Dragon Quest VI - Out Now
How could you not like monsters in your party?
Players can waste hours leveling up the wrong monsters. How do players know how that monster will develop without using some guide? Is fine you are type of RPGer who only plays with a guide in front of them but not for me.

Stick to human party just to be safe.

Ah, I see. It's a matter of preference.

Personally, I am totally okay with spending lots of hours like that, because I'm just fine with prolonging a dragon quest experience.

In addition, I've found that I can "waste" just as many hours trying to level up the wrong humans (Brey/whatever-the-other-name-is in Dragon Quest IV), if I'm not careful.

I have two options for this game: either Amazon or Kmart. I should be getting about $15 in Amazon credit the week before DQ6 comes out, from some surveys. I also have a $25 Kmart GC. Tempting.

Hopefully, with this being Nintendo's first big 2011 release, there will be some nice deals.

Monsters could be great in 5, but for some reason, I just didn't like having them in my party. It felt too much like I was playing Pokemon.

Don't hate on Brey. He had Sap AND Oomph. Too bad there wasn't a single target Ice spell in IV.

That's a sad story. She lived to be 91 years old and loved video games.

I don't think I know anyone that's older than about 30 that doesn't seem to scorn them.

Especially women in their 30s don't seem to be too into games, I've noticed.

That is a sad story. At least she got to see the wonderous world of VII-IX.

I'm surprised there aren't enough writeups on the phenomenon of senior citizens liking the Dragon Quest series. I remember reading an article in EGM about the Nintendo Helpline and a common group that usually called were these senior citizens bragging about playing this series, and one gentleman in particular claims to have beaten I or II without any weapons equipped.

if you want to know about Dragon Quest VI monsters and all that i always see a GameFAQs guide pop up real fast. You can always use that if you dont plan on buying a guide.

I love Pokemon so I loved V.
Glad the Alltrades Abbey is in VI

IS there a guide for this guide coming out?
I see the 11th for $20.
Guess ill be buying that right now.

Here is a idea: games are more fun without the guide.

Guides are cool to have, and can be cool to look at. And cool to collect!

...of course, that's an opinion. Just like your opinion that games are more fun without the guide.

Seriously, that's the second time you've been pushy about using guides in this thread. It's charming that you've taken it upon yourself to be a crusader against strategy guides, but maybe it'd be even more charming if you didn't try to push your opinion on people.

I've definitely already got mine reserved at GameStop along with a copy of the game for each of myself and my wife!

I'm getting sick of lazy developers using the guides' existence as a crutch. Who cares if the game is broken for players who doesn't use a guide since everyone uses them.

"What? You couldn't figure out that giving NPC#1 some item you got from NPC#2 at the right time of the day to get the item you need to give to NPC#3? Why aren't you using a guide. We didn't explain that in the game since everyone uses the guide".

fuck those developers.

Slimes ... too ... :3 ...

I'm going to buy 3 copies of the guide.

One to keep in mint condition on a shelf.

One to read cover-to-cover before I even play a minute of the game.

And the third one I'll just throw away.

I don't know that this has ever been a problem with the Dragon Quest series? Again, I guess that's an opinion, but it seems like Dragon Quest has always tried to leave the journey a bit open-ended and up-in-the-air at times, and if many people have a complaint about that, it's news to me. It's not like the info isn't there (in the game); sometimes you just have to look around quite a bit to find it.

I always buy guides for DQ games because I like the art and like to collect them. They're helpful on the boss fights too.

The guide for VIII was horrible though. Only useful for the alchemy recipies.

What's really bad is when those requirements have to be met, and its a missable item that you only have a short time frame in which to get it.

i want a guide now because look what happened to DQV guide,
Scarse and overpriced. Plus i like guides for monster and character skills. And i just like to have the sets.
The perks of having lots of disposable income

hell i lived at GameFAQs when DQIX came out.

I live at GameFAQs when most RPGs come out.

How much is the DQV Strategy Guide? I don't see any on fleabay.

There are examples of hit having sold for $35, $40, and $26 if you search for items that have sold.

Might have already asked but is there a casino in this game? What games do they have? Are the prizes worthwile, or were they a waste like V?

