Diablo III / Diablo II Battle.net Thread

Just an FYI for you guys. I picked up the Battle Chest today from Gamestop for $20. Since they no longer keep the games IN the box, they didnt give me Diablo 1 with it, even though it's shown on the box itself. I didnt notice till I got home. I called them and they told me it doesn't come with Diablo 1. I asked the guy why it's shown on the front of the box, and listed on the back, and he basically called me a liar. He then asked what the Gamestop price sticker said on it, and I said "Diablo II: Battle Chest (I & II) GD", which again, he didn't believe me. It was about 10 minutes till closing for them, so I couldnt go back today. I gotta go back in tomorrow and get it sorted out. We'll see how this goes.

So if you buy the Battle Chest, check it before you leave the store. Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up since more people are playing D2 again with the new update.

Update:
Gamestop did fix the problem with little hassle. I figured out the problem before they did though. Apparently there are 2 versions, one with and one without Diablo 1. I picked up the box for the one with D1, but was given the stuff for the one without it. I can see where they had trouble, but the guy was kinda a jerk on the phone about it, so I'm still slightly ticked.

Broke into the Hell Baal area with my first guy, sittin' pretty at level 80.

First alt is currently 33 and is a shockwave bear druid.

Waiting to start a few new guys as well, so if anyone is interested in starting some new dudes message me.

My main is a lvl 71 Sorc just entered Hell Act 1 - currently at a stand still due to really poor equip (still using Cathan's :puke:)

My alt is a lvl 46 Zon about to enter Nightmare, but also with extremely crappy gear.

@dude2003, it is not so much as putting in a lot of time as it is knowing how/where to level up and being able to be rushed through the slow areas of the game.

God help me I just logged on tonight to "just check" to see if my characters were still there. Unfortunately they (all 7) were. This game has had a hold of me since I bought it the first month of release.

Anyway I have a 75 sorc, 82 zon, 60-something paladin and 4 others in various states. I'm torn on actually playing.

Well kids, when it comes to Diablo, I love resurrecting the dead. So I bid thee thread to rise!

With only BlizzCon less than a month away, who wants to wager that they dangle some nugget of new info, such as the final class, in front of our collective faces?

New class announced: the Demon Hunter. >:)

Looks like a ranged/evasion type. Like an amazon/assassin mix. It looks like it can use dual crossbows and launch explosives.

the more i see of d3 the more disappointing it looks. the gameplay sections of that movie look like there is pretty much 0 fluidity in combat. the plus side is that it looks responsive, but animations just play one after the other with nothing to transition between. it makes it look very stiff.

the "prerendered" section of the movie looks terrible. i would say its using ingame assets with a filter or two and maybe some higher res textures. this is extremely disappointing if that is what we are to expect from the retail game's cinematics. i'm hoping this is not the case and that they just threw together these character intro cutscenes using the game's character models and such since blizzard usually has very nice cutscenes.

also, i know hellgate: london was more than inspired by d2, but the feel i got from that cutscene was definitely more along the lines of hellgate than diablo and there is a very tangible difference.

Has blizzard ever let me down, no.

They polish the games so much their games are automatic bestsellers.

The tweaking and balance is great in their games.

The music and sound in their games are always great. The art in the game is usually interesting and there are few useless characters (that do not help you in anyway). Diablo 3 will probably be the easiest version of the game by making it easy to pass through the game and level up. The playstyle should be about the same as Diablo 2, but to make this game even easier item drop chances will probably be lowered and the selling price to vendors increased. Item prices in store will be about the same as in Diablo 2. Gold will automatically be picked up and they may add the option to automatically pick up uniques or sets above a certain level, which you set for example it automatically picks up all uniques above lvl 30 when you are level 25.

I think everything looks fantastic. And that "movie" was just for the reveal. Blizzard always does high quality cinematics for the final game, they did it for D2, no reason they wouldn't for D3. They also said there would be 5 of them.

New class looks awesome, game looks awesome...... 2012 doesn't look awesome (my guess at release year). ARGH WHY SO LONG BLIZZARD?!?!?!!

