Raid is unlocked from the get-go.  I'm sure we will be attacked by newts, bees, & marionberry on day one despite how much content has already been patched in.

 
So what are you guys even doing in the game now and plan to until the DLC drops? 

I am just trying to load up 10 completed 5k bounties on all 3 of my characters so I can just redeem them all next week and plow through my upgraded exotics and maybe if I am crazy lucky a piece of 31/32 armor haha

Otherwise there is no point in playing and leveling stuff up in the game currently, at least for me!

I did strike/nightfall/raid and then decided to take a break until DLC. I should probably follow your lead and have bounties ready to cash in as well as make sure my vanguard marks are maxed so I can buy level 30 arms as quickly as possible too. But I finally opened Bayonetta 2 today and that should keep me occupied.

I just hope the bounties keep until Xur shows up next week?

It used to be that bounties wouldn't give you credit if they were turned in a few days after they were first available.

I think this got fixed when they expanded to 10 bounty slots since I've turned in some that were 3-4 days old.

Otherwise, there's not much for me to do other than finish my 2nd pocket infinity bounty (stuck at 9 of 10 fusion dismantles), one more Hard raid run and level my 3rd toon to 20 (which is sooo boring to do the 3rd time around).

 
Good news on the Raid starting minute one of the reset. The thing is, are we only able to download the DLC at that point also? I could definitely see the servers getting slammed then. Lots of things could go wrong. I'll let you guys know how it pans out!

Nice, I have a second Pocket Infinity bounty I am working on. I need to try to get most of the way through the Nightfall kills then before Tuesday (at this point I still need 6 rare fusion rifles after breaking down 4 soon-to-be-obsolete legendary fusion rifles).

On the topic of people not pulling an exotic bounty in 100-200 hours of play time: that really sucks. I'm sure I had several in that time. I'm over 400 hours now and I haven't had too many recently, but I've done Super Bad Advice twice and am now working on my second Pocket Infinity. And I lost count of how many ones with crucible-related segments that I abandoned along the way - had to be at least 5 though.

I saw your post about this on the PS4 thread. Broly may have forgotten, but when he first guided us CAG scrubs through our first Raid, my initial haul was: Kabr's Grips, Kabr's chestpiece, Atheon's Epilogue, the Titan mark, and the Raid ship. And NO Chatterwhite. Of course, that was far and away the best haul I had amongst my 20+ Raid completions. So that was a little misleading to get right off the bat - but nice nonetheless.

Damn, this is a great idea. Why the hell did I cash in 4 bounties last night just leveling up garbage weapons!? Oh well, at least I have 3 days of "casual" play time to nail down 30 more bounties. The other thing I'll be doing is glimmer farming since I'll have to buy 6 fusion rifles and will want to be near max again by next week.

We should have more than a few days right. I was thinking of the DLC release too, but we still have to wait for Xur to show up in order to do the exotic upgrade.

And yeah, I got rid of my legendary fusions too. Almost never used them and they're serving me better now that they're dismantled for my 2nd PI bounty ;) I just hope I can scrounge up that last rare fusion so I can work on most of the NF kills before the weekly reset.

(gunsmith doesn't like selling rares during my playtime)

Just checked and I have 82 Strange Coins across all my characters. I hopefully shouldn't have a problem upgrading my exotics and getting anything new he has for us next week.

So that's a potential 65 coins spent during Xur's next visit

Yeah that is what I was thinking too.

Like at first I was like hell yeah 82 that is plenty! But then factor all that in that you mentioned above (though I do have 3x Exotic Shards already) and 82 seems like nothing. This past month I have been skimping and not even doing some of my Weekly Strikes... now I wish I had!

 
Hey guys, just picked up the game for 30 bucks at gamestop (xbox one). Interested in joining you guys, but am I going to be screwed joining this late? Will I even be able to play with CAGs before leveling up a ridiculous amount? What are some things I should know before I start? Look forward to hopefully getting some games in with fellow CAGs!

Hurry - you have to hit level 29 by Tuesday so you can run the new Raid with us!

Just kidding. That won't happen.

