Best Buy Upgrade & Save - Now With 100% More Wikification!!

How does it work?
Trade in ANY DVD (except for porn, you weirdos) and get a $5 off coupon towards any Blu-Ray priced $9.99 or above.
Yes, ANY DVD - this includes things you bought at the Dollar Store, individual discs from compilations or TV shows, and ex-rentals from Blockbuster (RIP).
Cases and artwork aren't required, but it definitely increases the acceptance rate if you're bringing in disc four of Sanford & Son's third season.

Wait, that's it? There has to be more to it, right?
Well, not really. It's pretty simple.
Step 1. Trade in DVD's for $5 off coupons.
Step 2. ???
Step 3. Profit!

The usual FAQ/tips/etc.
Coupons are 1:1 - for each DVD traded, one coupon is given.
Coupons don't have to be used at time of trade in.
Coupons do not stack with each other. No combining U&S coupons for $40 off of the Star Wars box set.
Coupons MAY stack with price matches, manufacturer coupons, and current Best Buy promos. YMMV, ya know?
Discounts are taken from the selling price of the Blu-Ray $9.99 or higher. $9.99 becomes $4.99, $12.99 becomes $7.99, and so on. $4.99 Blu-Rays are still $4.99 though.
Coupons are B&M only - must be redeemed in-store.

Since this is a wiki post now, feel free to add in suggested titles (I prefer those $9.99 gems or sale items that become $4.99 after coupon, but to each their own) down below.

For a pretty comprehensive list, go here -> WV Matsui to the rescue! You should all give him a dollar.

Slashed UPCs (YMMV?) Picked up a few movies from biglots that had slashed UPCs, a few of them were really poor, would like to be able to do this.

It varies from store to store and from employee to employee, but most people seem to be to turn in almost anything as long as its not a burned DVD and has a cover art. I don't think the art and disc has to match.

And not porn.
From the previous sales, I've seen a few people who were successful doing that, so I put in an order yesterday for a bunch of $9.99 titles with the intention of trying it. Since there is a 14 day return policy (not sure if that's from the ORDER date, the SHIPPING date, or the estimated RECEIVED date), even if the store won't allow me to return & rebuy, I still have the option to just return them to the store.
It's actually 15 days, and it starts from the day you received the item. I had them clarify this for me a couple weeks back in anticipation for the U&S.

Awesome, I'm glad you confirmed this. I just placed an online order for three $9.99 Blu-rays that aren't available in-store. I love Upgrade & Save :)

And Borat it seems, since it's made to "look" like a burned copy. And because Best Buy is full of idiots.

It is pretty easy... All you have to do is find the person and give them your phone number (I think some other info for some carriers, but I know for Sprint it is just the #) for them to punch it in and see if you are eligible for an upgrade. It takes maybe 5 minutes tops.

It is always a nice alternative if you are like me and never find the dirt cheap movies at dollar stores/Big Lots/etc. and have a shrinking selection of DVDs to trade in.

Gonna stock up on some 3D movies next week, looks like Resident Evil Retribution 3D is going to be $15 after coupon, and I might get Silent Hill Revelations, but I only saw like half of it so I don't think I will. Really tempted by Prometheus 3D being the same price, but I already have the Blu Ray combo pack lol

This what I did last time instead of trading any DVD's in. One time an employee gave me 6 coupons for checking one phone number so I gave 3 of them to a customer that was looking at movies. You will need to have some patients will waiting for them helping other customers setting up their phone.

Why is it that the weekly ads aren't posted in this forum anymore? I was hoping to see if any good blu-rays will be on sale that I can combine with the U&S this go-round.
There's already a list of prices linked in the first post for the next few weeks.
Thanks, but I'm mainly talking about newer blu-rays that might be on sale one week at a time (e.g., Skyfall). There used to be ads posted a few days early like in the VG Deals forum, but I guess people lost interest...?

Do you know what they're checking, what information they take, and who they give your information to?

Planet Earth Special Edition for 22, Life for 15, Executive Decision/Swordfish/Point Break for 7, Sling Blade/Monsters Ball for 7, and Gandhi for 5 will be my first haul tomorrow morning( actually, today)
Do you know what they're checking, what information they take, and who they give your information to?
I'll answer these again, but the first two questions were answered right in my post you quoted...

They are checking with the service provider to see if you're eligible for a phone upgrade.

Depends on the service provider, all providers require the cell #. Sprint only requires that.

I don't know if it is given to anyone. I think just put into the system to check, although I think one of the times they did ask me if I wanted them to send me a text when I was eligible.

Really wish The Departed, Se7en, and The Town were the steelbooks. I guess I'll have to see what's pictured in the ad.

