I think Batman & Robin at least knew the audience it was going after.
What audience is that? Schumacher acknowledged he was trying to make the movie more campy and less serious (in an early interview, he suggested its time Batman "get over" his parents death), inspired by the '60s TV show, but this left the critics dismayed, comic fans disgusted, and the general audience disinterested. Even fans of the '60s TV show weren't into it, because they'd rather have Adam West.
Metroid: Other M is not as bad as people say. The story was a bit of a departure for a Metroid title- sure... but the gameplay was a perfect fit. Even the experimental controls of first-person-pointing worked great.
I'd argue even the gameplay was filled with flaws, though not as badly as the story. I thought the simplified controls were fine, but I thought the SenseMoveTM was an interesting experiment that didn't pan out.
Also, requiring you to finish off the end boss using a weapon you weren't even aware you'd unlocked and weren't told how to use (the Super Bomb) was a significant gameplay design failure, as was ending with a "hidden pixel" puzzle, that you can't beat until you realize (for most people, completely by accident) that you're supposed to be hovering over a "hidden pixel."
Those are just the more major ones. I could list more gameplay problems, but I don't want to de-rail this thread more than I already have (for which I apologize).
