Anyone know that the Time on Target pulse rifle can shoot thru a Knights shield (the black ooze shield that is). I've been able to do it before when using a heavy machine gun, but this is the 1st time I've done it with a primary.

Is this a pulse rifle thing??? Or just this specific one. Only found out since I've been working on upgrading it.

Also have Praedyth's Timepiece & the DLC Red Death, so I guess I'll need to test those out too.

BTW, also got a DLC rare sniper rifle, Civilian Applications... I mean, REALLY?!?!?! Why the hell did they go to the trouble of creating rare gear for the expansion
There were reports of being able to do that with the shields but I have yet to witness it myself.

And yeah, especially after doing the strikes for a few hours my buddy and I had so many rares. We were literally complaining that they wasted cool names and quotes on useless rares haha. Womp womp womp.

Couldn't you do it right at the beginning of the cosmodrome by going down the stairs on the left? I know it spawns a knight and at least two acolytes, but maybe three? I can't remember for sure. If it does they all get funneled through one doorway so that should make it easy.

As for the exotics, I thought the faster leveling only applied to ones you upgrade through Xur, not new ones.
Yeah, there's just 3 there. And when the Blades of Crota ritual starts, of course there are only 3 acolytes praying...

I have a bad feeling that what Bungie meant by making it "easier" is the removal of the shards/energy for the last few steps - making it only require the exotic shard. The overall time/exp is still too long. But we'll see after Xur comes tonight. If I can level an exotic armor for my Warlock I'll be able to hit 31 then (as my one Raid piece will be stuck with 2 more nodes to fill out until I can get more Radiant Shards).

BrolyB593 said:
But yeah last night I ended up doing strikes with my buddy for a couple hours on the new playlist and I got quite a bit. I found out however that you can get a legendary from the Cryptarch... and it can still be an old one.
Yep, same thing happened to me. And I think it was the legendary engram from upgrading the Cryptarch even. So he can now troll you in new ways - yay! On the other hand, I have gotten TWO legendary boot engrams on my Warlock and BOTH ended up being the new Vanguard boots. That's great and all but I had already bought the boots earlier (and have since maxed them). Why couldn't at least one have been chest or helm or even for my Hunter!?

For my Titan I may have to grind out more marks and buy the chest piece if I want to hit 31 any time soon. That new exotic helm is just taking forever.

CaseX said:
I think It should spawn you right after the Gatekeepers. We wiped on purpose a few times to get that chest behind the closing door and it spawned us right back outside that corridor.

There are always 3 hives down there. I think the second (?) Eris mission (the Rasputin one) might be a good one to try. There are multiple waves of at least 6 thralls that charge at you in the beginning. I'll give that a go later today.
Nice, thanks. Well, I'll try going in with my Hunter to see if I can sneak past and grab it. I think I only need two more radiant shards for another node on my Warlock armor.

And yeah, I got 4 of the heavy kills done on that mission. In fact, I got two of them on one shot (I must have killed 8). Unfortunately the first group that comes at you is just 3 thralls. But then you want to line up the next group as they make their way through the other enemies about half way down the corridor. That's when I got the double-bounty kills.

They could easily code it that it will track if you have beaten that checkpoint though. Just like they know you have completed a checkpoint and gotten a reward or not already, they could do the same with the Deathsinger part just have done minor tweaking so that it is an additive thing. I would imagine they would not overlook something like that if this whole thing is true anyway.
But Deathsinger is such a pain in the ass, I don't see the point of double checkpoint rewards after Crota. It's not like people are just going to go in and do Deathsinger (unless some cheese method is discovered). On the other hand, Deathsinger is such a quick section (since it is time-limited to, what, 3 minutes?) that maybe they felt like that was too short for rewards despite what a pain it is. And I imagine it will get much easier as people hit 31-32.

But Bungie probably wasn't anticipating the cheesing in the VoG and so I would totally understand if they did it just as a precaution IN CASE there is a method found haha.

So I know someone listed it as a potential reward, but has anyone actually seen a helm pulled from the Raid so far? I really want to know by tonight as that will help determine what I do with Xur resets...