Went alright for me. The first BB kinda freaked - they didn't know the promo was on and told me a horror story about last time upgrade and save ran. Somerhing about a blockbuster nearby that was closing. I was only trading five so their terror quickly subsided. They made me do everything at customer service which meant a lot of waiting.

I was denied Paul for some reason. Might have been the Fandango promo attached to it. I pretty much loathe Seth Rogen but I love Nick Frost and Simon Pegg so no biggie, I'll pick it up someday.

Got everything but Inglorious Bastards which I really wanted so I headed to another BB.

The second BB sent me to customer service and actually looked over the discs. This BB let me check out up front which worked much better.

Tried to stick with $9.99 movies but splurged a bit.

LA Confidential
There Will Be Blood
Star Trek 2009
Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Inglorious Bastards
Attack the Block

Trek and Attack the Block were third string fillers. Everything else I want is still twenty bucks or more. I'm more of a $10 Blu Ray guy.

A lot of the members if not most see them at another forum where they are pretty much taken from and posted here. It always seemed like members here were not really interested in them by the time they were posted here.
Dirty Bastards! Children of Men is still at 7.99 instead of the regular price of 12.99. I wanted to see Oblivion.
If it would make you feel better you could pay the $8 ($13-5) and throw the DVD in the trash.

I only picked up 3 things today.
Airplane -$5
Lawrence of Arabia -$5
Patton/The Longest Day/The Sand Pebbles/Tora!Tora!Tora! -$15

I put back The Prophecy Collection once I saw it was made by Echo Bridge. Their stuff's not even worth $1/film.

I got 10 things (they let me do 2 transactions). They actually had quite a few things they didn't have recently that I thought was only available online.

Have you watched Attack the Block yet, or were you interested but not necessarily in the market for it? It's definitely high up on my list. Great film.

Oh, and just a heads up, the copy of The Thing I picked up was $12.99, although it was in the area with the $9.99 shelf tag. I didn't want to cause a stir, as the girl gave me my coupons back, but the sku for the copy I picked up was: 8822096

I was surprised that my BB had several movies that according to the website said "not available in stores" as well. They only had The Sandlot on DVD, but I was able to grab, Warrior, Miracle, and Coyote Ugly for about $16 total. I was also going to pick up the Walk The Line/Crazy Heart combo...but after waiting in line 15 minutes for the cell phone upgrade check, the girl told me "we haven't done that promotion in months". I tried mentioning that I heard it started back today, and she just asked her co-worker next to her who repeated the same thing. Has anyone actually confirmed that that is going on again? I saw the post in this thread, but I tried looking on Bestbuy.com and haven't found anything for it.

This was my haul from today (prices before discount):

The Amazing Spider-Man 3D $19.99
Avatar 3D $19.99
Coraline 3D $19.99
Hotel Transylvania 3D $19.99
Hugo 3D $14.99
I, Robot 3D $19.99
Prometheus 3D $19.99
Under the Seas 3D $14.99

Need to track down Dredd 3D and Abe Lincoln Vampire Killer 3D. Will probably get The Lorax 3D and Despicable Me 3D too. All should be $19.99.

I need to get 2-3 more DVDs at least. Any stores have $0.50 DVDs?

Grab an ad and shove it in their faces.

Best Buy I went to was out of The Green Hornet (non 3d) and The Sitter, they did have all three lord of the rings but so do all the others so I'll pcik those up when i find 2 other movies.

I did however pick up the hardcover FFXIII-2 guide for $4.99

Please forgive me if this has been asked before- Do you have to use the coupons the same day you get them, and if not, how long until they do expire?

I had a great easy transaction today. traded in 5 old dvds and got all 5 Resident Evil movies for $50. I'd like to trade more dvds in during the week, but wont have money to buy more blu rays until Friday.

Thanks.

Looper-13
tmnt-5
tmnt 2-5
limitless-5
attack the block-5
All for $35! also ordred the jurassic park trilogy from amazon uk for $18! good blu ray day for me. Might go back for jaws and the hobbit later in the week.

Nope, you can hoard coupons as long as you want as long as you use them by May 11th.

So. You were AT the store and didn't ask? Best Buys can be so random, even with some store policies. You'd be better off asking that specific store. I thought I read contradicting answers toward that question a while ago.

Thank you for the info.

Yeah, this promo has gotten a bit inconsistent. They don't even do the coupons anymore (or at least the little cards like they used to). All I got was a printed receipt, indicating that I had traded in 3 DVDs. The guy at the customer service desk also told me to remind the cashiers to just use the SKU# in case they had forgotten how to do the promo.

They had the coupons at the store I went to today, but the last two times they didn't have them. Inconsistent is the perfect word for U&S.

Daaaaamn...that's exactly what I wanted. Amazing deal with the MFC to boot. My store only had the old version of the DVD. I really hate how they organize by genre now though. Did you find that in the "family" section?
