Dead Rising 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info - Out now!

I personally enjoy the machete/broom combo. It breaks relatively fast, but it gives out a good chunk of XP and is fantastic at wiping out large crowds in a snap.

I think I'm going to start my second play through tonight. This time I'm not going to do any of the main quests and just focus on leveling up by killing zombies and rescuing survivors.

I have never seen so many fucking loading screens in all my life. Its like playing a PS2 game. The game trailers review of this was dead on.

Crowd Control =
Power Guitar (Electric Guitar + Amp)
. There's a music shop filled with both components on the first floor of the Royal Flush Plaza to the left of the slot machines. Once you've grown accustom to the animation you plow right through crowds with ease. I always carry at least three of them at all times now.

Psycho Killer =
Tenderizers (MMA Gloves + Box of Nails)
. A friend of mine told me the three hit combo stuns most of them to point where only a boss shove can break it while causing massive damage. I haven't tried it out myself but since he has over 40 combo cards just dicking around in the game I'll take his word for it.

Sad thing is, I beat this whole game with the boxing gloves/bowie knife combo. Thing does SO much damage. Ended up at level 36. Anybody wanna co-op? Send me a message on live! Also got the secret achievement! :D

I spent some time yesterday getting all the gambling books and slot machine grinding money off that huge slot machine. Got up to 6.5 million and went on a spending spree buying the suv key, the chopper key and the knight boots.

The suv is amazing, I need to start over and get a driving book and go for 72,000 killed.

Only been playing for a bit but am having a lot of fun so far. Took a bit of time to get back into the Dead Rising formula and get used to where things are located and what events occur when, but now that I am, it's great fun.

I'm attempting to go for the achievement where I escort 8 survivors at once, and I've got 5 in my party, but for some reason I'm not getting ANY new messages. I'm at
case 2-1 (where he goes to investigate the underground) and I just defeated Leon (Meet the Contestants)
and I'm waiting for more messages so I can go round up more survivors, but I'm not getting any. I probably wandered around Royal Flush Plaza waiting for new messages for about 5-6 in-game hours and got nothing.

How are the missions set up? Are they given out at a certain time or do you have to complete certain cases or rescue so many survivors in order to get access to them?

Also, where's the best place to find dynamite and a machete? I love the Blambow and the Broomstick-Machete combo, but they seem kind of hard to come by.

Also #2, the electric chair is awesome. At least 100 kills per chair can be had.

I have always found the Dead Rising bosses dick stamping hard.. I personally am stuck on a certain mission where sisters attack you. After reading this thread I'm soon about to try getting into that gun shop or taking them on using the Claws, if that doesn't work I guess I'm gonna have to wait for a tutorial to come out.

The sisters were hard for me as well until I found out you only have to kill one. Just go in with one or two spiked bats and possibly a sword. Fill the rest of your slots with food and drinks as all that's in the club is beer. Once in there, just focus on one sister the entire time. Also, don't be afraid to spend a lot of time running away from them (I found the bar area works best as you can keep hopping over the counter).

Stock up on combo melee weapons (Knife Gloves, Tenderizers, Pole Arms, Defilers are some of the strongest available) and take advantage of the Casino bar's endless supply of wine by blending up a bunch of Quick Step drinks. Focus on one throughout the entire battle using the bar tables for cover whenever you have to heal. There's also an LMG in front of the casino vault if you need it. You might want to bring a shotgun or two from the gunshop in Palisades Mall as well. DO NOT DRINK ANY LIQUOR UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY AND NO MORE THAN TWO PERIOD. Unless of course you've found an alcohol mag in which case you can drink as much as you want.

So long as you have enough weapons and QS juice you should be fine.

P.S. - MAKE SURE YOU SAVE IN THE BATHROOM BELOW THE CLUB. Easy to miss/forget.

Woo, finally won the last Terror Is Reality event that I needed for the trophy. I can now be done with that game forever...unless I decide to go back for the outfit you get after accruing 5 million in winnings. But that's unlikely.

For any psycho, never neglect to bring in some Painkillers (beer + beer in a blender). Good health regeneration and a bit of additional defense. For the
twins
in particular, the big key to that fight is picking one, and being careful not to engage when both are around. If both start attacking you at the same time, you'll probably lose half your health.

