[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I haven't gotten any e-mail about a reward shipping.  Maybe I'm not getting anything?  I don't remember choosing anything.  When was it that we were meant to choose?  I think I would have had to have been platinum for sure.  I certainly am now.

It doesn't matter what you are now and as long as you were gold, you get a calendar if you don't pick a prize I believe.

I'm pretty sure I was platinum at the time... I really don't remember picking anything, though. Perhaps very vaguely remember something about the posters and picking a CD instead, but I honestly have no idea.

I should have gotten an e-mail or something today like everyone else, right? Oh well. Life goes on.

Only people with posters got an E-Mail. I got the OST and am still waiting, though I couldn't care less one way or the other. On one hand I get something I will throw in a corner of my room and on the other hand, I would have an obligation to frame. Either or, not an appealing choice.

Anyway, go account and coins > orders and see if it is listed. The OST seems to be listed as ZELDA:MAJORA'S MASK SNDTRK-CLB 2013, though I don't know what the posters are. If you got either or those 2 or the calendar, then you got something coming. Otherwise, you either picked a game or Nintendo screwed you (though I sincerely doubt they did).

Just so you guys know.. Star Tropics was in my Top 5 of all Nintendo memories.. I must beat and re-beat that game about 2 dozen times.  Whereas, I only bothered with the original Zelda like 3 times total. Maybe if they had achievements .... :p  I kid.

1000+ reward points here and still no sign of me finding something to use them on. I may end up getting that Mario T-shirt for fear of some of the points expiring. Whats the timing on that, by the way?
You can check under your account settings.

I sat on nearly 3000 points for the longest time before finding stuff to spend it on. Have about half that now, but they really need to offer more (and better) games as rewards.

You know, maybe I did pick a game? But I went and looked, and I don't see it on there. I do see an Ocarina of Time soundtrack, but that was from 2011 (wonder what the heck I did with that??).

AH, I think I found it.

That must be it, huh?

Yup. Thats it.

Yeah, I don't see getting it, but you never know. I just didn't want my reward to be an obligation to frame something.
Yeah, I have a feeling that may be the one that is the hardest to come by, as I don't think much other people cared about the other two outside of maybe Luigi.

I have like 12 posters from CN and none of them are framed or anything, they're even still in the cardboard tubes! One of these days...

Well, I like the Pikmin one, but I don't think it would look nice. It just seems out of place if you ask me. Still like the style.

Agreed about it being out of place, though I may be more fond of it if I had actually played a Pikmin game before.
Unlikely. I've played Pikmin and feel that way. I think the art style is nice, but I just can't see that looking nice in my area.

Mystery solved. Thanks for helping me figure that out! Would have annoyed me for ages.
No problem. I know the feeling.

I haven't received an email yet about having my Majora's Mask soundtrack being shipped to me. Still undecided if I'm going to keep it or not.

StarTropics, dare I say it, is my favorite NES game of all time. Up until five years ago, I used to play it and the sequel once a year.

Also, Nintendo needs to contact SNK Playmore about releasing Crystalis on Virtual Console. Another one of my all time favorites.

Oh man, that would be awesome. It's just the top of the iceberg, though. Where the hell are Lufia 1 and 2? I know Square Enix owns Taito now, so I guess that's what happened. Square Enix makes even less logical sense than Nintendo.

I thought it was on Wii U.

PS: Am I the only one that got the calender as the free gift? I'm platinum too lol
It is, but you have to access it via the Wii menu on the Wii U.

If you got platinum last year and didn't pick something, then you should be getting a calendar.

Well, after that crappy re-imaging of Lufia 2 on the Nintendo DS, I don't know if I want Square Enix to touch anything else named Lufia.

Here's something that will f*ck you up. The same people that made the original Lufia 2 made that DS version. Maybe not the EXACT same people but the same developer, Neverland. They made the Rune Factory games, too, and went under.

