Donkey Konga pre-order $31.99 FYE.com

This is a great deal if it includes the drums... FYE is a pretty big chain so I would think they are relaible...

Well for the most part. There's a few stories on here of really good deals being listed on FYE.com and when people order them their order is unexpectedly canceled or worse their card is charged and then the order canceled. Its not like they can charge you for something they don't send but its just a pain to have to sort all that out. With that risk in mind, I;d say you may want to give it a shot.

Good deal, although for me it came out to like 37-38 after tax and shipping. I had very little interest in this game, but for 30$ I figured I'd get it, but after all those costs, it ended up being a lot closer to 40. No thanks for that price. I figure I'll just wait for a sale or something once the game comes out if the game gets good reviews.

If it comes with the drums, its a very good deal. But if it doesn't you'll probably still end up spending more than the $60 MSRP on the set (atleast I think its $60) by the time you purchase some drums for it.

you could take the shipping away by buying more then $49 worth of stuff....which i know a lot of ppl dont wanna do, but maybe theirs something else on there that sparks your interest
Also GMR has a coupon for a $10 voucher at EB when you prepurchase it there.
Which GMR issue?

The September issue, it has someone from GTA: San Andreas on the cover. They also have a $10 voucher you can get for pre-ordering Paper Mario 2.

I'm really tempted to pre-order but am worried they will either send just the drums or cancel the order if it's a mistake (remember the Mafia problem, where they billed everyone and sent tracking #'s but the orders were still cancelled).

the msrp is $50 with the drums everywhere else(gamestop, BB, EB) but if BB or CC has a sale on the release week for $40, and you use the GGC for $35 that is as good of a deal without the hassle of wondering if your order is cancelled or whatnot.

If you trade in a ton of junk at fye.com then this is a great deal tho

Is the game even going to be sold w/o the drums?

I mean I know you can get DDR w/o the pad, but I don't think you can really play Donkey Konga on a normal controller...

It seems to work with a controller.

We also tested a standard controller with the game and found it works fine and uses the following mappings:
# Left drum is mapped as the analogue stick left/right

# Right drum is mapped as the A/X button

# Sound sensor is L/R button

# Start is mapped to start

Link : Donkey Konga

There's really no point in playing the game with the controller though. It's like playing Samba de Amigo or Dance Dance Revolution with a controller...kinda defeats the purpose of the game

After taking their sweet time, FYE finally got back to my e-mail asking whether or not this pre-order comes with the drums.

"Thank you for contacting us with your question. Currently, the preorder for Donkey Konga is for the game only. We do not yet have the drums for sale."

I hope no one here placed the order assuming that it would come with the drums. :?

I didn't even think the game is going to be sold without the drums though. Maybe I should e-mail Nintendo and find out if they are offering the game for sale as a stand alone product.

Or is it possible FYE is planning to take the bundles and seperate them?

That was the official word from a FYE.com correspondent, YF. I was fully expecting and hoping them to tell me that it was the bundle so I could place my order, but then they responded with that. I would be careful pre-ordering this from any store, whether or not they show the boxart. Make sure you're getting the full set.
Looks like they're separate guys.

Game ($50)

Bongos ($35)

The coupon in GMR even indicates that the $10 you save on the game from EB can be used towards the bongos.

Seems like a good deal at FYE.
The $50 game includes one set of bongos. More bongos can be bought for multiplayer. That is the only reason the bongos are being sold seperately.

Are you suggesting that the FYE.com correspondent I got didn't know what he was talking about? It's not like you can misconstrue what he said. He clearly told me that their pre-order is game only.

Actually, I was referring to the ebgames.com deal. I thought I made that clear by quoting it before I posted. But, nothing gets past you I suppose.
Are you suggesting that the FYE.com correspondent I got didn't know what he was talking about?
Based on my experience, that would generally be the case. Their customer service reps seem barely aware of their existence on this earth; having a grasp of the actual products that they are selling is way beyond them.

I see, Popus. Now the guy has me worried, though, because I don't want to pay for just the game. Damn you, FYE service rep!

