I feel pretty dorky about it, but I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve. I might get up at 4am to get 3 hours in before work tomorrow. Hopefully quickly get some titan arms from the Vangaard and try to hit 30 before raiding. Not quite sure how the commendations work, but hopefully the bounties I have saved get me one when I up my rep.
Ran my first raid with my minty fresh warlock; normal (I'm still 26 afterall). Sucks how much you get nerfed.
I was using my maxed weapons but Ice Breaker could only manage about 7k crits on Atheon. The praetorian on Venus needed about 4 IB shots just to knock out the void shield.
Anyway, couldn't finish him off. We were one 30, three 27's and two 26's. I was one of two warlocks and the rest were hunters... zero titans (uh oh). Two of the 27's were running the raid for the first time.
Now to see if I can get another shot before the reset.
And yeah I have a ton of bounties saved up and will finish more tonight probably. I have my Warlock and Hunter at 30 though my Warlock will be the Raid guinea pig since she is far better suited to PvE. I quite leveling my Titan I started a couple weeks ago since whatever I do now will be pointless and I will just wait and get the new Vanguard armor and stuff after the DLC drops.
Speaking of bounties, can anyone confirm if you earn vanguard reputation when you complete a bounty??? Or is only when you turn in a bounty.
I have both of my toons sitting on the edge of ranking up (one needs 5 and the other needs 14). I don't want to do anything that'll rank up my Vanguard rep until the DLC activates.

Some interesting things can be gleaned about the Raid from the Raid armor bonuses. It looks like we get something similar to "Time's Vengeance" with this "Oversouls Gaze". During that time there are various bonuses for the Raid armor (increased damage and reload speed for example).
Also, not surprising at all, but it looks like we'll be picking up Hive swords. I wonder if this is just in specific parts like the Relic or more "random" in that we'll find swords all over the place from normal enemies.
We still don't know which armor items are available from Normal vs. Hard, though, do we? Hopefully that will be figured out in the first day or two then we'll know which exotics to upgrade by the time Xur gets here. I'm not too impressed with any of the new exotics with the exception of the Hunter ones - I like ALL three of those! Since I'm not crazy about any of the current Hunter exotics I'll be looking for one of those. But depending on what Raid armor we can't get from Normal mode, it looks like I'll be sticking with Armamentarium and Sunbreakers for my others two characters though.

You only gain the rep when you turn in the bounty.
But you do gain rep when doing patrol missions so be careful if that is the bounty.
Also, I just found out my son has basketball practice from 7:30 - 9:00 Pacific tomorrow. Hopefully I can get in on the Raid tonight for sure. I was hoping to give you guys some "inside" info for the CAG run Tuesday night. If you can wait until 9:30 or so I can still run it then. Alternatively, I could maybe do it really early (like 4:30 or so) but would have to bail by 6:30.
Thanks, I noticed the rep for patrols since I was knocking those out to make room for the 5k bounties. That's how I noticed my Vanguard rep was sooo close to turning over. Pretty much stopped all activities on those two in order to make sure I didn't earn more rep.
Worked out though, since it freed up time for me to get my 'lock leveled up. I now have the joy of running 3 toons like the rest of you.
You get a small amount (10-25) when you do patrols so make sure not to do any. Or equip a class item from one of the factions so the rep gain goes towards that instead of vanguard.
So no Xur until Friday so we won't be able to upgrade any old exotics until then. What is everyone going to do once this drops? Check out the new gear for sale, run nightfall then run raid and hope to get an exotic or raid armor to upgrade?
That hotfix article does indicate that the update will up 'available for download' at 1am pst tonight so I wonder how large the file will be, or if that is what they pushed out already today. Either way I'm sure there will be a lizard/newt/gecko/marionberry attack scheduled for that time.

I did play last night (2-4 AM or so) and there was no update then. Is there one now? Even if it is small, I want to be sure I get it before the turnover tonight.
I have my 'lock loaded up with all my maxed out Raid weapons. I have no idea what will be good to use in the new Raid but I should be covered no matter what.
Son of a bitch. This whole time I was thinking it was 1am eastern. Like I read Pacific but just spaced and figured it was the same as all of the digital games lately which have been like midnight EASTERN. Bah. I just had a group of friends all together and now I realized it is freaking 3am here for it. ugh stupid me and stupid California.

Since they aren't giving us ANY primary weapon drops on normal maybe all of the armor will be available in Normal. Plus since Hard will be 33 and the new armor only goes up to 32 that would make sense that we would be able to hit 32 BEFORE attempting the Hard Raid since we are still going to be outleveled even then.