Oh and by the way, I was able to do the double-bounty trick on Eris bounties with my Warlock. I did the RL kills and one other one twice, and I have the warmind one to do again this evening. That still only puts me at like 1 1/3. I need to get to 3, I think, to be able to trade my radiant energy for shards.

By the way, on the Warmind (Rasputin) one, I found a good spot. It gets pretty intense on level 30, especially if you are solo. But if you jump onto the diamond-shaped door to the right of the console that you have to check out before the enemies spawn, there is an invisible wall that shields you from most of the attacks. Things can still get you from the side, though, so watch that. You can jump and shoot "over" the invisible barrier.

I thought Bungie SAID it was a possible reward, but I am not sure. I am going to prioritize Exotic Helms either way solely because even if it IS possible, clearly it is very hard to get comparatively with the others seeing as we haven't seen it.

The Hard Fall bounty (heavy kills) is easily done on the "Dark Beyond" story (we've woken the hive segment). Should only take one reload and less than 2 minutes (not counting the cutscene you have to watch).

edit: you don't even need to reload if you have the g-horn ;)

Exotic helms are my priority to upgrade to 2.0 since helms are also the most expensive vendor armor to purchase. Id rather upgrade my existing ones than use vanguard marks to purchase them

Cheese method for Gatekeepers:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJoNoNexcsw&feature=youtu.be

The key is to have everyone die and then a Warlock self-res as the timer runs out. Then you just snipe everything in the other side.

I'm trying to keep up with the thread, but I didn't see any mention of the first chest solo trick in the new raid. I did it last night. Basically, you enter the hell mouth and once down there, there is a room to the left. If there is an orange light above, there's a chest. You just keep wiping until the lights on. I got two radiant shards from it, but it can give armor and other good stuff.

yep, there are 3 rooms actually ;)

alternatively you can do it with a party of two where one person runs ahead and distracts the hive

I've had some guns shoot through shields... I think. At the time I just thought it was lag. I may have to pay closer attention.

I'd like to do this on my Titan to see if I can snag a couple of radiant shards to upgrade my Warlock armor. If anyone is around tonight we can give the 2-person method a shot. Also, I have the post-Gatekeepers checkpoint on my Hunter. I am going to try to get the second chest if anyone wants to help try that as well.

Now I've also seen reference to being able to solo the entire first section as well as the Gatekeeper section in order to get the checkpoint rewards.

I've got 3 maxed pieces of new vanguard armor, 10 completed bounties waiting to be cashed, every kind of telemetry, 50+ strange coins, 30+ motes. Unless Xur is a total dick, I should be raid ready tomorrow night. Tomorrow is my anniversary though, so we'll see if I make it on. It's not one that ends in a 0 or a 5, so it's not that big a deal, right?

Nope. We had #21 this year - barely even acknowledged it ;).

Xur-bina, Warrior Princess is here to save the day!

Center, next to the 1/4master

Too much stuff to list but most relevant... only one DLC exotic for sale  :wall: ... Ruin Wings for titans

Exotic engrams are back - helmet engram

exotic weapon - truth

Urn of Sacrifice - if you have the Eris mission/bounty

12 old exotics available for upgrade: 6 armors, 6 weapons.  Here's the kicker... glimmer cost varies from 7200-7800 per item.

Notables: ice breaker, suros, thorn, last word, 3rd man, armamentarium, sunbreakers

No heavy ammo   :shame:

EDIT:  if you have dups of gear that you'll upgrade, pay attention to the stats.  The upgraded stats should be the same for either piece.  For example, I have 2 armamentariums with dif levels of discipline but the upgraded Dis stat was the same for either one (so I upgraded the one with the lower level).

I know - I was an idiot and converted the Warlock helm that I had maxed instead of the one I got later with better stats. And I would have gotten better stuff from dismantling the maxed one. Total fail...

I got a couple of engrams though and while I got a duplicate Saint-41 Titan helm (which I just got from the Nightfall) I also got the new Hunter helm (with all the eyes). So that's cool. At least now a duplicate engram is good for an exotic shard. So that's like trading the 23 motes for 7 coins...

