the exception than the norm. Also in Japan games are more likely to get reprint. In Japan FFVII for example got a reprint in 2001 and another print in 2006

Bullshit.

I don't have a crystal ball, but I really doubt piracy is going to have any substantial impact on sales.
I base this on the fact that CT is going to appeal to a niche group of people, I think anyone who has any interest in CT is going to want to buy it for collective purposes.

My opinion is that Square Enix wants to use piracy as a scapegoat to justify to their investors why sales for CT are not fantastic , rather than try to explain why they invested resources into porting a (13?) year old game.

People have been pirating DS games for a while. It's not the big games like CT that I'm worried about.

How does everyone feel about the effect of used games on the sale, or maybe those of us who are only Gamefly-ing it to play through the added stuff? They're not helping either.

I'm willing to wager than anyone that has the means to download and play illegal DS games has been playing Chrono Trigger on their DS for a while with the SNES emulator they have for it.

You make it sound like CT will make or break SE for investors. Games like FF13 will do that and not some DS game of budget way under a million dollars.

One would think that it doesn't matter how significant a game is to the overall portfolio of a company, they still have to answer to their investors.

Either way, I think CT is going to sell pretty well. My point being is that if it fails, they have something to point their finger at. If it does well... well then everyone wins.

I'm just calling out their "our sales are gonna be teh horrible because of piratez!"

I'm sure if S-E games weren't overpriced, they would sell better.

Honestly, I can't see why this game is $40. Yes, it's worth $40 but only the people who've played it will know that. It's going to turn away a lot of people who've never played the game... especially since it doesn't have fancy graphics or Final Fantasy in the title. It is basically a port with a few extra areas.

Better but not more money. The way SE DS' pricing works for them. First they get $40 from hardcore fanboys and get the mass market when it drops to $30 and below. Only way this will change is if hardcore fans doesn't go along with it. Good luck with that.

Does anyone know how well FFVI Advance sold? With all the hype and love the hardcore FF purists were spouting you'd think the game would have gotten a bunch of sequels by now.

This game is getting just as much hype (can't think of a more deserving game of course) but I highly doubt they'll be in proportion to sales.

This might have been answered before, but I can't find it...is CTDS going to be stylus-only control or can I do more.."classic" control? I hate it when games force the stylus control.

/tk

There's no way I'd ever pay $40 for Chrono Trigger, over 10 years ago when I bought it new I barely paid that much... I like Chrono Trigger but no SNES port is worth $40. SE is just being greedy. I bet they spent less porting CT over than most indie developers spend on their $20 bargain bin games...

I used my Fable 2 and Call of Duty World at War Amazon gift cards on my Chrono Trigger order bringing the game down to a much more reasonable $20.:D

Sadly though the shipping date is listed as December 1st, hopefully they'll get it out on Monday.
Is it 6 months ago again? Where we "enjoyed" people complaining about the price?
People will complain about the price of a game as long as that price is not free.

I think half the people in this thread expect Squeenix to pay them to get the game.
