[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Thats the one I agree with.

Wouldn't that be absurdly insulting if that was the case? Nintendo Worker #1 "So we have to award those chumps that bought our games and filled out those surveys." Nintendo Worker #2 "How about we offer them something that has absolutely no value, such as our lowest selling 3DS and Wii U games. Well except for The Wonderful 101, we don't want to make those fools think we're offering good games." NW #1 "I like this idea!"

I don't see whats so bad or weird about that. It was a neat collectible (would anyone complain about it being a CN reward?) and it doesn't devalue the game in question. While I can't speak for others, I am getting sick of companies trying to sell the "its not removed content, but actually special content you get for free," which is oddly similar to the sales pitch the "CN is free" people try to sell. In either case, the only thing I really respect about Nintendo at the moment is that they're not trying to make DLC a sales tool (more or less) and just give me a complete game.
Was really hoping W101 would have been on that Elite list.

True, if the shell was an elite reward no one could complain. And it it's nice that we don't have to download and pay for extra stuff.

I wonder if Nintendo pulled strings when that Sonic Lost World DLC came out for free...would have expected SEGA would have charged for that.

It goes for about $20 on eBay, which is where I'd sell it.
I'm just glad I got it free...I like the DK gameplay but I'm not sure if it's even worth $20. Need to play more before I figure it out.

If you think you can get $20, then go for it, but thats not what I'm seeing on eBay. It seems like most of the completed auctions are in the $15 range with AMPLE copies for sale now in $15 ~ $18 range. Then don't forget you're paying about 10% in eBay fees, plus you're going to have to pay shipping (plus possible supplies) and all of this assumes you can actually find a buyer in the first place. Though to each their own I suppose.

I can say from experience the Nintendo reps in my area are clueless. The one guy at BB was telling me how awesome the vita is and I could tell he worked for a game company...turns out he was a Nintendo rep. I saw him again at a gamestop and asked about the AR card promo that they were supposed to have. He hadn't heard of it. The next time I saw him and asked, he said our area isn't participating in it, even though it was listed on the website. He went on to bitch at the gamestop employee for them not having up the new mini display (small cardboard thing, that would take two minutes to set up) set up. The whole time I am thinking to myself. Isn't this guy a merchandiser? Shouldn't he be setting up displays and shelving product? If he doesn't even put up promo stuff, what exactly is his job?
Sounds about right.

Would have loved to see more people try it.

People would have complained. The only way for people not to complain is for the items to be legitimately good (hahahah!) or have knowledge of what the alternative is. So while people say they would be happy with a say, Yoshi Plush, thats simply because they know this year was all digital and thats better than the game, though without that knowledge I doubt anyone would be singing the praises of the plush.

I wouldn't be shocked if it was part of the deal to make Sonic: Lost Worlds an exclusive or the sales were so low that Sega tried to invigorate them with the DLC.

Just a heads up in case, tonight may be the last night to pick your Gold/Platinum rewards.

I plan to go with Donkey Kong Country 3D as it seems to have the most value, and I don't own a Wii u either. Any other suggestions?

You have until Midnight tomorrow.

Thank you for your loyalty—and be sure to choose your gift by 11:59 p.m. PT on August 15, 2014.
If you lack a Wii U, then DKCR3D is probably the best choice.

I sold the Club Nintendo code for DKCR3D for $5 during the Pokemon promotion they had a few months back and the full digital game with th code is going for $8, $9 now, that blows my mind. I'm surprised there's no market for it, how many better handheld side strollers are there?

Why? This is quite literally nothing more than supply / demand.

You figure, there was a fairly widespread and vocal outcry that this years rewards sucked. This isn't the normal 5 or 6 people on a single forum were irked and quite vocal about it, this was most of the people that posted in this thread, a number of news outlets, most of the comments I saw on N4G and the fact that the trading section had a fairly high number of people trying to unload their code. Naturally this meant that the supply was high and it didn't help that DKCR had a number of things working against it.

Ignoring the fact that the game is a port, it released a little over a year ago and with minimal to no effort I noticed it can be bought for as little as $24.99 physically at Target and probably even less if more effort was applied. Add to it that Nintendo's digital distribution practices are generally disliked and DKCR is not a game I would say "gains value*" by being digital, all work to make decrease the games value. Combine it with the fact that DKCR is probably the best title in terms of resale value (highest price, largest demographic and best overall quality besides Earthbound) meant that supply well exceeded demand and now we have people who just want to sell and are willing to undercut the market (thus lowering the theoretical cap) to do so quickly. In all and all, it makes total and complete sense given the market.

