Condemned 2: Bloodshot - Gen Discussion & Info

So, yeah, what difficulty level are you guys playing on? I'm playing on normal and I'm having a hard time. Do I just suck, or is the game actually a lot harder than the first? Like I said, I played the first on normal and didn't have any trouble until the later levels, but this one seems much more difficult.

Hey, I'm starting to get those audio glitches too, but mostly with people when they're running towards me and yelling and whatnot. The sound cuts on a little too late.

I'm playing on normal and it's much harder (I'm not very far into it, I'm at the hotel.. just stepped outside the hotel and found a shotgun, actually).I couldn't understand why the combo system wasn't working until I figured out that even though the on-screen combo graphic shows the right trigger being clicked multiple times, you should only click it once. I've started off combos and it would then say hit either the right or left trigger, so I did multiple times, and they'd always block it. When I hit them just once, it works every time.

I'm playing on hard and it's perfect for me. It's not too difficult where I'm dying every 10 seconds and not too easy where it's not much different than normal. I played through the first one twice and didn't really have much of a challenge so I started on hard this time. It's challenging enough to be fun but not frustrating.
Any that has played. How is the Gunplay? I hope they didn't focus on adding more guns and more bullets to the mix.
Not much gunplay at all. Just like the first game.

I beat the first level last night and I am waiting for it to get dark again so I can play some more.

But yeah so far its awesome. I really like the new combat system and those slow motion beatdowns are insane.

Oh and the game is still fucking creepy. Black goo monsters are quite disturbing.

I'm on hard and I can't get past the part in the first level where there's a bunch of oil sack monsters on the roof and spawning from the oil clumps on the wall. Every time I try and kill the ones on top I get gangbanged from all sides from the ones on the ground.

For the guys on the ceiling, stand back and throw your weapon at them. In that room there's a pile of bricks that never runs out. Just use those.
I'm playing on normal, and the game is harder than the first. But once you get the combat system down, it's not that bad at all.
Well, I figured I'd get the hang of it eventually. I'm just thinking ahead to what the later levels are going to be like.

I was considering starting over on easy, but I guess I'll just continue on normal.
I saw a review that said the last level are really gun heavy
The first game was like that. The very next to last level
the field next to the farm house
was gun heavy until the final boss fight.

I have also really enjoyed the multiplayer (color me suprised). It's not Halo or CoD4 but it's damn fun, and I have jumped a couple of times.

The second to last level? The farmhouse? There wasn't a lot of gunplay there. Some enemies that come through the windows from outside have randomly chosen weapons, so maybe you just got a lot of guys with shotguns. For me it was fire axes on the last playthrough I remember.

EDIT: Oh, that field. I remember now. But it was just in the broken greenhouses. That one spot where you needed guns because a ninja and 3-4 fat guys rushed you at the same time.

I just beat the second level and holy shit this game is very unsettling.

This game is awesome even though it scares the shit out of me.
I just beat the second level and holy shit this game is very unsettling.
I was just about to post that exact statement. Now that I've played the second level, I really, really don't want this game to descend back into the territory of the first level. I like fighting criminals, not spooky oil monsters.

I love the unnerving, crooked screeches you hear every time you bash somebody with a melee weapon. I get a little ping of fear every time I hear it. I never thought melee combat could any more badass than it was in the first Condemned, but Monolith found a way.
Any that has played. How is the Gunplay? I hope they didn't focus on adding more guns and more bullets to the mix.
The pump shotgun has a lower damage rating than the pipe!
The pump shotgun has a lower damage rating than the pipe!
When it gives damage rating, I'm pretty sure they're comparing the melee damage. Not the bullet damage.
I can't find the last emmiter in the first level. I know what room its in, but I just can't find the thing. Help?
Check near the ceiling. They like to put them high up where you can only destroy them by throwing your weapon at it.

I had some trouble finding them as well, and since I'm not sure which one was last, I'll just list them so you can find it:

- There's the first one in the basement. That one's easy.
- There's one above a doorway to the right of where you see the oil monster things crowded around a dead body. You have to throw your weapon to hit it.
- There's one on a roof somewhere. It's the part where you throw a brick at the ladder hatch to climb up to the roof. Once you've fought off all the enemies, take a left from the ladder and it should be on the wall of the next building. You have to throw a brick at it.

Ah, good point. I was too busy getting swarmed by little goo guys to think about that. Only played the first level, but I'm really enjoying this game.
Same here. I play it in small doses :D
Yeah I am playing it in small doses too, but since the weekend has arrived I might be playing in longer sessions as long as it doesn't ever get so scary that I have to turn it off for some time.
Is the third level as long as the second? I kinda want to play right now, but I don't want to be scared for too long today...
Um I have no idea, I just got home and I am waiting till it gets dark so I can shut the door and turn the sound up :D.

Also to that other guy, the guns are really powerful and when it says the pipe has better damage it means melee wise.

I wish I had a 5.1 system for this game. Once I get some money I need to get one, although I would have trouble deciding where to put the rear speakers.

Heh, I do that too

My solution was to just buy some really nice noise-canceling headphones. It's no substitution for surround sound, but not being able to hear anything but the game makes it a lot scarier.

Yeah I have some nice headphones for my PC since I am too cheap to buy a sound system for my PC when I have awesome headphones. Playing STALKER in the dark with the sound loud using the headphones really creeped me out.

There was this one area I was so creeped out that I played the CAGcast while I was playing so I wouldn't be so scared haha.

I should pick up a nice 5.1 system in May or something when I have been working full time for a couple weeks since this semester doesnt end till the middle of April.

oh fuck.. the
mannequins
are back on the train track level.. fuck.. i was like "hey that guy's not moving.. wtf.." so i walk up.. and hit him.. and turn around.. and they're everywhere!!

