Dragon Age: Origins - Gen. Discussion & Info

Whoa. How the heck did you level up your character that high? I don't know about the dupe glitches (or many others, for that matter). The patches don't affect this?

Bioware can eat a dick for this boss. I'm dead serious.

Running for my dear life in circles + Supermarket sized assortment of greater and superior tier poultices + Sleep (TRY RESISTING THAT SHIT WHEN MY SPELL POWER IS OVER 9,000 BITCH) + Nightmare (JACKASS SKELETON SQUAD IS CONFUSED - THEY HURT THEMSELVES IN THE CONFUSION!) + Animate Dead (LOLZYERCORPSEWERKZFERMEKNO) + Every flavor of Hex and continuous dmg spells + LASTING SO DAMN LONG ALONE THE GAME EVENTUALLY STOPPED SPAWNING A LEGION OF ELITE BOSS TIER MINIONS = V for fucking Victory

100% legit bitches. Now I'm off to punch a baby.

Described in detail here: http://www.trueachievements.com/viewcomment.aspx?commentid=105832 (Be sure and give the dude a positive vote if you do it, some elitist jerks are downvoting the solution)

Basically you can duplicate any item in the game using a simple trick that lets you sell the same item to a merchant twice. Use the trick to generate a few hundred Tomes of the Mortal Vessel, then go to town boosting your stats. It still works with the latest patch, you don't need to do anything special to use the exploit.

Can you still level up your character or does this just improve your stats?

I'll try it legit a couple times, because I'd rather do it that way. But if it proves too hard (which it might, especially since I finished the game like a month after it came out and have only been going back for the DLCs, so I'm out of practice) than I'll just use the glitch.
Can you still level up your character or does this just improve your stats?
This is just taking the Tomes that are already in the game and making more of them. Some of the Tomes give you stat points, some give you ability points, and some give you both. The one thing you need to take into consideration is that once you enter the level up screen, you can't leave it again until you spend all of the points you have. So, if you give yourself more ability points than there are skills to spend them on, you will get stuck and have to reload when you try to level up.

Theoretically the same thing is possible with stat points, but with a max of 999 for each stat, it's very unlikely you'd find yourself in that situation. I only bothered with stat points, so continuing to level up normally wasn't an issue. If you do max out your abilities, you can basically never level up again because you won't be able to spend the new legit ability points you earn.

Anybody have a copy of the instructions because the author looks to have taken down his solution?

Eurogamer has a new preview up for Dragon Age II. I know there are a lot of people not happy about the changes from Origins, but I have to say, personally, this game sounds like exactly what I want from a Dragon Age sequel.

I like the changes I have heard about so far. I loved the first DA and all dlc. I am more than willing to go into DA2 with an open mind about the changes.

I thought it would be just about gameplay, but there was a bunch of story spoilers in that article.
New DLC announced "Witch Hunt" Ties up the ends of the Morrigan story

http://dragonage.bioware.com/dao/witch_hunt/
The first DLC I absolutely must have, though I'll probably wait on some kind of bargain price for purchasing all of the DLC.

Wow, sounds great.

"Dramatic conclusion to the Origins storyline" -- looks we are 1750 and out!

ETA: Wait, what the hell? Same release date as the Liara DLC for ME2? Is BioWare trippin'?
I thought Bioware had a 2 year plan for DLC for Dragon Age?
I know I'd rather have Dragon Age II than another year of DA:O DLC missions.

There is a trailer for the Witch Hunt DLC on GameTrailers. Nothing special really, though it does look like we'll be finding out more about the weird mirror from the Dalish Elf origin story that seemed really significant but then was never mentioned again. Better late than never!

Well for those that don't know, someone forgot to flip a switch so no Witch Hunt so far. Bioware said they are investigating with Microsoft. Supposedly on the PC version its available if you go in-game to get it. I can confirm at 2 p.m. central it's not available on 360 either in-game or in the marketplace.

