Dead Rising 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info - Out now!

Just picked this up, partially for the co-op. Didn't do any research.

How is the co-op? Is it basically drop-in main story? Separate mode with no objectives?

Drop in, though you can pretty much screw around with no objective regardless. Still you should be aware that the co-op can be really fun, some of us have had problems with getting kicked out of a co-op game when the game gets saved. Others here haven't had those issues. If it is the only reason you've purchased the game you might be disappointed, it isn't the most thought out portion of the game for sure.

Co-op is awesome. It follows the HOST's story. You dont progress story. But you can get points for achievements (Psychopaths, Survivors, Zombies Killed, etc.)

There is a HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE bug. The HOST needs to move their save file OFF the hard drive. Move it to the internal memory, or a flash drive. You will be kicked when the HOST saves.

Otherwise it is VERY fun co-op. I had a blast. It's also fun killing every psychopath @ level 50 for them, ad saving every survivor. lol.

I'd also get into the habit of creating a separate save slot for co-op otherwise you'll have to restart your game from the beginning since it doesn't save your story progress.

the psychopaths are Fing hard at level 10. and the amount of zombies its hard to get through anything.

i really wished the cpu survivors didnt hurt me/or get hurt from me. . i don't like hurting them when trying to remove zombies off them.

the survivors are nice to have with shotguns. funny thing is i brought 4 survivors to the Theodore(ted) fight and 2 died and then i died and the tiger didn't lose any(much) health. wrong target?

the damage needs to be fix. im tired of zombies grabbing me for an instant (before the analog thing pops up) and i lose a health bar just from that millisecond grab. and the teleport grab

when i save i do not like the freeze Delay

I almost got screwed in a game ender. i traveled to save two sirvivors barley got there. saved with them. then i found myself with almost NO time to travel back to the safe house to trigger the next case.

anyone wanna get a multplayer or even co-op game going (4 player co-op?)

How I defeat the psycho's: 3 shotguns from the gun shop and the rest food, then just strafe from side to side whilst spamming bullets. I'm only on level 14 or something like that and I have defeated pretty much all of the psycho's on my first or second try doing that.

Psycho Killer =
Knife Gloves [Bowie Knife + Boxing Gloves]

You can make at least two of them as soon as you exit the safe house. A random zombie roaming about near the slot machines will usually have a knife in hand plus there's one on the very top of the magazine stand. Gloves can be found in the sports shop right next to the magazine stand.

The amount of damage they shave off per hit is f*cking ridiculous. Game breaking IMO. Just make a bunch of them and fill the rest of your inventory with juice/food. You'll be surprised how fast psychos fall.

level up, you are trying to do too much at a slightly low level

co-op is 2 player btw

lol i killed chucks fan(the psycho) by trapping him in the door frame while he was in his running animation. he didn't do anything and i just kept waking away

I'll be the next person to say that the Knife Gloves kick arse. As effective as they are, I create and use a lot of other combo weapons too just to keep it from getting boring. The electric chair is a lot of fun to use and you can get a lot of kills if you toss your electrically charged zombie into one of those large crowds that congregate around zone-changing doors. The Blambow is also awesome and if you aim right, you can get 20-30 kills in one shot. The Defiler is great for clearing a large group using the heavy attack. And so on.

Anybody know if there are any books that increase the durability of combo weapons? Because that would be amazing. But I suppose it would be kind of game-breaking as having Knife Gloves that last 3 times as long would make the game a cakewalk.

I think the defiler is overrated. It's heavy attack radius is kind of small, Chuck spins and walks slow when doing it. Plus his staggering at the end almost always leads to being grabbed. I think the heavy attack for the machete+broom weapon trumps the defiler.

I like the spitball+tiki torch weapon, freedom bear is pretty funny, boom stick is fun too.

As far as practical goes though the nailbat, tenderizers, and the knife gloves are really where its at.

I will give you that. For as many times I've executed a successful heavy attack and killed 10+ zombies, I've chosen a bad time or place to do a heavy attack and end up killing 3 zombies or getting grabbed. I love the Machete/Broom combo as well, but I can never find any machetes. Are there not many in the game or something?

Did they fix the thing where it kicks you from co-op when your partner saves? I was just playing some co-op with a friend and didn't get kicked once.

Move the save file from the Hard drive. I think this fixes it.

I am playing on PC though so have not experience any trouble...because I haven't experienced co-op, lol.

There are a few in the Yucatan casino. There is one for sure right in the entrance/exit going to/from the silver strip where right when you go up the escalators there is a little place that juts out in between the two escalators and right on top there is a machete.

The Yucatan in general has a wealth of items it seems for making weapons. There is even a shotgun, LMG, and a zombrex on top of the big center thing that you can climb on top of. Pretty sweet place.

Another thing, what is the best way to kill 72,000 zombies? I thought I was well on the way to doing it buy riding around the silver strip in the suv, but no. I might make it to the 52,000+ that i need for the one genocider achievement, but definitely not the 72,000.

I mean to say that I haven't experienced any problems either, so I was wondering if they had fixed it. As for the fastest way to get kills, driving around in the car is probably the best way to do so.

Has anyone had problems with the map? When i press select and look at the first floor the whole outline of the stores and casino areas is gone. The only thing there is icons showing me where the maintenance rooms and elevators are. But on the 2nd floor and underground maps everything is normal

I'm confused by your logic. It doesn't save story progress for the person who joins, but you can keep money/PP. Why not add that to your game instead of keeping a "co-op" only character? For example, my friend was only one case in, but joined up into my game for a couple hours. He quickly shot up to level 10. Now he's playing the game with a nice boost.

What? I use my single player save just fine. It doesnt erase your progress unless you finish the game with the host.

