Dead Rising 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info - Out now!

My money is on someone figured out a way to play the entire game through the demo.

/edit: unless this is just a delay for the JPN market
I guess the amount of gore in the demo of this game made them rethink putting it out there. If they wait too long, there won't be much point in buying this for $5.
This is for the Japan market... it's coming this week. This article is going to confuse a ton of people.
did anyone actually make it through the webisodes they put up on xbox? I made it 2 min into the first one before I just stopped and deleted them all, VERY bad
I've watched them all. Theyy were pretty bad, but the last episode was by far the worst. But it was still hilarious, especially the bit at the end where Inafune talked about the problems he ran into while making the webisodes.

Saw this today.

BestBuy's Pre-Order Bonus: Sports Fan Outfit

It not only shows off Chuck's team spirit, but also grants him new abilities:

Increased Power for All Sports Weapons:
Baseball bats swing harder; balls bounce more; and the years of armchair coaching pay off when sports-themed weapons become greater tools of zombie destruction.

Unique Attack:
Grab a football and plow down the undead competition with a powerful running stiff-arm.

Better Health Recovery:
Who can go into the big game without half-time snacks? With the Sports Fan theme pack, Chuck earns additional health whenever he consumes food or drink.

Increased Gambling Winnings:
Your luck goes further than the field. Sports Fan Chuck will gain additional money whenever he wins in the casinos.

That's pretty cool. I wonder if they have the codes with pre-order at the store. I already got mine pre-ordered from Amazon but if I can score the code from Best Buy, I'm down.

I imagine it's like most stores, where you will get the code when you pay for the full game. I might have to head over there today and see what's up, as I'd like the code but I would rather stick with my Amazon pre-order since I have credit there and a Prime account.

Yeah it's pretty neat. I wonder if the Ninja outfit will give a boost to edged weapons? I'm not pre-ordering anywhere (freaking law school) but I hope I can snag some codes too.

Not sure where all the Dead Rising Sun webisode hate is coming from buuuuuttt... to each his own. I personally loved them (especially episode 7... I've got to find/make a gif of the fight scene). I expected terrible B movie tier horror and wasn't disappointed. Between that and the Case Zero trial I'm content enough to fork over the points for the rest of the content.

So does CZ really explain the whereabouts of Frank West? I seriously miss the guy and doubt I'll grow as attached to Chuck if Capcom didn't give him an iconic "I've covered wars" line. Either way some closure at this point would be appreciated.
So how did case zero explain frank again? the devs said it would
At the end I was expecting Frank
to be the guy who stole his truck, then after a argument they sort of go into a playful good luck buddy/passing the torch sort of thing.
Too bad that didn't happen.

After playing case zero at a buddy's house and building the spiked baseball bat at the workshop, I immediately pre-ordered this game! It's going to be fucking fun as shit to play.

I'll be too broke to get it, but, what got me to want to even consider preordering was the IED full combo card. After that it was just constant combo scratch card gravy. Beer hat to give you health whenever you want? C'mon. Frank would have killed for some shit like that in Dead Rising one.

And here I thought DR2 would suck.

What would be great is if you had to finish all the different endings to unlock a sandbox mode. That would make this game worth it. I understand the need for timed missions. It creates an urgency. But how about a mode that allows you to just have fun killing zombies. The ability to go around create different weapons and just reek havoc would be so much fun and would definitely add to the replay value.

I just don't understand the developer's thinking. Keep the timed missions, but add a sandbox mode to just do whatever the heck you want. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if it happens in the next Dead Rising game.

I am still looking forward to this game (mostly for the co op) but Case Zero didnt do it any favors. I am disappointed by the lack of technological advancement by this game, if we are to assume the full game will be like case zero.

This game did its best to remind me of the PS2 era games. The lack of voice acting is just lazy, the controls are still....not bad but not great either and I am surprised that it didnt run better than DR1.

Anyway, I saw some gameplay vids for the retail versions and it looks pretty good and co op just sweetens the deal.

Have you played DR1? You unlock unlimited mode after you beat overtime. Unlimited is sorta like a sandbox mode. I assume DR2 will have the same thing.

The best way I've heard DR explained is that it's like Groundhog Day. There's nothing wrong with playing it and goofing around the whole time and failing the story and not saving any survivors. And actually it's probably the best thing to do when you start the game, so you learn the map, the weapons, and level up.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!