I've been trying to do Eris bounties and the new Urn stuff (which involves killing thralls in different ways so far - multiple steps). It does seem that the upgraded exotics do level faster. My Icebreaker and Helm have already gone through a couple of nodes and I haven't done all that much.

My "hard mode" Raid group (minus a few key people) was trying Crota again and I invited first Glock and then Rad in when we tried it after Xur. We never got far with it but at least you guys know what to expect now and can see what I mean when I say you need to be 31. You just do so much more damage to everything there.

It also appears that we will end up with specialists in dealing sword damage to Crota (since that is the only way to hurt him). Hopefully they won't change that in 2 months and make it so that a random person has to do that ;).

Definitely pay attention to the stat rolls on the upgrades. For example the sunbreakers are absurdly low while the armamentium is on the high side.

Ok, so I think I'm understanding you guys correctly, but let's just pretend I'm in grade school.... If you upgrade armor with, say +70 Intellect and +70 Discipline, will Xur give you back a piece of armor with greater light potential (+36), greater defense potential (?), AND +70 Int and +70 Disc? Or could the "70" numbers change? And the potential high end of your defense rating does go up, I assume? Thanks in advance.

Now I've also seen reference to being able to solo the entire first section as well as the Gatekeeper section in order to get the checkpoint rewards.
Also, if you find a link on how to solo the gatekeepers, could you please share that? I was able to solo the first part as a Titan before seeing any guides. Use Saints 14 helm and you can easily hold down the end, where you form the bridge. Not sure how it's possible to solo gatekeepers though... how would you even form the bridge???

Edit: soloing gatekeepers. Found one possible strategy here: http://www.bungie.net/sr/Forum/Post/83331304/0/0

Not sure how to link to exact post, but search for Bambino. Looks like you have to be a bladedancer.

Found a strategy where they did it with only two level 30s. Saw a similar stream on twitch last night. Fair warning to anybody, there are raid spoilers (obviously) if you don't want to know anything about Crota: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/83698898/0/0

What? The upgrade option has a set roll so you are going to get that roll. If your current sunbreakers have 120 intellect and you choose to upgrade today, you will get the 80 intellect "upgrade" Xur is offering.

I stayed up until 3am to see what Xur had. It was like waiting for Christmas morning as a kid hahah.

My haul so far from him last night...

- 3 Exotic Helmet Engrams
+ Mask of the Third Man (Hunter)
   + Helm of Saint-14 (Titan)
   + An Insurmountable Skullfort (Titan)
- Voidfang Vestements (Warlock Chest)
- Achlyophage Symbiote (Hunter Helmet)
- Ruin Wings (Titan Arms)
- Upgraded IceBreaker
- Upgraded The Last Word
- Upgraded Light Beyond Nemesis (Warlock Helmet)
- MISC, Urns and telemetries

But yeah I REALLY wanted to upgrade my Sunbreakers but right now I have Raid legs and arms for my Warlock and so naturally I made sure to get an Exotic Chest and Helmet. If I get a huge excess of glimmer I may still upgrade Sunbreakers but I think realistically I am going to hold off for now. So now for my Warlock I just need the Raid chest or Helmet and an excess of Radiant Shards and I will have that at max level.

My Hunter has all level 31 Vanguard gear right now and so having the two helmets is nice so that I can easily swap between Gunslinger and Bladedancer and still have all of my normal benefits.

My Titan has just old level 29 Vanguard gear since I made her right before the DLC and didnt bother doing much beyond getting her to 20. Now though I can have a Helmet or Arms for her and easily boost her to level 30 to Raid with.

In regards to the weapons I was tempted to upgrade Suros as well for PvP but I decided against it for now. I have my Hard Light maxed at 331 now so if I need an Auto Rifle I have that for now. I am excited for the new IceBreaker and with another Iron Banner around the corner I had to get my Last Word upgraded too! I also am wishing I could upgrade my Hunter arms too but I think I will pass and just hope I can get Don't Touch me somehow soon.