TL;DR The market was flooded and thanks to the game being old, can be found for less and it gaining no value from being digital, the resale value is next to nothing on DKCR.

* By this I mean it's a game you will always want with you like say Pokemon, Animal Crossing and the like.

So the best would be to wait until the last day to buy it at a cheap price. Bought it for 13$ a couple of weeks ago thinking that was a good deal  I'm new to the scene so I shall pay one's dues, I guess.

I went redeem my platinum reward today and all reward items are saying "This item is not currently available". Just a heads up for those of us who waited until the last day. Hopefully this is fixed.

Yes, I just did the same thing. Apparently you really can sell out of digital copies.

Classic Nintendo.
admiralvic: What the hell is going on?

keyblader1985: That's Nintendo, SONY's ex-girlfriend. This is classic Nintendo. SONY broke up with Nintendo because NEC said that she saw Nintendo flirting with Philips at a party, but she was only doing it to make SONY jealous because you know, she thought that SONY secretly liked SEGA, but he doesn't like SEGA, it was all a bunch of bull.

Come to think of it, if only the Yoshi Plush was the only physical reward in the States I'd almost bet that people would complain and say, "Y U NO OTHER GUD DIGITAL GAME?" Would have been an interesting psychological experiment - oh wait, Facebook does that...can't give Nintendo ideas.

What, CAGs are gossiping about high school relationships? RELEASE THE TAYLOR SWIFT!

ok...so I recently made a trade and got $5 paypal. I'd love to pick up the original NES Legend of Zelda for 3DS with that money...however, I'm afraid it might pop up as a CN reward since it has been one in the past.

Do you think it will be on CN again anytime soon? Should I just get it?

With regards to VC that is a game I really want...so any suggestions on a wiiware game I can get with that $5 instead?

I would wait. It might take close to a year, but if you're anything like me, that will be the only item that will be worth your coins.

If this 4 3ds game at a time rate is the new normal they pretty much have to have it at CN by April, likely for 200 points.
Hold out for a sale on VVVVVV.

I would wait. It might take close to a year, but if you're anything like me, that will be the only item that will be worth your coins.
I kinda agree with you...but I'm getting impatient with my coins. I want to spend them lol. Month after month passes and I don't. I keep waiting to find something to spend it on and seems like the next month is always worse than the previous. Even though I hear it's hard I regret not getting 3d classics Kid Icarus...yet for some reason I used coins on the kid icarus gameboy game(wish I didn't get that). Also regret not getting the 3d classic Kirby game.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on Dr. Mario just because I feel like I'm never going to be offered something I really want and fear next month will be worse than this month.

Yeah. I know that feeling*.

I've also come to learn that nothing better will ever come along and you're best off just cashing out when you can.

If you like / want digital games, then I wouldn't worry about it. They all seem to cycle and with more games in the mix, there is a better chance of something good / better being offered than not. Plus, there are classics Nintendo can't help but give away like Super Mario Bros. 3 for the Wii U.

* I added the image out of boredom and I figured I've bitched about Club Nintendo so much I should show that its not all talk.

I need a little help.  I've never really participated in Club Nintendo before, but with the Pokemon and Mario Kart offers, I've gotten to Gold status (probably could have gotten Platinum if I'd paid more attention), and I've left my reward decision until the last minute.  I'm trying to decide between Wario Land 2 and Super Mario Land 2, or maybe Kid Icarus.  Which should I get?

Super Mario Land 2 is my favorite Mario game but that's because it was the first Mario game I had played and I still find it to be fun. Wario Land 2 is also very good.I never enjoyed Kid icarus so I can't really say anything about it.

I ended up going with Super Mario Land 2, thanks.

Having just finished Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D's final level, I'd just like to say... This is by far the best Elite Status gift I've gotten. I had only played the first world and a bit of the second on the Wii version, since I don't own it, but I'd assumed that the game was basically just eight worlds, with optional puzzle piece and KONG letter collecting in each level. I had no idea how much content is in this thing.

