[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here.

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

If anyone doesn't want their platinum reward, I'm looking for a DKCR code. Willing to trade $20 xbox dollars. ($15 and $5 codes).
I assume it had to do with his last post, but I don't really see what difference it makes since he said he was leaving the site anyway... If he really did then he may not even know that he got banned. Lol

(And by the way, I deleted your trade request - put it in the eShop code trading thread. C'mon, you know better than that!).

Indeed, he reported his own post and explicitly asked to be banned.

While I disagreed with his doom and gloom and got tired of him making the same points over and over (that he didn't like Nintendo stuff, is too busy to play games much any more, doesn't understand why people collect since his house is neat and tidy, etc) he did add to the discussion and he'll be missed. On the other hand, with the diatribe he launched there at the end in response to a relatively innocuous comment directed at him (and others), I'll get over it...

Oh come on now. While I guarantee Strait Edge Follower is wrong about it being a piece of cake (the Wii U simply emulates the Wii system, which is quite different than coding the system to recognize Wii games and emulate it as part of the Wi U software), its not like the complaint was invalid either. It can be annoying having to change controllers between modes and from a user standpoint it would be a lot simpler to have one. Heck, it makes a lot more sense for it to just work than having to read descriptions and details to see make sure it works.
Without knowing the nitty gritty of the system architecture it would seem from a top level perspective that some sort of emulation wrapper for the controller would be entirely possible. The two things that keep it from happening are likely that it's an extremely low priority which outweighs the costs of development. The second is that while VC games like that don't use motion controls at all I think every actual Wii game does require it. So I don't really see them implementing something that's only going to work with some games and further confusing the situation.

All I want is the card case to come back since the one I ordered last year is full. Chances of seeing that come back or do we really think they are going all digital?

I'm sure it's entirely possible, but it is a lot more time consuming and complex than what they did. Lets also not forget we're talking about the same company that is charging you an upgrade fee for said features (more or less), so it's not in their best interest to implement said features anyway. I also don't think it would complicate anything, since these complaints are typically directed at VC games, not the actual Wii games. However, this is all pretty pointless, since the system is better than nothing and Nintendo directly profits off this feature not being present.
So any game that just says Wii U above it gets me points? If it has Wii/Wii U then that won't give me points?
correct.

Partly true as they just don't make the types of games I enjoy these days.

But I was having a discussion about how the 3DS wasn't going to hit DS numbers, or probably even PSP numbers, and another poster was disagreeing with the latter.

Of the games you list, none are system sellers. How many people are going to buy a 3DS for the Pokemon remakes who didn't already buy one for X/Y? How many will pick one up for MH4 who didn't get one for MH3? Phoenix Wright/Layton are fairly popular, but in their niche and aren't AAA system sellers. Project STEAM is a steampunk RTS. Maybe it will end up selling some hardware, but more likely to be niche like most console RTS games.

I did't see anything that's getting them from the 45 million sold to anywhere near the 80 million PSPs sold.

As for discussing sales, that's a big part if the hobby for me. I enjoy bullshitting on forums about game industry trends, predictions etc almost as much as playing games anymore. But is obvious this just isn't the site for that and places like GAF are more worth my time. It it is pretty clear that this site just sucks for those kind of discussions, and has just generally sucked since the move to 3.0, That and the resignation of some of the good mods etc. sped up the sites decline and have left it too much of a slickdeals-esque cesspool of broke ass losers who fail at life and can't afford shit without bargains, hoarding and reselling/flipping etc. I should have made my exit from here years ago and will do so now. Peace.
I was the straw that broke the camel's back! :D

I just love this part:

That and the resignation of some of the good mods etc. sped up the sites decline and have left it too much of a slickdeals-esque cesspool of broke ass losers who fail at life and can't afford shit without bargains, hoarding and reselling/flipping etc
First of all, the only mod who left is Shrike. Oh yeah. I guess sp00ge, too. Regardless, Shrike was way more strict with off-topic talk and handing out bans. dmaul probably would have garnered one for all his off-topic posts. At the very least, his stuff would have been deleted more often. So I'm not sure how that made things worse for him. Don't get me wrong, Shrike was an awesome mod - did most of the work for us ;). But I don't think any actual or perceived decline in the site is because of him one way or another.

Secondly, I resemble the rest of that remark. Well, except that I don't really think I failed at life but yet for some reason I still like to get stuff via bargains. I don't have to in order to afford my gaming habit, but it sure helps. I mean, isn't that the point of this site?

If I agree with you, would you agreed to never ban me? ;)

Anyone wanna buy my code? Digital games are wastes of space for me.

$15 and I'll hook you up with a $30 download (DKC:R 3D, or Game & Warior)

Nintendo never had ethernet and I have no idea why. The adapters are really cheap though. I have one right next to me and I haven't used this thing in forever.