I've heard the Lufia DS game is good, but jeez, why would you turn such a great RPG into a hack and slash? Also, they made that Game Boy Color version. It's been years since I played it, but I remember being so upset by it, particularly about all the dungeons being procedurally generated. Lufia and Lufia 2 had great dungeons (or at least I remember Lufia 2 did), so why they'd want to take all that out and just put in a bunch of random stuff, who knows. Total piss-take.

Anyway. I still love Lufia and Lufia 2 and want them on my Wii U.

So I got the worst gift you're saying? :p I picked it. I ordered the Zelda posters though, which I got and they are amazing.

Yeah they usually say "Wii" on top of them. I have no idea why this one is a Wii game but it says Wii U. I never go into Wii mode in my Wii U cus it looks ugly and I can't use the gamepad.

I think the games are the worst, since you can buy those and have no value as a unique item, but ultimately that is your choice.

It's marketing. They're trying to push the Wii U now, so they say Wii U instead of Wii.

I don't think so, but maybe. I've never seen it happen before, unless this was the first time.

You're right, games are pretty value-less except they're free. But yeah, I hope they refund me. I haven't even used it.

First time and probably happened because they want to push the Wii U.

Yeah, I was a bit dismayed to hear that Neverland closed down. I wasn't that big of a fan of Rune Factory, though I did love the original Harvest Moon and this game held a lot of potential. But yeah, I guess all they cared about in recent time was churning out Rune Factory games. Sad really, because we could've used more games in that series. CIMA: The Enemy was an interesting game that sadly was regulated to cult status due to abysmal sales.

I guess the reason Square Enix isn't releasing many more RPGs for Virtual Console across all systems is because why sell them at a paltry $5 - $10 when you can sell them for nearly $20 on iOS platforms. I would really love to play Final Fantasy Adventure and the Final Fantasy Legend series on 3DS Virtual Console.

ME TOO. Gosh, I would love even just barebones remakes. I would pay $10 or whatever. There was... um... a Wonderswan Color remake of the first FF Legend (I think it's just SaGa 1 in Japan), and of course a DS remake of both Legend 2 and 3 (SaGa 2 and SaGa 3, or maybe it's Makai Toshi Saga or something). I don't know if FF Adventure (Seiken Densetsu, i.e. Secret of Mana Zero) has ever received a remake.

Apologies if you know all this already! I get irritated when people tell me things I already know, but I'm just excitedly tapping away, not meaning to imply you don't know these things. Really looking forward to Shovel Knight, by the way (in regards to your avatar)

If Square Enix wants to farm on iOS, that's fine, and I kind of get it, but I wish they would do stuff for the rest of us still, too. License your stuff out to decent companies, hire little companies to localize things. I know it's not a huge profit margin, but you gotta think they'll break even at least, and they'll make loyal fans. Square Soft could have taken a crap in a SNES box in 1993 and I woul have paid $69.99 for it.

Actually, Square Enix did remake Final Fantasy Adventure for the GBA - it's called Sword of Mana. It's actually a very good game and it holds up pretty substatinally in terms of gameplay and place in the series.

I am very much looking forward to Shovel Knight. I actually backed the Kickstarter, getting copies for PC, Wii U, and 3DS. I was originally going to back The Mighty 9, but I shied away from that one.

And I know what you mean about Square Soft: I remember paying $74.99 at Toys 'R Us for a copy of Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy III on the SNES). Though, funny enough, I'm more of a Enix fan. Love the Soulblazer series and of course, a huge fan of Dragon Quest - another series that needs to be released on Virtual Console. I wish Nintendo would ramp up production of Virtual Console titles and get some cross-buy system going like Playstation Network.

Totally forgot about Sword of Mana! I wish we could get all these GBA classics on the 3DS, and running native. I mean cripes, people were running GBA games very well on a PSP, and Nintendo can't rub two brain cells together and figure out how to run them on 3DS?

I had a job during the Shovel Knight Kickstarter and went a little overboard myself. I can't remember what I exactly pledged for. I think I might have gotten two Steam copies and one 3DS. Now I want Wii U, too!

