Dante's Inferno - Out NOW!

Honestly, in regards to the mashing O and X, it's designed into the game. If I could just walk up to a health or magic stand and kit O or X once and get it, there's be no challenge. Instead, you have to mash the button(s) for a couple of seconds, all the while enemies are approaching and/or attacking you. It adds an element of urgency, which while I would prefer to just hit the button once, makes sense.

couldnt disagree more. you can have the same sense of urgency by having to hold down a button for a certain amount of time ala god of war with magic/health. they borrowed tons of other aspects from this game, why stop at this one?

again, button mashing to do simple stuff is tired and played out. it is not a challenge. its a nuisance.

well explained :) In God of War, i have the same complaint, but then i realized it was done on purpose... Especially the doors to open toward the end of Hades' Challenge. Open the door or get rolled over by the giant ball of fire!

When you play the game for the first time, it does add novelty to the experience. Of course, it eventually dies out... If you have questions like that, then for Wii games, why the hell i have to shake the damn controller to attack, why the hell i have to pull and drag? Can't they just assign a button to it? Ahem, Zelda TP Wii...
Hey syngamer, hollywood video and gamecrazy are also doing the action figure preorder. Just thought I'd let you know.
Thanks, unfortunately neither of those stores are near me...I'll stick with the Amazon order and apply the $10 credit to my FFXIII pre-order :)

Quite unusual for an EA game to have its reviews now. Usually they don't allow them until the day before it ships.

Regardless, I'm buying the game in this case. I'll have it beat within 2-4 weeks and then sell it online to help pay for Heavy Rain, MLB 10: The Show, Final Fantasy XIII and Yakuza 3. I liked the demo and I love God Of War type games. I have no qualms buying an imposter of God Of War 1&2 because God Of War 3 is going to blow all three games out of the water anyway.

Canceled my pre-order. ~75% on average for the reviews isn't bad, but I'm sure this will drop in price quickly enough and since the PS3 version has all the goodies, there's nothing to really lose by waiting.

I was thinking the same thing. But then I got to thinking about the possibility that only the original release will be the Divine Edition. Do you think PS3 versions being sold 6 months down the line will still be the Divine Edition?

I figure there are bound to be (at least) a few copies still around a few months after the game is released. Plus, any copies traded in at GameStop should likely have everything included or at least some will.

Once again, these unimpressive reviews are making me think that I'd be better off renting Dante's Inferno for two weeks at Rogers Video ($20) than paying $80 for it. The EB clerk called me this morning to inform me that both BioShock 2 and Dante's Inferno will be available first thing Tuesday morning. I'll have a decision come Monday night but I think I'd be better off saving $60 and just renting the game for a week or two.

I still have to pay for Heavy Rain, MLB '10, Final Fantasy XIII, Yakuza 3 and God Of War 3 and these 5 and BioShock 2 are games I'm not passing on. I'll take my $30 I had on DI and put it on MLB '10.

All PS3 copies will forever be the Divine Edition, unless they are only doing this until March 16. That's my belief.

I'm looking forward to some CAG reactions to this game. I know the reviews have been less than stellar but I'd like to know what some of you think.

That is..if anyone is even picking this up day 1 anymore :)

Yeah. Curious as well, I did enjoy the demo. Some reviews said it falls apart at the end and the end feels incomplete. Wonder if this is due to rushing to beat GoW III to the market.

I rented this today; the best way to describe it that it plays similar to Devil May Cry & God of War. You use the light and heavy attacks and you also obtain "souls" after defeating enemies which can then be used to purchase new moves. It has areas where you have to clear it of enemies in order for a wall of flames or gate to open so you can progress.

I will admit that I was taken by surprise to see
Pontious Pilate
in there. I'm looking forward to seeing what else is in store. :)

Can't comment on the game itself yet (my new, working hard drive is in transit) but I have to say that the Dante's Inferno figure from GS is pretty neat. I figured it was going to be some 3 inch tall piece of crap (read: Afro Samurai figurine) but if you put this thing in a plastic box bubble with a cardboard backing, it could easily fit with my old action figure collection. It's a decent size and comes with a scythe and what looks like a really long spine.