ALSO: TO THOSE WHO ARE CONSIDERING USING A FLASH DRIVE FOR GAMES

I have noticed a definite lag while playing Wind Waker in some areas. I can almost guarantee that it is due to slower read/write times, but it is only during certain times of the game. It does get unbearable when there is a lot of enemies on the screen, but eh. This is the cheapest method to playing games.
I had a gamecube with an rj-45 connector to match my PS2 ethernet connection.

Were you guys aware that dmaul sold his Wii U?
D'oh! I should have added that to the list of things he kept repeating. I don't know how I forgot that one.

AugustAPC - you need to post your offer in the eShop code trading thread:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/332626-nintendo-wiiwii-u3ds-eshop-code-trading-thread/

In other news, even though most people here are slovenly, rabid, Nintendo fanboy failures at life, and probably already have all these games, the Best Buy B1G1 on select 3DS games is live. I picked up a bunch (Kirby Triple Deluxe, Yoshi's New Island, Mario Party, Mario Golf, Tomodachi Life). Which one will be next year's Platinum reward? Who knows! Buy them all now so you are covered and can complain that much harder next year!

(In all seriousness, though, this is a great deal on these games. If you have GCU, they are either $12, $14, or $16 each and for many of these titles that is probably the lowest they'll ever get).

I also got Game and Wario not too sure about it yet...

Oh, well . . . At least i didn't forget to pick it this year. =( (i'm looking at you playing cards)

You try the download later option and leaving your 3DS closed for an hour?
.
I did I left it like that for 2 hours and it wenr up by 2%. I had to sit in front of the 3ds and keep pressing redownload everytime it stopped. Took way to long for a game thats like 2gb considering I downloaded the Destiny beta thats 5+gb in 20min.

I put DKC to download at 6pm It ended up finishing at 2am.

I had a gamecube with an rj-45 connector to match my PS2 ethernet connection.
Isn't that a third party connector, unlike the ps2 one? I'm pretty sure he was referring to nintendo making a connector for it's own system (although, I think there was an official one in Japan, but again I think this conversation is about official ones in the US).

Oh yeah, I was able to sell my (still sealed) Game & Wario disc for $26 shipped. After shipping and fees, I cleared just over $20. So, yeah, thanks Nintendo for the $20 for reaching platinum. I guess that's more than I got out of the last few prizes which are just sitting on a shelf somewhere ;).

I was going to redeem my award for Game & Wario earlier today but the site was down every time I checked. It seems to be up now.

You know, I find it entertaining how short peoples memories can really be. I wonder how many people that are here complaining remember what Club Nintendo used to be before it was a rewards program. There was a time, circa the GBA, where registering your games and systems offered no rewards; I don't even remember if they offered an extended 90 days on registering hardware back then.

I registered my things then, just like I register my things now. The only difference is, they reward me and I have an opportunity (if I chose to take it) to provide them with feedback. If I liked something, and would like more I can share that opinion. If something didn't mesh with me, I also have that ability; and this is the closest most of us getting to sharing our opinions with the makers of products we buy.

In turn, they reward me for the time I take for registering with either physical goods (which had been decreasing but aren't totally non-existant) or digital items (that give me instant gratification and have bolstered my 3DS software significantly). Was I a bit disappointed that there were no unique physical goods this year? Surely.

However, I also know the reality that they've given out a lot of promotions lately. I also realize that some people really abuse the program, in an effort to get financial gains. We also have to face the facts that Nintendo hasn't been getting the results they have previous in turns of financial yield. So while I won't say I am completely content with whatever they give me, I am not so ungrateful to act like this is the worst thing ever.

Nintendo is one of the best companies out there, whether it be software/customer service/quality of products/loyalty rewards. In truth, we should remember that they don't have to have Club Nintendo at all; loyalists like myself wouldn't stop buying software just because of some slip in the package. If you buy Nintendo software/hardware for any sort of gain, then you should re-evaluate your purchases.

Remember kids, Nintendo means "Leave luck to heaven" and if you're gambling on Club Nintendo rewards then you're asking to roll snake eyes; take it for what it is, and stop putting so much stock into it.

I went with Wario too. It's the kind of game I'd probably never want enough to pay for but the MP sounds fun and it's unique to the Wii U. I already had DKCR as a cart and traded it to Target during the triple trade ins, so I'm not sure I'd play it again.

I already have all these games (note I am not complaining), I too am grateful for anything, it is really nice though when they send something physical, maybe their poor sales performance recently has them cutting back? I'm sure mailing out thousands of CDs or statues would be one of the first things to cut off the budget. Anyone one a metroid code? I guess PM me,

First off, what does A have to do with B? While I can't comment on others, I personally wouldn't participate in Club Nintendo without the prizes, since I don't really care about registering my products. In either case, now that Nintendo is offering stuff, they've opened themselves up to complaints about what they've offered. Mostly because they manage to make NA the worst region without question and other more competent programs are handled better.