However, here's what I would suggest:

1) Go through the story. This shouldn't take you more than 10-14 hours. You may want to do a little Patrol and some bounties in the middle to level up. If you take on the story missions too much below the suggested level you do very little damage to the enemies and that makes it pretty hard. Doing some bounties along the way also helps up your Vanguard rank which you will need to do to get better gear once you hit 20. If you need help with any levels feel free to invite one of us to join since they can all be done coop). The final one can be a bit hard if you are under-leveled or under-geared.

2) Along the way, you might want to consult a guide about the golden chest locations, especially on Earth. They have some nice weapons and gear in them for low-level characters.

3) Once you finish the story you should be about level 18 or so and have a pretty good weapon (given to you at the end). At that point you just want to do Vanguard bounties until you hit 20 and keep looking for rare (blue) gear that can drop from any enemies. Most (if not all) blue gear has some "light" level to it so that will start raising you above 20. You can only go above 20 by changing/levelling gear - you do not gain character experience after 20.

The "mid" end-game (level 20-27 or so) is a little hazy for me as it has been a while since I did that from scratch. When I started up 2nd and 3rd characters, I already had a lot of gear I had collected from my first character so that made it easier/faster. But getting yourself from level 20-27 will be the hard part. If you keep ranking up the Vanguard (by doing bounties) then you can buy legendary (purple) gear there and start replacing your blues. Now, keep in mind, all of this is changing on Tuesday. They have this new commendation system which we really aren't all that sure about. But one thing is for sure, you will need to do bounties and level up Vanguard regardless. The good news for you is that you will probably be able to buy level 30 gear next week. Right now the max light level you can get to is 29 with the stuff you buy from the vendors (the level 30 stuff comes from the Vault of Glass Raid or Iron Banner PvP).

At some point when you get into the level 27-28 range, you can try the Vault of Glass Raid. I'm sure some CAGs wouldn't mind running you through that even though that will be the "old" Raid come next week. I wouldn't mind helping for one. I would suspect if you put an hour or two into the game for a few weeks you should get to that point. If you manage to get to level 29-30 you could just jump right into the new Raid. Then at that point you are pretty much caught up with us.

I'd say you could probably put 30-40 hours into the game and not be too far out of range of most of us who have spent nearly 10 times that much. The good news for you is that some of the "reset" that Bungie is doing with the DLC makes it easier to catch up.

I don't remember exactly what level - I think it probably has more to do with where you are in the Story though. However, early on you will get mail from the postmaster telling you that there is a new bounty - so it is pretty obvious when they show up.

I played for about an hour and a half tonight and got 7 bounties done on one character and 8 on another. So I ought to be able to max them out before Tuesday pretty easily. If I am lucky enough to get anywhere in the new Raid and then get some gear, I'll be all over leveling that up ASAP. Otherwise I'll hold them for Xur on Thursday night.

I'm really curious to see how much easier it will be for everyone to figure out the new Raid right off the bat given we sort of know how this stuff goes down. Or maybe it be so completely different that we'll be like that first group on VoG that took 1000's of deaths and 12+ hours...

I really enjoyed the campaign, but the endgame was really frustrating and I was ready to trade the game in. Then I played a strike with a random who told me that it seems like it takes forever to get your first legendary, but once you do all the sudden you'll have a bunch. I kept grinding and it pretty much happened just like that. I was way behind all these guys and missed out on the raid for the first month it was up, but that just meant by the time I could join them they were pros and could carry me through haha. Plus, Bungie is making it easier to hit 30 next week. Destiny is a game that requires a significant amount of playtime and becomes a serious addiction; ye be warned.

 
Everyone has given some solid advice on what to do to play catch up.

The biggest thing is that a bunch of what we know is changing come Tuesday so really for the time being just focus on the story and completing bounties. The basic leveling system to 20 is not going to be altered and playing through the main events will take a bit of time. I recommend once you are able to, to play the strike playlists as well. Those paired with bounties are what boosts your Vanguard ranking and regardless of how they change the system that SHOULD still be very important based on what we know so far of the changes. 

