SIGH. Ok, what's up with "bold" "modest" "adamant" etc...? I get the name.. I get the gender..but what's up with the adjective?! LOL

Man, how Pokemon has changed since Blue :whistle2:(
those are the nature of the pokemon, which has been around since the GBA version
those are the nature of the pokemon, which has been around since the GBA version
What's the nature do? And you can change that ?! Again SORRY, but I haven't played Pokemon since BLUE. LOL

Well, as they posted the natures give benefits to stats, as well as characteristics which were added in Diamond and Pearl.

Some Pokemon benefit from a boost from a certain stat. Take for example the ghost type Gengar, he is a special attacker. He has the base stat for Special Attack of 130. His attack is at a low base of 65. Now this generation they specifically show which moves a pokemon learns are physical (rely on the attack stat), special (special stat), or other (mostly things like status effects/modifiers).

So with the link above you see what natures does what. You would see Modest will increase the Special Attack Stat, while it will reduce it's Attack Stat. This would be the perfect nature for that pokemon. So basically some people breed the perfect natured pokemon, with specific move sets that they learn only through breeding, and high IVs if they are competitive.

In all honesty I never really paid attention to this as I only played Red/Blue and the remake. The remake had the natures, but I just played to have fun. So it's not too important really if you just wanna get through the game. Though if you want to make your ultimate team you will soon begin to want to breed for a specific nature and all that. This is what adds so many hours to some.

I will go breed you a Bulbasaur, I won't go for a specific nature, but at least you'll have it. Then you can worry if you want to breed another one after :) So maybe I'll trade ya tonight. I'll go get on that

Its also very important if you EV train...
Very nice, thanks for that info :)
Could you do a brief explanation on the GTS? I was there..and I think I understand it..but is this right? You upload a pokemon into it, and you choose what you want..well, how exactly do you wind up getting it..?

Ooh and when you say breed some of the original starters..you mean.. like Bulbasaur?! :D Oooh if you can breed me a Bulba I'd be so happy!! (I actually don't have ANY grass..grrr..)
I bred you a Bulbasaur, just send me a PM when is a good time to catch you. I'm pretty busy lately since I'm about to do a move right now. So it's best to catch me before I leave, or else will be quite some time before I'm able to do it. Not the best nature for it, but hey you can always breed for some more later when you get a Ditto (it's male).

Also more explanation this is how the GTS work. The Pokemon available on the GTS are only Pokemon you have seen or owned. You drop off a pokemon and ask for one of those on your list. For the most part you will get that pokemon, since Japanese love getting pokemon with English characters. Not to mention some specific pokemon have foreign pokedex entry (you won't have access to that till way after you beat the Elite 4 and get your national pokedex...not to mention it's only like 10-12 pokemon who have foreign entries: Spanish, Japanese, Italian, German and English if I remember).

You can wait for maybe a day, or just go back in a few hours. A day is better, just to give enough time for it to go through. If it goes through, you will see them checking the GTS Status, if it is taking longer than usual it means you will soon see the trade animation and your pokemon will be incoming.

You may also see around what people want for their pokemon and trade. Though some people have insane offers like wanting legendary pokemon for common ones. Sometimes you get lucky though.

BTW any name you want for your bulbasaur, seeing as since you won't be able to change its name once you get it from me.

THANKS!!!
First off, glad to know that I don't have to put too much into knowing about the nature, but I'm sure I'll eventually pick it up.
Thanks for the GTS tip, I thought it was instant but now I know to try again later :)

As for a time to trade? Honestly, whenever is best for you! I'm gonna be home sick all day :whistle2:( so I have plenty of time. I'm EST time, so whenever you get that chance.. lemme know.

(Does it matter what I trade you? You probably have a lot so it seems.. so I'll just go catch something random..lol) Hooray for Bulbasaur!

EDIT: Ok I added you! 4338-9451-2261 (in case you didn't add me!)

