Dead Rising General Game/Demo Discussion Thread

I'm not expecting much more than a million ways to kill a zombie, so this should satisfy me and maybe even my need to play this game.

anyway, started my DL at 8:30 AM and it's just passing 50%. fucking SBC DSL

So it seems this has to be DL as soon as I get home. The game didn't sound too deep to me from the start but I am in the mood for some sensless killing.

Screw it. Screw Microsoft, screw the 360, screw the Dead Rising demo.. fucking freezing yet again. My 360 just hates certain games.. Full Auto, Table Tennis, Lost Planet, now Dead Rising. It's complete and total bullshit, and I know i'll call Microsoft and they'll want me to pay $130 for a problem that shouldn't even be there in the first place. Horseshit.

Note: My system isn't dead at all, i'm just sick of the fucking freezing.

More than likely scorch your problem is whats plaguing everyone else right now. Imagine a doorway to a house, now imagine a doorway that 100,000 people are all trying to get in at the same time. Wait, are you having problems downloading it or problems playing? I'm having problems downloading it, telling me it can't download the demo right now, pretty much theres too many people and the server is getting overloaded.

EDIT: Or it could be me being retarded, i didn't have enough freespace on my HD......wow just wow. Scorch try deleting some of your old demos that helped me with the freezing problem.
When did you go to bed? I kept checking last night, I know it wasn't up at 1 AM EST.
Like 3:20ish.

i beleive he's talking about it freezing while he's playing it

I was having a ton of fun till it froze in the theater. Froze when the guy is walking down the isle. Theres one guy bound and gaged in direct view on the right , and another to the main characters left also bound and gagged...ugh

Personally I liked the demo a lot! It's exactly what eveyone else has been saying. Simple and very entertaining! Can't wait 'til next week!

Yeah, clearing the hard drive of old stuff helps out with other games (Oblivion notably) so I'd try that to see if it stops freezes/etc.
Nice i'm at 35% after 25 minutes. Thanks for the heads up OP.

Please be good.
I honestly don't think they'd take a risk with releasing a demo unless they knew the game was top notch. They've got so much buzz going into this release that the game will sell well even if they didn't release a demo.

Then again, I suppose if Sega can fuck up their Full Auto release by having a demo, anything's possible.

wow, i'm downloading 1.34 MB persec nice XB live. I didn't think it could max out my connection, and thanks comcast for having a 12 mbps connection in my area :D Only been 6 min of actual download time and i'm 89% done.

I'm glad it came out in the middle of the day, had it been later in the afternoon the XBL servers would be swamped.

I know i was thinking the exact same thing.

To those of you who have been saying that it feels like it's lacking...just remember that the demo does not have the achievements to look forward to, nor does it have (or at least no one has mentioned it) the whole photography aspect of the game. With people saying the things they are about the mindless fun and the other aspects of the game, I'm looking forward to it.

Best Demo Ever. Played through it 4 times and Im still not bored! The amount of things to do is amazing. My only complaint is when using bigger items theres a short "delay" when you hit a zombie. No big deal. This is a definate buy for me.

No no, you misunderstood. It's locking up while I play. I literally took two steps forward and hit the attack button and it froze. What it does is the game locks up but the audio keeps going. The audio stops after five to ten seconds and everything is froze. This happens on Dead Rising (demo), Lost Planet (demo), Full Auto (Demo and full game), Table Tennis (demo and full game) and Far Cry (full game). It's weird. Going by the track record, the retail version of Dead Rising will do it, too.

It's not my hard drive.. I took my HD off and put it in 3 other 360's and the demos worked. It's not my system since it's not giving me the red lights. All my other games work 100%. XBLA games work 100%.

I called 18004MYXBOX this morning. I registered my system (big mistake since I could've gotten a warranty, oh well) and the lady was apparently having a case of the Mondays because she put "hotmale" instead of "hotmail" then spent 2 or 3 minutes laughing her ass off about it. Really cool lady.

Anyway, you know how I know i'm fucked? After calling two reps, they both said the same thing: "Wow, I've never heard of that before". Great. The guy in the chat over the internet even went so far as to say "You're just lucky".

So not only am I going to be unable to play a game I preordered in full, they don't know what the fuck is wrong with my system and they want me to pay $129.99 (the same price for a brand new PS2, mind you...) and send it off to them. Nevermind the fact that my console isn't broken and getting the red lights, nevermind the fact that they have no clue what's wrong, they still want to charge me $129.99 for it.