In every level are five to nine hidden puzzle pieces, which I think unlock things like images in the art gallery; some are easy to find, others are incredibly well-hidden. Levels also contain the KONG letters, which are out in the open, but must all be collected on a single run of the level. If you miss one (which sometimes happens, since a lot of them require small platforming challenges to reach), you'll have to collect them all again to get the red star marker for that level. Get a star marker for ever level in a world, and you unlock that world's hidden temple level, which is extra challenging. Beat the temples in each world to unlock world nine, which consists of long, difficult levels with no checkpoints. Beat the final level and you'll unlock Mirror Mode, which you can play any level in.

In Mirror Mode, the entire level is mirrored horizontally, you can't use any inventory items, you can't use Diddy, and you die with one hit. Oh, and it has its own KONG letters, replacing your red star marker with a blue one if you collect them all. Did I mention that every level also has a time attack mode? I don't think it'd be an exaggeration to say that this is the most content-rich 2D platformer I've ever played. I'd take that over a collection of Mario pins any day.

what if i just want to play the game and not deal with any of that other stuff? Is it still good?

The 3DS version is my preferred choice as it removes the horrid waggle controls that plague the Wii version (Tropical Freeze fixes this for the Wii U).

Because of the above mentioned challenges the game also feels better on a handheld console where you can dip in and out of a level at your leisure.

Fantastic game and even better to have as a downloaded title to load up on the fly.

The only requirement for progression is beating a level; the KONG letters open the (optional) temple levels, and I think collecting all the puzzle pieces in a level will unlock something in the Extras gallery. Basically, you complete challenges and are rewarded with new challenges. If you don't want to do any of that, that's perfectly fine, there's more than enough fun to be had just hoppin' and boppin' through the levels normally.

I'm curious about this... why in the hell is DKCR3D 17,000 blocks when games like Zelda and AC:NL are 6,000 each? I can't download the game now because of its ridiculous file size.

My advice is not to really think about / question file sizes. There are countless possibilities as to why things are the way they're (I'm also sure I could guess it), but come the end of the day the reasoning isn't really that important as the game is going to be 17,000 blocks regardless of why it's 17,000 blocks.

I do appreciate the reply though in life I will never accept an answer of "because we said so" or "is it the way it is"

I'm not a Nintendo dev although in my opinion a huge game like AC:NL would be 10x bigger in file size than a remake of an old game with DKCR3D.

The idea that AC:NL would be 10x bigger than DKCR3D isn't an opinion, it's a guess with no knowledge to back it up.

Animal Crossing isn't that complex of a game and not to get into a debate about how this stuff works, probably doesn't have a lot of large images or extremely complex mechanics (Donkey Kong has a lot of levels and if each one has a unique design, then thats another image that adds to the file size). To give you an idea how simple Animal Crossing actually is, the Wii version was only around 300 MB and even smaller than New Super Mario Bros Wii.

Holy shit, I forgot to claim my Platinum award.  Now I can come on the internet and bitch about how there was a deadline for redeeming a digital reward of games that are sitting on the eShop as I type this.

I honestly can't tell if you're genuinely mad / upset or you're mocking the people who disliked the reward...

Actually, the exact opposite is true. While they did have to retool everything to work well on the 3DS, don't forget that DKCR was a very nice-looking Wii game, with large textures. Single-layer Wii discs have a capacity of over four gigs, and you can bet that Retro got as much out of that as they could. The 3DS version of the game takes up about two gigs.

Animal Crossing, meanwhile, doesn't take up much memory at all. While it may seem like a big game, its textures are actually very small, and the majority of the content in the game is made up of text. It was built from the ground up with the 3DS game card and download sizes in mind, so it makes sense that it would be considerably smaller.

Fun fact: the original Animal Crossing was so small that the entire thing could be loaded into the Gamecube's memory. If you wanted, you could open the lid, remove the game, and continue playing since the console never needed to load anything from the disc.

I think the Wii Sports game was even smaller than that (about 200MB). Have to go check my hacked Wii later. That said, there wasn't much to that either.

I wonder why the 3DS game is so large for DKR3D. Might be the whole game is rendered (Layton 6 is almost a gigabyte; all the environments were actually fully rendered and still managed to look like you were looking at a painting too).

I honestly don't know why they put up a deadline... It's not like they need to figure out how many units they need to ship. The codes are only generated after you confirm your selection, so really, they could have left this open until next July.
