how is this different from you guys pulling your Target Rain Check scams ... lol

I didn't steal anything...WM return policy took it back ... they have product to sell and in return gave me different product.....

no different from your scams.....can I hear a pot / kettle / black reference
If anyone else in Tal. Want Donkey Konga, the only one left I think is that open one.
Saves me a trip then. Glad to hear you got the good one. If I'm lucky, they'll restock.

Went to Porter Ranch Toys R Us in the San Fernando Valley this morning.

I picked up what seemed to be the last copy of Paper Mario. I had just seen 5 copies in the store late last night which probably means that 4 copies had been sold in the first half hour the store was open this morning!

I was also told that there should be no problem exchanging a game I bought today for San Andreas on Thursday. I'm not sure yet whether to return Pikmin 2 or Def Jam: Fight for NY or just keep'em both in case Fry's has a good deal on GTA.
hey now that I think about it, would I be able to exchange an online purchase in-store? Or could I exchange one of them online? (Though I'd much rather in-store)
From my history in past TRU sales, I have not been able to return games in store that I bought online. But the policy may have changed since I tried.

Funny thing is, I didn't even get one PS2 game like I thought I was. They just didn't have any games I wanted. I wanted SF Anniversary Collection, Megaman AC, and much more...
I noticed that there were several games in the glass cases for which there was no display case on the floor. Look carefully in the glass case behind the register if it is a recent game. SF was in the case, but a display box was not on the shelf in the store near me.
Thanks but the TRU in Tallahassee uses the ticket system.
I went out to my local TRU this morning. I was kinda apprehensive, considering they don't have a great video game selection (a lot of things are usually OOS) However, I was able to find and pick up

Paper Mario 2
Donkey Konga
X-Men Legends (GC)

I was hoping to pick up Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, but they did have a placeholder for it. I ended up going with X-Men Legends and I have to say, I'm really enjoying it. I've probably played it the most of the three so far. I'll probably head back later in the week to see if I can find anything else. I figure this'll do it for the most part, but you never know.
I also picked up X-Men Legends (for Xbox) and I'm loving it also. It's so much better than Champions of Norath and the X-Men characters make the experience even better. I was able to pick up Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, I have high hopes for this one. I hope it's great.
this sale is really overrated IMO..you get a few games for 33 bucks a piece..if you wait a couple weeks they'll drop to that price anyway

no reason that games should be sold out
Yeah, but we can play these game now :D instead of waiting two months for the price to drop after christmas
Anyone know whether the 2-packs of Gamecube games (one has Sonic DX and Mega Collection, while the other has both Monkey Balls) will count as 1 or 2 games if they work in this deal at all?

Oh, and I ordered Puyo Puyo, Ribbit King, and Bomberman Jetters online today--3 bugdet games that I didn't want to pay fully for :)
The 2 pack Gamecube games do count as one. Someone on this thread was able to do this.
Went to the store and picked up 6 games...
NeoDeity, I think That's a great avatar.

What do you think Lil' John?

Just as I suspected it was not bedlam at my TRU (although it was crowded, but it seemed they were mostly casual gamers) and even though I waited until 2pm they were still very well stocked. They were low on Paper Mario 2 and Xmen Legends for PS2 but they had plenty of Donkey Konga, Pikmin 2, and SMT:N.

The only thing I was disappointed with was their lack of selection for $20 games. I was hoping to pick up MAT 2, Final Fanasy X and Tak and the Power of JuJu for Ps2. They had tons of Tak for Gamecube so I picked up one of those but they didn't have either of the other two. I might check another store and pick them up with Outlaw Golf 2 later this week.

This was at the Orland Park, IL store.

I love the rationalization.
If you feel you are doing nothing wrong, make sure to tell Wal-Mart that you got the game for free at TRU and you want them to give you another game for it.
If there is nothing wrong, they would be perfectly fine with it.
Go ahead and steal, I'm not saying I never have done something similar, just don't brag about it and think there is nothing wrong.

Picked up:

Burnout3 (2 copies, one for a Christmas present)
X-men legends (GC)

Trying to decide if I should keep X-Men or return it later this week for DOA Ultimate (my brother-in-law wants it for Christmas).

Another option is to go back and get DOA for him, and pick up Sims and Mario Golf for myself.

Any opinions on those two, or X-men?

