[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Am I the only one who gets really sad when opening a third party 3DS game and there's no CN points?
That's pretty uncommon even with third party stuff now though. What makes me sad is that WiiU stuff doesn't have it at all unless it's first party or digital.

Damn, third party Wii U games don't have CN points? You can probably tell I don't have a Wii U. I would have guessed that since 3DS games do, Wii U games would too! The one that hit me today was Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion.

I was shocked when I got the system and started buying games. Really got spoiled by getting them in nearly every 3DS game.

There are still about a billion Wii VC games I don't have and want.  Faxanadu on NES would be nice.  Is it always just first-party games, though?  I don't think Nintendo published Faxanadu.  :p

I still have my cartridge version of that. Haven't played it in ages.

I'm hoping for a VC game that wasn't in the Ambassador's list. Barring that, It'd be nice to see new games in general. You know what would really be great, an exclusive game only for Club Nintendo. They did that a couple times on the Wii....why not for the 3DS?

I'm annoyed that I missed Zoda's Revenge (think that's what it's called).  I had StarTropics already and erroneously thought I'd already purchased Zoda's Revenge as well.

Another thing I find upsetting is the Wii Shop Channel.  Ugh.  I wish they could take the four man-hours to update it to the standards of the eShops  It would be great to at least be able to "add needed funds" instead of in increments.  And nowhere even sells the Wii points cards anymore (and for good reason).

I wish they'd just moved the whole VC over to the Wii U.  I'm in a whiny mood today!!

Fair enough!  Thanks, guys!  I see Walmart.com even has them 4 cents off and with free shipping.  I wish all the eShops could just be merged.  I didn't realize when I bought a Wii U that I would still have to deal with the Wii Shop Channel, not to mention the tiny on-board memory constraints of the Wii.  :)

For a company that pushes digital as much as Nintendo it sucks they can't change some things .

Hey fellas, I'm looking at getting a 3ds very soon and have been doing some research into the club nintendo stuff (haven't owned nintendo console since gamecube).  I've seen that in the past there have been promotions when you register certain games and consoles you get a free game.  For instance, right now in Europe if you register a new 3ds to your club nintendo along with a game from a select list, they will give you Super Mario 3d Land for free.

i know similar promotions have happened for us here in the US.

With this being said, would I be best served to wait to register my 3ds, games, etc. until a promotion like this comes up?

Of course. There's no reason to register now unless a reward you want pops up now.

If you're waiting for a free retail game, you will be waiting a long time I think, perhaps forever. I don't know that for sure though. :) Could check my tarot deck.

I've been downloading every Wii game that Club Nintendo has offered for the past few months. I'm just wondering what happens to all of my downloads if my Wii breaks? If I put them all on to an SD card, would they work on a new Wii? How would I transfer them when I buy a Wii-U?

Sorry in advance if this is a total n00b question that's already been asked 100 times. I can't find anything about it in the OP.

If your Wii breaks you'd have to send in the broken Wii and a new Wii to Nintendo for them to transfer it for you. Yeah it's a ****ty deal because Nintendo didn't use an account system on the Wii and they still haven't on the WiiU for games.

As for transferring from Wii to WiiU, there's a transfer program on the WiiU that you must download onto a SD card and then install that into the Wii. Everything from saves to games are then stored on the SD card. You take that SD card and insert it into a Wii U and transfer the content.

That's nuts. I thought the answer was going to be something like "link your club nintendo account to your console" (which I don't think I've done yet).

So what happens if you lose your 3DS full of games or it gets stolen?

It seems like it would be a lot more cost effective to initially develop an account system instead of running a mail back program. I guess their main strategy back in 2006 or 2007 was to undercut the xbox 360 and ps3 price? No budget to create an account system? This will probably suck even worse like a decade from now if you have a Wii that dies with loads of games and Nintendo no longer transfers data. They'll just want you to buy them all over again on whatever the new console is.

Damn, for some reason I thought you got coins automatically for download games once you linked your account. I've got over 100 expired coins because of that assumption. Gonna have to contact them and see if they'll give me some of those coins.

There are rumors that Nintendo is putting together an account system for both the 3DS and Wii U so we might be able to access our games through an account system in the future.

Later this month they are going to release a system update to combine the eShop balances of both 3DS and Wii U via a Nintendo ID account system.

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/11/13/upcoming-nintendo-3ds-wii-u-system-update-will-combine-eshop-ac/

Yeah it blows if you have a balance on the Wii as it looks like they are abandoning the system. Best thing you can do is buy a Wii U and transfer your Wii virtual console games over to the Wii U console and then upgrade them if/when they are eventually released on the Wii U virtual console. It sucks but it's still better than the upgrade from 360 -> XB1 or PS3 -> PS4 (not even given an option to transfer content).

Still, accessing and storing digital content online is one area that Nintendo really needs to improve on in comparison to Sony and Microsoft.

If you download the free demo for Wii Fit U, you'll get a survey for 10 points a week or so later.  So, points for nothing.  Also, you don't even have to run it, you just need to download it.  I never even started it and I got the survey for the points.

Did you try Google?

Damn, for some reason I thought you got coins automatically for download games once you linked your account. I've got over 100 expired coins because of that assumption. Gonna have to contact them and see if they'll give me some of those coins.
You get surveys for those games, so you have to fill them out to get the coins like everything else.

Yes I did that first. My favorite method of gathering information is not posting a question on a forum and waiting forever for a random stranger to answer it. I prefer to use google. Thank you for your help.
I am somewhat on the fence. On one hand, I know this information can easily be googled and you either searched the wrong things or made it up, on the other hand, I like that you understand some random person maybe helping you isn't the best method to gather information. Since I am in a fairly awful mood, I'll go with the latter and answer your question.

If your Wii breaks, you can send it to Nintendo and get them to do it. Awful policy? Yes. Pain in the ass? Yes. Is it better than nothing? I suppose, though it's pretty close to nothing.

As far as the Wii U goes, there is a Wii to Wii U system transfer program, which takes that stuff and puts it on your Wii U. More tedious than it really should be, but Nintend is not Mr. Modern in terms of online programs.

There are still about a billion Wii VC games I don't have and want. Faxanadu on NES would be nice. Is it always just first-party games, though? I don't think Nintendo published Faxanadu. :p
Actually, Nintendo did publish Faxanadu in the States. The problem is that the game was developed by Hudson Soft, who is owned by Konami.