Heh - at least it is better now than before the time change. It used to be 2am. And I suppose it will go back to 2am in March or whenever the clocks change again. 2am is a little late to get started even for me but otherwise the late night change is perfect for my 11pm-5am gaming habit... I'm a little worried that we'll go past 6 tomorrow though. When I first ran hard mode with that other group we were still at it then and if I'm still gaming when my wife and kids get up I get in serious trouble . So, yeah, I'll have to cap it at 5:30 or so unless we are just on the verge of completing it.
Plus I am actually really busy with work this week. Between work, Destiny, and my son's basketball (not to mention normal family stuff) I guess sleep will be the one thing that goes out the window...
^^^when I fired up destiny an hour ago there was an update waiting. Rewards are the same, but all the difficulty levels have increased (which is fair since you'll be able to buy your way to 30 starting tomorrow).
TBH, it's annoying that they bumped the level but kept the rewards the same.
Even if you're buying the 30 gear, it'll take a bit to hit 30... what with the new commendation requirement and just gaining the xp to increase the gear.
Just more paper walls to get to the same place we were already at :???:
Just did daily on 30. Didn't seem any harder than 28. Have 200 Vangaard marks and all my bounties ready to turn in, bring on The Dark!
Also, I'm thinking of quitting my job and flipping Amiibo full time, lol.
I just did it. Didn't even realize it was 30 until I read this now...
I did not know that. I will definitely start off with that and see how it goes. It tends to run out of ammo a bit quickly, but it also has the higher damage (323) right now vs. 300 for everything else. I'm not sure that I noticed it ignored shields though. That did not seem to be the case with the previous Nightfall where I couldn't use it to take down the Wizards and Knights in the very beginning.
Surprise #2:
Any of the raid weapons that have been upgraded to have the Oracle Disrupter perk will allow you to shoot through a Knight’s Wall of Darkness shield.
That says the new regular legendaries have a higher max light rating than even the current Raid gear! I thought they would just bring you to 30. But no, it appears they will bring you to 31 (without even needing an exotic).
Wow, that does kind of suck because it made all that work for Raid armor even more worthless in the end. I thought they were just going to match that gear - not exceed it!

I will definitely be keeping an eye on it to see if this is the case. If so, I might just use Fatebringer or Vision of Confluence.

I tested the Mythoclast the other day and it was not ignoring any shields for me. Same goes for the VoC going through the Darkness shields. Perhaps these are to be only Crota's End only perks because I have not seen it at all.
While talking about the Vex I just still can't get behind it. After using it after the patch bringing it to 323 I still dislike it. Range and accuracy is pretty low for a primary and this wouldnt be AS big of a problem if you could just hold more ammo. Its really small ammo reserves are what hold this back the most for me. I constantly kept finding myself all over the place for ammo. I switched back to VoC (PvE) and yes I noticed it took longer to kill an enemy by a small amount but I was able to more comfortably do so from a distance and not have to worry about ammo. I will of course take it with on the Raid tonight and see how it fares but I am not too confident. Same goes with PvP by the way, just not a fan still.
In regards to that Legendary gear now getting you to 31... that is complete and utter BS. I really hope that they have the wrong info because like you said that makes our Raid gear COMPLETELY obsolete.

On my Titan, sure (though it was only for 3-4 weeks, not "months"). But for my other characters, no...
I kept running VoG on my Hunter to get that last piece to hit 30 and just did so last week, then spent time leveling it up. I wouldn't have bothered if I could just buy 31 armor a week later. COMPLETE waste of time considering some of the jackasses I had to run it with (talking about the randoms - not you guys ). In particular, it takes away the sense of achievement of getting those hard mode helms. I mean, even if they were equal, I'd at least be able to show off my Vex helm. But now I'll have to buy one if I don't get a new Raid helm or mine will be worse than what people can just stroll up to a vendor and buy.
We'll see though - I think they were wrong about the Mythoclast and Raid weapons so maybe they are wrong about that as well. Everything else I've read seems to imply the new Vanguard, etc gear will get you to 30, not 31.

Yeah, sure. If the CAG group doesn't do it really early, then I'm out until 9:30 Pacific or so. Depending on what time zone you are talking about that might work out.