PS3 release is supposed to be on schedule for their US store update later this evening, so unless something changes in 4-5 hours, they'll get it before we do. :(

I honestly wouldn't count on 360 users getting it until much later this week if we're lucky or a miracle materializes. I'm sure whoever is in charge of certification is probably off the clock by now. Oh well... I guess I have MS to thank once again for what could easily evolve into another Pinnacle Station debacle. I might as well remind myself to check again next week. ;\

FYI Witch Hunt is available now in Game Add Ons on the Marketplace. It's about 450 MB if you're curious.

Witch Hunt, as it is now, is complete garbage.

If you're looking to buy this DLC, I highly suggest you wait and see when/if there's going to be a patch to fix the ending. As of right now, it is super broken. Check the internets (BioWare Social, etc.) for proof of this.

Witch Hunt is beyond garbage. Took me only one hour to beat on hard, so damn short for the last dlc we will get for DA. No questions answered, my choice didn't carry over and made the ending even worse than it was. fuck you Bioware, Witch Hunt is a fucking slap in the face to DA fans.

Well, everything worked out storywise for my Warden-Commander (
reconciled with Morrigan and followed her through the mirror-- she even mentioned that I was still wearing her ring, I thought that was a nice touch
). But yeah, the 100% recycled environments were trash, and overall it was too short and unsatisfying. I did really enjoy the company of the two new human companions. Ariane in particular is just the kind of dry, slightly acerbic woman that BioWare always does so well-- like Sigrun in Awakening, I wish I could have mini-romanced her or something.

I really hope the Old God baby plotline comes up in some form in Dragon Age II. This DLC ultimately didn't reveal anything more about it and it would be super lame to leave it completely hanging without any resolution at all.

Could someone spoiler tag what is glitched about the ending? I can't make sense of the problem through all of the rambling on the Bioware forum.

In general it sounds like people who romanced Morrigan and accepted her offer at the end of Origins are getting a Witch Hunt ending where she acts like they denied her. I don't know, everything was consistent for me.

Witch Hunt Climax (based on a true story):

Morrigan: i saided dun cum butt u ded aneywayz
Morrigan: y u duu dat? u kno eye iz so emo rite
Warden: i luv u / i gona keel joo / ware dem ansirz at / ware mah kid bich
Morrigan: lol yo clouzer n dee otha cashell stoopid
Warden: wtf y u rickey rowl foh wear mah kid!!!!?
Morrigan: lalalala caint heir u doom commin s00n lol
Morrigan: cain't say nuttin bout nuttin cuz u anit waren uh decoda ring
Morrigan: k ima goin b out u cummin oh waht?
Warden: uhhhhhhhhh k / stabby stab stab!111 / fukk u ho
Morrigan: emo famlee

Thanks Ryu.

I did not get a glitched ending apparently. Everything worked out fine for me and I walked through the mirror with her. Only thing was there was a VERY brief cut to I guess the other side of the mirror (looked like a forest area) then the credits played immediately. The pic of them after they walked through the mirror lasted maybe a second.

I think a LOT of people who had her sleep with Allistair or any of the non-romance plots are the ones getting the glitched ending.

I saw that come up for a split second too. I don't think it signifies anything other than a quirk of the engine-- I have had that happen in other spots in Dragon Age, it will show a brief after-image of the level that just ended, sometimes with odd things going on with the textures and lighting.

How are the Achievements? Is there another difficulty-based one?

I still need to play the last one as well, so I might jump back in this weekend.

There's another one but the boss fight is a joke. The rest sans one follow the storyline so they are forgettable at best. The entire itself DLC is ridiculously easy.

There are 4 achievements:
Storyline that can't be missed
Beat the DLC
Beat the boss on Hard or Nightmare
Find all the codex entries
regarding Dalish in Cadash Thaig
. Very easy to do if you just look around a little bit.

Yeah, there is another difficulty achievement but it is nothing like the last one. I actually felt the need to check my options during the fight to make sure it wasn't still on Casual. The dude is a pushover.

