That "Dead Rising 2" video from last week, that kinda looked like it could have been Dead Rising 2? It was totally Dead Rising 2. Capcom has officially announced the title not just for Xbox 360, but for PS3 and PC as well! The sequel occurs years after the events of the first game -- with the zombie virus now spread throughout the United States. The action will take place in the "gambling paradise of Fortune City". The main character is apparently no longer Frank West, but some guy in a jacket instead. It was rumored by EGM a long while back so I'm not surprised. Though long as it fixes the save, text and walkie problems, I'm sold.
 
Dead Rising is the game that tipped the scales for me to go and buy a Xbox 360, the second one being in Las Vegas sets up so many awesome possibilities. I hope this video is legit!

I loved Dead Rising, very under-appreciated game IMO.

I hope that is Frank. But even in the best ending he was bitten and that drug Isabella made only slows the process - doesn't reverse it.

I need a better quality video....hope one surfaces soon.
 
Dang, Looks good. I gotta admit, I bought my 360 cause of Dead Rising as well. I just hope there is some sort of Co-op mode. Always wanted to bash Zombie heads in with my buddy.

This will be pretty sick. Any single Hotel/Casino in Vegas is huge. I wonder if they'll do hotel floors too.
 
There was a rumor that it would take place in Vegas a long while back, so hopefully this video is legit.

Capcom announced that every game now was going to be multi-platform to maximize profit and audience. SF4 and RE5 are pretty good examples of their intentions, so you can bet that if DR2 is officially announced, it will be for both platforms ;)

Agreed. People complain constantly, but those also seem to be the same ones that died constantly because they were just bad at the game. I played through it and had no troubles. Some of the challenge of the game would be gone if you could just save whenever you wanted.
 
The save system sucked because the game was so good. I would get 3-4 hours in and having a great time and then randomly die and realize I hadn't taken the time to save. That shit pissed me off. At the very LEAST have checkpoint saves when you walk through a door or every hour or SOMETHING so that instead of losing 3 hours of progress I only lose 30 minutes.

The challenge in a game should be during gameplay not during the trip to the in game shitter.
 
How did you die that much? I can count on one hand the amount of times I died when playing seriously and that was all before I beat the first few story events.

The OG Dead Rising is so great. I hope the sequel lends itself to multiple playthroughs just like the first. The only thing I would fix is the Saint achievement. It was a huge zit on my ass. Oh, and I'd like some more toys to play with after beating the game. The Mega Buster and Zero's Sword were fucking awesome but a tank or a jet pack would have been way cooler.
 
Can't wait. Hopefully it's for this fall and not some year early tease.

As for the original, the save system was perfect. I agree that it 'enhanced' the survival aspect and if you could save anywhere there would be little challenge to the game whatsoever. However, survivor AI could definitely use an upgrade.

I've been hoping for a Dead Rising 2, as the first is easily my favorite game of the current gen. Was it perfect? No. But hot damn was it fun.

I'm hoping DR2 would be larger in scope, like an entire city or small town. Every since I beat DR1, I had this vision of a "GTA: Zombies" sort of open-ended world.

Look, just because you're incompetent and can't remember to save on your own doesn't mean the game has a bad save system. Plenty of people had no trouble remembering to go to the bathroom and save the game. Do you have trouble remembering to go to the bathroom? Cuz, if so, I could see how you could have trouble remembering to save in the game. Otherwise, quit complaining and just learn how to play properly.

I pee'd a little laughing at this, then remembered to go to the bathroom and save. :D I will admit, the convicts reappearing was annoying, but it sure as hell helped me rank up! :D
 
No doubt. Why was this such a task for people? I knew someone who complained about the same thing, and overall had an opinion the game sucked because of it. Then again, the fact that it was on 360 and not the PS3 had alot to do with his decision I think. The guy was more of a fanboy than Kaz.

Anyway, loved the game. Hope the next one is as good.

wow cant belive that many other people bought a 360 for the original like i did, im also buying it for the wii in a few weeks, and after watching the vide this looks pretty cool ill just have to decide between 360 and ps3 this time around
 
What made Dead Rising so awesome was the sheer variety of stuff to kill zombies with.