Heh - There's a chance that other group won't invite me since I'm sort of just their alternate and they might have everyone for the first run. If it seems like I'm doing nothing and you need another, please send me an invite .
I could just jump in with randoms, but I've had less than stellar experiences with that.
I really don't think you should attach too much achievement to loot that you are getting from RNG. It's nice but did someone who got the full set really achieve more than someone who ran the raid the same amount of times and only found half?
From my perspective, achievements are things like beating the raid under an hour, soloing the nightfall, getting that 5 man kill in the crucible with a voidwalker spirit bomb - things that show the hours you put into the game through gained gameplay mechanics. With how much cheesing went on and all these 30s who have no idea what they are actually doing I feel like the number 30 is just a number.
But that's just me
If there are multiple ways to get to 30/31 that just means our characters will finally stop looking the same
Man oh man, the Titan Vanguard has some sick new gear! I bought some sweet, furry gauntlets, LOL. I can't get the helmet or chest piece until I get a vanguard commendation though.
You don't need to complete that quest to unlock the nightfall and weekly. Just grab the other bounties/quests (heart of crota, hand of crota, and one more something of crota) -- complete those and the nightfall will unlock. It's not dependent on Xur at all.
1) Enemies start at 31, and are 32 about half way through.
2) I would really suggest getting the new gear and getting to 31 first (which is confirmed by a visit to the Vangaurd armory).
3) We quit at Crota because, well, my kids are getting up now...
4) Crota keeps your health from regenerating - the bastard.
Being level 29 and 30 and having level 32 enemies is a real bitch. I'm sure it will be much easier when people get to 31/32.
We found one chest in the beginning and I got 3 radiant energy. I think I got more from another checkpoint where others got gloves and boots. And I did get the chest armor from another checkpoint. So for sure everything but the helm can be obtained from the Raid. Everybody but one guy got some armor.
I stopped reading because I didn't want any spoilers. The normal raid enemies START at 31?!?! WTF. I don't even want to know what level the final enemies will be at end of the hard raid now.... lol.
LOL @ the perpetual Destiny hate-fest over on NeoGAF... So easy to pick out the posts from people who don't own it and have never played it, but try to act like they know.

What is the max light level of the new raid gear?
If anyone completes the raid before Friday, can you please provide a quick, spoiler free post letting us know how many chests you found? For example, simply state 1 chest right after first checkpoint, 2 chests after second boss fight, etc. Something informative, but still vague enough to be spoiler free. That would be helpful so those us going in blind on purpose won't miss out on the chests. Thanks!

You can buy light 33 boots and gloves from the vendors without commendations so that gets you to 31 with just your maxed exotic or a max raid piece. You need a full set of raid/exotic to hit 32, just like hitting 30 before.
What do people that did not buy the dlc get access to? The new exotics, the ability to upgrade old exotics and the new vendor gear only?
The lack of achievements is really irritating to me. A $20 dlc with 3 missions, 1 strike and 1 raid and they can't even throw a simple set of achievements onto it. I know that people who chase achievements are a smaller subset of the community, but achievements sell. I wonder if they held achievements out to see how the dlc sells without them and possibly add them later, sort of like EA did with Titanfall. Considering many people redeemed codes from the LE and Ghost versions of the game, along with pre-orders they probably had a pretty good grasp of what the install base was. I don't see this DLC as something that people will just buy randomly, since you had to have been playing the game pretty actively just to be in a position to take advantage of the expansion.
I tried a few of my stocked purple engrams and they're still redeeming for 30 light and 300 attack. Did they lock it out depending on when you got them? Or is it because I don't have the DLC?

Well, crap, I had no idea you could just buy those two pieces. It seemed when I went there it wouldn't let me but I was sort of in a hurry since we were about to Raid.
So, now, Gotdott, the original Raid gear is actually utterly useless. I'm more upset about this than the exotic reset. At least with that there is a path forward. Having the Raid start at 30 and have 31/32 enemies in it pretty much makes the original Raid gear useless even as a starting point. The entire Vault of Glass, really, was pointless in terms of progression. You just need to go buy all the new stuff anyway.
That group I was in last night is going to try to finish it tonight but I feel like I need to try to get that gear and level it up (along with the chest armor I did get in the Raid) before then. Being 31 will make life so much easier.
Oh yeah, and I can confirm that the Vex Mythoclast does NOT ignore shields and the original Raid weapons do NOT penetrate Knight shields. So that was some BS there on that other site.