My mistake, Ledhed. You don't have to be such a smartass. I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this. I have FYE.com telling me that it's just for the game and not the drums, and everyone seems to be agreeing that the game isn't even sold without the drums.

That's why I am questioning if FYE is just making a mistake about it being game only or they plan on seperating the game and opening the bundle with the drums.

I was thinking of pre-ordering it anyway but I didn't see anything about being able to cancel the pre-order (I searched in the help section) incase it is confirmed somehow they are just selling the game.

And, there still could be the possibility that FYE is totally wrong and the $31.99 is for the bongos only because the MSRP on them is $34.99

If I was to make an educated guess....I would say that FYE is clueless at this point, but that the game always includes the drums, at least initially. There's a good chance fye will realize their mistake and cancel people's orders, and yes there is a chance that they will send you just the controllers. If that was the case you could return it to them at their expense and if they gave you any hassle you can talk to your credit card company about reversing the charges since they sent you something other than what you ordered. If you're willing to take a shot it's a good deal and I'd say a decent chance you will get the game and drums for that price.

I don't think that Fye guy even knows what you are talking about the drums and stuffs. They just say no drum included to be safe.

I pre-ordered 2 of them, one for me and one for a friend, so that I can get free shipping. It came to 35 each. I won't hold my breath on them sending me the game w/ drums for this price, but if they do it's a nice deal. If they don't, no big deal, and if they send me the wrong thing I will just take it back to the local fye for a full refund.

so if you were to pre-order this in-store would you get the 31.99 price? that's what i want to know because i would love to trade something in and use that credit

I preordered this on faith when this post first showed up, figuring that FYE didn't know what they were talking about when they said the bongos weren't included, and it looks like I was right.

The product description is now "Donkey Konga with Bongos." They also added a description of the game instead of just a price and serial number. It's still priced at $31.99. Check it out here.

I'm the same way Nirvanaguy777, even though this is a good price, this game just doesn't interest me at all. I saw two guys playing it in Gamestop the other day and they looked retarded....that helped to influence my purchasing decision a bit right there.

I had seen people playing DDR for years and thought they were a bunch of morons just from looks. I ended up giving in and getting DDR a couple months ago and now I think that *I* look like a moron, but that doesn't mean I don't have a lot of fun playing it, because it's one of the best game experiences I've had in years.

Why don't we all call & email FYE to kill this deal just like the one for Media Play? Either it's the Game/Bongos at a great price or just the Bongos at an OK price.

Since they list it as the game w/ Bongos, you can take a chance on getting a nice deal. Alternately, if they send only bongos, raise a fuss after it ships to get either the full game and/or other compensation or just return it and be out no money since they goofed.
Why don't we all call & email FYE to kill this deal just like the one for Media Play?
I agree, I think everyone interested in this deal and orders should just wait and see what happens. I took a chance and pre-ordered this one since I doubt Media Play is going to honor my order (I sent them a letter) but I would hate for FYE to cancel this as well like Media Play did.

Straight from the source:

Thank you for your e-mail. Donkey Konga comes packaged with one DK Bongo Controller. If you want to play a two-player game, you'd need to have one additional controller. The Nintendo GameCube DK Bongo Controllers are also estimated for release on September 27. The suggested price for the controller is $29.99.
I imagine the game will be sold seperately eventually, just not right away. I figure DK:Jungle Beat will be released with the bongos as well, and at the same time, Konga will be sold seperately.

In case no one here realized, FYE = MEDIAPLAY = WHEREHOUSE = STRAWBERRIES == TRANSWORLD ENTERTAINMENT.

Most likely what happened is the distributor made a mistake on the description of the item, Mediaplay picked up on it in the end, FYE hasn't yet. Don't expect to actually have any different resolution to this issue than the Mediaplay issue. They will change your order - without authorization I may add - to Bongos only or some crap like that.

Anyway, don't call FYE, don't e-mail them, just let it be and then when you get the bongos only, raise holy hell that they didn't send you what they said they would. BTW, make sure that you buy it with a card that has return protection like AMEX, that way if they give you a hard time, just take it up with your CC company.