Look at it like this, on one had we have Nintendo rewarding people who spent approximate $300 and filled out 16~ surveys a prize worth $5 and 300 in coins. Going off current coin values, this is at most $17 dollars in overall value, but it's confined to whatever Nintendo decides to offer. This could be stuff you want or stuff you don't, there really isn't a middle ground (collectibles aren't much better, but at least they're collectible). Then you have Sony who gave 250 in points to anyone that messed around in the E3 app. I used the app and I can outright tell you it only took 5 minutes of effort to get the coins. They also offered the first 5,000 people each day a free PlayStation Now voucher, which offered a number of games of various levels of quality for free. They also recently did a promo for Sex Tape that took maybe a minute and gave another 250 points. This is the equivalent of $5, but because they took another like 10 days to send out the points, they tossed in another 100 or $1 for using the E3 app.

Furthermore, who exactly is abusing the program for financial gain? Physical products are finite, so regardless of who buys what for why, they still run out of stock for the asking price all the same. Digital products are only worth up to $10 thus far and you could probably sell the vouchers for the $3 - $5 you would get offered for the games. Most promotions are about drumming up interest, sales and cash. I concede people are abusing the Mario Kart 8 promo, but Nintendo HAD to see that coming and are probably okay with it given how that probably increased sales an absurd amount. Like, just looking at the posts here you can see many CAGs bought 4 or so copies and that really adds up / inflates sales / makes Nintendo look amazing.

Anyway, I think so many people are at this complaint stage because its been 5 years... Thats ample time to fix the program, change the program, listen to people or do something, yet Nintendo continues to make it worse. Like I've been around since day 1 and in the TOTAL SPAN of Club Nintendo NA I've only wanted 1 item. This is true for a lot of people who continue to put into the program and are left with thousands of coins and reward vouchers that end up giving them no value. Especially since Nintendo seems to be going for newcomers instead of rewarding the most loyal. In many ways Nintendo is taking us for granted and some people like you say to basically accept it, which makes me sick. It seems like everyone is suppose to accept / tolerate anyone / anything (besides me for whatever reason) and do so with a smile on your face because thats whats socially acceptable.

This. Not as many people would be complaining if Club Nintendo America wasn't getting worse each year, not to mention the fact that UK and Japan's CN is better.

I just realized the PIN inserts read "Earn Exclusive Rewards." I wonder if that's eventually gonna change...
Why would it?

We should all start a class action lawsuit!
I know you're joking, but it wouldn't work. Exclusive is fairly open / undefined in this setting and could easily mean people who join this program get rewards, but said rewards themselves are not exclusive (like how they've been offering games for years and never changed it). Same goes for elite rewards, since they're excluding people from earning said rewards and it meets the basic conditions to use the term "exclusive."

Pretty much no one other than those truly loyal fans uses club Nintendo. Not even my cousin uses it and he is extremely loyal to Nintendo. Now what this comes down to is Nintendo rewarding it's most loyal fans which it should be doing. As kids move onto tablets and smartphones and teenagers move onto Xbox and play station Nintendo should be doing more to say... Hey we appreciate your business... Loyal fans.. Not giving us a crappy selection of rewards, and the good, actually useful rewards making them an absurd amount of coins and limiting the supply to those few who happen to be near a computer at the time of the announcement.

Also the problem I have with these promo's is the digital games will not fit on the system's storage forcing you to purchase an external hard drive with a power supply because that is the only kind recommended by Nintendo and also the hardest and most expensive to come by. So in fact this promo is costing us because now most of us have to have a big clunky hard drive and an extra power supply taking up space on our tv stands just to hold the promo games Nintendo gives out.

The other thing is that when a company creates a rewards program you are paying to use it in the cost of what ever you are buying. What I am saying is that all these rewards programs out there whether it be a grocery store rewards program or club Nintendo are costing us consumers because the cost of the rewards program is factored into or built into the cost of what you are buying. I for one would be willing to sacrifice club Nintendo for cheaper games, accessories or hardware.

From the website:

"These great items are only available at Club Nintendo, for Club Nintendo members."

From most/many titles:

"Register your software and complete a short survey to earn Coins that can be redeemed for rewards only available at Club Nintendo(TM)."

And (at least) from Mario Kart 8:

"Use your Coins to get rewards only available to Club Nintendo members!"

Granted, these are for the Coin redeemable rewards, not Elite, but still, if anything, you'd think it would be the other way around.

How is this even true and do you have proof? Also you're literally posting this on CAG, which just recently posted a thread for B1G1 on select 3DS games. I have been buying the majority of my Nintendo games for less that MSRP because of CAG and sales.

Also is there a way to put some users on ignore? Holy ****, I just do not care for this discussion any more. Same people repeating the same thing. It's not even amusing anymore.
