[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Relax dude... It's only because it was a last minute delay, they most likely already had this in the pipeline. With all the problems they've been having recently, I'm sure catching something like this is the least of their worries.

Yep, was supposed to be out already after all.

Hmmm my to-do list is empty, I really hope I don't have to deal with nintendo support again :(
I also recently registered a Wii-U and never got a survey. I assumed it was because I bought the system used and the previous owner must have registered it, but that might not be the case if others are having the same issue.

Oh. Well then.

You two aren't making it any better, you know. The whole reason it's so bad is because the delay was so last-minute. It's a reminder that the only reason we don't have them right now is because of random chance, and teasing us that it still isn't up yet and we have no idea when it will be.

Random chance? The Japanese release is a major contributor as to why the eShop is so messed up right now... Going ahead with the NA release would have only crippled it even more, caused them longer to try to fix it and it wouldn't even work due to the network issues. It's not like they up and said, "Nah, you guys can just wait a while longer, we're hitting the delay button because we're evil. Mwahaha!".

I wouldn't call it random chance as much as poor planning on Nintendo's part. Sony had a continent wide system launch on top of Christmas and their problems weren't nearly as severe as Nintendo's. It's also not like they don't know how many Pokemon owners are out there and should have been able to anticipate the traffic from that. Or you just don't deploy such a massive burden upon your infrastructure at the same time that it's already going to be taxed and avoid the let down in the first place.

Man, stop sounding like some entitled piece of shit and move the fuck on. It's a cloud server that holds Pokemon, not Mother 3 or anything worth giving 2 shits about.

I mean, this was a completely "unforeseeable" future. I am sure Nintendo put the release date after Xmas so people who just got the game would have these apps to enjoy. However, so many people were killing the server that they needed to lessen the load, so they told people that the app was delayed to lighten the load and sort out these apparent issues (something that happens QUITE OFTEN with digital services like this). I don't think Nintendo wants to see their servers crash, consumers getting screwed (remember, patches are on the eShop...), Pokemon getting lost in the process and this app being the next Sim City, which apparently was awesome if you could play, but everyone remembers the 3 - 4 days it was impossible to play. Regardless of why it was delayed or how negatively this affected your apparently pathetic life (if you care this much about cloud storage for Pokemon...), it was an absolute must and completely understandable delay.

I don't think you understood me, or maybe I wasn't clear. By "random chance" I was referring to those network issues themselves and Nintendo being unable to handle the load they should've seen coming.

>telling me to move on from something that just happened a few days ago

>brings up Mother 3

Seriously, "unforeseeable?" In quotes or not, how can you honestly use that term for a situation like this? How is increased server load on a major holiday in any way unforeseeable, especially when you have a highly-anticipated app releasing in Japan on the same day?

Yes, I know that they had to delay it because of all the server load from Christmas and people in Japan, and we wouldn't have even been able to download it regardless because of those issues. That was my point. Nintendo should have been able to foresee the increased server load and set up accordingly. If you think my expecting Nintendo to be able to prepare for an easily predicted increase in server usage makes me sound entitled, then I don't know what to say to you other than "whatever."

And just fyi, I couldn't care less about the cloud storage. It's the generational transfer being delayed that I'm annoyed about (especially considering how it's been natively available for every other generation that allowed it), and I'm sure not the only one.

Thank you. This pretty much hits the nail right on the head. Yeah, sorry, I probably could've picked a better term.

How do you know they didn't plan ahead, but it wasn't enough? How do you measure what is enough and what is not enough? Sony had it happen to them during Xmas and the PlayStation 4 launch, Apple had it happen during pretty much every iOS update, the US Government had it happen when Obamacare launched, EA fucked up Sim City, Blizzard had issues with Diablo III, I am sure Microsoft had something (though I didn't catch it in the news), it just fucking happens. If the US government and Blizzard can't predict this shit accurately, you're DREAMING if you think Nintendo can pull it off.

I think you acting like Nintendo didn't do a thing and could have easily prevented this makes you sound entitled. As I mentioned above, it has happened to better organizations on more predictable events, yet you still expect Nintendo to magically pull off something most companies fail to do. If you really think you can do better, perhaps you should apply to work at Nintendo and we will see how things go the next time something big like this happens.

So I have a bunch of club nintendo codes from Christmas, but I already have platinum for the year.  I don't see anything I want to buy as of now though.  Should I wait and add them later to help make platinum for next year?  When does next year for CN start?  Jan 1st, or do they consider it a different time?

July 1st is when the new year starts for CN. No reason not to sit on them unless you're going to lose a bunch of coins or something.

You're right, I don't know if there was actually anything at all done for this. What I do know, however, is that they have both experience from previous holidays and recent sales numbers that should've given them enough of an idea. Or, like EldritchOnRye mentioned, they know not to release them on the same day in the first place.

