[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Here's a dumb question about the Donkey Kong game being offered through August 4th:  Is this the "original" version that came out for the GBA years ago, or is it the rumored "new" version I've heard about that's supposed to be the true original as it now has the "Pie Factory" level just like the arcade machine?

If it's the one with the pie factory, it's on like....well, you know

it is apparently the Gameboy version, though I can't comment on the pie factory bit.

Yeah it's the Gameboy edition. However, it isn't like the arcade game, it has a TON of levels and new mechanics, but of course crappy B&W graphics as if it is being played on a regular Gameboy (even though it was one of the first GB Color games, and the Zelda games did color just fine). It is quite fun.

The "upgraded" version was the one they gave away for free with purchases of certain games a few months ago. The original NES port only had three of the arcade four levels (missing the pie factory), but this version was essentially that NES version with the fourth level added back into the game.

I'm hopeful that the 30 cent game on the WiiU is the upgraded version, screenshots indicate it is the NES version, but I haven't seen anywhere whether it is the one with all four levels.

Donkey Kong wasn't originally a Game Boy Color game; it was released as an original Game Boy game. It was, however, made to look much like a Game Boy Color game when used with the Super Game Boy, along with having a special border (you can see the picture of it a few pages back in this thread). I still have both to this day.

Yeah, you are right. That's what I meant, I remember the magazine ads. Wasn't the Gameboy Color just the Super Gameboy in portable form that came later? As I recall they re-released certain games with colors and called them "DX". It's a shame they didn't add in some of the color options or even the borders for the 3DS.

What is everyone whining about now? Club Nintendo is not free. It is part of the cost of the games you buy. Sure, you can obtain codes through other means, but that doesn't change the fact that Club Nintendo is not free. It's not like these prices are magically made and shipped to you at no cost. The cost is somewhere.
Now that's maybe the dumbest argument I've ever seen made before on the subject.

Apparently no one read my previous post in regards to all the time CN takes up... It's really only about 30 minutes of time to build up to platinum status. Besides, it's entirely optional... It's not like Reggie pops out and bangs your forehead against a keyboard until a survey is completed every time you crack open a Nintendo game. I mean, what do you get when you buy an EA game? A game. Sony? Microsoft? Activision? Capcom? Game, game, game and game. Point is, no one else really does this. It's free. It doesn't make the game cost more(it takes up their marketing $$? really?), it doesn't even cost you any shipping charges... If we're really going to say that a half an hour of your time over an ENTIRE YEAR (again, see my previous post) makes it not free, then maybe I should look into demanding rewards every time I have to spend time on hold, reply to a PM or even wait in line to use a bathroom. Sheesh.

I got Platinum before the Club Year ended, but I haven't received an email from Nintendo confirming that.  Anybody else get one?  I could be wrong, but I remember getting emails in previous years telling me I qualified, whether it was Gold or Platinum.

Nope, didn't get an email it just shows it on my page.

Must these topics always devolve into semantic arguments that are always rooted in entitlement? With that being said, you could easily argue against your point if you want to jump into the world of semantics. I buy an EA game? Get an online pass (Alice gave you a free game, BC 2 gave you a season pass, etc) or something extra (Medal of Honor Frontline was free with certain copies of MoH, Dead Space 2 came with Extraction, etc). Sony has given out a number of free DLC items and has Online passes, cross-buy, etc. M$ has the reward program if you buy digital / get Xbox Live. Square Enix has their own reward program. Konami looks to also be doing their own reward program (I got a MGS 4 Raiden skin for signing up). Anyway, the whole argument is stupid as a whole.

Does Nintendo have to do it? No.

Is the program free like people claim? No.

Could Nintendo do a better job with Club Nintendo? I could at least get more than 5 new items a year.

Nintendo is starting to get better (SMT 4 / FE promo for instance), but not all their programs are that grand (New Super Luigi U Pin...).

I got Platinum before the Club Year ended, but I haven't received an email from Nintendo confirming that. Anybody else get one? I could be wrong, but I remember getting emails in previous years telling me I qualified, whether it was Gold or Platinum.
They send one when you can redeem your prize, but thats it.

The way I see it is this:  Nintendo would not lower their prices if they cancelled Club Nintendo.  They would likely be exactly where they are today.  I bought Nintendo games for years without it (even after it started, didn't really look into it).  I do a survey here and there and type in a number when I buy something, surveys literally take 30 seconds because half the questions are exactly the same every time (yes I do like the virtual console service, just like the last 20 times you asked me Nintendo).

