[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I don't want any of the physical goods and the hassle of keeping them perfect and then selling them isn't worth the $10-15 they're probably going to fetch. I would rather just have the $6-8 that I might actually get some enjoyment out of at some point.
This was my thought as well, so I got Links Awakening as I actually wanted that as opposed to a CD I'll never listen to.

I thought about getting the CD and selling it but it wasn't worth the bother to me plus I thought I might be doing someone else out of a CD who might actually want it.

That's my logic as well. I'd never listen to a game soundtrack or hang a game poster, and don't like knick knacks etc. period so it's always a game download or nothing for me.
FYI, I sold my gold nunchuck from the last time they were in stock for $70. I'd say at least that is worth flipping!

how much is a CD in a cardboard sleeve really going to sell for when it's been out there before but with better packaging. So I'll have to get some piece of paper or cardboard and sit on it for however long while hoping it stays in mint condition so I can compete with the hundreds of other people that wind up undercutting each other because they all bought it to sell as well.
Just a heads up, from the CN website:

This re-released 2 CD set features the entire soundtrack of this classic Zelda™ title and will be packaged in a double-CD jewel case

Going back and forth between the posters and the cd

what are you guys getting?
Credit due to admiralvic for the idea, but if you wanted to get both, go ahead and order the posters. Out of the two, the posters are more likely to be damaged than the CD OST (except for a cracked jewel case, which is easy to swap), and if you got them directly from Nintendo, you can contact their customer service to handle the issue (reports of getting new posters shipped are not uncommon from CN).

After the first week of the prize dispersions, you can bet the CD will be easy to get ahold of (either through eBay or even directly here on CAG), and is a safer bet in getting to you in good condition. Personally I'm getting the CD because the posters do not interest me, though.

That's a little different than posters or a CD though.

Yeah, it's not in a cardboard sleeve.
Hadn't looked at it since they put it up and originally it was a cardboard sleeve and 1 CD. That's why people were outraged that they were putting out an inferior version to what they did previously.

Actually, neither of those things are true.

What ORIGINALLY happened was people saw the image on the site

zelda_majoras_mask_soundtrack_big_1.jpg

and jumped to the conclusion that it was 1 CD and a paper sleeve. Considering that is / was the image they were showing, it does in fact look like it's a single CD coming out of a paper sleeve. This outraged MANY uninformed people (myself included) because we never bothered to actually read the description. After the whole "This prize sucks ass" shock wore off, people started to read the description and saw it was actually 2 CD's and a jewel case.

The description was modified later in the day. It originally made no mention of being 2 discs or being packaged in a jewelcase. I know because I spent a good 15 or so minutes flipping back and forth between the posters and the CD, before finally settling on the posters. Then when people started posting about the description saying it was two discs in a jewelcase I was thinking "... no it doesn't..." but then I refreshed and it was there. I had already locked in my poster order by then though.

Did it make mention of being a single CD in a paper sleeve? That was sort of the point of the topic, so if it didn't, then the description simply sucked. I also went back to see what people were saying (to see if anyone noted what you said) and most of the complaints were simply over WHAT the prizes were, not how complete they were. Additionally, the first person who mentioned that it was an incomplete soundtrack was corrected 10 minutes later by a post of the description.

No matter how you look at it, no one was actually mad that it was a single CD or in a paper sleeve (as the first mention of it was corrected shortly after), nor was anyone outraged that they were getting an inferior version. Just that the prizes sucked next to Japan and Europe.

Yeah, the original description was basically useless. I was just clarifying and adding my own experience.

thanks for the heads up guys. I didn't know links awakening was a whole new game. I think im gonna go ahead and go with that one for my reward since i already have Sakura Samurai. THanks for the suggestions and info

If you like the series, especially the Oracle games which drew heavy influence from it, you won't be disappointed.

Went ahead and decided to get the Posters. Since my Brother helped reach Platinum Status, I let him choose. They will be framed someday.

Don't know if anyone mentioned it or I'm just imagining it but the Game & Watch Ball handheld is available for 1200 coins and I can't recall personally ever having seen it available.

I still have NO idea what to order. Don't really like any of the options.
I KNOW! We have just over three hours left before they pick for us too!

I'm probably leaning towards Zelda DX because it's the safe pick but Sakura Samurai is far more exciting personally (mainly because I played that Zelda like 15 years ago). Then there's this weird guilt that I should be ordering the posters because they're a platinum gift.