It's hard to say. They're pretty much saying that the next part of SC2 won't be until 2012, so that leaves a hole in the Blizzard's 2011 lineup. Hopefully, they are as far along as they appear, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I'm cautiously optimistic about D3.

I played D3 at Blizzcon 2009 but not enough to form a real opinion of it. I think we've all noticed however just how bad these cinematics are. It's kind of upsetting because I really loved the atmosphere of D2 and if they're going to destroy that with shit like this, well I may have to pass.

I know it's just that stupid conspiracy theory about Activision ruining Blizzard, but it is very funny on how only after the merge that WoW changed itself drastically, Starcraft 2 came out and was the most anti-climatic sequel in history, and now D3 is being showed off with nauseating cutscenes. Say it ain't so blizz..

The company is a different beast though. A lot of talent at the company but the purchase from Activision makes me wary, and the original team moved on to do Torchlight right?

I'm curious, I like to see what they come up with, but I feel the heart and soul of the company isn't the same. There's a lot of pressure on them to perform now, so it is also more difficult to live up to the hype.

Been playing Titan Quest as of late, and it'll tide me over until D3 comes out. Even longer if Battlenet turns into pay to play, just a rumor but Starcraft vol.1 helps solidify the idea.
PvP arena looks so damn awesome, I'm excited.
it makes me worried that since theres a set place for pvp they'll be removing pking

This. If Blizzard doesn't have world PvP, then fuck this game. I'd rather play D2.

PKing meaning player killing? So running around the main game killing people and ruining their fun is where you get your jollies?

Perhaps, but I think it has more to do with Blizzard putting competitive tournament-ready modes in all their games.

I'm pretty positive in one of the q&a's they said arena is the only place for pvp. That's totally fine by me, I sure as shit didn't like the days where some asshole would come into a game, go hostile, and hunt everyone down.

Hear, hear.

yes. ever play demon's souls? knowing you could get invaded doesn't ruin the fun. its part of the fun, and diablo 2 had way more protection against getting killed (well apart from tppk but that wasn't really blizzard's fault).

going hostile puts quite a few restrictions on you, and the people you go hostile to have plenty of time to prepare be it returning to town, or finding a strategic location to face the attacker, or leaving the game.

it feels good marking your prey and taking them down and it feels just as good being marked and killing the guy trying to kill you. like i said, its not ruining the fun, its a part of the fun. arena removes the element of surprise. its the impromptu nature of pking that is appealing. you have to be on your toes. arena fights are akin to zealot v zealot temple rules only gm hold left click until someone wins yawnitude. !Go.

I'll give you that it could be pretty fun if you wanted to take a break from demon killing and hunt each other down.

Except that when I play Diablo, all I want to do is to smash demon face with my friends or strangers online. If I was in a public game and somebody joins and declares that he is going to kill me, I would have to take time out of my demon smashing and go prepare myself, leave for another game or hole up somewhere in town until they decide to leave. It would just be a complete pain in the ass and a waste of time. That's just not what I want to deal with when I play Diablo.

Sure I could make the game private and only invite friends, but what if none of them are on? I'd either have to play alone (which gets boring after a couple of hours) or make my game public and hope I run into somebody whose goal is also to kill demons and score loot. And judging by my experience with Diablo2's community, that's a long shot.

So how would you start a public game and avoid that kind of behavior? There really isn't any way. You could say in the game name "No PvP!" or "No PKing!" but that just puts a big target on your game and makes it even more fun for PKers to kill you. Because they know that they're just pissing you off and wasting your time.

If I wanted my questing and slaying interrupted at any moment, I'd play WoW on a PvP server.

Of course all this will be moot if Blizzard devises a way for PKers to play and kill each other (in the main game) instead of jumping into other player's games who are just trying to kill demons and get loot and killing them.

EDIT: Lol, I just realized it'd be as simple as adding an option to allow PvP either while creating a game or during it and making it a selectable preference when searching for games. I don't know why I didn't think of that before, duh. If they added that, it'd solve this problem. But even then, crafty griefers would trick other players into joining their game and then turn it on unexpectedly and start their PKing spree.

It worked in D2. Funny how that game was madly popular just the same. . .

What has really ruined games? Carebears.