I got super lucky though and also picked up the Thorn bounty again and so I was able to dismantle my old one and now just work to getting myself a powered up one. I also scored Bad Juju and Invective bounties between my characters and had saved up my Pocket Infinity until just now and so I have quite a large handful of new high level Exotics which I am pretty stoked about.

There is literally just SO much to do and level up now I am not sure where to even start! I literally am trying to think of a game plan here at work of what I will do haha I am going to do the Urn bounties first because my buddy said you need Xur still after you complete that first one and then I am going to turn my attention to my Hunter and IceBreaker so that I can have her ready to run the raid at 31+. Hopefully from that Raid I can get more shards and use them to level up my Warlock to 31 and be more effective at my Crota checkpoint on that character. Plus I have to just pretty much level everything with my Titan now hahah

Goodbye any weekend plans!

That's dumb, Bungie. So it's not really an "upgrade" of your existing armor. You're basically trading in old gear, for new gear. That is so dumb. So I take my AWD SUV into the shop to upgrade the windows with tint and UV protection, and instead I drive out with a 2WD SUV. Okkaaaaayyy, Bungie.... (I enjoy this game still, but I am so flabbergasted at some of Bungie's decisions lately....)

It's pretty much a weekly slot machine

If you don't need to upgrade an armor piece right away you can also just wait for a better version on sale. If you are buying the upgraded version vs upgrading it will be cheaper ideally for armor ;)

You pay 13 coins for the new version and get a shard out of your old to max it with

vs.

Buying 2 shards (14 coins) and paying 7-8k glimmer to upgrade and max

Of course it's the immediate gratification of having more light and being raid ready that affects purchase decisions

Yup.

Definitely better to buy one with Coins if possible. The Warlock Helmet I ended up upgrading actually had a noticeably better roll than my old one. Guess it is best I didnt do Sunbreakers then if it is a crappy roll. I can sit on it for a while.

I was expecting to be out of Strange Coins after Xur came but I bought a ton and still have plenty left. I am thinking of buying Truth just because I can as well as some more Shards haha

That's where I am right now. No upgrade for voidfang vestments, but he is selling it so I could scrap my old ones and buy the new... I may buy some exotic helm engrams and see if I get lucky and if I don't then I will just buy the vestments. And upgrade my suros, of course, because I would be crazy not to. Iron banner is coming!

Speaking of: anybody planning on playing IB and want to team up? I solo'd the last one, but it is much better with people you know. I'm not amazing, but I can hold my own.

definitely depends on the loot table ;)

last time i did it because it helped me hit 30, but there are so many ways to get to 31 now it wont be as exciting. maybe for some new shaders, but my current one makes me look like batman

Yeah I know I was thinking about that too. I really have no use for level 31 gear except maybe for my Titan right now but by the time IB comes around I wont.

I will play Iron Banner simply because it is fun but in terms of busting my butt for the rank I suppose it falls on the weapons and shaders and perhaps the ship drop.

Well overall it's cool that they started exotics post upgrade at 30 light, addresses some of the complaints people had.

Also saw mentioned on reddit that upgraded weapons have 15% bonus exp gain while armor is much lower

Yea, thanks for inviting me to that. I think the most we dropped him was 10%. Did you ever get any further? Do you just keep repeating that same sequence with the swordbearer over and over until you drop him? I kept waiting for something like Time's Vengance to kick in where damage would go through the roof, lol. I have to say I don't like the idea of only one guy having to solo Crota. The fun thing about VoG was that everyone had to work together since anyone could go through the portals so everyone had to know how to do every role. Even if a couple people wiped you could still make it work. This seems like everyone else is just there for support while we hope the level 31 can kill crota. Speaking of hitting level 31.

If you get the 33 light gauntlets from Eris for turning in the Urn from Xur then you only need to max one other 33 piece and an exotic and you are 31. If you play this game a lot you should be there in no time. It actually seems the better path since the raid drops still seem few and far between and even if you get them you probably won't have enough radiant shards to max them out anyways.

