COWABUNGA DUDES! TMNT out now on XBLA - 400pts!
This game's a blast but damn can you speed through it.

Also, I really feel the need for the DoA 4 stick to play this game.
That sounds like good idea.

And you would think co-op would be easier, but it's not. Limiting you to only 20 lives is a pain in the ass. Single player is easy cuz you can die 200 times and it won't matter.

Wow, I didn't even realize co-op limits you to 20 lives, I guess we were good enough to keep it under that anyway. Then again, are you talking about Live co-op or local co-op?

I actually started playing the game in a "modified" arcade style with the controller on my knee, my left thumb on the left control stick, and my right index pushing the face buttons. That seemed to work really well but I was absolutely DYING for an arcade stick by the end of the game.

online does, not sure about local play. I think you have pretty much unlimited lives in single player and local play, well 10,000 lives to be exact.
The NES version is what I played for hours upon hours, I just remember it being easier than this.
The NES version is MUCH easier. I was able to clear the original game without dying back in the day, but I must've died 15 times going through the arcade one on single player. As was already said, there are far fewer enemies on the screen (with less health, even), and the bosses are easier to exploit. Oh, and the jump kick was far more reliable and effective in the NES version, too.
The bosses in the NES version had patterns you could exploit and beat with out taking damage
so does this one

i can beat all the bosses without getting hit once, all have simple patterns

Please post one for the rock dude.
Please post one for the rock dude.
Here:

Y axis position -- stand right 'underneath' the boss and attack. If you gauge the distance, you can hit the boss and they can't hit you. Notice when they start moving down, that's your cue to move a bit down yourself to keep them from being in a position they can hit you. This tactic really helps beat bosses like General Traag with little to no continues lost.
wow... horrible review. sounded more like a rant about growing up and the game being cheaper...?
No one has ever accused IGN of having good reviews.

I don't understand why they don't just give these quarter munching machines a setting for "continues" or whatever. That way, if you can only insert a coin twice or something, it'll make the game a lot more challenging.

I find it interesting that you get 20 "coins" to work with.
20 quarters = $5.00 = 400 Microsoft Points
You get what you pay for! :D

btw, are the continues split between all four players? Like, if all four turtles were to die at the same time, would they end up getting five continues each?

No they are not. Each turtle has 20 continues individually. So if one turtle dies then only that turtle would have 19 continues without affecting the rest.

This game is so much fun. I played a bunch of 3-4 player co-op games last night and I almost beat it but I lost to Shredder. All my buddies were dead so it was just me against him and he got me with the turtle ray on my last guy :bomb:

Man I am starting to hate this one game a week schedule. Basically Simpsons and Turtles in Time used the same arcade board, xmen used a prototype version so the emu code should be the same. I just want them to release the other 3 all at once now. I have 1200 pts ready to go lol.

If it were that easy Microsoft would but there's a myraid of licensing issues involved in bringing those games out. Its a small miracle that somehow Konami (who made the original TMNT arcade game) and Ubisoft (the current holders of the TMNT license) were able to get together and make a deal to bring out this game.

Don't get me wrong, I want to see them as well but I'm not all that optimistic that it'll happen. I think that with the movie coming out though, our best bet will be seeing the Simpsons arcade game next. Hopefully this game will sell extremely well so that game companies will work together to bring out more of these games.

I think TMNT is doing really well so maybe they will see this and release turtles in time...

Anyone want to play 4-player co-op. Everytime I try to play people quit and the game restarts!

My gamertag is bhaines23... add me as a friend and let's play!

I'm aware of the licensing issues, but I also know that once money is involved, people will slash the red tape.

I've beaten the game a few times online, but always end up dying at the end. Mostly due to jackasses hanging back trying to get achievements while two of us do most of the work. Can't wait until the achievement whores move on to the next game.

If anyone wants to play 4 player co-op message me on Live.

Agreed, but why can't publishers just use that as an excuse not to bring out these games, just as they use the "certification" excuse to not get more games out per week. I'm not saying I have any answers, but they could get it done like TMNT if they really wanted to.

Got my 360 back today and bought TMNT, just as fun as I remembered it from the arcades. Played a few co-op games. If anyone wants to co-op sometime, feel free to add me.

Man I love co-op, I've been lucky enough that I've played with funny people every game. Last night I played with some cags and it was fun. Hope to get some more games going on tonight.
Anybody down to play tonight? Send me a game invite or friend request - RudyPants is my XBL tag.
I'll be on, add me, look at my sidebar for tag.

Anyone think the success of this game could persuade Konami to bring some of their other games to the Live Arcade? I know everyone's wanting X-Men Arcade or Simpsons Arcade, but how about Skate Or Die?

If nothing else, I demand Zombies Ate My Neighbors.

I plan to get this as soon as i get back home tommorrow. I'm currently several states away for work and don't have the means to download for my 360 today. If anyone wants to play I don't have a headset either but my username is
Crowbb Live

i dont think that will come out..isnt there gonna be an xbox360 retail game coming out that's like that game?

I'm sick of playing with these jackasses online...

They either are trying to get achievements and run away from the bosses, or they have full life and grab all the pizzas.

Monster Madness or something, I think. I know ZAMN is wishful thinking, as it's supposedly headed to the Wii's VC. Dammit, I can dream.
i just noticed the Wii VC has TMNT too. is it the same version as the XBLA one?
Its the NES version so I think it will be a bit easier. Its not out yet anyway...Monday apparently.

Now which game was the port of the arcade? TMNT for the NES..and wasn't there a TMNT II for the NES?

..Or was the arcade port on the SNES?

The only ones I remember are a really crappy NES game (ugh, it was so boring) and Turtles In Time...which, they better bring to the VC!

In local multiplayer can you switch turtles when you die?

Man I played this game for like FIVE + hours today. Theres a reason this game is one of my childhood favorites, and I wasted so many quarters at the Burger King arcade back in the day and screamed when I got it for my NES on my bday.

But damn! Me and three others got to Shredder... and he splitt into like 6! We died laughing. Still have yet to beat Shredder and live to tell about it.
Sorry if this has been asked but is this the same game as the TMNT 2 NES game?
NOOO ITS NOT!

The NES version is watered down graphically, has 2 extra levels, and different bosses.

It is similar...not the same...not a port. This is a port of the real arcade game.

EDIT: Here is something I posted earlier in the thread that describes the differences...

The NES version was a bit longer, with two extra levels:
-After the sewer level you goto a NES exclusive level called The Snowfeild and the boss being a bounty hunter polar bear named "Tora".
-After the Rock Quarry level (after beating Lieutenant Granitor) you enter another NES exclusive level called "The Dojo" and fight a samuria called "Shogun".

On top of those, here are some other note-worthy differences:
-Worse (8 bit) graphics.
-The levels were longer -- enemies of the same color would only appear on screen at the same time.
-In Vinnie's Valet Parking Garage, you fight Baxter in his fly form instead of Bebop & Rocksteady at the same time.
-Pizza Hut logos present all over the NES version. Similar to the Pizza Hut appearances in the first movie.

Alright thanks! I think its still worth a purchase for the Live aspect.

My biggest gripe is that 3/4 live games I've been on have lagged so bad, and 2/3 of those ended up crashing out.

But it's still as fun as I remember. Now we just need the Simpsons Arcade.

Here ya go everyone FREE PIZZA and the book picture of tora and shogun =p