Also yeah the game is addicting. You want to keep up and have the best stuff but it definitely takes time. With the changes currently happening now this upcoming week I would actually imagine this to be the best time to start. That way you will be at 20 soon and the new changes will have already been in place and we can help you even more then with that. All of these changes are somewhat screwing over people who have played a ton and actually seem to favor the new/ lower level player so that is great for you!

The game is definitely the most fun when played with other people so whenever you get a chance be sure to play with SOMEONE haha. Be sure to join the CAGcast Alliance on Bungie so that if you add all of us and shoot an invite or join our games we instantly know you are a CAG and not some random haha

It needed an update it kicked me off a bit ago yeah.

Oh man. My buddies needed a 6th for a Hard Raid run and it was nice and fast. Got from Oracles to completion in about 38 minutes. At the very end with Atheon I had full Gjallarhorn and knocked down Atheon to little to no health and then 2 people died and 3 teleported and I was the only one alive and I freaking powered through that shit all on my own keeping the gate open and killing all of the supplicants. They came out of the portal and we finished Atheon right then. It was a crazy clutch moment.

I was using my Warlock though and so I got another Raid Helmet, which I do not need, another Mythoclast, which I do not need and then another Timebreaker which I as you expected, do not need. I felt really bad though because I have basically everything already and so there is nothing for me to get that would be new but there were multiple people in that group that still dont have the helmet and the Mythoclast!

Eh. The helmet has Intellect whereas my old one has Strength so I might as well keep it just for shits and giggles and then the Mythoclast at least means I have another Exotic Shard for next week!

 
Breaking down a Vex Mythoclast for an exotic shard is almost too painful to think of ;).

Of course a lot of people don't have one. I managed to get one a few weeks back - but that was it for 6 or 7 hard mode completions so my luck was actually pretty bad on that (but good on the helms since I got one for each class).

That's an impressive run though Broly. The group I run with blazed through Gatekeeper and Atheon last time but we took a while on the "new" (actually, old) Templar fight. It probably took us twice that time from Oracles to the end.

Thanks, my guys and I have been running this shit since the beginning like you know and so it is just down to a science basically hahah we beat each encounter first try except for the Templar who we had literally seconds from death when my buddy went down on bottom with relic : /

I am curious how everyone is handling the Templar now. Last week I ran through normal with my Titan and we grabbed a random out of the tower as our 6th and the kid was like 11 and said he had not fought the Templar normally before. Made me laugh when I realized there are so many "30s" out there who have never fought him legit. For a while I ran him through legit and then we found out about that platform on the left and then we went back to fighting him normally once that was patched and then went to pushing him off once that was discovered.

But yeah on Hard you do it differently and the method still works and curious if you all do the same since I have not run Hard with you guys since the patch.

You can all just stay up top after the Oracles and basically stay in the same spots too. You then have one person (level 30 sunsinger ideally) jump down and grab the relic. Relic user is responsible for L3 and R3 (though obviously others can help) and the rest are still just up top taking out oracles. Once the Oracles are down the relic takes down the shield and you just pummel him from up top and repeat. In a good scenario the relic user can also stop him from teleporting and someone puts up a bubble with Weapons of Light in the back up top and you all use Gjallarhorns and kill him SUPER fast ; D

But yeah I felt really weird breaking down the Mythoclast haha Oh well, it had to be done!

I know it isn't required to unlock anything, but I was thinking I'd go through story first. Unless we manage to have a full group for raid on Tuesday.
 
^^ I thought they had said that there were two story chains, one to unlock the strike and one for the raid. If that's not the case then I'd def like to get a raid group together Tuesday night, we may all need to call in sick on Wednesday.

I spent an hour glimmer farming the exclusion zone today, knocked out 'cabal command' and 'overcharge' bounties while I was there. Also got a bunch of blue engrams. I'll be ready to upgrade my Vangaard and Cryptarch rank on Tuesday and hopefully get something cool in my care packages. I'm also waiting to pick up Super Good Advice from the gunsmith, maybe it'll be awesome at level 32, right?