I'm up for this, and I'm good with making it an early run since my son has an insane time for the first game of a basketball tourney on Saturday. His two games are at 8:00 AM and 9:15 AM. That scheduler needs to be fed to the Oversoul.
OK, here is my more in-depth Raid summary:
General (spoiler-free) notes:
- As I said before, enemies are 31 in the first part and 32 later. The ones in the very beginning might have been 30, I forget. The point is you won't get too far as a party of 30's. 28 is absolutely useless and 29 is mostly useless. Get yourself at least to 30 and preferably 31 before even trying it.
- Once people get to higher level and the mechanics (and tricks) are figured out, this Raid will probably end up being easier than VoG and maybe the flawless achievement will be possible. There is nothing like the Gorgons or jumping section in this Raid - hell yeahs...
- We got boots, gloves, and chest armor from the pre-boss checkpoints. So all the armor minus the helm is confirmed for Normal mode. Everyone except one guy got at least one piece. I got the chest armor for my Warlock.
- Assuming where we got last night (Crota) is the end, this Raid is shorter than VoG with less reward points. We only found one chest, though I'm sure there are more. But more importantly, there were only TWO checkpoints with rewards up till that final fight. The super-tough lead-up to the boss gave us no rewards at all. This is similar to the conflux portion not giving rewards in VoG, except think of this more like the Gatekeeper phase (just pre-Atheon).
CaseX - the only chest we found was right in the beginning. I think it was off to the left of the main "path" (which will be clear once you play) and I think it was behind a door that opens when you get to it though I'm not 100% sure since the others found it first. Edit: From reading other forums, apparently there are two chests that randomly spawn in different places in this area - both behind doors though I guess.
Found this on Bungie's forums:
SECRET 2: IN THE SECOND AREA AFTER THE FIRST BRIDGE, TAKING OUT YOUR GHOST OPENS LOCKED DOORS. (This would be for another (third and final?) chest I assume - does not seem to be confirmed by anyone else though).
Spoiler-full write-up. We'll see how close my recollection comes to what others have found. I am writing this up after getting some sleep and having not read anything else about the Raid:
Part 1: The Beginning
Unlike Vault of Glass, you do not need to trigger anything in a public area to get the Raid to open up. You get put right into a special area from launch and you simply jump down a hole (as shown in the Trailer) to start it up.
Part 2: Swarms of Thralls
Once you are down there you land on a small glowing circle. These become very important later so keep those in mind. You will notice that as you move away from the circle you get the "red mist" above your head like when you were marked in the VoG. Then you'll notice some words ("Weight of Darkness"). The more important thing is that you will also see a multiplier. It goes from x1 to x10 max. The higher the multiplier the more burdened (or slowed) you get. You cannot jump when it hits a certain point too.
As you move forward you will get swarmed by Thralls. This part isn't too bad since they are pretty easy to kill. I scored 99 kills (next person in my group had like 60) in this part using Fatebringer which is awesome here. They often clump up so one headshot can taker out 4 or 5.
You will notice cylindrical lights up ahead. You want to head for those. As you get to each one, your "burden" decreases, just like with the original circle you started on. However, if you stay by them too long they explode!
The first chest is off to the left near the 1st or 2nd cylinder - I forget exactly where. The rewards here were 2 radiant energy or shards for everyone. I think one person might have gotten a Thunderlord though as well so this might be like the chest before the Gorgons in VoG.
You continue to head from cylinder to cylinder fighting thralls. Oh yeah., there are lots of insta-kill pits around as well that you have to avoid. And the thralls will push you into them as well.
Eventually you get to an area that clearly looks different and you will be able to move on to the next part of the Raid. I think we got rewards here. I think some people got gloves and boots but all I got was 3 radiant energy. This part is slightly akin to the Gorgon maze in that you do have to find your way out. But it is much easier as it is more open and you can follow the cylinders (though there may have been a few extras). Once people have been through here a few times it will probably be super-easy though.
Edit: I forgot that at the end of this you all need to stand in a circle to build a bridge and then escape across that. There are Ogres that spawn here. I saw this on another forum - had totally forgotten this part!
After another small drop, we get to:
Part 3: The Bridge
Here you are instructed to build the bridge and we really had no clue what was going on at first. But as I said a few days ago, being familiar with how these Raids work really helped us eventually here.
There is a big circle at the foot of the bridge and it became obvious that you stand there to trigger the bridge formation. When you do that, enemies start coming in three waves: thralls, acolytes, and knights. These are definitely level 31, though none are shielded or ultra (yet).