Thanks for all the helpful replies guys. It took me 3 more tries (first try I went in trying to no-scope with the snipers, second time shotguns) and I finally got it on the last try with one set of boxing gloves + knife combo and A LOT of beer & vodka.. Lol. It took a while due to the fact I had to run away a ton and the constant throwing up due to the fact that I the only food available was alcohol.

But yeah, this game is really fun. The only flaws I have seen so far are:
Loading screens / times......... It could just be me or my ancient 360 but these are too long and too often.. It really gets frustrating after a while especially if you go through a wrong door or need to turn back.

Occasional slow downs: I am pretty sure this is just my console (1.5 year old restored arcade), but sometimes (especially outside where there is water) I will experience some slow down, but as I said, I think this is just me.

Online play: I can never find a TIR game to join.. which sucks. Also I haven't tried it personally, but the co-op sounds frustrating.

Oh. My. Shit. The Super B.F.G. is godly. I just wish it came with more ammo.

Does anyone have any tips for
Sullivan?
I have a sniper rifle but I can't use it when I'm surrounded by zombies and getting shot no matter where I hide to heal. This boss fight is REEEEEAAAALLLLYYY starting to piss me off.

The bosses in this game are very cheap; they run faster, have perfect aim, and use unstoppable combos.
As for
Sullivan, stock up on health, use that machine gun that has 200 rounds, and shoot every chance you get. If you run out of health run back down to the lobby and there's a nearby beer hall for food and the casino's office/vault should have another machine gun. Sullivan doesn't regain his health, so that helps.

I wish I had realized the Yucatan was the same casino where you fought the twins sooner. Once I realized I could climb up to where he was perched and had access to the bar I blended up a bunch of drinks, circle strafed, front kicked him in gut to stun him then shotgunned him to death.

I hate that guy.

I got all the money I needed last night too. Didn't take as long as I thought it would actually.

It seems like bosses don't regain their health even if you leave the area so use that to your advantage if you run on of healing items. I was fighting one of the rooftop snipers, ran out of food, left the area for more and when I came back the sniper's health was still at half.

As for
Sullivan, I just ran around for a bit and he took care of the zombies for me with his explosives.

My strat for him was the same as my strat for just about every psycho. Knife Gloves + Copious amounts of Painkiller. Knife Gloves are one of the few (only?) weapons that he won't disarm from you. Once you get on the scaffolding, the fight becomes mainly waiting for him to melee you -> counter with a swipe or two with the gloves -> roll away -> repeat.

Best strategy for
Sullivan
is to go into the casino vault that's right out to the left of where the elevators are. There's a machine gun and assault rifle in there, grab them. Also, to the right of the elevators is a restaurant. Go in there and kill the three security guards for their pistols. Also grab plenty of food from in there, and mix up some drinks.

After that, go up and fight him. When you go through the double doors, there's a big green half wall right in front of you. Just stay behind that and peek out to shoot at him. Also, if you start to run low on ammo, don't be afraid to just leave the battle and go back downstairs to the casino. All the guns will have respawned.

He was by far the easiest boss in the game IMO.

Same thing. This is getting lame.

I honestly didn't expect the S ranking to be so easy to get on my initial play-through. Last boss was a joke once I got my hands on a decent weapon. Great game overall but I'm really looking forward to Case West.

Beat the game last night and got me the S ending.
Totally forgot there was a overtime mode when the first credits rolled by and thought what a crappy ending since Katey and Stacey disappeared. The final ending made me jump a bit

Great game, definitively easier (imo) than the first. The last few bosses
Sullivan and TK
gave me some trouble, but after a few tries, you start to see their pattern.

Gonna work on achievements now pretty much, starting with survivors/psychos and probably end it with the 72,000 kill and the TIR multiplayer (really wished it wasn't laggy sometime, especially in ramsterball).

Also, this game had a lot of "Dat Ass" scenes ;). Can't wait till Case West comes out.

Finished my first playthrough at work tonight. Just pretty much explored and tried to complete every side mission possible (survivors, psychos, survivor requests) and got Ending C which entails
Chuck hanging out in the security room in the safe house with Stacy and they hear gunshots, Chuck goes to the door and boom. Two shots to the chest.
Was kind of a downer, but I expected it as I abandoned the main storyline around case 2-1.