So what weapons would you put in a DR2: Vegas Edition?

This. I bought DR hoping for more of a sandbox style thing, but I found myself constantly having to sprint around the mall to make the deadlines for challenges when I really just wanted to explore some stores and kill zombies for 30 minutes straight. I never actually got around to finishing the game thanks to that.

So...you are calling me incompetent but comparing the natural act of feeling the need to go to the bathroom and remembering to go to the bathroom in a game?

Defend it all you want but the reality is the VAST majority of complaints about this game centers around the save system. It is general knowledge when it comes to this game.

The main problem for me wasn't that you had to go to the bathroom. It was that the bathroom was out of the way most of the time. I remember playing RE:CV and only being able to save at a typewriter. This wasn't bad because every once in a while you would actually come across a fucking typewriter and continue on with the game. I didn't reach a certain point and say "oh fuck, i should save" and then have to go find a save point.

I play games to have fun. Not to be frustrated.

Anyways, please continue defending what is probably the most complained about save system on any game this generation.
 
Having to go to the bathroom to save was a shitty idea (pun intended). I was looking forward to the first game but this 'feature' absolutely killed the game for me. I ended up playing off of my brothers save file which was mid-game. I got to kill zombies, it was fun, and i didn't worry about trying to find a bathroom to save in.
 
The save system annoyed me, but not because I didn't think it was a good system. It annoyed me because so many games nowadays use lazy checkpoints that I couldn't get into the habit of saving. Whenever I got upset about not saving, I was mostly upset at myself. "I can't believe I forgot to save".

Admit it or not, older games had a more challenging aspect to them. In MGS1, you had to call the asian girl to save. If you didn't, kiss your progress good bye. In Resident Evil 1 and 2, you had to go to the type writers to save and you needed paper too.

In Final Fantasy games, there's save crystals. You don't use them, you're dead meat if you go 3-4 hours before fighting Ultima Weapon after your preparation and don't save.

As soon as these games with hard drives built in came out, all this "auto saving" stuff came into play.

When you're leaving your house, your keys don't auto-jump into your pocket. If there was a zombie attack going on right now, would your bullets auto-reload into your weapon before you leave your house to hunt for food?

The less automated recourse the better for realism. Sure, games aren't supposed to be entirely like real life. That's why you can jump over buildings, run for hours without your kidneys exploding and you actually kick ass with weapons. But the save feature is the one thing you shouldn't have in "easy mode", because it easily destroys any challenge to a game. For some games, the save mode being automated makes sense. Halo 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty etc. Because those games have a linear based action story line. There's no exploration, no list of objectives. Think about how much longer a game would've lasted if you would've had to save manually. Mass Effect, Bioshock, etc. Those were all amazing games, but cut down to hours that can fit in a day because of how convenient the save system is.

No, Capcom is one of the few companies that uses a challenging save system in survival horror games. Keywords - Survival... In a survival game, the only person responsible for preparation should be the player. Auto-save is like if the dude from the Survivor show had auto-clean-feet to keep him from getting infected or if Man vs. Wild had auto-bed-create. It takes away from the very substance of what that game is supposed to be.

Yes, but in Resident Evil the map and areas you went to progressed and expanded out into newer areas. It would take 2-3 hours to run back to the beginning.

In Dead Rising, no matter how much you progressed, you were always only 5 minutes away from the bathroom. You don't believe me? Pop the game in and try it right now. Every time a new area would open up, the gates would open that would make you able to run straight back.

It added a VERY real survival aspect to the game, because you had an HQ you had to go back to that was the only safe place to be. If there actually WERE save points in real life, I'd imagine that was as close to what it would really be like. Part of the challenge of Dead Rising was proper preparation. That's what made the game as challenging as it was and the reason my friends loved it.

You had to run to the theater, get some chips and use the mixer to make some health drinks. Then go to the warehouse, pick up a few mannequin torsoes, run to the gun shop and grab some firepower, then go back to the bathroom, save your weapons and get to your objective.