If anybody would like the figure, I got one I want to trade for the Bioshock 2-pack of Big Sister and Little Sister that is exclusive to TRU

I was supposed to get that figure with mine but hollywood video never got any figures. The game is awesome though if your a fan of DMC or GOW.

I'm liking the game, it's not bad at all. I'm about an hour in, so far i'm enjoying it more than Bayonetta. The demo was the first chapter of the game. The controls are good, graphic is pretty sharp, story is decent.

So...pretty much no discussion for a brand new much hyped game. Does this suck or did everyone cancel their pre-orders?

Went to my area Gamestop and picked up my preorder, got the figure and got to tell you they had a TON of copies on the drawer (real games no the empty boxes on the shelves), and a box or two with figures.

For all I can say most people in the area ditch the preorder for the ToysRUs promotion and the rest just going to wait for an imminent price drops due to the reviews and GOW coming up next month.

Maybe my info is not good enough for you? Or perhaps everyone else is too busy gaming?

It's nothing like the Superbowl ad, but the game itself is not that bad. $40 is definitely a good price for it. Oh, the PS3 comes with the redeemable code, which will unlock new DLC in March, pretty sweet :)

No your info is good. I was just hoping to see a little discussion going on but so far theres no much talk.

Well I've only had the chance to play it for about an hour the first day and an hour yesterday but I really like it. It's true what everyone says, it's a GoW copy but there is nothing wrong with that in my opinion.
No your info is good. I was just hoping to see a little discussion going on but so far theres no much talk.
I wanted to add more, but i don't want to spoil things... The game's mechanic is not much different from the demo. What you're paying is really a ride in hell.

If you think the demonic babies are disturbing, wait till you see them got pumped out of the giant nipple.

I am what I can only assume is half way through the game.

Its not that great, its alright but mostly just a generic hack and slash. I disagree with some of the reviews saying they liked the presentation. They didnt use the Divine Comedy setting right at all.

i like the settings in this game. i think its interesting. combat is a little bland but its a hack and slash. the upgrade system is a little bit like the dead space node system. like i said before, constantly having to press O for tons of stuff gets really old really fast. i cant wait to get the beatrice stones so i can automatically absolve people.

also if you like boobs, theres lots of them in this game. lol

I hate posting in threads about new games, one can never tell what people will consider spoilers...

Just to bring 8bit down, generic spoiler about the functionality of beatrice stones in spoiler tag.
the beatrice stones can only auto absolve the damned souls/shades you meet, not the generic enemies (it's not worth auto absolving though, you get less souls that way). So it's O mashing the whole game through.

I'm at the gluttony stage. I went through most of the game without upgrading because I forgot but now that I've upgraded some moves it seems too easy :cold:

Rented this game, beat it in 2 days with everything there is to do other than collection.

I feel sorry if you bought this game or spent more than 30 or so dollars for it. The game started off well with some nice visuals but the last couple hours are pathetic. At one point you seriously go through the 8 or so rooms all with the same lay out. The Gates of Hell Arena is one of the easiest challenge modes I have done. 50 rounds but each round only took me a Max for 20-30 seconds.

You start out with something like 5 min or so and get a time bonus advancing. By the end of the 50 rounds I had racked up over 11 mins of extra time.

Bottom line, its a very average game, please rent, if you must buy dont spend over 30 bucks for it.

But but but you're missing something from the rentals :)

The purchased copy comes with the DLC code for the Dark Forest. You know the part where he
sew the cross on his chest
. I can't believe i just put that into the spoiler tag,. But hey, you never know, because people want to know how the heck he got the
stupid cloth cross on his chest
. You know, sort of how Kratos got the pale skin (avoiding the word white).