I think it is funny how you can hit light 31 4 days after the DLC hits with almost no effort. And it is not just available to the people who got stuck at 29 due to Notorious R.N.G., but anyone who was able to level into the 20s can hit 30 and 31 pretty easily now. Now tell me why did I keep running VoG so many times? lol

I thought there was supposed to be gear to get to 32 in iron banner. That's why I was planning on it. The raid has always hated me so I may as well try to get a head start.
Edit: just looked up an article on Game Informer. Why have an event handing out gear I could get from vanguards anyway? That's ridiculous.

I told you it was 31 like a week ago ;)

You are overreacting here - having an event handing out gear you could get from a raid that just launched is what would be ridiculous. Would likely take another couple of months to get to that point.

Plus as of right now level 32 is locked to people who bought the DLC specifically. If you could get it from IB then that would change that whole thing around.

Like I said at least maybe they will have some solid weapons or shaders this time around. Or if they have different armor at all perhaps it has some nice effects for when playing Crucible, when you level does't matter.

Dammit - the only gear I bought for my Hunter was the Vanguard gloves. Now you get those from the Urn thing?

Also, where's the best place to melee exploding thralls? I did a couple in the Warmind mission but at level 25 they can still kill you and I got killed once after getting like 3 and then it reset and I only ended up with 2/5 by the end of the mission. (That is a great place to use Murmur to get the 3 rapid special weapon kills bounty though - on the thralls at the beginning).

Glock - we didn't get much further than when you were there. I really want to be 31 before trying it again so it doesn't take 3 Icebreaker headshot to take out just one of those Knights.

Does the exotic engram have a chance to give an old exotic? If so, does it at least start at light level 30?
Yes, I mentioned earlier that I got a Saint-41 helm from it after just getting one in the Nightfall. Both were the upgraded versions.

I also got the new Hunter helm from an engram - the one with all the eyes.

I think the one I saw might have been as a Warlock. I'll look again.

I'll also have to look for a video about getting the second chest solo. I tried it last night and I kept hitting invisible walls where the shriekers were. I could run past the thralls but then as I was jumping at that point it just made me go straight down into the horde and I couldn't move forward any more.

I have that checkpoint if anyone wants to figure it out with me.

I need ONE freaking radiant shard to hit the second node on my Warlock chest piece from the Raid.

So far from Xur I upgraded Light Beyond Nemesis for my Warlock so I can try to get to 31 faster. I also did an Icebreaker, which as sort of a no-brainer. I have enough Glimmer for one more. I'm trying to decide between Thunderlord, which I never really used, Last Word (ditto), and Armamentarium. I'm using the new Saint-41 helm for my Titan that I just got. But upgrading that has been painfully slow. Plus it seems like you want that in the Raid. Eventually (once I get a Raid helm) I'd want Armamentarium back again but that might be a while.

Hm, I am curious about that second chest as well. I planned on testing it out myself this weekend but if you find anything please share (as if you wouldn't anyway hah) If I see you trying it out I may join you later tonight!

We literally ran into that invisible wall last night  .

Had a hunter go stealth and sneak up to the front. We would then kill the shrieker but he would get stuck and we kept missing the door.

I'm wondering if the problem comes from him being too far in front. We're gonna try next with him closer to the position of the 1st shrieker.

"Also, where's the best place to melee exploding thralls?"

Nightfall ;)
Too high a level = insta-death. I was thinking somewhere that they were level 12 or something. I know the damage scales and all that, but it is better that they be at least a few levels lower than you I think, right?
I told you it was 31 like a week ago ;)

You are overreacting here - having an event handing out gear you could get from a raid that just launched is what would be ridiculous. Would likely take another couple of months to get to that point.
I'm not trying to make it sound like "ahh, I can't believe they'd do this!" /ragequit

I just assumed from the way bungie was talking that the iron banner would be the way to reach max level for players who play PVP or don't raid. I thought they had said they wanted more avenues to reach that high level.

And I forget things when it comes to destiny because it seems like I get contradictory information all over the place. :p maybe I'll just start recording our conversations. ;-)