When we did it on Hard we just stayed in the back right section and took him on normally - that is killed harpies while waiting for the Relic to charge, then taking down his shields and laying into him. With the detainment fields and needing to cleanse every so often, though, it just took a while and we hit enrage a few times which then ended it. Finally on the last try we did it a little quicker.

We did the same on Normal with the CAG group last week but it is considerably easier and I think we did it in one try.

I'm not sure I'll ever get the chance to try the sniping from on top method, but that sounds much easier ;).

Maybe the strike, buy according to Friday's blog post you won't need to do anything to open the raid. It will unlock for everybody at 1 am Pacific on Tuesday.

My buddy asked to do a Flawless Raider run with him and I hate it hahah

I normally dont die on the Raid anyway unless we are wiping or bogus Atheon glitches and so I was absolutely fine but other people.... were not. haha

Good thing I do not give a poop about achievements : P

 
For games that I spend a lot of time playing, I usually do like to get all the achievements/trophies. But despite this being the game I have played by far the longest of any game ever, I don't see myself getting them all. For one thing there are all the crucible-related ones. And then there's this one. Now maybe if subsequent Raids don't have a Gorgon/jumping section it might be possible. I could see not dying on any of the regular fighting parts, but those sections and Atheon glitches (wouldn't it suck if a portal glitch did you in after making it all the way there!?) make it something I don't even want to try. If anyone invites me to a "flawless" VoG run, I'll pass - I don't need the stress ;).

I have been taking a little break. I didn't play at all yesterday and may not again tonight. I might not be on it again until the DLC hits Monday night...

Thanks for the tips and suggestions everyone. Guess I'll just make a run through the campaign and see where I'm at. I was thinking about getting some games during this Best Buy B2G1 sale but honestly I think Destiny and 2k15 should hold me over for quite a while. Trying not to let the backlog get out of hand this gen haha. I'll have to send some friend requests / join the clan. Look forward to leveling up and playing with you guys in the near future!

I, on the other hand, failed miserably at this... I got Dragon Age Inquisition for one thing ;).
 
So my buddies are doing it at 1pm tomorrow and I think I am calling off sick haha.

I genuinely have been sick and still do feel like garbage so I am not even making it up! I will be tempted to try and do it right at midnight (central) though haha. I suppose I will just wait and see who is on of my buddies and go from there. Otherwise I will be playing out the new missions and strikes!

 
Yeah, I've been sick off and on for a week and my gaming is suffering! Once I'm better, there will be a binge of legendary proportions!!

and....Inquisition is freaking great. Another huge time suck. I don't plan on playing anything other than Destiny and Dragon Age for a long, long while.

The multiplayer achievements were actually pretty easy. I think I'm just missing the salvage one because I've never played that game mode. This is coming from somebody who is usually amazingly average at competitive mp games. But if an achievement isn't fun I don't go out of my way to get it so I can understand not even bothering with some.

It is funny how being sick should be the perfect time for binge gaming. Usually for me I just want to lay on the couch while watching TV and not play anything.

I haven't even completed my first playthrough all the way yet but I am already thinking about starting a new one hahah There are just so many options I want to explore in the game. The next one I am literally going to have nothing but humans in my party. I won't let anyone who isn't human join the Inquisition and just use myself as an Archer (Artificer Specialization), Cassandra, Vivienne and then Blackwall and Dorian. I will bounce between Dorian and Blackwall and see which fits that team better. But yeah then I will just be a complete a-hole and do only the most ruthless of options and not even acknowledge other races. I may even call my Inquisition the Reich... hahaha I really am curious to see how that all would play out.

But yeah sorry for the DA rant on the Destiny page!

My kid brother is getting an X1 for Christmas and he is absolutely terrible at games. I am hoping I can help get him better and so I bought games Friday at Walmart and traded them in and yada yada Best Buy stuff and in the end got Destiny and MCC for $24. Those should be solid Christmas presents then and with me down there visiting that week hopefully I can whip him into gaming shape ; P

Yeah, I'm not a multiplayer person in general but the multiplayer achievements in this game are not bad. Just take a week and decide that you're going to focus on Notorious (max weekly Crucible marks). By the time you play enough games to max the marks, you'll have popped all the other achievements along the way, with the exception of the Salvage one because that gametype isn't always available, and the Triple Play achievement, there's going to be some luck involved there.

