[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Are any of the platinum games exclusive or can they all be purchased in nintendo's online store?
None of them are exclusive and all of them can be purchased in the shop.

As for Club Nintendo, I think the writing is on the wall; it is definitely moving towards digital only rewards.
While I doubt many will agree, there are two things you need to keep in mind.

1) Club Nintendo NA has been pushing digital in one form or another for years. Like last year they offered the eShop gift card with purchase of SMT IV and FE, several buy X and get a digital copy of Y, most of the new items have been digital games, etc.

2) While it's hard to deny it looks like Nintendo is going to push more digital offerings, don't forget that physical rewards have been far and few between for quite a while. In a lot of ways Nintendo is really just adding more rewards that happen to be digital, than completely killing off and forgetting the physical side or at least thats what it seems like anyway. Only time will tell really.

Problem with the warriors games is that they do a GOTY/complete edition. With all the DLC packs for Hyrule Warriors, I'm going to wait, even though I actually want it.
Musou games don't really do GOTY / Complete editions as much as they do incremental upgrade editions, like Street Fighter IV. In either case, I sincerely doubt you're missing much and even more so that Koei would release a complete edition in the west (we couldn't even get Kaizoku Musou 2 or Shin Gundam Musou for the Vita...).

I know this game is being developed by a 3rd party, but has Nintendo ever published a GOTY/complete edition?
Well, yes and no. Since Nintendo doesn't do a lot of DLC in the first place and is usually cool enough to include these things as bonuses (like Luigi Bros in 3D World instead of simply selling the game), they don't have much reason to do a GOTY / complete edition in the first place. However, they've done things like release Super Mario Bros. U with Super Luigi Bros. U and since the latter is DLC for the former, you can theoretically count it as a GOTY / complete edition.

Well the nice thing about the Wii U is that there is no sub fee to play online.

Only reason I tolerate the cost of PS plus is because of the "free games" (really they are just rentals ). No way in hell would I pay a sub just to play on psn. Which is why I stick to 14 day/monthly trials on XBL.

At least Nintendo isn't charging for a service that should be free (ala online pc gaming).

I rather pay a small monthly fee than having to hope / pray that Nintendo implements online in the first place, but to each their own I suppose.

Honestly, it depends on what and how they do the subscription for me to fork over money. What games could they offer (or discounts)? Will they make the games bound to account (instead of system)? Why am I even thinking about this?

honestly as someone who has both ps4 and wii u the wii u's online structure is soooooo behind the competition that they have to make online play free. plus psn has a bunch of free to play games (and lots more comming) that dont require plus so thats a well .... plus lol. not to mention ps+ offers so much value (especially to multi sony console owners) that it isnt even close imo. that beiny said nintendo give me zelda now !!!! :D

Not to delve too far into off-topic territory, but the Wii U has no sub fee to play online because they really have no (first party) games that incorporate online play, Mario Kart 8 aside.

I'll admit I'm not very familiar with the Wii U but most of the first party/exclusive games I would love to play online, are local co-op only.

Considering how far behind the curve they are with their whole online structure. It would be ridiculous for nintendo to charge for online play. You get what you pay for.

Naturally, but thats at that point we're getting way too far into semantics (which is something I believe you realized). All I'm really saying is, if Nintendo were to take online seriously and implement it in more* games, then I would be okay with paying an online fee within reason of course.

* The other day I had someone tell me that Nintendo fixing the eShop would "only matter" to people with the system and wouldn't impact sales. While I understand the logic to a degree, I think a lot of people forget just how "behind the times" the Wii U is. Like when I imported God Eater 2 for the Vita, I didn't question if it had online (it didn't, but does now), because this sort of thing goes without saying now a days. However, you look at a game like Hyrule Musou and you need to genuinely ask whether or not online is included. Same goes for DLC too. You buy CoD on Sony or M$ side and you expect to get screwed with micro transactions / map packs, where as I think Free Fall was the only DLC the Wii U got and that was when it was made free for all.

the club nintendo exclusive skins is actually pretty cool. and if the Europe scarf edition comes to north America I might grab. I Can wear it with my infamous beanie. Kappa

Yeah, I don't see how they don't see $$$

Its time for nintendo to become greedy lol
they have been greedy for eons lol

.no free games service like ps+/games for gold
.they keep prices of their first party games at msrp till the end of the console gen
.make you buy multiple controlers to play certin games on the eshop on the wii u
.include small hard drives which force you to buy external hard drives
.do things like not making a usb gamecube controller so you must buy the adaptor even for the new gamecube esque controller they are making for smash bros
.if you lose game data you have to buy it again (correct me if im wrong) unlike psn and xbox live which lets you simply download them again if deleted

and more. mind you all of the big three have shown greed at times so im not being biased lol

Nintendo is an odd combo of greedy and stupid. They will make deals with companies like GoodSmile (Figma / Nendoroid), release the dumbest toys (I saw a red Pikmin at TRU and instantly thought "why couldn't this be a Club Nintendo prize?" or Mario Kart racers) and then they don't make CEs for most games or do so in a terrible way (Mario Kart 8 being limited to a single physical Nintendo store). Ironically some of A causes B to be a bigger issue, like if we had a bunch of Zelda junk being offered it would lose some awesomeness in our eyes and I think thats part of the reason people are hyped for Amiibo, but at the same time not capitalizing on a market where there is demand is just bad business.