I've been preaching this same thing since so many people started to slam the first game after it came out. People also didn't understand why the save system was the way it was.

The game wasn't going to let you keep reloading and trying apart again and again. A perfect play through was just that; perfect. There are no do overs and it made getting shit done all the more rewarding.

I can't wait for this game!!!
make sure you download the free versions of the dlc at least for when DR2 comes out, lets you play with people who have pre-order outfits

Anyone else wondering why they just wouldn't have a day one update? Seems odd they would prefer you to download these through the marketplace.

other games have done this

some of the racing games do it with car packs and crackdown 2 did it with it's dlc

got a text from gamestop, I guess my local store is doing a midnight release for DR2

I didn't think this game would see a midnight release but I'll take it when I can get it.

Having only played the first one years ago, can someone explain to me how the save system works in 2? What would be the best way to play this game? Just mess around and level up until you reach a high enough level to tackle the main story quests without running out of time?

There are a decent amount of save points compared to the last game. After restarting a few times after I kept missing the deadlines for the main storyline mission, I just decided to keep rescuing people to gain levels. I got up to level 41 on my first full playthrough. Halfway through the second, I got to 50.

An extremely helpful map can be found below:

http://www.msxbox-world.com/features/Dead-Rising-2/index.php

It lets you mark objectives as completed, which is great for those achievements for finding all the items/clothes/weapons/etc.

Well, no shipping email for me yet, as it's in "Shipping Soon" status and I have Prime so that's automatic RDD. Guess it'll be email time for Amazon unless it magically will show up tomorrow.

I'm extremely unhappy with the way the collector's edition was packaged and I will be sending off an e-mail to Capcom.

Here's an aerial view.

Everything's packed all neat and nice, the syringe pen is awesome.. but wait, what's that folded up? Is that a map?

Nope, it's the Zombrex brochure/book/magazine, folded and warped right out of the box.

Really, Capcom? Was it that hard to ship it separately with a note saying "Hey, can you hand this out with collector's edition purchases? Thanks."

I hate spending this much money on a collector's edition only to get screwed like this. It's not just mine, either.. every single one of the collector's editions were packaged this way.

Just because it was a little bit harder to see from the aerial viewpoint, here's another picture of the damage.

Sucks a big one that part of your CE was damaged, but honestly, do you want stores to be responsible for handing any part of limited editions out? We all know what happens to that stuff. Employees walk off with it, they give it to people who didn't purchase/pre-order the right edition, etc.

It's every CE, not just mine. Yes, I want stores to be responsible. If the person cares for it, they can ask. It's not like pre-order incentives haven't been given out before. That's what this could've been with Gamestop or something. Regardless, I want an undamaged Zombrex brochure book. If any part of any CE/LE I get is damaged, I feel immediately jipped.

Um...yeah...and if stores were "responsible" for it, you asked for yours, and it was gone, what would you do then?

I guess I wouldn't get one, would I?

I don't understand why stores would be "out" of one. If they were, they have an untrustworthy employee issue.

Regardless, my original point: This item that came with the limited edition should not have been pre-damaged.

As far as the game goes, no complaints here, but I'm annoyed with the idle time in animations. When you do the secondary swing with the sledgehammer, you're pretty much completely vulnerable for at least two seconds. Also, when he's changing clothes, he spends at least five seconds checking himself out, so always make sure the area is clear of zombies before you change clothes.

The cash grab machine is awesome!!

Thanks everyone, I was looking forward to Dead Rising 2 and then rolled my eyes when I read about performance issues. Glad to hear they seemingly have ironed those out, if the issue ever really existed.

Depends on what you call performance issue. There is the long load time, pop in, and some lag. If you have a good enough PC it doesnt have any of those problems.

I don't see why not, stores are entrusted all the time to hand out arguably more valuable items as pre-order bonuses; soundtracks, t-shirts, art books, and so forth. I don't see why they couldn't handle a couple of brochures for the CE edition. Not that it really matters to me, as I didn't go for the CE anyway.

Got my copy today, god I love Amazon Prime!

Has anyone beat
the twins
yet? I'm level 12 and
they
constantly kill me. I go in with two shotguns and three SMG's and I still get dominated.

Anyone have a spare servbot mask code they'd be willing to give/sell/trade me? :D

Game's really fun, glad they improved on a ton of Dead Rising 1's downfall. LOVE the combo weapons.=)