Sony didn't crash as badly, and EA & Blizzard are notorious for problems (not to mention how Diablo III was a full game that required a permanent online connection, making it a different beast altogether). I also don't recall the US Government ever trying something like Obamacare ever before, so they lacked something important here: experience. There's other things too but I'm not going any further on that because I'm sure not dragging this into a political debate. I'll admit I haven't heard anything about that Apple thing, though (one of those rare non-iDevice users so I don't follow them), but what I've heard about Apple in general lends me to believe that issues aren't that uncommon.

I think you acting like Nintendo didn't do a thing and could have easily prevented this makes you sound entitled. Okay, first of all, how does thinking Nintendo can be competent make me entitled? They were the ones who decided to release the app on Christmas, they have experience with other years, they had sales numbers to extrapolate from. I'm not expecting them to pull off miracles, but they had these tools to deal with a situation they brought upon themselves (the app release, not the server crash, though that too in a way) and they still somehow managed to come up short. Again, you're right, I don't know if they didn't do a thing (in fact, I never accused them of doing nothing, just not enough, so I'm not sure why you're even saying that), but I'd hope they could at least use information available to them to come up with a valid plan for things like this. Other companies being incompetent isn't a good excuse for everybody to be.

Then again, it's Nintendo. So, yeah. "Whatever."

Lets call a spade a spade and agree that thinking they did nothing and they didn't do enough are the same thing. Your whole point is fairly black and white, since you believe that it could have been prevented (in theory, yes) and that they had the data to prevent this. However, we don't know what the normal figures are and what the holiday figures are, so your whole basis for a point is flawed. Nintendo could have planned ahead for a 300% increase, but a 500% increase happened. At the same time, they could have done absolutely nothing and this happened because they did nothing.

As far as the other companies are concerned, it was a point about how this stuff historically happens. Most times companies / groups fail to get this information right and while it could be incompetence (at least according to you), it could be that it isn't easy to account for this sort of thing and it's wrong to automatically assume that whatever data they had was representative of what their response / result was. This relates back to my point of calling you entitled. You don't seem to care about how this happens a lot, nor do you seem to believe Nintendo or anyone put their best foot forward, you just want the ability to transfer your Pokemon and you want them yesterday.

In either case, I don't wish to continue this argument. I've been in enough arguments to know that you want to be right and believe whatever you believe in absolute. I won't say I am much, if any better, so I am just going to save us all some time and walk away.

Over the past year I've developed some kind of Pavlovian response where I involuntarily roll my eyes every time a text wall rant pops up in my peripheral vision.  Jesus fuck, who cares.

Sitting at slightly over 1500 coins right now...can't decide whether I want to cash in and get the Luigi figure or hold out for something better later on.  I'd be all over that Luigi hat if it fit the XL.

Check the last few pages. An XL can squeeze into the pouch.

Hit 1500 coins and cashed in for the Luigi statue because why not.

For those who ordered a Luigi Statue when it was first listed, when you click on accounts and coins, and then order inquiries, does it say "Order Accepted-Backordered" or something else? I ask because I ordered one on the 18th, it got canceled, then reordered it on the 26th, and that is what it says for me

F- US Postal. There's a reason why the service is losing customers. Everything I get from them is a crap shoot in terms of being damaged. Since this was shipped from halfway across the country, there was little hope.

It says the same thing for my order as well, which I placed on the 18th. I think it only says backordered because the item is not being shipped out until March sometime.

The same thing happened to me, however when I asked here I was just mocked.

Oh hells no. I'd contact the postal service and Nintendo.

I "violated" club nintendo policy by having a family account, and registering the same games on the family account, after a few phone calls to get my account reactivated I did, and got my coins refunded from the Luigi statue, so I reordered a new one. Id recommend if anyone is using a family account like I was to stop using it before you get busted. Im just glad the Luigi statue is still in stock!

But isn't that the point of having a Family account? Families often buy multiple copies of the same game so as not to have to share all the time.

Thats what I thought as well, but the representative said it was against Club Nintendo's policy, and said I had a "suspicious" amount of 3ds xl's and dis xl's registered (my local gamestop gives me the console boxes :D )

I thought you didn't get coins for registering multiple of a type of system on a family account?

multiple? How many? I have 2 wii u's, 2 wii's, 2 3ds's, 4 dsi's under my account.

Haven't checked the thread in awhile but saw the Luigi statue and the nerd in me decided I had to get it so registered a few things I was holding on to for next platinum year and swooped it. Now to build up my un-used coin collection again lol.

The pouch also goes for $15+ and cost 250 coins. 6 of these are worth about $90+, so you can start to see why I don't think the Luigi Statue will be a commonly sold item.
What pouch, the mario and luigi hat pouches are 500 coins each, or were they discounted/on sale or something before?

hope they bring back the reversible pouch though :/
I'm still hoping they bring back those 3DS game cases. Kicking myself for not getting more than one while they were available. Seems really unlikely we'll ever see them again, though...

They reactivated your account? My sister and I both had an account at the same address, they banned us both and wouldn't even let me get my platinum award for the year. I called like 4 times and they told me they didn't have the power to reactivate accounts. Once it is banned it's banned. They said I could make a new account but they wouldn't give me any of my points or platinum award. Maybe they were just lying to me.

So what did you say to get them to reactivate? I will have to try calling again...
