Best Buy Upgrade & Save - Now With 100% More Wikification!!

How does it work?
Trade in ANY DVD (except for porn, you weirdos) and get a $5 off coupon towards any Blu-Ray priced $9.99 or above.
Yes, ANY DVD - this includes things you bought at the Dollar Store, individual discs from compilations or TV shows, and ex-rentals from Blockbuster (RIP).
Cases and artwork aren't required, but it definitely increases the acceptance rate if you're bringing in disc four of Sanford & Son's third season.

Wait, that's it? There has to be more to it, right?
Well, not really. It's pretty simple.
Step 1. Trade in DVD's for $5 off coupons.
Step 2. ???
Step 3. Profit!

The usual FAQ/tips/etc.
Coupons are 1:1 - for each DVD traded, one coupon is given.
Coupons don't have to be used at time of trade in.
Coupons do not stack with each other. No combining U&S coupons for $40 off of the Star Wars box set.
Coupons MAY stack with price matches, manufacturer coupons, and current Best Buy promos. YMMV, ya know?
Discounts are taken from the selling price of the Blu-Ray $9.99 or higher. $9.99 becomes $4.99, $12.99 becomes $7.99, and so on. $4.99 Blu-Rays are still $4.99 though.
Coupons are B&M only - must be redeemed in-store.

Since this is a wiki post now, feel free to add in suggested titles (I prefer those $9.99 gems or sale items that become $4.99 after coupon, but to each their own) down below.

For a pretty comprehensive list, go here -> WV Matsui to the rescue! You should all give him a dollar.

Have you considered joining the Disney Movie Club? Some pretty good deals there and they have the titles you mentioned except Hulk.

Still working through the 40 one cent DVDs I got from Dollar Tree a while back :) I should have cleaned them out that day. I left more than I bought...

Wreck-It Ralph is gonna be in Avengers 2?!?!?!?!

We need Gargoyles and Darkwing Duck before Thor and Iron Man.

Got 5 set aside to take in. One that I upgraded last trip last time, and 4 more I want to upgrade eventually.

That will be likely all I do this go around as I'm pretty much done upgrading things/ditching DVDs I don't want anymore as I said earlier.

Only thing I can think of is maybe the 4 Diehard movies. But those don't seem worth upgrading since I haven't watched them in ages and the transfers on the first couple aren't well reviewed--and the 4th lacks the unrated cut. Maybe if they put out a remastered boxed set or something when the latest one hits Blu I guess.

Any info on what $10 Blus will be available?

Any chance they will put Dark Knight Rises steelbook on sale? I picked up the first two Batman steelbooks at a previous U&S for $5 apiece, but I've been unwilling to spend $20+ to finish out the set.

DKR may be on sale, but I doubt it will be $10. The other steels just had the Blu-ray, old ones at that. DKR is still new and the steelbook is a combo pack.

So ready for this.

Already preparing some stuff online to buy they don't carry in-store so I can use my coupons on those when the deal starts. ^__^
I was going through my DVDs to find ones to convert through Flixster's disc to digital (you get 5 free per account, and you can have more than one account, and then merge them via ultraviolet), and I noticed many of them were scratched or even worse some of the ones from the late 90s the inner hole is starting to crack(My poor Totoro) so I will have more than I thought to trade in.
How do you do the disc to digital thing. I'm intrigued.

o_O I thought the coupons couldn't be used online?

Disclaimer: Everyone's local Best Buy may vary in endcaps, stations, and shelves, but the titles listed are what I found in my local BBY store as of 4/8/13. All titles and prices listed are coming directly from the labels placed on each shelf with an expiration date. Therefore, not all blu-rays with stickers will be listed on this post. For example, titles such as Casino, Animal House, The Breakfast Club, etc. that were $9.99 last U&S won't be presented here unless otherwise "labeled" with an end date. Also, newer releases such as Zero Dark Thirty, Life of Pi, Les Miserables, etc. are not on these lists because of the previously mentioned reason. FWIW, none of the SaveStation titles are listed b/c they were listed all at $9.99 up until 5/4/13, I believe. If I got any prices or dates wrong, or if anyone else would be generous enough to contribute with new info in the following weeks, everyone on this thread would be appreciative. Thanks, and enjoy!

Guys,

Walmart have those old DVD without amaray box or cover but still in sealed plastic box for sale at 50c~99c.