Wow, that GTS is pretty awesome. I tried something simple for the hell of it..I put up an extra Dustox I had in request of a Turtwig (I picked Piplup in the beginning lol) and I checked back an hour later and it worked. This is def really cool..!

Sure thing, I added you last night. I will be on the trade screen from 8:00 EST and probably will stay there for 10 minutes. Just in case you don't get this message heh. Glad you are seeing the GTS work for ya nicely :D

It doesn't matter what you trade me really, so anything works.

Nice! I just got in (sick, and had to do errands..sigh) and luckily got here at 7:30 to see your message! Cool, I'll def be on at 8! Thanks alot!!

HOOOORAY!
I got a Bulbasaur!
Life is GOOD!

Thanks A LOT!!

BTW, how's the headset? I don't have one (obviously lol) but it was all loud comin from the DS speakers!! lol

But again, thanks a lot! That was really quick too! :)

Now, time for 'saur to go learn bullet seed and take names! TTYL!

ROFL, omg talk about punctual. Sorry for forgetting Bulbasaur first XD lol I was like oh damn where's that pokemon.

I also gave you a fossil, so you can make him into a pokemon at Oreburgh City Museum.

The headset isn't bad, sometimes it's a good and clear other times it's just crazy. I heard a few people on your side, so didn't know what was being said heh heh. Glad you heard when I said I'd be back lol.

Oh snap really?! Then what's the point of the headset if we can speak through this?? I didn't even know that, but I guess since there IS a mic in the dead center.

This is awesome, LOL

Well, the point of the headset is more so you don't have to be so near the mic so people can hear you. That's pretty much it. I bought 2 of them one for my wife and myself, just cause it was 5 bucks cheaper in amazon and was buying something else so had my free shipping.

So you can talk to others and all, but to hear you better you need to get closer to your mic. I found it annoying to bring myself close to my DS each time to do it though. So at least the headset just lets me continue on as usual

Ok, I'm on Victory Road leveling up my team. I plan on having everyone between 55 and 60. Are those safe numbers? And am I wasting my time leveling up an Elekid to Electabuzz for the Elite Four, or should I focus on a different/better pokemon?
whew finally finished reading this whole thread. and i'm not going to be able to get online much either, since i'm going to japan saturday. probably another 400 posts before i get back
one month later it's time to start reading again

Well, you should level it cause you will eventually need him for Electivire. Some people really like him, he does have a pretty high attack as well (too bad there's only one lightning move that's physical, it's not bad, but nothing powerful to take advantage of his STAB). Then again depends how much variety, he does have some other interesting moves you could breed it and some good TMs you could give him. I just used my Luxray as my lightning pokemon heh.

ya same...luxray is actually pretty good. At first I thought he'd suck then when I got the 3rd evo he was quite good and looked much better xD. I think I'm kinda underlevelled though than most people...I'm at Palkia now and my 7 base pokemon I've been using are basically all lvl 40 +/- 1 or 2 levels xD

Pretty much the only things that Elec-types are going to get rid of are Vespiquen (first member), Drifblim (second member), and Milotic (champion).

One thing to be warned about the Milotic, however, is that it loves using Mirror Coat out of nowhere. Killed my Mewtwo when it surprisingly didn't die from a Psychic, so now I weaken/trick it with Brick Break, and use Psychic to finish the job. If you are using Grass/Elec moves, make sure they're physical.

EDIT: Oh yeah, kinda forgot about the first part of that post. 55-60 is a good level range, but try to aim for 60-ish. I managed to beat the E-4 somehow at a team average of 50, and I regret not doing more training.