1) I don't see why in the WORLD you're bringing up Plus / GWG when they're subscription based rentals and a closer to "paid" than Club Nintendo is.

2) They don't make you do anything. Some of the problem is how they brought over BC, but at the same time who wants to argue this way is worse than nothing? Sure they could have done better, but they also could have done nothing, so I think buying a controller is a lot simpler than buying a Wii, the game and the controller, though thats just me. Lets also not forget that sometimes companies make these choices, like Just Dance 2014 requires a Wiimote to play and thats not Nintendo's fault, just like some PS3 games require the Move and other Xbox games the Kinect.

3) Not to be semantic, but this is a two way street. On one hand, I think Nintendo's eShop system, the amount of DLC the Wii U gets and such are so poor that I rather have the pathetic 32 gb than paying another $20+ for 100+ gb installed. On the other hand, Nintendo allows booting from external HDDs and other such devices, which is simpler than other consoles and can be found for relatively cheap. Like I got a USB 3.0 500 gb external HDD from BB for $15 and according to reports it can't be cracked open to use as a drive, so it would be ideal for the Wii U.

4) So, it's somehow worse to make an adaptor that allows people who currently have GC controllers a simpler alternative to use their previously worthless controllers than to make a whole new line of controllers that use USB and forces everyone everywhere to buy it if they want to use it. Okay. Makes sense to me.

5) You can freely redownload and you can also transfer to another device (this moves the activations to that device so you can download from that instead of the other one).

I mean, I don't want to defend Nintendo, because they do a lot wrong, but you have some terrible reasons. Why not go for something infinitely simpler and much harder to defend like, I don't know, the inability to play Bluray / DVD movies or region locked? I mean, you can argue we all have another device that can do that, but when push comes to shove it's just Nintendo looking to avoid the licensing fees.

Lol, I agree with you 100%

You just got a fan.

You mean like the Wind Waker HD LE that was Gamestop exclusive? That thing did fly off shelves.
I bought a Zelda Wii U at Gamestop since that was the only place with it available I was willing to go, in other words Best Buy sold out. Then my girlfriend went to high school with a assistant manager at a local Gamestop and he was able to special order a limited edition of Windwaker HD long long after it sold out everywhere.

On topic; I collect all kinds of Zelda games so Im thinking Hyrule Warriors is gonna be a day one for me. The OOT skin is DOPE! Cant wait to check this game out.

Maybe this is obvious to everyone else, but did you notice why they are called "intend to buy" surveys?

N"intend"O.

I thought it was pretty clever. Maybe it is just my marketing expertise, but I hope someone at Nintendo planned that.

I'm getting Wii U soon.  Should I register it for the coins right away, or do you think Club Nintendo might do some kind of "register a Wii U for cool stuff" promo some time in the future?

Unless you're planning on spending the coins immediately or feel the need to reach Gold/Platinum status, you should probably just wait for a promotional deal. Who knows, it might net you an additional free game.

Can someone quote where the game values were listed in this thread. Someone had it broken down by $$.

Are any of the platinum games exclusive or can they all be purchased in nintendo's online store?
Someone answered you but for the current Club offers, not the Platinum prizes. You can dig back in the thread to find the full list, but the two biggies are Game & Wario and DKCR 3D which retail for $29.99. Then the next tier is NES Remix and maybe one other at $15, and Earthbound at $10. As far as I know, they are all purchasable through the shop - nothing exclusive about them being platinum rewards, which is part of the issue many had with it.

.if you lose game data you have to buy it again (correct me if im wrong) unlike psn and xbox live which lets you simply download them again if deleted
Yeah, admiralvic already covered it but just wanted to reiterate that this is way off base. You can redownload all you want on the Wii U and 3DS (and Wii for that matter - this is nothing new). The only issue is the lack of easy portability for your account. You can transfer it to a new system, but you can't simply log in to multiple systems like you can with the PS3/PS4.

What is difficult is if your system dies or you sell it/have it stolen. The games are tied to the system instead of to the account, though it is sort of a hybrid now with it relying on both a little. Now it is much easier to transfer stuff to a new system - so you can buy a new one/upgrade and transfer then sell/trade the old one with little trouble. That used to be harder with the original Wii.

But you've always been able to redownload stuff if you delete it. In fact, this is one way to manage the 32GB on your system without having to hook up an external drive (though that is easy enough even though it needs to be self-powered which is slightly annoying).

Might as well release the CE in Puerto Rico with only 10 copies exclusive to a CVS there.[/quote] hey, I live in Puerto Rico. That would be awesome.

If there is one thing I can guarantee about Club Nintendo, it's that there is no advantage to registering games early. All this does is decrease your buffer for promotions (one of those buy a 3DS and a game and get one free promotions is worth around 240 coins), limit your options and with prizes rarely added or have absurd price tags, you will either miss nothing or couldn't afford it in the first place.

