Confirmed: GS/EB Edge 10% discount card for $2!!! GI postcard or online pdf
Mine came with tape already covering it, but the ink still got rubbed away in the 60 or so days I've been carrying it in my wallet. It does tend to be pretty rough on the collection of cards retailers have forced me to carry. I need to get one of those All-Ett wallets.
My card has faded 3 times since February WITH the sticker on the card and is close to fading away a fourth time. Your best bet is just to photocopy the card so that you always have the number on hand just in case, so that they'll be able to print of a new sticker.

I don't know if the sticker is causing the issue, or just crappy ink, but in any case it's been slightly frustrating.

According to one clerk, it's the acid in the adhesive in the sticker/tape that eats away the ink. He said they used to get acid-free tape to cover the stickers, but corporate stopped sending them any, so they got the cheap acidic stuff. To stop it from fading, he put a strip of tape down backwards on top of the barcode/number and taped it down with two more strips of tape. It's been okay for a month or so.

It's good to keep a copy of the number, if not the whole card in case it's lost or the sticker fades.
So, if your card fades, they call and get the number?
If you got it by mailing in this card, they won't have a subscription number or any information to look you up by since it all goes through Game Informer's subscription database. That's what I had the biggest problem with when trying to use my faded card.

I suggest as soon as you get your card you make a photocopy of it for your records. Also if the sticker is even the little bit faded you might want to ask the clerk to print out a new sticker for you next time you are at a store before it gets too bad.

Finally, this is YMMV, but a manager at a store around here always prints out some extra stickers and puts them on the back of a couple of the store's business cards so you have multiple copies. You might want to ask them if they will do that for you. I can see them shutting you down for fear of you passing out the extra cards to other friends, but this manager in particular actually told me to give mine out to family/friends so they could take advantage of the benefits, so who knows. :D

Here's a bit of info that may spell the END of this loophole for MANY of us.

I was flipping through the latest issue of Game Informer in the one out of town GS the other day and I noticed that the Edge Card offer on the bottom of the newer postcards in the magazines now says $10 for the Edge card.

So, hopefully you all can keep using the old pdf or old postcards or scans of old postcards, since I believe this deal is DEAD otherwise.

When I signed up the clerk printed out a second sticker for me. :D Wow, good customer service at GS. :whistle2:s

If your GS still has copies of last month's GI (GH4), browse through the copy and you should be able to find the postcard with the $2 offer on it. You can just "borrow it". ;)
Clerk printed new sticker for me after it wouldnt scan. Didnt even ask.
The clerk did the same for me. Finally, after hitting 5 various GS with multiple employees, one finally decides to take the extra time to print one out. However, she also took the time to give me a nice $2 refreb pentalty for a trade in, so its mixed -_-

my edge card expires in october, so i took the $2 card out of the gh4 issue of gameinformer when i was at GS trading in some games. sent it out today, so hopefully i get it right before my card expires.

Hmmm, I think I should try out for a $2 while I can, even though my card does expire until October, better get it done now while its possible still avaliable.

Sent my card in for the $2 a week ago, and got a letter back saying it is $10 now and that is what i owe. I might call them and complain.

I sent my check around June 20 with the $2 GI card, and it was cashed July 02, according to my checking account. I still haven't received my card, though, and I wonder if I'll actually get it. Has anyone not received their card after their check was cashed?

They took their bloody long sweet time to ship my card after they cashed my check. It was last December though.

this deal is pretty much dead, just go and pay the $10 or $15 in store. I broke even with the number of trades I have been doing over 20 trades in. Not to mention the discount when flipping to BBV

My card (sticker) is faded beyond recognition but I know the number. Would they print up a new sticker even though they can't read the number on the card?

They have the ability to print out a new sticker, a clerk did it for me without asking, but the dozens of employees I met before decided to play guess and just entered until they got it right XP

true, mods should kick it to the grave

That's interesting. I still haven't received anything, but my $2 check was cashed yesterday so I assume I'll be getting a card in the mail. Unless they say I "owe" them another $8.

Got my card today as well.. yay! It says it's valid through "0809" so I got a 12.5 month card, I guess. ;) I rarely buy used games and can't justify this at its normal price but I am sure I can make my $2 back.

(used a one-time used credit card about a month ago)

Same for me. Also, even if you don't use it, you could probably sell it for $5 and make $3. :D

With the new 20% off used games I may have to make a stop tomorrow and put this thing to good use...

Ack! I'm doing just what they WANT me to do! ;)

I got my card in the mail today as well. Amazingly quick turnaround -- about a week. Also valid thru 8/09. Great deal. Wish they weren't jacking it up to $10. Otherwise I'd definately do this every year.

My # is already worn off the back of the card.

Any idea how to get a new sticker?
Store assoc. was no help. He blamed the tape that was over the sticker.

You should be able to just go in and ask for a new one.

But if it does has the clear tape over it you should be able to take a blowdryer over it and it'll come back. (A trick I recently learned while at gamestop)

Thanks, will try that when at home.

I also got mine today, and it's also valid through 08/09! :D

got mine today too, sent out the payment around the 4th of July weekend. And I never even had a GameInformer subscription!

So others have gotten denied...I wonder if it's too late to use the 6/08 original postcard that I have? I wrote a check for $2 and I'm debating on whether to mail it out and whether it'd be a waste of a stamp...

I did the cheapass thing pasting a spare card to the outside of an envelope about a week ago and recieved my card today.

Are people just printing the scan of the subscription card, filling it out, and sending it out in an envelope? Is there any more to it than that?

@ cheapkevin: I printed only the front scan (top image) of the card and sent that and a check for $2 not more than 10 days ago and mine came in the mail today, 8/18. They haven't even cashed the check yet! Make sure you send in the copy that shows the $2 deal.

Just as an FYI, don't put tape over your Edge barcode when you get it. I thought I'd plan ahead and protect it by putting a layer of tape over it, but its completely worn and illegible after a couple weeks already. Oh yeah, also write down your Edge card number the moment your get it too.

The tape you probably used wasnt acid free, which ate the ink.

I took the Clear Circle Sticker that GS puts on New Gutted Games when sold and had them put it over my barcode. It still scans after two months and I've taken it in and out of my wallet at least once a day.

Tomorrow I'm going to send in my request for a $2 Edge Card. I'll let you know if it is accepted or not. Maybe it depends on who opens the envelope, kinda how on Amazon it depends which CSR opens your price reduction email.
but i never used it. somehow, i lost it when i was going to GS...
you might be able to get a card back like i did.... email gamestop support on the website and go in to B&M with a backbone, but a call to corporate should work.
If you subscribed to Game Informer with your Edge Card, the number is somewhere on the address section of the magazine.
Guys, technically all you need is the number to get the discount and have the GS rep punch it in. They can even make you a new card if they're nice. Get your number from the mag.
Is this still working, and does anyone have an active link?
I could've swore I save a copy of the PDF somewhere...maybe it's at home.

Here's what the Internet Archive has as of December 2006: LINK

Not sure how up to date that copy is. I have a few hardcopies at home I can compare it against after work.