Yeah, an option to allow PvP per game would be great. I can see why some people enjoy it, but I think on the whole more people do not like player killing.

People talk about PKing like there are a group of people that start with high level unstopable characters and some that start weak and get picked on. We all start crappy and everyone hates getting ganked, but the fun is getting high enough level so you can no longer be ganked + become the ganker. Circle of life. Makes games more fun...

Yes, for some people it does make games more fun. And other people don't like being griefed and just want to play the game cooperatively. There's really not much more to add to it.

Not directed at you but you do make a solid point I'd like to counter.

The only part of D2 was to get to the top, race there, with the best gear and formulate some wicked OP build that then can be raped on others.

That's not sportsmanship or any honor in it, it's just an endless loop of bullying.

I could see why they want an Arena, and I hope they balance all the classes so that it's the players skill that shines.

I have been ganked plenty of times, and ganked others, but it was far more fun to gank players I know, playmates, called them out on it, and to see what happens afterwards.

The reward in knowing who I was battling was better than just going after some random player.

A +1 to non-pvp "servers/games" because then the ones that want to play pvp will know what to expect. I think that overall it will give a better thrill to kill or to survive than say ganking some carebears.

I don't like anyone taking anything away...and it would be stupid for Blizzard to do so, but I wouldn't want them to force it upon others either.

ah and I guess I just couldn't stop myself... but yeah not much more to add to the debate.

Diablo 3 beta sometime in Q3 2011!!!

http://www.mydiablo3news.com/diablo-3-beta-announcement/
“On the ‘Diablo 3′ front, I’m pleased to report that we began internal, company-wide testing last week. The game is looking great and we are currently targeting a Q3 launch for external beta testing. The development team is working hard to try to launch ‘Diablo 3′ this year, but I want to be clear. We do not have an official release date or window yet.”

Bashiok further clarified the timeframe:

The 3rd quarter reference in the earning’s call today was a calendar quarter, meaning that we’re aiming to launch the Diablo III beta between July 1st and September 30th. Keep in mind that it’s our current goal, and of course that can change as development continues.

This is one beta I would be willing to pay (a reasonable amount) to enter. :D I got selected for the D2 beta so hopefully I will be lucky enough to get in this one without having to resort to desperate measures...lol.

It would be nice to have a closed beta first, but easy to opt in, then open later.

I miss beta's... been awhile since I played one that wasn't a damn MMO.

I wasn't expecting Diablo 3 this year so this news is extremely exciting to me. This has been my most anticipated release since it was announced. I'm a bit worried that it'll get pushed back to next year but hopefully it'll be out at least before the holiday season. I'll need that week off for Christmas/New Years to play the shit out of this like I did with Cataclysm.
I've owned Diablo 2 for about a year but I never got into it. Maybe the news about the D3 beta will inspire me. lol
My first reaction is "WHAT!?", but then I thought about it and it may not be for some people. I don't have an addicitve personallity, but the Diablo series is like crack to me.

You should be fine with D3 then since its just isometric WoW.

My problem was when I tried it I was in the middle of 20+ games. Now I've learned to control my buying and I keep my plate light with only a couple games at a time. After I finally finish FF XIII and Xenogears, I think I'll give this game a REAL shot. I'm sure I'll like it.

All I'm worried about here is a shitty narrative that's always in your face. Blizzard has lost all grasp on atmosphere and writing as seen with Starcraft II and recent WoW expansions, and I don't want them to ruin Diablo with it as well.

This is the feeling I got from playing it at Blizzcon, but let's hope for the best.

Also the Demon Hunter reveal trailer was the most amateur pile of shit I've seen from Blizzard cinematics. Awful character design as well.

--

I'll be rollin a female Mage for PvE and a male Monk for PvP.

I don't think invites have been sent out to the general public yet...just press and friends/family of Blizzard. Could be wrong so someone correct me if I am. Anyway, I just discovered my WoW account was apparently hacked yet again and banned for some reason or another. All this after I added the phone authentication too. Wonder if that will have any effect on me getting into the D3 beta.

Pretty sure Kill is right, just friends, family and media. I'm DYING to play this game, easily my most anticipated release since it was announced.