Looks like only TV stuff for me. Will probably pick up Smallville, 24, and South Park S15. Been meaning to watch the former 2 and missed the latter.
DKR may be on sale, but I doubt it will be $10. The other steels just had the Blu-ray, old ones at that. DKR is still new and the steelbook is a combo pack.
The steelbooks I got also included Ultraviolet codes, so they weren't like first-run units. (The original runs of those movies came with iTunes Digital Copies, I believe. Unfortunately the tech support would not let me exchange the UV codes for matching iTunes codes like they used to allow.)
o_O I thought the coupons couldn't be used online?
You buy the movies online at bestbuy.com at the full price then return them to a Best Buy location. Then buy them back right away using the coupons.

Ship to store?

Anyone know if they price match and allow use of coupon? Probably ymmv.

Too bad there are no Phish or Grateful Dead concerts on bluray yet. I want to see the ginger and the fat man in 1080p.

What does it say about me that the only stuff on the list above (thanks Matsui) that I either don't have or like the price on is the triple-pack of Deep Blue Sea/The Long Kiss Goodnight/Snakes on a Plane? :)

During the last upgrade and save I price matched amazon.com, used a Upgrade & Save coupon, a manufacturer coupon, and a reward zone certificate. This is a ymmv. You are allowed to use a upgrade & save coupon, manufacturer coupon, and a reward zone certificate without any problems.

But, Don't you need a case with art for it to be considered for U&S? Dollar Tree sells new (either low budget or terrible) movies for $1 that come in a case with art (cheap blu-ray cases if you happen to get a busted / bbv case

also if a 3d blu-ray is $20 will the normal blu-ray be 15 or less?

I want to pick up Django Unchained, but I'm not sure if it will be cheaper to get it release week or the week after when this promo kicks in. I get the sense that new releases go up in price by about $5 the week after release, so I will probably just be better off getting it right away.

Just realized this deal doesn't start til 4/21. Lame. Just got a 3d tv last night, was going to run out and get Avatar, Prometheus, Hugo, Clash/Wrath of the Titans...all 3D. Was going to cost $60 + tax after $25 off.

Really hope Avatar and Prometheus don't go up in price if I wait.

If you ave not already seen clash of the titans, I personally would suggest you pass on it. I felt the trailers grossly misrepresented the movie. (just my personal opinion) If you enjoyed the movie, by all means purchase it.

I realize Clash and Wrath are crappy movies. Just want some 3D blurays. I watched Conan last night. It's pretty bad too, and better in 2D since the picture quality is very crisp and the 3D was post production. But I'm a 3D noob.

I enjoy having a collection of movies and I've always wanted to go nuts during one of these upgrade and save things - but I usually wait for the movies i want to drop to nine or twelve bucks anyway.

Long story short - the sale just makes things my normal price. Makes it hard to see the value and urgency in it. I have piles of DVDs to trade but not a lot of disposable income. I feel like I'm missing something here and it's probably the disposable income. Haha

Still, I'm gonna grab ten or so DVDs this time and try this. Maybe I'll get excited when I have my hands full of Blu Rays...

If you can use find and use the coupons on the steelbooks coming out on May 7th then it would be really worth.

If that list is the only noteworthy deals then I'm.not too thrilled this time around.

Was hoping to see some Spielberg movies on there. No Jaws, ET, or Jurassic Park. :/

Only $9.99 title I really want is Jackie Brown.

May bite on Petes Dragon and The Great Mouse Detective but not sure yet. And the tv deals I already own most or they are still too high. Contemplating Weeds Season 8 and The League Season 3.

So at most I'll probably only get 5 titles. I'm hoping there's some unannounced stuff.

What steelbooks are those?

The U&S-specific deals are always either on older titles or ones that need a pickup in sales. You're not going to find big titles or recent releases further on sale.

Can we order blu-rays not available in store and when the upgrade and save start we can just take the blu rays back to Best Buy for a return/rebuy?

I preordered my copy yesterday and will probably wait til 4/21 to grab it to use the u&s coupon. Gotta get that steel book.

Yeah, I just pre-ordered Django from Amazon for that same reason--figure it would be a wash when price jumps up second week.

Not seeing much I want on the $9.99-14.99 list this time. Have 5 to go--4 of which I already upgraded to Blu versions of. May just got with some newer releases as I definitely don't want to grab anything just because it's cheap as I already have too many movies I really don't need to own that I picked up for $5-10 over the years.

From the previous sales, I've seen a few people who were successful doing that, so I put in an order yesterday for a bunch of $9.99 titles with the intention of trying it. Since there is a 14 day return policy (not sure if that's from the ORDER date, the SHIPPING date, or the estimated RECEIVED date), even if the store won't allow me to return & rebuy, I still have the option to just return them to the store.