Yeah, that got ruined for me in the IGN review. I really wish I hadn't watched that, because the would've scared the shit out of me had I discovered it on my own.

I probably won't get to play this for a while, but..

Is it scarier than the first game, or just kind of on-par? I remember Condemned being almost traumatizing in some locations (that department store was the very definition of pure evil).

I think this one is much scarier, personally. The second level was, as others have stated, unsettling. It's hard to explain. The first game induced a different brand of fear than the second game does. Even though there are more weapons available to you now, you somehow feel defenseless and vulnerable as you're playing.

The enemies are much more unpredictable than they were in the first. (I can't tell you how many times someone snuck up behind me in the second level). As a result, you feel...unsafe, when you're playing. It somehow gives you this impending fear that someone is right behind you, which causes you to keep turning around (in game) only to see a long, dark, empty hallway, which is somehow scarier than it would've been to see someone there.

It's awesome. You should buy it.

Condemned 2 makes Condemned seem like Carnival Games.

I just played the first mission and was woefully disappointed. The combat seemed a lot less responsive than in the last game. There's too many moves and getting the timing down on all of them is really hard. Those oil guys are especially annoying. I liked how in the first one it was just attack and block, but now you need to throw in hook attacks and kicks and it just feels weird and wrong. It seems like too much of an action game and less about scares. Speaking of which, so far it is nowhere in the same league as the first one in terms of being scary. I'm only one mission in, so I hope it gets better.

Yeah, the second level destroys the first one. Just keep playing. It gets a lot scarier. And you will get the hang of the combat system. The first level was, obviously, mostly just a tutorial, so it requires you to pull off difficult combos. Once you're on the second level and you can fight at your own pace, you have a lot more fun.

Heh, I just saw your post on the gamefaqs board. Like I said there, you don't need to throw in hooks and kicks. There's different combos, once you get used to the timing of parries and attacks, it gets much better. The first level is some weird intro to it all too. I'm on the third level and its gotten pretty good.

I'll be starting the third level tomorrow. I was too tired today (going on about four hours of sleep), and I scare much easier when I'm tired, so I thought it best to wait. I'm going to sleep in tomorrow and probably spend the rest of the day playing this and Brawl.

I never throw in hook attacks and kicks. I play just like I did in the first, with the added bonus of the running elbow smash to stun the enemy.

Run, elbow smash, punch, punch, block, punch, punch, etc.

Sometimes I'll run up, to the elbow smash, follow with two punches, then hit punch again for a SMASH move or whatever it's called.

And the button timing isn't weird. For combos, what threw me off is that the icon shows that you need to mash the button over and over, but you don't. When it slows down and an icon appears, hit that button ONCE. If you hit it more than once, the enemy usually blocks it.

If it wasnt for the fact people dont know which team they're on..

How hard is it to notice if youre on the team with the clown faces.. or the non clown faces..?

Oh.. and the relentless usage of the fists.. good god.. I played five games. not one person ever used the damn weapons.. just fists..

Shit! I loved the first one, but thanks to budget constraints I can't pick this up till It hits the $30's (the free copy at CC will only net me about $20 if im lucky on eBay) so I'm going to grab it then. Do you guys think the multiplayer is a complete throw away or redeeming? I'm hoping with $30 I can get some use out of the multiplayer.

If we can manage to get a 'crime scene' game going with just CAGs, it would probably be pretty fun.

Definitely a significant degree scarier.

That would be awesome. We could also work on some of the harder acheivements.

I got a little further into the game, beating the second mission, and it's gotten a little better, but not quite enough. There's still way too much obligatory combat for a horror game and so far I've been woefully underwhelmed by the investigation elements.

I was all excited when I heard that the game let you solve investigations yourself (the biggest missed opportunity in the original, I thought), but so far that's mostly included guessing highly subjective answers to completely arbitrary questions. Being scored on whether you say "There is a lot of blood," or "there's blood everywhere," is about the most rubbish idea of a "puzzle" I've come across in a game. Even worse, is that there are good ideas here, but they're executed so poorly that they would have been better left out completely. For example, there's that puzzle where you have to say what room number you're in, but the number has been scratched off the door. If the game let you enter the room number yourself whenever you wanted it would have been a well executed (albiet easy) puzzle. But instead you can only select the answer from a multiple choice selection that only pops up when you're looking at a specific important item. I could handle the multiple choice thing, but having the quizes so strictly structured that you have to find the hotspot where they pop up is just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why can't they just say "What's the cause of death?" and after you've looked at things yourself you could hit a button to go into answer mode? That's what I was hoping for, not the guesswork involved in this nonsense.

I'm not trying to flame the game as I really wanted to like it (I was on the verge of buying it day one), but I thought it was going to be like the first Condemned but with better combat and puzzles. And while it's added more depth to those, the new elements are all rather shoddy and take away a lot more than they add.

Are those oil monsters a big part of the game past the first level? I wonder if there's a finite amount of them because they seemed to be spawning infinitely towards the very end of the first level where there was a spout coming up the floor.

Not really. I'm on the fifth or sixth level and they're there again. But they haven't been a HUGE part of the game so far

Good. Those things are a pain in the ass. They're not really scary, and not too much fun to fight either. Is everything still way too dark?
I'm on the doll factory. Stupid exploding dolls! :bomb:
Huh...I never had a problem with the dolls. If you run into one just kick it twice and it will fall apart.

How many levels are there? I don't want to beat the game too quickly. I'm at the museum right now.