My thoughts pretty much EXACTLY!

Just get the OST to sell or I'll work out a deal for the posters. I really just want the Zelda one, which wasn't enough to justify getting it as a prize, but would gladly do something to help a CAG.

I would just get the posters or MM OST and sell them. Worse case you get $5 dollars before shipping and you can get the game you want / discount on one you want. Wouldn't be much of a hassle and a lot of CAGs regularly sell these things for $5 - 10 dollars.

You make it sound trivial to keep things in good enough condition to sell when you have no storage space and a toddler. :whee:
-shrugs- I'll give you or anyone interested $7 dollars after paypal fees for the posters. That is exactly $1 dollar more than Links Awakening DX cost and gives you or whomever the freedom to buy whatever you like. I'll also pay shipping fees for anyone besides EldritchOnRye.

Well I ordered the posters.  Not sure I really want them, but if someone really does want to work out a trade or something just PM me.  I know we wont be getting these anytime soon anyways...

Damn, I was so underwhelmed with the choices this year I almost forgot to pick.  Just now picked the CD - figured like others that it is worth at least as much as one of the games.  But then again, if a lot of people are thinking the same thing then it won't be ;).

FYI - looks like you have through the 15th to make the selection.  I still had the option after midnight Pacific to choose.

Hey, are they offering early registration bonuses again?  I thought they did away with those a year or two ago?  I had an "offer" to register Pikmin 3 for 70 coins and I thought I might as well to get myself past Gold.  I ended up getting 80 coins (60 + 10 + 10).  One of the 10 is for the Intend To Buy.  But the other had to be for an early registration bonus, right?

Looks like maybe I got that for Animal Crossing New Leaf as well (40 + 10 + 10).  But for SMT IV I just got the base 50 and not a single 10 bonus (either it didn't have an Intend To Buy or I missed it).

Edit: OK, just read the OP again and I see that there is a "new release" bonus now on select titles (currently NSLB U and Pikmin 3).  I guess ACNL was an earlier one.  I'll have to keep an eye on that in the future.  I never noticed these offers on the site itself (except for maybe the Luigi one and I thought that was just a special download bonus).

They're just hit and miss now sadly.

Edit: OK, just read the OP again and I see that there is a "new release" bonus now on select titles (currently NSLB U and Pikmin 3). I guess ACNL was an earlier one. I'll have to keep an eye on that in the future. I never noticed these offers on the site itself (except for maybe the Luigi one and I thought that was just a special download bonus).
They seem to be exclusive to Nintendo franchises (Animal Crossing, Mario, Luigi, Pikmin, etc) and third party rarely get coins, much less the early reg bonus. However, Nintendo seems to have a half assed approach to handling some aspects of Club Nintendo. My favorite and probably best example of this is Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Not only did they not offer an Intend to Buy (common for "weird" games, but not exclusive to third party titles.), but the Wii U version did NOT get coins, where as the 3DS version did.

Long story short, Nintendo seems to do whatever and it somehow works out moderately well in the end.

I think it wont work because I had the game before but I rebought a new copy................anyway hope this works for someone

Logged into Club Nintendo today and there was a super long survey about Swapnote for +10 coins. Says its only offered to a random selection of people.

Saw it in my to-do list when I logged in for the Wonderful 101 survey

Thanks, got mine done. Definite buy for me.
Has too much of that Viewtiful Joe vibe for me to ignore :)

Man, I got super lucky. I bought Shin Megami Tensei IV and Fire Emblem: Awakening used from the recent GoHastings Facebook sale.  I didn't think there was a chance in hell the CN codes would be unused but decided to try and register them today. Low and behold both were unused and now I have the $30 code.  Still not sure what I want with it though.  I may just try and sell it instead.

Ugh, pass on the download titles again. Last one I picked up was kid icarus for 3ds. Hoping for some zelda titles, links awakening on 3ds and majoras mask wii.

That was a gold level reward this year, don't know if that makes it any more or less likely to show up as a coin-value reward.

Prolly pick up that Mario Vs DK game, looks worth 150 points.
Mario Vs DK was a Gold lvl reward last year, I believe this is the first time it's been offered since. So expect Link's Awakening this time next year :)

I absolutely loved the first Star Tropics... I somehow have more nostalgic memories of that game than nearly any other NES game other than Crash n the Boys Street Challenge.  Too bad this sequel is only being offered on Wii... otherwise I'd pick it up in a heartbeat on my 3DS.