Some of my post play surveys mysterious disappeared when I logged in today. I checked my To-Do list and they're missing from there too and don't even show as Expired. I know I had at least until Sept. 17 to do them. Probably lost about 50 potential coins.

Guess I'll slog through what's left now since I don't want to lose any more coins and no point sitting on them since they expire next month.

I still haven't picked my Platinum reward. Will probably just pick Game and Wario strictly for the coins and DDP.

I bought Excitebike & Super Mario Bros 2, but neither of them showed up in my club nintendo.

But My Kid Icarus 3DS did?

What info am I missing.

Everything is linked up correctly.

You will lose your saves if you delete and redone load later since saves are bundled with the actual game and cannot be separated

Personally, i use the codes right away because I don't like to hold onto trash.
That just sounds like you don't value your time more than anything else.

Maybe you missed it when searched or maybe they didn't register correctly. I had it happen once and all I had to do was call Nintendo and they gave me the survey within 10 minutes. Mind you, that was like 3 years ago and since those days their CS has gone to hell (I'm still waiting on my DDP...).

OK another question. What is DDP and what do you mean by coins? Do you get more club nintedo coins for downloading games (like a post play survey) or is nintendo's online currency also called coins?

I went ahead and got Donkey Kong Country Returns 3DS. Not bad; it's just like DKC for the SNES/GBA where I have both good and bad memories. I could never get past one of the later mine cart levels. But that was like 15 years ago, I think I have grown a little smarter and a lot bigger stones to try it again.

ddp= digital deluxe promotion is for the 32gb consoles only and earn you 10% back in points for all Wii u eshop purchases. So a $59.99 and will net you 599 points or a $7.99 game 79 points. For every 500 points you then receive a $5 eshop credit you can redeem

DDP is the digital deluxe promotion that DX model Wii U's come with. Basically, it's a 10% cash back program for digital games and for whatever reason Nintendo has been giving active codes via Club Nintendo.

In addition to some people being disappointed with the all digital elite reward line up and the fact that nothing was exclusive (unlike Doc Louis Punch Out given during the first year), Nintendo caused some problems by adding "disproportionate" rewards. You see, unlike Gold where everything is $4.99 besides a single game for $3.99 (if I recall correctly), Platinum has 2 games at $30 and then sharply declines to $15 or less for the remaining rewards. This choice not only actively devalues low tier choices, but adds disproportionate rewards to DK and to a greater degree Game & Wario. Like NES Remix (next most expensive game after those 2) only offers like 20~ coins and 150 DDP, where as Game & Wario / DK offer 40~ coins (plus were eligible for intend to buys for another 10 unlike everything else), plus Game & Wario gives 2x the DDP of the next highest item.

Naturally this makes Game & Wario the hands down best choice unless you really want one of the other prizes and it's so obvious that it brings into question why Nintendo went this route.

So wait, I'm clueless on DDP too. Is that something for earlier adopters or is that still going on? I got my Wii U for Christmas last year but haven't bought anything in the store aside from free games I've received from Nintendo.

it for all Wii u owners until December 31st 2014. It only apply to the 32gb consoles though the 8gb consoles are not eligible

It's still going, but it ends on 12/31/14 and is limited to people that own a DX Wii U (so if you bought a standard one, you're not eligible). With that being said, if you got digital games and own a DDP eligible console, then you can go here, sign in with your Nintendo ID and see how many points you have / if you have any vouchers.

Yo how many blocks did that game take up? I've seen it listed as 17668 and 17693 blocks. The one I got was 17665 blocks. Downloaded fine I guess.

I have a Wii U and all, but to get to $60, I'd rather sink that into a disc since most Nintendo games keep their value throughout time. Plus I always have a thing for box artwork. I'm from the 90s so big, colorful boxes always appeal to me.

It was something close to that...translates to over a gigabyte I think. I'll back to you in a few hours on that. Also for some reason my download got interrupted like a billion times. I had to put my 3DS next to my wireless router to get it done (still froze up every now and then). Usually both router and 3DS are pretty stable so I wasn't sure what was going on with...oh, Nintendo's servers. Nevermind I figured it out.

To be fair and completely honest, DDP fails for a number of reasons (minimal storage space basically forcing you to buy an external device, no "insurance" for promotions, usually more limited than the disc counterpart [Luigi U is an add on for Mario U digitally and its own game physically], CN vouchers are redeemed right off the bat, rarely does anything go on sale, not difficult to save $5+ on the physical version, etc), but it's still nice to see Nintendo offer those who want to go all digital some sort of perk.

I only buy physical as well, but just from the free game promotions and the digital only/Virtual Console purchases I've made over the past couple of years I've gotten $25 in certificates.

Just saying you don't really have to buy the full games to make use of the promotion.

Speaking of, it's kinda silly to only do it for two years, they should just do it for the entire lifetime of the console... I get that it was something that they wanted to put on the box for early adopters, but I don't think they actually sold any consoles because of the promotion.

Like I said, greedy and stupid.

Light bulb! Conspiracy theory time!

What if Nintendo put the two year limit on DDP because they planned on turning CN into a completely digital program by 2015?

That actually makes sense... Which means there's no way it's something Nintendo actually came up with.
