Cloverfield Movie Thread - DVD Out on April 22nd
You can see the corner of the cameras display (HD part very visible) on 1-18-08.com on the 12:04 a.m. picture with Jamie, Rob and Hud

Looking through the pictures not only is the date off, but times too. It was almost 1 a.m. when the shit when down according to the clock in the kitchen. I do like how the movie starts (rob and beth in bed) and ends with 6:42 a.m. (um, under bridge)
Yes, the dates and times on the 1-18-08 photos are totally off...
By nearly a year and a half. Cloverfield takes place in May 2009.

Anyways, soodmeg, I thought you said you'd be done with this movie by today. Could you please live up to your promise and, like, GTFO so we can get back to our regularly scheduled movie discussion? Seriously, you sound more e-insane than me, and trolling you is too easy. Chill and go somewhere else for happy fun times.

He stopped...Your post above is blatantly flamebaiting...cut it out.

You know if Rob and crew found out something about the creature, like a weakness or something that the army can use to defeat it, then their death would have some meaning as they would have been considered heroes or something...but sadly they died a meaningless death. I seriously doubt they were the only ones in the city recoding the events.

Yeah. Me troll? No, I just bust people who try to make points that dont exist. I crushed every single lame ass point you had so you fall back to GTFO.

Yeah get back to your movie discussion if you can call it that. You nor any on this site could troll me. All I do is back what I say up instead of spouting lame ass insults with paper thin facts.

Linkin I haven't stopped a god damn thing dont fucking speak for me.
Not many people have talked about the small creatures the main creature dropped off. We know in the field hospital scene
we see one of the creature in a containment box..but it is unknown if it is dead or knocked out...but the army had captured one. As for the bite...what do you think would cause the stomach, internal organs to explode like that. I was thinking it might have been scary as shit if the bite was a way for the creature to reproduce by infecting the host with some of the smaller creatures that use the host to gestate and a few hours later the host explodes and more of those little creatures come out of it. Honestly if that was the case, then yes it would be time to nuke the city as there was a strong chance of an outbreak.
That's what I thought was going to happen too. As soon as she was bit, I was thinking, alright she's going to either turn into the parasite or spawn a bunch of new parasites. But apparently, our human biology couldn't handle whatever poison or enzyme was passed through the bite, and resulted in the exploding abdomen. Yuck...

I am glad the camera only caught the silhouette of her exploding. I think I would have thrown up if I saw it in combination with the shaky cam.
Yes because a consumer level camera like that nor a professional level camera could NOT survive an ordeal like that without some sort of heavy duty protection. There is such thing, but I can't remember who makes them.
Dunno if it's real or not, but here is supposedly the camera they used.

It looks pretty heavy duty to me and a heck of a lot bigger than my rinky dink 250$ camera i bought a few years ago.

They don't say anything about night vision on it though. Maybe that was a bit of an embelishment from the writers.

Wait what????

Are you saying that is the camera they shot the moive on or that is the camera that the movie is suppose to be shoot on.

Either way I dont believe that for a second. Not for one second. The picture quality was way to good to come for a shitty little step up camera like that. No way no how.

I think both. But the ebay one was the back up camera.

If that's the case, then Rob either spends way too much money on shit, or he makes porno's on the side :p

"Cloverfield" is shot entirely from a video camera's point of view and THIS is that camera!!

After rereading it numerous times, I am going to agree with ITDEFX on how to interpret it. It's specific in an ambiguous way lol.
I think whoever has seen the movie will have a better ability to judge whether this is the same camera used by Hud. Unless of course you dont see his camera at all. In which case I guess the ebay guy means this is the camera (or same type of camera) used to film the home video parts.

They didn't really actually use that camera for much. It was purchased as a "backup" to the main filming cameras, which were much, much higher-end, professional movie cameras, such as the Panavision Genesis and the Thompson Viper. As you can see in the listing, that camera only filmed for less than one hour, and it's unlikely that any of it's footage was actually seen in the finished film.

Okay, that earns some respect right there. High five.

According to a quote on the page, I am taking it to mean that this was suppose to be the camera they used for the home video camera parts. I haven't actually seen the movie yet to compare if this is what the movie camera looks like though. You guys are a better judge of that than I am.
you know what? I need to watch the credits next time more carefully. I am sure the credits will show "Shot on..." or special thanks to and the name of the company who designed the camera. That would give us an indication of what cameras were used.

They used Sony F23, Thompson Viper, and Panasonic HVX-200 cameras.

I've found out now that they actually didn't use any Panavision Genesis cameras, as IMDB states. It was a combination of the above three.