And now they give me a download game from time to time (I've gotten maybe 10 in the past year), a Gold Nunchuk, and a few doodads for my sons.  And every year they send me a trinket of some sort.  Yes, they bury the costs somewhere (marketing budget), but my outlay is no different than it would be sans Club Nintendo.  I'd still buy the same games I want.  So yes, it is essentially "free".  They give me stuff I didn't get before, nor are they obligated to do via my other purchases.  I've never bought anything for points, and that includes avoiding the crappy Yoshi game for 30 cents just for the 10 pts (the only one I didn't get).

You can only say it is not "free" if you honestly believe they would lower prices without the Club, or you make purchases you otherwise would not for the sole purpose of getting points.  The first is a pipe dream, and the second just means it isn't free for you.

Something that is truly free has no strings attached. If you walked over to me and handed me a dollar I would have got the dollar for free. If I have to do any work towards it (filling out surveys, buying products) then it is no longer free. It's not up for debate, it's either free or it isn't. It doesnt matter how fast you can fill out the surveys or if you got the codes without paying... it's not free.

If you can't see that this is part of their market research then I don't know what to tell you. Microsoft and Sony both have similar methods, though not as generous.

I knew that would come up as soon as I typed that out... I'll give you that occasionally publishers throw extras in there as a promo/partnership choice, but the fact of the matter is those a few and far in between. But you're really going to bring up online passes? Project $10 is usually in there to withhold a portion of the game, making it unlockable if you if you buy the game new. That's hardly a gift. Yes, some publishers are starting to catch on, but they aren't anywhere in the same league as Nintendo(did I really just say that?) unless you manage to somehow pull off a miracle and get the Ultimate gift from Squeenix.

Again with the time thing... Would you guys be more satisfied if Nintendo sent you a check for $3.62(30 minutes of minimum wage pay) for all of your hard work? That's another thing, it always makes me laugh every time someone mentions that we're doing market research for them... I get that it is what it actually boils down to but, "Man NOA really does right by us! I'm so glad they value our opinions and listen to their fans!", said no one ever.

*sighs* At least defpally seems to get it.

No one is saying that we want a check back or anything like that, just that it is not free. It's a great program and I'm glad they have it. It blows away the random survey type things other companies do with 1:5000 odds of getting anything. It still doesn't make it free though. Nintendo is getting something in return for giving you a prize they made for $0.50. They wouldn't do it if they weren't getting anything out of it.

Let me ask the "not free" people...  So is the toy not "free" in a Happy/Kids Meal?  It's a bonus, just like the Club Nintendo rewards.  Without the "club" games would not be cheaper, it is something that's 100% optional and affects nothing if you don't do it...and if you do you get a bonus gift as a thank you.  If you buy games to get the points then hey that's your fault and in that case surely you can't call the bonuses free.  But IMO when you're buying something you were going to buy anyway and the price is not affected, a "bonus" is most certainly "free".

You can sit here and debate whether a "bonus" is "free" or not, but that's highly subjective.  Sure, you have to do something to get the bonus, but if you disqualify the club bonus as being free think of everything else you have to as well...literally every since thing you need to do something in order to get (guess unless somebody is standing in front of you and hands you something without you having to move a muscle it's not free).

Everytime I see this topic bumped I get excited that they may have announced the rewards. Instead I find the same argument that has been going on for over a week.

it is a bit disappointing yes. I really don't see why we need to keep revisiting this same topic and turning this thread into a borderline flame war. I think we would all be better off if the topic was dropped for now or moved to another thread.

We can talk about the Capcom Edge program instead.  Takin' it to the Edge*!

lol, sorry about that!

No worries though, I'm done... If memory serves correctly, however, I think they usually announce them in August.

Yeah, I think the free/not free discussion is officially over. It's not like one side is convincing the other side or anything.

How long will they have the 'prizes are coming'sign is the real question now.

Lets agree on this. Club Nintendo is voluntary.

If you choose to partake then you decide it's worth your time to fill out these surveys knowing full well that prizes having been historically mediocre.

I always said this thread was useless from the start. None of these are deals yet it's in the deals section.

This is a rewards program that cannot be purchased with real currency. On top of that all you do is update the first page with what everyone can see for themselves by going to club Nintendo.

The entire thread is 5% deals and 95% bickering.

Nobody's forcing you to come in and read the thread. I find it to be very helpful for game recommendations, seeing what games have been offered as a reward in the past, a heads up on opportunities to get more points, and letting people know when new rewards/restocks are available.