Of course, you can purchase the Dark Forest for $3.99, i believe it comes with two gold trophies. Hey, the Divine Edition comes with that, so what's not to love right? $30 for a ride in hell, i say it's worth the admission price.

So is it true there's a game-ending bug having to do with some sort of lever stopping you from progressing? Apparently a lot of people were complaining that they couldn't finish the game when they were almost finished due to this bug lol. Just curious if anyone ran into this because a friend of mine did and was raging in vent the other night.

Found it, yikes (funny how they can spend millions on a Super Bowl ad spot, but not enough on QA; GG EA):

Yeah, its in there. It sucks ass but be comforted in the fact that the glitch is more toward the beginning of the game not by the end.

That also only happens if you save twice in the same area.

Odd, he was talking about it as if it was towards the end of the game. Maybe there's multiple instances of this bug and saving twice. o_O

Wow, what are the odds?!?! I just saved my game last night at the exact spot the dude was talking about! However, i have a habit of rotating saves, so even if the game glitched on me, i'm still okay...

If i load the save tonight, i'll be at the rotating disks as shown in the video. There's a soul to be absolved/punished, if you go do that and then save, the glitch should happen (according to the video). However, if you're careful, i.e. using rotating saves, your original save should still be good.

This happens to Wii's Twlight Princess as well... But yeah, they should have spend more money on QA than on the Superbowl Ad.

i think i might of just found a bug in my game. i am fighting death in the first 2 to 3 minutes of the game. his life is down to nothing he wont move and i keep hitting him but nothing happens. anyone else hear of this problem????

edit. i have a picture. i think i remember from the demo he is supposed to drop his weapon then you pick it up and kill him with it. its not in his hands, must be stuck to his shirt.

too large, must link. http://imgur.com/D0KzW.jpg

Damn I just saved in that same spot, too! I came over the gf's house so I can't check to see if I'm glitched too.

i was so mad when i still had to mash O hahahaha. my holy path is maxed though, so its easy punishment for the rest of the time.

also, if anyone is missing the virgil commentaries, make sure you dont miss the last one on the ice bridge near the end. he blends in like a mother fucker and i walked right past him.

So it seems like the general consensus of this game is that it's a rental at best?

Such a shame. Their last game Dead Space is probably one of my favorite games of all time. It also doesn't help that they're releasing this game so close to GoW III. I guess I'll spend a couple bucks and rent it.

It's a rental if you have no interest in the Coop shit they're releasing in a couple weeks/months.
It can easily be completed in

Its a rental even if you wanted to play coop. There is nothing here that you havent done a thousand other times in every other game. I am sure the game can not be that much better with 2 people spamming Cross attacks.

They failed horrible integrating the source material, most of the time you feel like you are simply in 1 random cave from any game made in the last decade. Yeah there is a strong effort to make things look disturbing but most of your time is spent staring at Dante's back has he climbs walls.

For being in hell most of the enemies are bland, skeleton looking guy, zombie looking guy etc etc....only 2 or 3 really stand out. You also vs these same people from beginning to end. Jesus..how many 2 legged goat men did I kill in this game? Had to closing in on a thousand.

I dont know....I spent 8 bucks to rent it for a week beat it in 2 sittings (could have finished it in one but went to sleep) and I feel that I spent about 5 bucks too much.

Take that shit off easy mode son. You sound like this guy over at ps3trophies:

If you beat the game on easy with the Holy Path maxed out, then the Gates of Hell will be very very very easy. All you have to do is spam the
circle18x18.png
button over and over.

Doing this, I beat the 50 gates with 12 minutes to spare. Many waves were beaten in less than 1 second
This game is great so far, but I'm worried about the latter half of the game since people seem to be bashing it. :[
the only bad thing about the latter half is circle 8.
seems like they couldnt think of a stage theme for this circle and just had you do 9 arena challenges using the same background.

im playing through my 2nd time for the plat but it isnt nearly as fun the 2nd time around. def a rental but im not sad i bought it since i got a $20 credit from toys r us and can still sell it for $40 anyway.
