This really is the only deal breaker they could have tossed at me. We should all email atlus with our disappointment in a mature manner.
^ i think u mean namco-bandai.
namco is actually 10 min from my house, i wonder if they accept drop ins...
Is the free CE upgrade dead? I'm on amazon on my iPhone and it doesn't say anything about a bonus... :/
No they just removed the old listing. The newer CE listing is there and available to pre-order for the standard price.

Your right, I do! Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I thought it was atlus and was in the middle of emailing them, rofl. Given that I know its namco I doubt anything will be changed.
Looks like we are getting the full guide after all but the bad news its a digital download now

Link: jrpgtribe.com/news/dark-souls-limited-edition-will-now-include-a-full-guide/
Has this been confirmed by anyone else?

Uh, bullshit?

So what's next? No steelbook case? I understand they're giving us extras free of charge, but the Indian-giving is getting old. I'd rather they nail down what they can give us before telling us.

never played demon souls before since i only have a 360. but since this is an RPG, lengthy, and demon souls got A+ reviews. automatic pre-order.

thanks for the info guys

Oops. Couldn't find it through Amazon search. Anyway the newer listing is also up and available same $59.99 price.

Really? Not getting a mini guide (re: Sampler/advertisment for the full guide) is that much a deal breaker for many of you? I don't get that.

If they did this with the art book, I'd be way more frustrated, but at the end of the day, the game is what matters. They could send it to me in a white paper sleeve and I would still preorder it. There aren't many games left like this these days guys and gals. We should continue to support them.

Most games don't come with anything extra at all for this price.

I guess I am not CAG enough to understand this shit. Are you guys seriously complaining about what free stuff you are going to get with your pre-order? I mean fuck me, is this stuff for real? You should be happy you are getting anything free at all!

It's going to be a great game; isn't that enough? And furthermore, how many of you fuckers have bought every COD day one, and/or will be picking up the next "hot" shooter when it drops? You guys make me a little sad I'm a CAG.

Yes for me it is considering what they gave for Demons Souls. And if the "mini guide" was just going to be some bs pamphlet then I would have canceled also.

I want steelbook, full physical game guide, and the rest I dont care about but without those 2 things I'll just wait and buy it on Black Friday or get it used. And it's not about the price. I'd pay more to get that.

If I wanted free digital content there's plenty of ways to get that garbage.

The only thing that is "mini" about the guide is the size not the content. The size of the guide for DS was the size of a PS3 case but it was still a guide for the whole game. It was still 80 pages packed full of useful tips and tricks.

I think that's beside the point here. The concept that anyone would cancel a pre-order based on not getting enough free stuff, is fucking stupid.

I mean if you were on the fence about the game in the first place, then that is one thing; should a couple of little books been enough to sway you in the first place?

This thread is just full of bullshit whining and unfounded complaints. Buy the game, or don't. Nobody is really going to give a fuck.

I'm a Demon's Souls fanboy if there is such a thing... They could send it through a garbage disposal and I'd still pay full MSRP as long as it worked. Getting any sort of guide that probably took a while to make is a deal in itself as it helped me with the first game quite a bit.

Just to be clear, the only source so far for the digital guide is the UK-based Shopto.net. Not saying the US release will be any different, but lets not jump off a bridge just yet.

Plus, they took it back from Atlus. So anything they do that would have been less than Atlus had they been allowed to keep publishing, is a major strike against them.

The point is it was going to be a physical guide and (as long as it was a full guide) that would have value to me. A digital guide is worthless to me, making me no longer want the game day one for full price. We'll both just have to get over it.

um, I think it's more people are angry they pre-ordered the game because it comes with x and y, but now it seems y is being taken out of the package... clearly, most everyone WANTS the game (hence the talk of canceling and waiting until the price drops), and this being CAG most prob. would NOT have pre-ordered the game at full price if the BANG for their buck ('free stuff') was not there.

of course if you list something at a certain price and what it comes with changes (as in stuff is being subtracted from the org. package...) over the course of time before it is released... that's a sure fire way to piss off a huge chunk of your potential buyers.
Amazon finally fixed the release date for the regular collectors edition to Oct 4th release. No RDD yet though.
Perhaps because the "regular" release is being upgraded to collectors? Why offer two listings of the same package? Obviously the collectors may change price post release but why list it now? They most likely will consolidate the listings when shipping for RDD. It puzzles me to accept pre-orders on both especially since they had a goldbox offer for DS @ 57.99 previously.

Game comes out in October. Plenty of time to cancel preorders, no? Also promotions are not known this far in advance for most titles. So, give it some time to see if the reduced content is conducive to better sales to increase sales. As of right now I have it @ 57.99 on Amazon with RDD and I'm not going to keep it if that doesn't change.

EDIT: You have tracked the Amazon Price for Dark Souls...Now I find out if it's not in stock if that still triggers..

I don't care about a guide, I wouldn't even want one for this game. Guides spoil the experience of a game like this. As for waiting for a price drop, that requires waiting even longer to play this, and I can barely wait as it is!

I don't recall whether this was confirmed to be true or not, but weren't the making of and soundtrack supposed to be digital downloads for the NA release? If they do make the guide a digital download as well then I'm certainly cancelling my pre-order.