No, I choose to disagree. The nanites sealed in the packaging force me to participate, that's what that new game smell really is.

Wow....

What a d***

Patience guys, it's only been a little over a week! They never announce them right away anyway and like it was mentioned above you'll still have a half a year wait ahead of you.

No one has ever disagreed about that. We just have the typical entitled vs grateful arguments. One side believes that Club Nintendo is a small bonus and is quite literally better than nothing (which it is). The other side believes Club Nintendo is not free per se (even free entires in raffle / contest typically say "no purchase necessary" and a lot of things like ladies night use the term "no admission fee") and could realistically do a better job, since none of the prizes are easily obtainable without a "large' sum of money being spent.

While it's not really here nor there, even the cheap "crappy" prizes aren't really any of those things anyway. ASI charges roughly 2 - 3 dollars for a specially designed deck of cards and we're talking really basic looking cards. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo paid $10 dollars for every deck of cards that was given out last year and I wouldn't even be stunned if that was before shipping.

In the end, neither side will see eye to eye, since it comes down to how people fundamentally view the situation.

 And that Fire Emblem + SMT IV thread is useful and completely different because?

Club Nintendo has started to do better promotions, which this thread is good at alerting people of. There is the aforementioned $30 dollar credit deal, XL + Luigi or Pokemon = free game promo, x2 points and a chance at a pin Luigi deal, +20 coins for buying a VC game (was a huge bonus since I paid .30 cents and got Yoshi + 30 coins), etc.

In a lot of ways this thread is like the "equally worthless" PSN thread. Almost all of the information posted there comes DIRECTLY from the Sony Blog, so anyone interested in what Plus game / upcoming deal / upcoming content can simply look there and be done with it. Furthermore, none of the deals, plus games or new content are hidden, since there are huge banners for deals / plus section / new release section. Most of that thread is just "How good is blank game?" "How does PlayStation Plus work?" "Does blank game still have an active online?" "Omg blank game does or does not have a platinum trophy, lame!" "Hey I have money and want a suggestion of what game to buy.", yet it still exists here no problem.

Last year they were announced on the 6th I believe, so they've been announced earlier this before.

Ah, I had deleted my email from them(I usually save them) last year so I wasn't sure. Seems like it's taken a while in the past, though I could be wrong about that.

Oh, and I didn't mean to argue with you so much before... I actually tend to agree with most things that you say. I can get a little carried away sometimes. Heh.

Yup! Year before it was on July 1st and before that July 1st and the first year was July 14th. I don't foresee a Saturday reveal, though it could happen on Sunday (that is the day they typically release games), but this will probably go down as the longest wait for the platinum rewards in the US. With that being said, Nintendo has kicked up Club Nintendo a lot this year, so hopefully we will see an equally awesome CN platinum prize. For those that haven't been paying attention, we got the Kirby medal / Kirby card raffle / Kid Icarus raffle / XL + game promo / a few more unique prizes / more third party games with coins / virtual console bonus credit / NSLBU bonus coins and pin raffle / Donkey Kong original game / 30 dollar credit promo. Also last year suffered from the "stupidly easy" platinum status, which probably played a big role in the "lack luster" prizes.

No worries. I tend to play devils advocate, so this is nothing new to me.

Got 1 of those Wii Goldeneye gold classic controller bundles from Kmart for $24.99. Debating on keeping it. Now, for Club Nintendo to bring back the gold nunchuk.

Honest question, did you actually read that post or was this a poor choice of words or are you just trying to start a flame war?

With 2013 being The Year of Luigi, Nintendo has revealed that Club Nintendo of Japan is offering a limited edition soundtrack CD dedicated to Mario’s green-garbed brother as a reward. The Year of Luigi Sound Selection CD can be redeemed from the loyalty program for 400 Club Nintendo points, but members who register either Luigi’s Mansion 2, New Super Luigi U or Mario & Luigi RPG4 Dream Adventure can grab the CD for just 200 Club Nintendo points. The commemorative CD is compiled of 30 tracks, featuring numerous songs from the following games:
It's not the platinum prize or anything besides a new reward people can buy.

Honest answer.........

reward!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't say platinum prize...relax with the continuation of the so called flame war.

I just thought it was pretty cool that maybe we would see something like this for us to spend our coins on.

Edit: Whoa...i typed out award instead of reward, sorry about that...no wonder you took it the wrong way.