Yea, this has happened to me a few times.

The defiler is my favorite weapon. It's a beast against psychopaths. I usually stay close and do the heavy attack which will hit 2-3 times and when I'm recovering, my co-op partner will move in with a spiked bat or knife gloves until I can do it again. Works great.

i played some co-op. my zombie count number started at zero(started co-op from menu and clicked the save where i have 1000 i thought) if i was to have saved would my saved zombie count reset or gone up? (i could have tested this myself but didnt want to take the chance)

im on case 3-2. i started the case late and now everytime i get to the van to destroy it i fail before i can and this one survivor i could bring only spawns on occasion and probably would just delay the time more.

got a match in ranked. then lost connection. when i went to recently played list one of the guys was OFFLINE. so either he quit or RROD or lost connection. but i want to test this theory out more after all someone quits in halo reach 90% of the time.

The only thing you carry over in co-op is your level, skills, combo card... etc. I dn't think it keeps track of what you've used on zombies, how many you've killed, etc.

If you saved, you would still have the same amount you killed in single player.

So I just finished defeating
Sgt. Boykin and was on the mission to carry Rebecca back to the safe house. On the way back, I figured I'd stop by and pick up the Tape It or Die crew and the two soldiers in the middle of Fortune Park. I only needed the combo cards the Tape It or Die crew had to get the survivor and all combo card achievements. Except, I wasn't awarded with those because the safe house had been overrun with zombies and apparently bringing back any survivors during this case voids any rewards you get from them. And I saved when it prompted because I thought, "No way, the game wouldn't just screw me over like that! I'll get the combo cards for sure." Nope! And now I'll have to play the game over again just to get to that point and get those combo cards. fucking stupid.

Wow, you should consider warning people about what case # this is and tell them to just start it and finish it, doing nothing in between.

Where do you get the tape it or die people? Two soldiers in Fortune park? You're not talking about the hillbillies are you?

I keep missing those darn Tape it or Die guys-- 2 play throughs and they haven't been there either time! Worst thing is that there's 3 achievements that are tied to those survivors.

It was Case 6. Make sure
you go back to the safe house (with Rebecca of course) and re-barricade it. THEN go out and get the Tape It or Die guys and the two soldiers.

Speaking of, no they are not the psychotic ultra-conservative dudes. Those two soldiers are stranded there after the military gets there and gets owned by the mutated zombies. They're there after the boss fight with the Sgt. You also need to find them if you want the achievement for filling up the notebook.

And the Tape It or Die people are in the sports store in Palisades Mall.

A helpful tip, I followed this guy's walkthrough and it worked like a charm. Everything popped up when it was supposed to and I got all cases, psychopaths and all survivors.

I cannot beat this $%@#% chef. I've tried 3 times with the knife gloves and the light sword, I just can't chip away at his life fast enough, he just keeps eating and regenerating health.

Just bring a survivor and equip him with a gun. Then it is a easy fight

Use a range weapon (plates, pistol, etc.) to stop him from regenerating his health. Later on, as you level up, you'll become faster and be able to reach him in time to stop him from regenerating. Also, try to use weapons that can be used quickly (the drill spear thing works well) and avoid ones that take too long to swing. Never hit him three times in a row--as soon as you attempt a third hit, he will hit you with an unstoppable attack.

I had the LMG the third time and almost had him, but I had to run out to get some health as he kept nailing me. I noticed that guns don't hurt him much, does stop him from eating though like you said.
Every time I play TIR I rip my pubes out
lol, that bad eh. I still have to do 2 achievements for TIR, but I think I played all I can for DR2 for now.

Currently working on the 72k kill and I am 14,000 kills away with 14 hours before the game ends. Going to be a tight schedule.

I finished TIR last night (somehow) - so now I am cleaning up. My final run will be Z-Genocider 2. Just trying to earn some cash for 6 mill, and figure out the melee weapon I am missing.

I cant wait for Case West.
Every time I play TIR I rip my pubes out
Not me, I think I've come in first for the event the last 7/10 games. But with Ramsterball lag I don't think I'm ever going to get the TK's favorite achievement.
Every time I play TIR I rip my pubes out
LMFAO. Funny as hell. I hate that you have to watch the opening all the darn time.

I've been playing this, but still haven't TRIED to beat the cases... I focused on leveling.

If anyone wants to play, preferably coop from start to finish on the cases, lemme know...

GT: Rhett819

WTF?! I missed the mother fucking tape it or die group because apparently they're there in the room before case 6, which is what I discovered after looking into it when the damn door didn't open.

It was a perfect game up until this; son of a bitch!

I've been playing Rock Band 3 and just now I noticed there is a guitar goal called, "HOPO-cidal maniac" where you have to do 53,596 hammer ons or pull offs. Pretty funny.

I finally beat the game this weekend and got the S ending. Absolutely loved playing it and look forward to playing a new game where I can focus solely on rescuing survivors and killing psychos. I was like 2 survivors away from saving the 50 needed for the achievement.

Anyone who preordered from Amazon, be sure you check your email. Just got an email about the "consolation prize" since we didn't get the promised Avatar code. It's a goodie.
50% of MvC3 on 360!

Wtf, no it isn't. I just got this too. I want my pre-order DLC not a code for some game I am never going to buy

EDIT: Sorry, I don't want to get anyone's hopes up. I AM going to buy the game and then sell it immediately so I'm keeping the code.

wont it is easier to sell the code instead of getting the game then having to ship it out (shipping will cost money)

FYI I talked to customer service and they said they are still working on the dlc, its just delayed. I also talked to amazon CS and they are giving me a $20 video game credit for anything in lieu of the code, which since i would have had to sell it and run the risk of scammers and not get full value anyways is much better for me.
