[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I have a download code for Mario Party 2 but it keeps saying "The item corresponding to the download code is not currently being distributed" What's up with that?

Hey just throwing it out there again. If anyone wants to trade a $10 eshop points card for a game and item off club nintendo let me know. I'm trying to get Mario Party well it's on sale.

I'm guessing you're trying it on the Wii U, but it's for the Wii, meaning you can only redeem it through the 'Wii Channel' on the Wii U

Ok I just did, thanks. Does anyone know if the gamecube port for the Wii U will support any other games besides the Smash Bros? Like MK8 or Wii VC games that did on the Wii? Google wasn't that helpful when I searched for that answer.

Most likely.

I highly doubt they brought the GCN controller back just for one game.

I wouldn't expect them to go too crazy with the support for it, however.

My son was playing Mario Party 2 last night with the Wii Classic Controller Pro. It works great with that. It is finally nice to get some use out of that, actually. I only ever used it for Xenoblade Chronicles before (though it can also be used in Mario Kart 8 when we have more than 3 people playing - since we have the pad and 2 Wii U Pro controllers).

It seems like the Gamecube controller is really only necessary for stuff like Smash Bros, and only then for hardened pros at the game - which I am not one of... I'll be just fine using the Wii U pro controller.

I discovered while redeeming Mario Party 2 that I still have 1600 coins on my Wii shop account. Those have been there, untouched, for at least 5-6 years. If they would only step up and have more Wii U VC titles (including N64 stuff), I might buy a few more games to upgrade to the Wii U. It just seems pointless to buy Wii VC titles otherwise, Mario Party 2 excepted. I only got that because for some reason my 11 year-old has been on a Mario Party kick lately, playing the Gamecube games. He had heard this was one of the better ones, so he wanted to try it out.

Just picked up Mario Kart 8 at GameStop for my 3 day old Wii U and am currently downloading my free copy of Pikmin 3! What a great deal, especially new owners.

^ Indeed, it is such a great deal and in combination with what Nintendo showed at E3, I see no reason for anyone to be on the fence any more about getting a Wii U. It is a little kick in the nuts for us early adopters (as most will have all those freebie games already), but at this point I'm happy for anything that increases the Wii U user base. And at least they gave plenty of warning for the promo so I was able to trade in my disc copy of Pikmin 3 towards my Mario Kart 8 preorder, knowing I'd get the game back later (I'm waiting till the new club year in July).

What, letting him play Mario Party 2, or using the Classic Controller Pro?

He's playing LittleBigPlanet 2 right now, after playing Minecraft earlier (on the 360)... Unlike my older Microsoft fanboy son, this one is a little more well-rounded. ;)

Mario Party, he's going to have those scars on his hands for the rest of his life.

Is that just for Mario Party 2? I played all the GC ones and don't remember anything that would do that to you. I'll have to ask him if any of the minigames were painful...

I think it was other N64 versions too but in particular there was at least one game in MP2 that was notorious for how you had to rotate the stick. Nintendo even sent out gloves to wear while playing the game because the N64 stick was doing that people's hands.

No, that was from the original Mario Party. They took the joystick-rotating games out of all the ones after that. IIRC, there were lawsuits because of blisters and such.

No, it was definitely only the first game.

When you download Mario Party 2 for the wii U what type of controllers can you use? The gamepad? Wii U pro?
Mario Party 2 can only be downloaded from within the Wii-mode not from the WiiU eshop so the controllers you can use on it are only the Classic Controller and the Classic Controller Pro. If you download it on a Wii system, you can also use the Gamecube controller if your Wii has GC backwards compatibility.

Uggggggggh.  How did I screw up and have five surveys for 50 coins expire on me last week?!  I though I had everything cleared out through the end of the month.  :headache:

If I have 2 game registrations (MK8 & Pickmin3) that say the product registration expires July 1, will they be there on the 1st for the next year of Club Nintendo or will they be gone on July 1?