Is it a heating issue? I doubt it but I may go buy the intercooler today. Far Cry had a weird lockup. Whereas the other games just froze at whatever was currently happening, Far Cry actually split the screen in half and one side had the graphics stretched to the extreme.

Did anyone else notice that at the end of the demo, it said something like "Use your achievement points to unlock rare items from the Xbox Live Marketplace"??

Scorch, that's almost definatly a heat issue. Get an intercooler and put it on there. Also, if you have your console horizontal, put it vertical. That solved pretty much all of my heat issues.

Anyone ever find the frying pan and then set it on the oven. At that point it is scoldering hot and if you hold X he shooves it in the zombies face totally melting it.

This is how to make a demo. It gives you a taste of the gameplay, adds in some cliff hangers (first one is directly behind you at the entrance, while the other is in a movie theatre straight ahead from the start point) and even a couple of hidden goodies (such as the super hot frying pan & finding the Kattana).

At this point I super stoked about getting this game

By the by, anyone try to kill all the zombies in the demo? I got to 209 before I died.

It says "Achievements and keys downloaded from the Xbox Live Marketplace unlock rare items"

Yeah, I think those cliff hangers are 'boss' battles. I remember the one outside with the convicts from gameplay videos. As for the zombies, I got to 352 kills before the demo ended. The special attack for items are pretty awesome some of them. I was just smacking people with the hot frying pan until I accidentally did the special attack and burned the guy's face off. Awesome. After playing that demo some more I'm feeling better about this game.

That's awesome. I thought the attacking was getting slightly old, but I think having objective based missions within the environment will add a lot. And I couldn't help smiling the whole time. I want to see some reviews still, but I'm leaning towards this one. If the avg. is over 80% or so after the first 8 or 10 reviews, I'm there...

Just downloaded and played through the demo. Definately going to be a must buy game. Ill pre-order mine next time i go to Gamerush.

Great demo. Just what i wanted. Easy controls, lots of zombies, and fun ways to kill. time to preorder it somewhere.

Yea, that was it... its awesome that they are going to do something with your achievements.

Oh god, I just played through it like 3 times. So much fun just to slaughter zombies with random crap.

Some random thoughts:

Yes, the controls are super simplistic. (X to attack, Hold X to super attack.) But, it's really the variety of weapons and when to use them that add depth. Have a bajillion zombies around you? Pop out the Scythe and use the Super Attack to cut off 6+ zombies legs. Got a few slow zombies? Sledgehammer their brains off. Have a horde? Shopping Cart time!

Weapons are awesome. I found the LightSaber, which was pretty cool, but it doesn't deal damage. I like that you can use the environment to modify weapons. (The before mentioned "heat frying pan to melt faces").

I found a Super Soaker. I wonder if I can find a priest to bless the water, and actually kill zombies with it. I'm totally gonna blast random survivors with water though.

You only take damage when the zombies grab you. They'll hit you to interrupt your attacks, but you wont be harmed. Weird.

The Handgun sucks. It really really blows. Even if you pop a zombie in the head, he wont drop.

Wearing the Servbot head turns you into a super manly god.

I wonder if I can throw survivors I dont like at zombies. Humans as weapons would be awesome.

Frank does not look good in children's clothing.

I wonder if I can find a Street Fighter 2 strategy guide in the game and start busting out SF2 moves. Shoryuken on a zombie, yo.

I'm totally gonna buy this game day one.

If my years of pointless horror movie and Tv watching have taught me anything it's that that really only works on vampires...

Filling it with some kind of acid substance or modding it into a makeshift flamethrower would be totally basass.

It would work if they were biblically "End of Times"-esque zombies.

Too late to preorder, comes out/ships Tuesday.

I've played the demo for around 90 minutes and I've watched a friend play for an hour and I've really enjoyed the game. It's not a definite purchase since there's no multiplayer or anything to keep me busy (although that didn't stop me from getting Oblivion and loving it) after I've finished the single player. It's a definite rental if I don't buy it, though.

My favorite weapons have been the golf club, skateboard, sythe, and shoving ketchup bottles into mouths. Oh, and I thought there was a real lightsaber and not just just a toy sword in Dead Rising. I'm going to re-watch the trailer and see if I was wrong. And I was certainly sad to not find a tool store in the demo to try some of the monstrous weapons out. Can't wait until the full game to use those.