The problem is that if you just stand in the circle the screen starts turning red, the game tells you something about "totems" and you all wipe within seconds. Eventually we figured that there were these two crystals that activate when you step in the circle.
What is below these two crystals? Yep, one of those circle things. So they seem to like to have us step inside circles and defend them in this game. If you put at least one person in each of the two smaller crystal circles and the rest in the main circle, you don't get wiped.
That's great - but then what? After not too long you get a message saying the bridge is fully formed. So great, we rush across - and all die. WTF!? So it took even longer to realize that we needed to kill the Swordbearer (who is an ultra with yellow health bar) and take his sword. Like with the Blades of Crota on Earth it only lasts a short time though. The person with the sword (and ONLY that person) can cross the bridge. OK, but if you abandon any of the 3 circles the bridge starts to disappear.
Once on the other side, there are special Knights called Gatekeepers. They are immune to all damage except the sword, which by the time you get over there, is ready to go away. For the most part we could not kill any of them but that turns out to be OK. I would imagine if you were level 31 or 32 you'd be able to take them out no problem. But regardless, once over there you can hide on pillars and they won't attack you.
So you have to repeat this for two more people which of course gets harder and harder as there are fewer to defend the 3 spots. Once 3 people are across, they need to DO THE SAME THING on the other side to get the last 3 people over. So they stand on the middle circle over there as well as under two more crystals. The good thing is the Gatekeepers do not attack the people in the two side circles. There are thralls and such that will though. We had a Titan with the bubble shield pop that over the middle circle (where the Gatekeepers will attack). Without that it would have been impossible.
At this point the people on the first side don't need to stay under their crystals. They can hide on some platforms and just snipe stuff below. They do have to kill the Swordbearer 3 times once the 3 on the other side build the bridge and go across one-by-one.
Once 4-5 people are over on the other side, some solar shield Wizards show up and they will shoot you under the crystals. Once the 6th is over, two Ogres will spawn. At this point, though, you are done with the bridge and could probably retreat to a corner as a group and take everything out. At some point the door opens and you can move on.
Part 4: The Fun Part
I forget if you get the next set of Rewards when the door opens or after this part. This is where I got the chest armor though. Here you just move through a long tunnel and get to slaughter tons of Hive that rush at you from straight ahead. There are some Shriekers too. But this part is fun because it is pretty easy and you just get to massacre them. I made a clip of this part if you want to check out my activity.
Part 5: The Hidden Wizard
So after that part there is a small drop into a puddle of muck. Ahead you see two sword-carrying Knights. There are tons more behind them. This is where you will fight Crota but you have to summon him first. There is a Wizard up above where you start but he is behind a force barrier.
You can try to take out the level 32 Ultra Knights (some with swords, some that lob Arc damage at you). But after what seemed like 3 minutes, you will get "Deathsinger's Song" and once that triggers you have 30 seconds until you wipe. With level 29/30 people you have no chance to clear out the Knights before that happens.
After several wipes we decided to bum rush up to one side or the other. On each side is a shielded Ultra Wizard and a Shrieker. Once you kill the Wizard, you can then kill the Shrieker. Once you do that on BOTH sides, the barrier comes down and you can kill the Wizard in the middle.
This section was a pain in the ass and gave NO REWARDS. That really sucked.
Eventually we found that you could draw out each Wizard instead of charging in and trying to kill it while 3-6 Knights also try to kill you. You can keep some people in the upper back part (where there is sort of a broken bridge thing) to draw them out.
Part 5: Crota
Once you kill that middle Wizard, you have to clear the Knights and such out of the immediate room you are in. However, the ones outside (which might actually respawn) don't come in there. Once you all crowd around the crystal, Crota will spawn (I also made a clip of this).
Crota looks a lot like Atheon, actually, though not as big. He spawns up on the back broken bridge area I mentioned earlier. You have to rush out of that room or you will get swarmed by Knights who now will come in there. We gave this part several tries but it was getting late so we had to quit.
After several seconds "Oversouls Gaze" will trigger and the Eye of Sauron thing that is behind Crota will become enormous and glow. You have to shoot that to get rid of the gaze. We did that once or twice but it took tremendous firepower to do so and we barely made a dent in Crota in the mean time. Crota is shielded by the way.
There is also something called a "Chalice" in the middle of the outer area under Crota. Someone picked it up but we couldn't figure out what to do with it. There is also a Swordbearer you can kill and get his sword.
Oh yeah, and during the Crota phase your health regeneration is disabled!
So we still have to figure out the trick here with the Chalice and such, but this is gonna be a pain.