Thanks for everyone who contributed tips for where I'm at. I'm mainly worried about getting an Electric type, because I'm yet to actually use one. I figured I'd be covering all areas if I had one. Not to say my team sucks:lol: because it rocks, I'm just worried a water type could KO my Torterra, the only pokemon I've got that could be super effective against water. I'm trying not to use legendaries, but maybe I should level up a Raikou instead?

you could also just get a grass pokemon to talk care of water ones. I really like them...throughout the game my roselia has saved my team on numerous occasions cause I just leech seed them, then I can giga drain yet, and use the magical leaf after the enemy is seeded, so she rarely dies. I've beat the whole game always underlevelled though ... and for some reason I don't like using potions so I'd always let my guys faint instead xD. Umm ya but a grass will take out a water one...only trouble I've had with this case is if its like water/flying like a gyarados. Milotic is just water I think...so you can take it out with a water pokemon, drifblim can be taken out with dark moves, and vespiquen can be taken out with a flying move so use like staraptor or heracross or something...

You dont really need a electric pokemon against the elite 4. I just use the final form of the original 3 and 3 HM pokemon to beat them. Milotic will use ice beam of be careful using Glass type.

i just started playing Pearl, but I think Im stuck at the Cave where it says "It's a rugged rock, but a Pokemon may be able to smash it." how can i make a pokemon smash it?

Go to a town with a pokemon gym you havent beaten to be able to use HM's...you'll have to do this type of thing a few times in the game xD

UGH, is there a small, neat chart I can print out with the strengths and weakness'?! LOL I remember MOST but there are times I get confused with who can kill what!

Here is one that can be especially useful if you are dealing with dual types and do not want to do all the figuring out of what cancels out, what doubles, etc.

Can anyone give me some tips on where/how I can level up my Wartortle to lvl 36 so he evolves to Blastoise? He's currently at 26 but it is just taking too long.

Give him exp share and find a good place to grind him up. I'm not sure if he'll get double the exp, but it makes grinding a lot easier.

that terrifically useful item that lets a pokemon get exp and EVs even if it didn't fight in the battle. you get it in eterna village i think.

Victory Road is a great place to level your team if they're anywhere between lvls 40-55. Once you beat the game, the guy standing in front of the hole near the end of the cave leaves, and you can go in there to fight more wild pokemon that are around 54-56ish. Also, the path leads to an area where you can nab the Leftovers item.

Wow, I just leveled my Blastoise up to lvl 52, all by continously fighting the Elite 4.

I'd put Blastoise in the front, and then I'd switch him out and kill the pokemon with another one of mine, so Blastoise gets some of the exp.
This is teh Wi-Fi thread ain't it? So as anyone got a Japanese elite four glitch Darkrai or Shaymin yet?
no, that's the other one. the one with wi-fi in the title.

lucky egg is the best since it double your experience.
lucky egg is the best since it double your experience.
It's actually only 1.5x, so the total XP earned is the same (unless you switch more than once). If you don't switch at all, the Lucky Egg is better. If you switch once, they are the same. If you switch more than that, the Exp Share is better.

The nice thing is that the boost from the Lucky Egg (1.5x) and the boost from traded pokemon (1.5x) stack, giving you 2.25x the experience. You could feasibly set up secret bases where you have 6, level 100 Blisseys. If I recall correctly, each Blissey would yield ~12k exp if you had both the Lucky Egg, and the traded pokemon boost.
it works even better with an exp share, since blastoise will get 75% of the xp instead of just 50%
Or you could throw the exp share on him and have him fight to get 175%? I duno, it's over 100% exp though...

Erm, no... Exp Share doesn't work like that. Suppose you get some amount of exp from KOing a pokemon normally, without any switching, exp share, lucky egg, or trade boost. Call this is the base amount of exp. The exp share holder is given 50% of that base exp right off the top. The remaining 50% is split evenly among those who battled.

Thus, a pokemon holding Exp Share that KOs another pokemon by itself gets 100% of the normal base exp. (50% from the exp share, and it gets all of the remaining 50% because it was the only one fighting)

The Blastoise that holds the Exp Share, and switches out gets 75%. (50% from the exp share, plus half of the remaining 50%)

I never used to EV train, mainly because of laziness and also because I never thought it made a difference. Then I got around to doing it for D/P, and.....wow. I was pretty wrong. Having a Machamp that can outrun your average Alakazam? That's pretty impressive.