Game Rankings is a great site for that info. X-Men? Surprisingly good considering I thought the franchise was going nowhere since Capcom's license expired. Recommended for Baldur's Gate/D&D Heroes fans and of course X-men fans. Hard too!

As for Walmart's return policy and Target's rain check policy, I frown upon taking advantage of either. The rain check is intended for the same game too people. If you told them you got a rain check so you could get another game cheaper while you were checking out, they'd be pissy just like the Walmart guys too. I frown upon both.......with the finger.

Whenever I go to TRU (especially for this deal), it always sold it out with their GH, PH and PC's titles. All the time. Even the crappy games no one plays.

I was going to get Zelda:Wind Waker, Jak 2 and Viewtiful Joe but I know damn well they won't have any of those games.

YMMV

At the Olympia WA TRU there was a huge sign that said "best price garentee".

I asked the manager and he said they will price match competitors coupons on in stock items.

They didn't have OG2 at either of the stores I visited, nor did they have any idea what I was talking about. I went and GGCed it.

Got Donkey Konga, Paper Mario 2, and Symphonia (which I'll try to trade for Metroid later).

Sorry if my post was confusing, but I don't think it will work for Halo 2 or DOA: Ultimate. I might have to run by TRU and pre-order Bard's Tale and Fatal Frame II, since they're supposed to be out this week. For the 3rd game, good question.
Should work if they're out this week.
Went to TRU today (closest one to me) and they said I couldn't do the pre-order, which cheesed me off a bit.

They did say that both should be in stock by end of the sale, so when they do show up, I'm going to make them hold onto those two titles for me to pick up, since they wouldn't let me pre-order them.

Well that's a bunch of bullshit. They let me, I don't know why they wouldn't let you. I guess you're right though, having them hold the games in the next best thing.

Let's see how you're comparing these two situations.

In what you did, you bought three items at one store and returned them to another completely different chain of stores, without a receipt, having not bought them at that store chain. Last time I checked, that was fraud, and two counts of it, since you did it twice.

In the case of the Target raincheck, they choose to put text on the raincheck that allows, legally by their rules, the use of it as a substitution on another piece of product. Same store, money goes into the store, no false or fraud returns happen to another store.

There's no pot calling the kettle black, it's the fact you're being a jackass and breaking the law. WalMart isn't guilty for letting it happen, they're guillible. You're the one who's breaking the law in doing a false return.
Well that's a bunch of bullshit. They let me, I don't know why they wouldn't let you. I guess you're right though, having them hold the games in the next best thing.
I agree it's BS, no question there. They checked with their RZone manager who said they couldn't do it, if I put down $5 or if I put down the full amount, since they didn't have the item in stock. I may call another one semi-near to work and see what they'd do, though I know I'm going to be calling them daily from Tuesday on and see if they have it.

I tried to do it on the website and website wouldn't let me do it, which was further annoying. I can understand not doing pre-orders on games that aren't out this week, though they did give some interesting information about the "buy now, return later" scenario:

* If the game to be returned it the $0 game and you're trying to do the swapout, then they will have to rering the whole thing. They may have to change the price on all three games down to 1/3 off each title manually, since the B2G1 programming isn't in the register anymore.
* It's legal in the letter of the law to do the "buy now, return for game I really want" later under the B2G1 scenario, but they sure as hell won't like it, and like to deal with "fixing" it.

It may be YMMV on how the store handles it, though as I'm buying what's around now and not looking to do the swap for something later, it doesn't matter to me. Just trying to add in my $0.02 for others out there who will.

Picked up Paper Mario, Donkey Konga, and Pikmin 2. The were some definite discrepancies with B&M prices and website prices. For example, Mario Golf was $19.99 whereas the website has it at $29.99. I was also unimpressed with their piss poor selection of $19.99 games. Only Viewtiful Joe and M Golf were worth buying. Zelda Wind Walker had a pricetag of $19.99, but guess what, they did not have any (and I went at 10am). X-Men Legends was not in stock - I think I would have picked that up instead of Pikmin 2. Whaddya think? Should I hold on to Pikmin 2 and trade for Legends later in the week (assuming that they get stock and they let me trade)?
Does TRU carry PC games? There's a few PC games I'd like to pick up.
The deal is not for PC games. I did see a 50% green tag on Mafia, making the final price $15.