Well I don't own a wii or wii remote so my Mario party 2 code is worthless . I can't even get into the wii menu without the controller. $4 paypal gets my Mario party 2 code

You had two years to use those points. It's not like they're giving you a short time to make a decision.
Yes, but I assume the comment was about having nothing they wanted to purchase, not that they didn't have ample time to find something. You figure, I have enough coins to buy any item in the whole history of Club Nintendo NA, yet beyond the Kirby medal I can't say there was a single item I wanted and I doubt I am the only person on this site that feels this way.

Man i didn't know anything about club nintendo when i first started... I literally have 3300 coins (not set to expire this year, but next im assuming) so when this time next year comes around, i am going to have to buy everything on the page... lmao.

So learn the lessons of others here and when there's something you want, or a decent physical item, just get it so that you don't throw a bunch of coins into the virtual void or have to buy a bunch of garbage. Lots of people that have been complaining for the last three months despite there being the Luigi statue, the charging cradle, the hat pouches, and the game cases on top of the games every month. No excuse for anyone to have a pile of wasted coins (especially with Nintendo continually raising prices).

A friend in Brazil offered me his 500 coins since they were expiring and you need a US address. I had him send the Animal Crossing blue pouch to another address. I wish the Zelda posters came back in stock but free is free.

Yes but it has to be a Wii U download. The Wii VC games don't count towards the promotion (unless you upgrade them, then the upgrade fee will account towards your DDP balance).

You could have a pile up if you already brought the game cases, don't own 3DS for the pouches or charging cradle. Doesn't seem like they were making excuses but just saying there's not good stuff to use coins on....you have to remember that unless your on the club Nintendo site everyday when the good stuff goes up, it's gone crazy fast

Only those charging cradles went fast, the other stuff was there for weeks. The point is that even if you don't want something personally there's been plenty of opportunities to empty that coin balance without wasting. It's not like they keep it a secret your coins are expiring and there's plenty of opportunity to see what's expiring. Not to mention that if you have expiring coins in the hundreds or thousands you've had those coins for at least two years and are a fairly avid CN user so even less excuse. People come in here complaining that they have 2,000 coins expiring all the time and how there's nothing to use them on. If someone has that many coins and can't find any opportunity to use them they're being lazy and just want to complain.

I've got over 1k coins right now with nothing expiring. There isn't much I want in the physical side, and already own what I'm interested in digitally.

Hopefully, the next round of games will have some must-haves.

Lots of people that have been complaining for the last three months despite there being the Luigi statue, the charging cradle, the hat pouches, and the game cases on top of the games every month. No excuse for anyone to have a pile of wasted coins (especially with Nintendo continually raising prices).
How is that even an argument?! Your first post brings up 3 items, which mean jack shit if you don't own a 3DS or at least a 3DS XL (a standard 3DS user could use the case) anyway or have 1,500 coins (most people stop at 600 per year, so unless you spent < 300 coins in the past 2+ years, you would be short and have to add coins. Plus this assumes people will want to trade 1,200+ in theoretically usable coins on an item they might just be buying for the sake of buying.). Then your second posts brings up opportunities to spend coins without wasting them, though what difference does it make saving your coins in hopes of getting something you want and end up with random junk or buying a cool item you don't care about? In the end it sounds like both situations the coins are wasted.

I know some people don't like the complaining, but why can't people post their frustration? I mean, hindsight is always 20/20, but its not like it's illogical to save coins just incase Nintendo added something they wanted at the last minute. Especially when you might have blown your load on the cradles and then ended up falling in love with the Luigi statue, only to realize you were too poor to afford it.

The only thing they've offered that I had to have was the gold nunchuck. I'm waiting (likely in vain) for something cool like Japan (or even Europe) gets, but at a reasonable price. I would have liked the Luiigi statue, but felt it was too much. Other than that, I don't want to waste them on junk and would rather wait (and let a few expire from time to time) instead.

can someone explain to me how club points work. I see that I have 630 coins and that I have reached gold status. but it says that 230 coins expire on 6/30/2014. I hear people talking new rewards being put out next month so does that mean if my points expire that I won't be gold anymore? If so should I just go ahead and spend them on some VC games?

You have coins, you can use them on stuff in the store. 230 of your coins will expire at the end of this month. Use them before that happens.
