I think it's important to remember the phrase "there are plenty of fish in the sea."
Yes, it certainly does suck if a girl you're interested in rejects you. We've all been through that on some level, I'm sure. It hurts of course. But if you write off all women because that girl that smiled at you once when you hit your head on your locker door has a boyfriend...well that's just foolish.
If you convince yourself that Girl X will be the greatest thing since sliced bread, you're probably not only making assumptions about who she is (so when you find out who she really is you may be disappointed) but also if you are rejected it will hurt more. If you're interested in someone, ask them out. If they say no, move on. Let things happen when they happen.
Let the Living Force flow through you
Oh, and another thing. If you say things (whether it's to friends, on a message board, wherever) like "I'm so lame" or "I'll never find a girl" that lack of confidence and self esteem really shows through. It affects everything you say and people WILL notice. I'm going to E3 with a website I work for. One of my fellow staffers said "I'm not going...but I doubt anyone will care." If you act negatively and think negatively, only negative people will be around you. If you are positive then positive people (the kind you hopefully want) will be around you.
Amen to that, confindence and attitude are a big part of it