I believe they do, but they're not included in the sale.
x-men legends will probably see a price drop a lot sooner than Pikmin 2
That didn't even cross my mind. Thanks for the insight!

My find for today:

Galleon (XB) @ $29.95
The Sims Bustin' Out (XB)
Castlevania: LOI (PS2)
Ratchet & Clank: GC (PS2)
Jak & Daxter (PS2)
Jak & Daxter II (PS2)

$96 & change for all six. Working on growing out the PS2 collection without the PS2.

At the first store I went to I was bummed that they didn't have X-Men Legends for Xbox. The Manager there said just to buy the PS2 version of it and not open it and call back during the 45 day period and they would exchange it for the Xbox version. This may be YMMV, but the manager was encouraging me to do it so that I would buy 2 games. I ended up not doing and found X-Men Legends Xbox at another TRU near me. As long as it's not the Free game ($0) you probably won't have a problem exchanging it when the game you want gets in. As for Gift receipts, I think if you get gift receipts, all games you purchase ring up as $33 (if you were buying all $50 games). I cant confirm this, I'm just going by the OP from the first thread about this.

Might be worth getting a gift receipt just for that reason if you're planning to do the swap for something later.

You can get Mafia at Target for $10 in the jewel case.

This topic brings out lots of new posters. Welcome all! Leave me some games at my local TRU.

Just a quick tip(didn't see this posted). This wasn't fixed earlier but there is a green tag problem with the system. If you buy 2 green tag games and 1 regular game, you could make out good. For example, if you buy 2 green tag games that are $20 each and then a regular $20 game, the register should mark the green tag games down to $10, $0, and then charge $20 for the $20 game, so you get a total of $30 for 3 games. But what the register does is this, it sees 3 $20 games then takes off the regular $20 game and then marks the 2 green tag games down to $10 and $10 so you pay only $20 for 3 games. Just make sure the green tag games are rung up first then the regular game is rung up last(if the regular game is rung up first it will give you the green tag game for free).

Scenario one
ring up in this order
PS2 regular price Jak 2 $20
PS2 green tag Spy Hunter $20
PS2 green tag Baldurs Gate $20

scenario one will ring up as this after total
PS2 regular price Jak 2 $20
PS2 green tag Spy Hunter $10
PS2 green tag Baldurs Gate $0
Total $30

Scenario number 2(same games different order)
PS2 green tag Spy Hunter $20
PS2 green tag Baldurs Gate $20
PS2 regular price Jak 2 $20

Scenario 2 will ring up like this after total
PS2 green tag Spy Hunter $10
PS2 green tag Baldurs Gate $10
PS2 regular price Jak 2 $0
Total $20

This is going to get corrected and may already have been, but for those interested check it out. This would also work on $50 games or $40 games too(basically any priced games). And for those who think the 3rd game always rings up free, it doesn't, only if the third game is supposed to be free, so don't think you can buy 2 $20 games and get a $50 game free if its rung up third. This should help clear some green tag out of the stores.
Wait, I'm confused, so you can get like 2 PS2 games and 1 GC? Or you can only get the 3 games off the same system?
I dont want to get into the moral ickyness of this but what I do want to know is, how do you propose to get your purchase rung up in the order you want? I know TRU employees arent the brightest crayons in the box but surely youd seem awful fishy trying to get things rung up a certain way.

Can always stack them in the order of how you'd like them to be rung up and see how it goes.

Hardly moral ickiness, but everyone I've seen at any retail store seems to do things in a nice, linear order. Pick up first game, scan, put in bag, repeat until done.

Never know what luck you might have.

Just hand them one game at a time :) No need to plop a stack down. They don't care. They don't ever know that you are standing in front of them. When I worked at Fry's I couldn't remember one customer from the next since there were so many and I knew they didn't care a lick about me. Some day something better than retail will exist.

Just hand them the first two, keep the other one sitting on the edge of the counter, behind the register. After they ring the first two, say "Oh, and this too". Easy peasy.

Or have a friend bring it up to you after they've rung the 1st two.

Or give them the first two, check your wallet for cash and say "I definitely want those two, I'm not sure I have enough for this one." Then hand the third one. . .

I could probably think up a dozen more ways if you gave me a minute.

The reason I say moral ickyness is that it states clearly on the offer that the free game must be equal to or less than the paid for games. Personally, I couldnt do it without feeling guilty, but thats just me.