There was the one scene that was shot while they were on the roof. It was the scene of the explosion, right after the "earthquake". That one was especially grainy. I would believe that that camera shot that scene.

See now that would have been more believable. The less light there is, the more grain the video has.

This is going to make for an excellent DVD. If it's true and it does come out in April, then I'm not going to go back to the movies to see it.

I really hope they pack in a good amount of extras...
I love this thread! =D

For those wondering about Lily's heels...lol there are scenes where she takes them off (climbing the stairwell) but she can clearly be seen holding them in her hand, so she can put them back on later. And it fits in perfectly with a womans mentality, she prolly bought those expensive heels jsut for that party, shes not about to throw them away.

For the poster who askes where Robs car is, welcome to New York City, where noone has a car. I know multiple people that make six figures and live in NY and none of them have a car. The cost of parking a car in NYC per month is probably more than the rent or mortgage you'd pay in most other parts of the country.

Also, Robs apartment where the party takes place is impossibly large for NYC, that place would rent for $10,000 a month. I assume that he lives with his brother and Hud, and probably 4 other roomates in order to maintain that awesome place in lower Manhattan.
Rob is the VP of the Slusho drink company. He's got crazy money as the drink (in the movie world) is crazy popular

April sounds WAY too soon to be true. I'd love it in April though
Mao, a mod over at DVDtalk, has confirmed that the DVD drops sometime in April:

Check post #24
Damn, outstanding. Although it will probably be HD DVD (no Blu Ray) right? Since Paramount is still HD DVD exclusive. Unless the Warner move causes them to at least support both.

But from the camera shooting, would it even be worth it to get it in hi def? This would probably just make the motion sickness that much worse (at least for my wife, I dont' mind).

Dvds usually come out 3 months after release. Look at saw 4

Movie release Late oct . DVD mid Jan

So 3 1/2 months

so i would expect this out first week of may

They're pushing DVDs releases out much faster these days in order to maximize the profit, while it's still fresh in consumers' minds and since (A) theater attendance is way down and (B) piracy is somewhat rampant (i.e. it's easy enough to download new theater releases if you know where to look and also easy enough to get new theater releases on the street in most cities - this way the studios think they are capturing more of that 'pirated' money).

So April isn't too much of a surprise.

Yeah DVDs come out a lot faster than they used to. Anyone remember back in the VHS days? Usually took about a year after it left the theater. Even when DVDs first came out, there was roughly a year turn-around time. I think now it's about a 3 month turn-around after the movie leaves the theater.

I'll probably buy this on DVD.

I just saw this, and I was wondering if anyone noticed something in the end (I searched through the last 5 pages or so and didn't see anything, so..)

At the very end when it cuts back to Coney Island and the camera is looking over the water before it shows Beth and Rob, did anyone notice something hit the water really far out? Possibly the monster?

yes, all of us
yes, all of us
No, I was looking for it, and didn't see it. Of course I am in the way back of the theater so if it was a small and very far in the ocean, then I missed it.

It must have been a tiny spec from my point of view. I dunno if I want to sit closer just to see that spec as I already got sick from the shaky cam.

wait for the dvd.....or get the torrent....

not to spill over from the HD vs BR discussion but like I said over there its only a matter of time before Paramount decides to switch to blue ray. I have already given up on HD-DVD.

If we do get it on HD-DVD, this might just be the last title released from Paramount on HD-DVD.

Uh, that's not really clearly stated anywhere. They don't name what company he's going to work for, so saying that he's working for Slusho is pure guesswork.
Respect, huh...
Yeah, dude. He totally stood up to having words put in his mouth by a mod, which is cool.

Jesus how annoying can Soodmeg be?! If you were paying as close attention as you thought you were she wore her heels out side BECAUSE OF ALL THE fuckING BROKEN BUILDINGS AND GLASS LYING ABOUT!!! Who in their right mind is going to run bare foot thru that? She takes them off when needed i.e. climbing the stairs and scaling the roof, and wears them when nessasary. I don't recall seeing a foot locker anywhere in downtown Manhattan.

As for the battery being fully charged when he opened it in the electronics store, i for one have purchaced 4 phones in store and ALL of them had fully charged batteries NIB, but hey, maybe i was just lucky

And i really don't remember the last time i saw any flashlights at Best Buy. You wouldn't come across as such a jackass if you actually thought things thru. I'm sorry you didn't like the movie, and in no way is this supposed to make you like it at all. Just save yourself the headache by thinking things thru next time, please, for all our sakes.