Plan on doing the main storyline the next playthrough and then the next one will be the one where I try to get and complete everything.
Also, this game had a lot of "Dat Ass" scenes ;). Can't wait till Case West comes out.
LOL. I know right?
R.I.P. Rebecca & Twins. Such a waste.

You don't want to get me started on Ramsterball. It always lags. Always. ;\

I don't know if it was my imagination, but it seemed the Swat suit found in the hunting store at Palisades Mall reduces the damage that guns do to you. It made a lot of psychos easy.

Maybe it's just me imagining that and the game was too easy for me? I never really fought a boss without the suit once I got it, but once I had the suit it seemed damage was mitigated.

For every boss I just used Knife Gloves + Painkiller + Dodge Roll and had no problem with any of them after the twins (which I got on my second try)... once I got to about level 35 or so the psychopaths were pretty simple.

I think to key to the psychopaths is remembering to use the Dodge Roll (click the left stick in once you acquire it) since you will quickly move out of the way of their attacks and counterattack.

I ended up saving 48 survivors on my first playthrough... which sucks. So close to 50. I missed pretty much every one the game doesn't tell you about.

Which store was that? I'm tempted now to go find it, plus I could use it for my cheezemints as well. But your advice is the best. Once I had enough painkiller and knife gloves, game was a breeze with the bosses. Only person I had trouble on was
Slappy! Damn asshole wouldn't stand still enough so I had to keep throwing stuff at him so he would look around
I also ended up with 49 surviors, so second playthrough is on the way and I'm just mopping up the cheezemints right.

Just about done with the first play through. Great game but a lot easier than the first Dead Rising. I think it is partly because I know how to play the game from the get go of this one and the better AI for Survivors. My Survivors mopped up the zombies at all times pretty much never getting stuck, grabbed or attacked. Also I never felt lacking for a weapon. I always had a steady supply of spiked baseball bats or whatever I needed.

Even the psychos seemed easier this time around with maybe dying once at them just getting use to their attacks or what not.

Slappy? Run and he'll follow you, just get him in a smaller hallway and he's easy

There is a gun store on the same floor as Slappy is. I found him pretty simple, just took 3 steaks, 2 shotguns and a few sniper shots and he was on the floor crying like a bitch. True story: My wife said "Awwwwwwwwwwwww" when he said that he was going to be with his girlfriend soon.

So are there any in game rewards for getting certain achievements? You know like in the 1st game you got the megabuster, the megman jump suit, etc.

Only thing like that I've seen is

*Spoiler I guess*
The snipers in the open area. After I killed 2 or 3 of them got a prison jumpsuit. Not sure if it was from hitting an achievement or just from killing those guys.

The jumpsuits from the Kill 10 psychos achievement.

You also unlock stuff from the following
Beat the game with ending S
Rescue 50 survivors
Get the achievement for killing zombies with all melee weapons
Win an "episode" of TIR
Have 1 million in net winnings from TIR
Have 5 million in net winnings from TIR

That's all I know about, but none of it's a weapon or piece of gear as cool as the laser sword or real mega buster.

I guess I got lucky with the overtime battle. The boss does this tackle move where he picks you up and runs you forward til you hit a wall. He ended up getting stuck for 15 seconds trying to run me through some boxes in a corner, then when the move finally hit, he got bumped inside a wall. I could hit him, but he couldnt hit me. Needless to say, I made short work of him.

That is pretty lame that Ramsterball always lag, that is probably why I won my first time playing TIR. I had power 80% of the time during that game.

Wasn't really expecting Rebecca to die, but yea. She is a waste....*sigh

The way I beat
Slappy was with the tenderizer (axe+sledge hammer), super soaker, and some OJ. If you hit him with the super soaker, he stops and is in a stunned phase. Jump attacked with the tenderizer and did one more melee hit. Rinse and repeat. Pretty easy boss imo

The store is in the mall on the NE side with Yucatan and Alantica casinos joining it. Its on the 2nd floor north end on the left side.

Yeah I got the same ending. Was definitely pretty weak. I think I'll load a play through back up and not get Katey her final zombrex in time and see what happens with that.

My next play through I am going to go for the genocider achievement and then maybe collect all the combo cards while really exploring Fortune City. I am pretty sure I haven't even been inside some of those buildings. once I am maxed out I'll go for the main story and try and save everyone.

EDIT: I replayed and got ending D,
Pretty much the same deal except chuck is captured by the military, the words at the end say that there is no record of Chuck's capture or that any of the survivros made it out alive.