Yes the soundtrack and making of were always going to be download only for the US version. I think elsewhere may be getting the physical copies but don't remember really right now.

I wouldn't cancel any preorders just yet though. I would agree that would be stupid at this point. There's no official confirmation on much right now.

I forgot I have one on order for $55 at Amazon so that one I'll probably end up keeping regardless as long as they don't change it to a digital steelbook as well.
This really is the only deal breaker they could have tossed at me. We should all email atlus with our disappointment in a mature manner.
And Atlus will respond in a mature manner "Not our problem."
Yes the soundtrack and making of were always going to be download only for the US version. I think elsewhere may be getting the physical copies but don't remember really right now.
The same source for the Euro digital guide still has them getting a CD soundtrack and "behind the scenes" DVD.
as long as they don't change it to a digital steelbook as well.
"We've included a bonus picture of what the steelbook would have looked like!" :D

All the pictures I have seen of the digital guide are all PAL copies. EU are getting phyical discs of the soundtrack and behind-the-scenes, but not getting steelbook and looks like a digital copy of the guide.

So far, NA are getting the guidebook, but digital soundtrack and behind-the-scenes. Nothing has came out saying NA is getting the digital guide.
Although this is sort of disheartening the Demon's Souls guide from the deluxe edition was excellent. To me the guide didn't have any "fluff" like some guides seem to have.
The other thing I liked is that nothing was kept secret in the guide. It told you where all the best places to farm souls/stones/etc were as well as how to do a "perfect run through" from start to finish without missing any content.

If the Dark Souls guide follows the DS's guide in style/content I'd gladly fork over MSRP for the package.

I for one am still keeping my preorder cause digital guide > no guide.
Except that one was done by Atlus and this one is being released by Namco Bandai.

Also that link mentions a physical CD for the soundtrack, which was not the case for the US release only in the UK so it could be different.

And the point is, the main reason I am preordering instead of waiting for a price drop is the collector's edition benefits. If the CE benefits slowly become stripped away to not being worthy of paying full price over waiting a couple of months, then I'll cancel my preorder. I could give a hoot about a steelbook and the last tangible piece coming with the game would be the artbook if this news is true.

Preparetodie.com still pictures the physical artbook and physical, novel-sized game guide on the CE page for that it is worth.

I wouldn't get too CSI analyzing the pictures. The NA picture is the same as the EU picture on their web site, just with the CD and DVD removed.

Yeah, that's the spirit!

I hated the first game and I'm still pre-ordering the CE regardless of what crap they put in.

People are so fickle, damn. Doesn't cost you a penny more and still manage to complain. You call yourself a fan?

Another reason I loved the DS's CE is because after I finished the game the first time I was able to resell it on Amazon for almost 3x what I paid for it. I highly doubt there would be the resale value on Dark Souls as now it would be on a lot more peoples radar than DS.

Since they've announced pre-orders, they've taken back the physical soundtrack and now the guide. Try facts next time instead of speculation.

hmm, so maybe no guide... if that's the case i may just wait til the price drops, or do a redbox day rentals and check it out/get it out of my system

Still keeping my reservation, and still anticipating this game. Atleast its not like most other CE's where you have to fork out an extra 20-40$ for some cruddy extra's.

I personally love companies that do CE's of this sort (Namely NIS, since they always give out Art Books and Soundtracks lately)

I'm keeping my preorder in as well, I would have ordered it had it been the game and nothing else so whatever bonus we do end up getting is all the better for me either way :p

If they take away the metal case i'm cancelling. While I did love Demon Souls, I really couldn't see myself purchasing it for a limited edition folded box.

Just keep in mind that this is cheapassgamer.com There are tons of people complaining about the perceived lack of value of just about everything. I think if the DS preorder came with the game, guide, and a box with $1000 in it, people would still complain.
the CE listing came up on my Gold Box..
56.99 but no RDD :/
Hm. Hm.

Time to see if I can get it...

I can really only afford a brand new game once in a blue moon... so I am going back and forth between Dark Souls and Skyrim...

Probably going to jump on Dark Souls though, wait for the GOTY uber-Skyrim edition that is bound to come out
FINALLY showed up in my gold box.
I should probably play one of my two copies of Demon's Souls now, huh?
Same happened for me so i switched my pre-order over.

Apparently the page for the regular dark souls is not available anymore. Its just for the CE. I'm only saying that because the regular edition appeared in the suggestions box, but I can't open it

My pre-order for the regular edition was also changed to the collector's edition. And as you pointed out, the placeholder/page for the "standard" edition no longer exists.

Btw steel box or no, I'm still preordering. Look at the extra goodies! And besides its not like the game will be a disappointment.

*spits everywhere* phew phew phew *knock on wood*

I noticed on my Amazon pre-order it list the item as the collector's edition even though I preordered before the CE was listed.

My order was changed as well, but it only says Dark Souls! Clicking the link takes me to the CE page, though. BTW, the old product page is still there.

finally showed up in my gold box/quick picks today for 56.99. amz couldnt price adjust my preorder for 59.99 which includes free release date shipping so cs gave me $3 promo to manually apply to my preorder via the change payment option. in conclusion, i got dark souls ce for 56.99 w/ free release date shipping. pretty sweet.