I remember Final Fantasy III (VI) well, of course. Had forgotten the price, but I got it at Waldensoftware. Apparently I didn't have one reserved (which seems unthinkable--why wouldn't I have had?). The manager knew me and took someone else's and sold it to me, ha. I was that annoying kid who was always in there bugging them, and they were so nice to me. Gamestop is not like that...Anyway.

Yeah, those old Enix games were gold. That whole Quintet... uh... quintet? or quartet? of games was amazing. Actaiser (II was kinda weird), SoulBlazer, Illusion of Gaia--and then we never got... uh... that last one. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, but I can't remember the title. It was in English, but it never got released here!!! I am still bitter from my SNES days. Gosh we missed out on so much. Speaking of Dragon Quest!

The last game in "unofficial" series is Terranigma, which was a great game that I never got around to finishing.

Honestly, who knows what Nintendo has planned for GBA on 3DS, but one would believe their priorities lie with the Wii U moreso than the 3DS. 2014 should prove interesting to say the least.

Ambassador.

But, yeah, restore points and such would definitely be nice.
Yeah, sorry, I was a bit unclear. I was expressing my displeasure that GBA stuff has to run in Nintendo DS mode. Seems like they should be able to emulate it natively on the 3DS without resorting to going into DS mode if GBA was able to run on PSP.

Yeah, they definitely need to be focusing on the Wii U. I haven't seen much evidence of that so far.

I'm just mr sunshine tonight!

No worries - I'm very critical of Nintendo myself. I've been a fan of theirs all my life, but even I knew when they make a lot of boneheaded mistakes. Also, I didn't even know the GBA games from the Ambassador program were running in DS/DSi mode. Very weird and you're right - the 3DS has more than enough power capable of running the games. Hopefully we'll here something in 2014, but I'm afraid it won't be until E3.

Maybe the reason why GBA games aren't on the 3DS yet is because since they are looking to get those games running on the Wii U, the next step in this Nintendo Network ID unification system is to have, dare I say, cross-buy?

That could have been just a stopgap solution since they obviously hadn't started any serious work on GBA VC for 3DS, at least in terms of what we can see with the releases/news. I believe the NES Ambassador stuff got updates when they fleshed that emulator out, so the same could happen when they get to GBA games in a few years.

This is true, and I think it may have also been Nintendo trying to go with the easiest/cheapest option just to get those Ambassador games out there. I mean, why put all that effort into something that you're just giving away?

Well the site messed up for me and I ended up ordering a second SMBLL code. Maybe someone else messed up in previous months and has an extra voucher they're looking to trade? I have Wii, Wii U, and 3DS.

I sure hope so. I see Double Dragon is out on the Wii U and 3DS VC today. I probably wouldn't have bought it anyway, but just the fact that it's on both, and that I'd have to buy both to have it on both. is enough to make me not buy it.

Yeah, that's a good point. I hope that's the case. Although it's going to be annoying watching them pass over all the best GBA games and release junk instead, as they are prone to do on all VCs.

Soooo.... Is Link to the Past going to update as a Wii U VC game today?
Sure doesn't look like it. Still more proof that Nintendo is not actually trying to succeed.

That's weird since the site I had read about it coming to the WiiU eShop on was definitely an American site (IGN I think (not that they're all that reputable)).

I saw the same article and they did specify that this was in Europe (it just seemed like it was an afterthought to mention that part): http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/12/09/a-link-to-the-past-comes-to-the-wii-u-eshop

It is often the case that things will come out the same day in Europe/US, but not always. We can at least assume that it won't be too far off.

Those Europe bits definitely weren't there when I read it the first time which according to Google was something like 40 minutes after it was posted.

Yeah Nintendo really has no clue. It's sad (as a Wii U owner) that the Wii U is doing so poorly, but it's not hard to see why. I was about to pick up Zelda LTTP last month with 150 coins and then stopped when I realized it wasn't Wii U. If it did become Wii U I'd be irritated at this point since I'd have picked it up. But given that it doesn't look like it, I'm irritated either way. :D

Seriously, Nintendo, get your crap together. Give us an account-based purchase system, too, while you're at it.