The lag is killin me in TIR, not to mention the vague rules of bounty hunter.

Loving the game so far, but the game seriously needs to up the zombie count in TIR. Only for the last round of slicercycles do you feel the kickin ass feeling.

Is there more game types in TIR? And does anybody have a sports pack DLC code they will sell?

Loading is horrid in this game but anyway.

So every time I am in a co op game and save it boots the person connected. Why is that? It makes it impossible for that person to get any cheesemints as well as keep anything other than stats.

So the choice becomes do not save for huge chunks of time or have my friend reconnect every 15min. (Seriously, did they even try with this game? Its barely average at best.)

Co-op was obviously tacked on, I've run into the same issue and hopefully they'll patch that problem.

But barely average? Ouch. I wish co-op had been done better but my biggest concern was for the single player game, and it's exactly what I wanted.

Pfft. I like both DR1 and DR2 but come on, this game is all types of average. This is a clear bait and switch game. Yes, 700 zombies on screen at once while having crazy weapons to kill with is fun and cool and doing it with a friend is even cooler but you can smell the shit they swept under the run a mile away.

The loading in this game is fucking embarrassing for a next gen system. I dont care about your 700 rendered zombies...I would much rather have you take it down to 300 so that maybe I can play for more than 5 min without three 20 second loading screens. This game loads cutscenes out of other cutscenes for christ sake.

No voice acting? Lazy...pure and simple. Having to smash B 50 times to get through conversation with a survivor while fending off the 15 or so undead around you...I am not even sure they want you to read what they wrote. This got a pass in DR1 because its the first of its kind but this is something that should be improved in a sequel.

Co-op....if you can even call it that seems to be not even close to fleshed out. How does making your partner reset back to the main screen and reconnect when you want to save make it past QA? Especially when they touted that has a main feature. The only reason why I got this game now was because of co-op if it didnt have it I wouldnt have even thought about until it was 20 or so bucks.

Etc etc etc. There are a lot of things wrong with the game BUT is it still fun to play with your mates? Yes. But I could never call it anything but a very close to being subpar, average game.

(Strictly opinion on the story) Anything other than the main story line cut scenes are god awful. I know they are going for that over the top campy feel but it came across much better in DR1..now it just feels like they couldnt come up with anything.

This game reminds me a lot of Crackdown 2. But this is and the game trailer review are sums it up best. http://pc.gamezone.com/reviews/item/dead_rising_2/

I don't know if it's because I'm on the PS3 and the loading times are better, but I can't say I was ever really bothered by them. And after reading the review, I never experienced any of those issues. TIR has been just fine for me, usually lag-free, and I've only been DC'd mid game due to rage-quit once. I haven't tried the co-op yet, mainly because I don't see a reason to...but I am wondering if I'm just not noticing these problems, or if the 360 version is just inferior.

As for the story...
Definite step down from DR1. First 3/4 of the game was all about dealing with TK and his scheme, which overall meant very little to the actual plot. Come Dead Rising 3 (if there is one), TK won't be remembered, only that a pharmaceutical company staged an outbreak in order to make more of its medicine while driving up supply. And that entire revelation was boiled down to one or two missions.

Did they ever explain the purpose of the gas? Did it make the green larva evolve into queens faster or something?

Then there was Overtime. I save the dude's life, my tiger doesn't attack him (c'mon Snowflake), then he has me run around grabbing random items, and then we fight. Not nearly as interesting as Frank West and Isabella trying to escape the mall to ensure the story gets out.

Also...no Elvis-impersonator psycho? C'mon....

I disagree on it being subpar, simply because there aren't any other games out there like Dead Rising to compare it too. Despite the game's problems I'll be getting my moneys worth out of this for sure; when most of the time I don't.

A good example is God of War 3. Way better game, but for 60 bucks?! Take that no re-playability and 8 hour campaign and shove up your ass!!! I paid 40 dollars for the PC version of this game, and have definitely got that out of it already. Load times also aren't as much of an issue. However, I am going to be PISSED if the DLC doesn't start to make its way to the PC. We didn't get the Case 0 or any of the knickknack DLC that I heard is out, but we better get Case West!

As for as the review you linked, I found it to be overly harsh. Apparently the co-op and multiplayer were highly touted? News to me.