The DLC is going to be adding new achievements, right? I'm really surprised they haven't popped up on either XBL or PSN yet.

With this last Iron Banner.... I hit my Crucible cap Wednesday night... hahahah after work Tuesday that was all I did and then I had taken Wednesday off and played it like all day.... o_O

Yea, I am horrible at multiplayer stuff, but I was able to get all the crucible achievements out of the way. Even did the exotic bounties that required having high K/D ratios, void damage kills and what not. Maybe just get into it when the next iron banner comes out this month, then you will at least we working towards some armor that can help your light level.

I am wondering about the achievements too. Odd that they have not leaked to one of the achievement sites or showed up on the game pages on xbox.com. Figured with the amount of information that was put out to the press last week there would be some info. Who knows though, maybe they aren't adding any? It seems short sighted, but anything is possible.

When does this go live? 1am Pacific? I might have to try to get some time in when it goes live if the servers aren't a disaster. I have a corporate event Tuesday after work so won't be around until later.

Yea, I am horrible at multiplayer stuff, but I was able to get all the crucible achievements out of the way. Even did the exotic bounties that required having high K/D ratios, void damage kills and what not. Maybe just get into it when the next iron banner comes out this month, then you will at least we working towards some armor that can help your light level.

I am wondering about the achievements too. Odd that they have not leaked to one of the achievement sites or showed up on the game pages on xbox.com. Yeah I have been curious about the achievements too. What in this world ISNT leaked now??

And yeah should be 1am Pacific but who knows how the servers will be seeing as half the time I get error messages as is.

I still haven't redeemed my season pass code. Guess I need to do that. :) Is there a large download with that? I'm guessing not since everything is on disc or the 2 gb patch they pushed through a couple weeks ago.

The only thing I think that hasn't been fleshed out besides the achievements is the handling of upgrading exotic armor (is light level reset too or ?)

As for me, I have stacked up some bounties on my characters and farmed some glimmer. Hunter is 30 so all good to go there. Warlock is 28 but I can push to 29 tonight if I want to, but it would only be to try to do atheon on hard to have another chance to pull a mythoclast. My titan is stuck at 27, as Notorious RNG has decided that I am not allowed to pull any raid gear on that character.

Xbox page says the DLC is under 10MB so yeah shouldnt be too big. There could be a large update however accompanying that tomorrow morning despite us already patching multiple times these past weeks.

Light level is treated the same as the weapons. When you upgrade your exotic it will remain at light level 30 but can be now upgraded to hit light level 32.

And yeah I have a ton of bounties saved up and will finish more tonight probably. I have my Warlock and Hunter at 30 though my Warlock will be the Raid guinea pig since she is far better suited to PvE. I quite leveling my Titan I started a couple weeks ago since whatever I do now will be pointless and I will just wait and get the new Vanguard armor and stuff after the DLC drops.

Since it seems like the Vanguard/Crucible inventory is being phased out, I picked up a few things in the last week to "collect" and also nabbed an extra Shadow Price and Swarm since the new offerings look like downgrades.

Hmmmm

Still no possible rocket combinations that can beat Gjallarhorn from what I can see.

Also checking out the new exotics the only worthwhile one for the Warlock to me is the Starfire Protocol only if using your Vex. Otherwise I very well may still be sticking with my Sunbreakers. Both Glasshouse and Mk 44 Stand Aside look good for the Titan and then the Don't Touch me seems interesting for the Hunter where you go invisible when you get melee attacked. That hunter one should be cool in PvP.

I still say the Warlock has the coolest looking Raid armor by far, which is nice because I visually hate my warlock right now haha.

Also checking out the Raid gear it is nice that they have varying things for the Raid and not just one ability boost. Plus it makes me even more curious as to what those things are... Oversoul's Gaze..? Hive Swordbearer?