Na, I followed the DR rite with this toon, and didn't bother messing around with any other choice just followed the Morrigan line and it still glitched out. If you read on the Bioware site this has happened to a lot of people.

this is exactly what i thought. being able to
get your dog back
is awesome, but they were very literal in the title..
you hunt down Morrigan, see her for 15 seconds, stab her or let her leave, she leaves you a gift and this book, yet you do not even get to see what it is or the gift of interest
. the environments are ALL recycled locations, the add on characters are prefabbed, forgettable garbage, LET US USE OUR ORIGINAL TEAM.. they know Morrigan, they could easily replace these tools and have no problem figuring out any of the shit in the quest.

no answers, insanely streamlined combat, joke of a boss, crap for narrative, unreactive mobs... this could have been a 1 hr core addition that takes place after the main storyline and been a SET UP for DLC.. but sure as hell not worth the purchase price.

I just finished Witch Hunt and
I had performed the 'ritual' with morrigan at the end of my original playthrough, but she kept telling me I had 'denied her'. Even with that, it goes on to some dialog where my guy tells her he heard she was with child, and tells her he wants to meet his son. That whole last sequence of dialog had me totally confused, because it was completely out of sync with what I had actually done. I did end up going through the mirror with her at the end though.

Apparently bioware is in the process of looking into resolving the continuity glitch. It'll be nice if they do, so I can at least have an ending that makes a bit more sense.

Any good guides out there to help me get the most achievements possible on one playthrough? I would prefer a guide that is in order so it is easy to follow.

pretty much just play the game, the only places youll have to decide which achievement to get is at all the major plot point choices of good and evil... but you can always make a save and do the other then load your original. I got all of mine minus the leveling ones in one playthrough

Read thbe xbox360achievements guide for a complete achievment wlkthru.

Revisiting this game since I got the dlc on sale. Haven't played since launch and never beat it.

The text is way too small in this game and the looting is terrible. Gimme a big backpack, sheesh.

Yeah, be sure to read up on the backpack upgrade locations before you get too far in the game. They are scarce and there are some instances where you can lose the ability to purchase one if you progress too far in the game.

Has the planned GotY edition been talked about in detail yet? I'm wondering if all the DLC will be on disc, or if it'll just be redeemable codes like RE5 Gold.

I have the game and Awakenings (still sealed), but I think I'm going to try to sell them off for $40 and just pick up the new edition when I can find a deal

I finished the Dwarf Commoner Origin, then took a Dalish Elf as a Ranged-Rogue-Assassin through his origin, Ostagar, Lothering, Broken Circle, Arl of Redcliffe and Urn of Sacred Ashes in about 26 hours before I finally had enough and uninstalled it. I read ahead and it just looks like a tremendous load of bullshit from here on out, so I think I'm going to let it go and maybe restart it with a new character sometime next year, after I mow through Fallout: New Vegas and Halo: Reach.
great game but my blood armor expired before i could use it
Have you actually tried entering the code? A lot of people have said that theirs worked after the listed expiration date.

Any 360 package like this not from 2K is 99% most likely going to be DLC codes instead of being on the disc like on the PS3 (more storage available on the Blu-Ray.)

Here's the MSRP on the DLC:
Stone Prisoner- free if game was bought new, $15 if bought used
Warden's Keep- $7
Return to Ostagar- $5
Feastday bundle- $3
Darkspawn Chronicles- $5
Leiliana's Song- $7
Golems or Armgarrak (sp?)- $5
Witch Hunt- $7
Awakening- $30

The only DLC's that take place during the main Origins game are Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep, Return to Ostagar, and the Feastday bundle (which is used to get your different party members to either hate you or like you.) The other 5 are all seperate games that take about 1.5-3 hours to beat, with the exception of Awakening, which is about 15-20 hours.

If you can get $40 for the Origins and Awakening disks then I guess the new one would be good for you, but if you only want certain DLC's then you'll be better just to pick and choose what you want. Just make sure you have a bunch of room on your 360 HDD as Awakening is a couple of GB's by itself, and it will probably be another 5GB or so with the rest of the DLC.

If you continue on into Awakening, you'll have the ability to buy any of the backpack upgrades you may have missed. I missed 1 in Origins, and was able to buy it after the opening of Awakening.