And the safe room wasn't the only place you could save. The theater had a bathroom and so did a few other stores. There were more than a handful of bathrooms throughout the whole mall, so yes, it was like Resident Evil in that there were save points all over, you just didn't look for them because of your lack of preparation skills. But I don't blame you for that, I blame lazy developers who fail to implement a legitimate save system in favor of the McDonald's Drive-Through auto-save feature.

It was amazing because it felt like how well your preparation was made you a better player.

Besides, it's not like the save points were placed far out of the way. One was where you go a lot if you're returning survivors or checking on missions, and the bathrooms allowed for travel between them, allowing for quick access to other side of the mall. You end up in or near a save point quite frequently. It's a fairly weak complaint that the save system sucks because it doesn't save your game for you or because it doesn't remind you to save by plopping save points in front of you.
 
Dead Rising was a very solid game despite some questionable design decisions.

While I don't loathe the save system like others do, I can understand why some do hate it. My single biggest issue was the challenge: some parts of the game early on were rather difficult (mostly the convict battles) but by the end of the game you're so powerful there's very little challenge left. I think Capcom could have done a bit better job at making things more even throughout.

That said, I still can't wait for the sequel.
 
If the challenging aspect of a game includes the save system, the game wasn't that challenging to begin with.

I don't understand how people lump saving/how to save in with the challenge of actual gameplay. It is a shitty game mechanic that makes you blindly think you are doing something when in actuality it does nothing but save your in game progress. There are no awards/achievements/game progression from saving. It is just saving.

If my daughter needs her diaper changed or something comes up i want to be able to save my game because REAL LIFE occurred. I don't want to tell someone "wait, I have to get to the fucking bathroom and then I can save and help you with what you want." That is dumb. The fun/challenge/experience/whatever should be during the gameplay.

Comparing "realistic" aspects of a game to the save system is absurd. You can't fucking save real life. So according to the "more real" mentality of some of you, these games shouldn't have a save system - ESPECIALLY survival horrors. You should have to go find what you think is a safe corner/hole in the wall and leave your character until you come back. THAT is fucking reality. Let me save my game because it is a GAME. I have shit to do till I get back to it.

fighting Carlito in the underground tunnels, and couldn't find any advice online. He destroyed whatever car or bike or whatever I had and then easily ran me over and killed me.
I restarted the game and I've started playing through it again lately. It's a lot of fun.
 
Wait, you're okay with Resident Evil's old typewriter method of saving, but have a problem with Dead Rising's because if real life occurs, you can't just save and quit? At least with Dead Rising, where the save points are is a constant. You always know where one is, as opposed to wondering "is one coming up? should I backtrack to the previous one?" There aren't many games that allow for true quicksaving (outside of the PC world). Most all of em require some bit of work to either get to the next checkpoint or save point, or else risk losing progress. If an emergency does occur, you can always pause/turn your controller off so the game doesn't progress.

Incidentally, Dead Rising does have a "realistic" mode with no saving. It's called Infinity mode. It's just you, the mall, and a bunch of zombies. Food doesn't respawn, psycopaths appear without warning and intro scenes, and there's no one to rescue. It's just a test to see how long you can make it.

I am fine with the typewriters because you come across them during gameplay. I would just rather quick save any time I want though. Games like Mass Effect and Fallout 3 aren't hindered by quick saving and last i recalled no one bitched about the feature either. if people want a more "realistic" save method then where are the complaints when games without it come out?

Not sure about any Vegas specific ones, but I hope the frying pan and cooking oil return. There was nothing funnier than Zombies sliding around in the oil after you smaked 'em in the face with the bottle.

My main 'Want' for the game though is in regards to Frank. I hope he returns, and if he does I hope the game can read your DR1 save game and import your stats. It will be terrible if they gimp Frank for part 2, knowing he already learned all kinds of moves.

You fail at video games. Grab your controller, now look at the silver 'guide' button in the center. To the immediate right of that is another button with a triangle on it. When you need to use the can or change a diaper, you can hit that button and miraculously it pauses the game.

Bingo! I think people gave up before they unlocked the vents/tunnel system because once it's open you use it all the time so you are constantly running to the bathroom to 'jump' across half the map.

IIRC, you let him chase you to a corner of one of the tunnels, hop off your bike and shoot him with a shotgun.
