Crackdown - Gen. Discussion & Info
Rodrigo Alvarez at the Sportiz drops it once you kill him. It's called the Watson HE79 "Grenadier" if I remember correctly.
I found it right when I had 3 minutes left on the demo but definately had a ton of fun with it. Its at the Beach if you're facing the Pier keep going right past some big rocks and he'll be hiding in the center area of the rocks that sort of form a cave.

If you go for that first, make sure to get a supply point and then build up your explosive stat to 4. There are ungodly explosions in this game if you can launch a grenade between 5 or 6 cars with maxed stats.
my want for this game has increased ten fold since the demo.

I'm counting the days now.
you and me both :D

i'll be waiting for some 40 dollar deal like different retailers did for RS:V and GOW. you know it will happen and this seems to be the perfect single player time waster i've been waiting for. while RS:V and GOW had pretty good single player, the replay value in single is severely lacking.

That is because most of those games rely more on the multiplayer aspect. They figure that people will get tired of playing the single player campaign so they pay more attention to the multiplayer mode. Gears of War had a great single player mode and I managed to beat it in all difficulties but all of the downloadable content that we've seen so far has been for multiplayer and it will most likely continue to be that way since they have sold so many copies that they probably will save everything else for the sequel. Halo 3 is another likely candidate that is bound to suffer the same fate.

Don't get me wrong, I like multiplayer but I don't like it when they make it the meat of the game. Oblivion is a great game and there is no multiplayer, no co-op, nothing. Just a great single player experience. Dead Rising could be another example. Sad thing is that right now developers probably feel forced to add a multiplayer mode because if not their game might not be considered good enough or it will get lower review scores just because it is missing multiplayer. I just wish that they would make good single player games and stop worrying about multiplayer. Thankfully Crackdown just seems to have co-op and the single player mode is shaping up to what could make this game a surprise hit of the year.

I had a few important questions that might make or break my decision to buy it:

1. Does it have local multiplayer, or is it strictly over Live?
2. Is the highest level for a skill Level 4?

1. you can use lan, but there is no co-op splitscreen.
2. No, that is just for the demo. But in the real game it will take a lot longer to get to 4 stars than it did in the demo.

i don't know if anyone else feels this way, but i think i like playing the crackdown demo so much because it feels like a great platformer especially with the collecting and what not. in GTA it was all about driving, but here it's pretty much just jumping for me.

well looks like crackdown will only ship with 900 achievement points, with the rest to come in a DL content that real world has.

Instead of shipping with the standard 1000 achievement points, Crackdown, Realtime Worlds cop-meets-superhero shooter, will ship with 900 achievement points. Before you freak out, run around your living room and throw things, it's not because Real Time Worlds or Microsoft are out to deprive you of those precious points.

Instead, Microsoft confirmed to 1UP that the remaining achievement points would be made available for free as a download: "The remaining 100 Gamerscore in 'Crackdown' will be made available for free via a future content update. A number of the title's future Achievements will likely be based on some of the amazing feats executed throughout the streets of Pacific City, as well as the exciting additional content that Realtime Worlds currently has up its sleeve." No other details on what Realtime Worlds has in store for downloadable content, but some of you may remember a conversation we had with a producer way back in August

I finally got a chance to play this, but sadly was disappointed. I wasnt really feeling the whole graphical look to it and wasnt all that impressed with the gameplay.

Ill still pick it up one day but no longer feel a need to preorder or get it at launch. i dont want into the halo 3 beta that much, and this game will get to sweet spot as soon as that beta is over i bet.

I LOVE the jumping aspect of it. I have so much fun jumping around everywhere. Definately a fun ass game. I just discovered shooting the gas tanks on the cars.

I was really excited when I did the tire shooting thing on a car coming towards me and it flipped the same way it would in a movie.

probally one of the best things about this game is that u can level up your skills like movement your speed increases and firearms that is so awesome

I love jumping in the middle of a firefight between the cops and crooks and just laying waste to all them. I was hesitant on getting this game when it was first announced but now I find myself playing the demo almost every chance I get. I tried a few co-op games on live and its actually pretty good except for one or two people who think its cool just kicking and shooting at each other.

the shooting mechanics in this game are awesome. i just wish they would include some escort missions or something where you have to shoot out the tires of pursuing vehicles.

Escort missions are the work of the devil.

I really enjoyed the demo, and I got sick of (non superhero) GTA type games during VC. I doubt I'll pay full price for Crackdown, but I may have to pick it up when it hits $20-30. Crackdown has a superhero GTA game feel to it, which I really enjoy.

(thanks to Destructoid)

just in case anyone else asks a Halo 3 Beta question concerning Crackdown

I finally gave the demo a fair chance last night and I have to say it's pretty cool. I'm not sure about aiming in general, crashing into other cars (it seems a bit off) and there were way too many dudes shooting at me all the time but overall I liked it. Jumping around from rooftop to rooftop was pretty fun.

The aiming is decent. Just hold the Left Trigger, Pick a spot on the guy ( Head, Body, Legs, Left Arm, and Right Arm ) Then wait a sec, depending on the weapon you have, for the reticule to go down. Then fire away.

Better then GTA Aiming ;)

i think 40 would be my sweet spot for buying this game and i have a feeling that this would most likely get some weekly ad deal within a few weeks of release.
Check out this awesome video of obtaining some of the interesting achievements in the game.

That's awesome. They got really creative with some of the achievements and went for stuff that would be fun to get instead of just plain old "beat the game on X difficulty" "beat the game on X+1 difficulty" etc.
this had been confirmed a while ago.
Not really. No one was sure if you needed the disc to just download it and then you could play it whenever or if (like it seems it will be) it always has to be in the drive.

got a link?

of course not! you don't need no stinkin link!

Actually its one Bungie.net in one of the updates.

And no, im not doing research on something that doesn't matter.

Preordered my copy, game is gonna be hot.
Does it hurt anyones feelings that I plan to buy this game to play Crackdown and will probably never look at Halo 3?
Same here. My wife is going to bogart the Halo 3 beta anyways. It's a win-win situation, I guess.

I know people were wondering if they needed the Crackdown disc for the Halo 3 beta. It appears this'll be the case, as the only way to launch the downloaded Halo 3 beta will be through the Crackdown menu.

Thanks goes to Kotaku, which if you don't read, you probably should.

yeah, i wonder about renting/borrowing the game from a friend.

can i pop in my friend's crackdown and play the beta?

EDIT: I don't see why I couldn't unless it's somehow tied to the GT.

how about if i rent the game?

I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft was pressing a separate run for major game rental services that omitted the beta. Otherwise, I don't see how it'd be a problem...the problem would be getting your hands on a rental copy of Crackdown between a week before the beta period and a couple days after it.