I'm still surprised IX didn't have a casino.

My husband said there's casinos in the original SNES version, at least. Can't imagine they'd take them out. The prizes probably will vary though (like with 4).

That's good, although I remember playing for hours in V and never getting anywhere.

i never touched the casino's in v did play a little in 4 to get a dress.
I loved the board games in V, those were fun.

For anyone that pre-ordered online from Gamestop, did the slime plush show up on the order receipt or in the order contents? On my MvC 3 pre-order, it specifically lists the pre-order bonus (decals) when I view the order in my account online. I'm wondering if they might already be out of the plushie but just haven't changed the product page.

I've never been impressed with the casinos in any of the DQ games. For that matter, I've never messed much with the Game Corner in Pokemon games either. Typically, the games feel too random for me to feel like wasting time on.

I'm with adriley, though. I liked the board game in DQV. Wish they'd done more with that.

Agreed. It was fun in DWIII too.

Yeah, the board games could be frustrating but they weren't as bad as the casinos, which are so completely random that they don't feel worth it. I had the patience for it playing Dragon Warrior 4 on the NES back when I was 11, but these days, not so much.

the casinos in DQ are always rigged in your favor...

if you tape down slot machines you'll win, and hi-low poker is so obviously biased towards you.
the guide is now $12.50 on amazon
great price
That's pretty good, except you'll probably get it sometime in Mar. if you're lucky by that time you've beaten the game.

I've been burned by guides on Amazon before.. I don't mind paying a few bucks more and getting it day 0.

I hope this game is in store on Mon. and not shipped on Mon.

Don't the stores have this game in hand already? They're just sitting on it until the launch day?

A few people in Canada have picked it up already, and there was a sighting in Florida. I think at a Gamestop?

i pre-ordered at my local GameStop cause i want that plush
I have Prime so i get the guide in 2 days, Feb 16 since they pushed the release day for the guide.

I want that plush too. I pre-ordered it before they offered it as a bonus.

New to posting here. I've been playing DQ IX since it came out and have the strategy guide. Is this new DQ game as long or longer than IX? IX seems to be lasting forever.

Probably about as long as the main quest I've heard... Like 35-40 hours.

It doesn't have the post game content IX has.

called up gamestop to see if i could do a INSTORE PICK UP.. they go no BUT They will overnight it for free (had Free shipping the SAVER stacked on it)

Now i got to wonder..... Since they said they SHIP Out items a day before the release day (meaning the 13th) since the 13 is on sunday i wonder if they are going to start shipping these out tomorrow.

Love to get this monday.. if not with overnight i get it tuesday

i cancelled my tactics orge game since im getting

Dragon quest 6 on the 15th and getting Radiant Historia around the 25th of feb

then count on Pokemon white/black coming March 10

I'm keeping my Amazon preorder because 1. I have a gift card balance that will cost the entire cost and 2. It's fucking tax/busy season anyway so when the hell am I even going to play it. I can wait a few extra days.

if you dont want the slime kmart has a 15 buck off thing... could probally price match this at best buy and get the game for 20

so now heres the question

get the game Monday at Best buy for 20 + tax

or

Get the game Tuesday at Gamestop for 25 + tax with a free slime plushie (used a old 10 off coupon to get it for 25)

there is a Pokemon black/white promo at kmart coming as well......so hopefully its 15 or 20 off that as well....

probally just keep the gamestop order and say i paid 5 for the plush
why get the game tuesday?
why not monday
cause gamestop isnt going to mail the game out till monday it seems..

i used one of those old 10 off your purchase coupons to get the game for 25.....

i can wait a day and save 10 bucks... was sort of hoping gamestop shipped out the games today but i knew they would never shipped on saturday :(

and best buy would not Price match the 15 off deal (kmart) till weds anyways)

Got back from the DQ6 launch/Yuji Horii signing in Palo Alto. He was supposed to be meeting the first 50 people and I was number 54 or so (I was there 1 1/2 hours early!), but he stayed on for a while. He was really friendly and gracious and spent a lot of time chatting (via his interpreter) with people in line. So awesome.

One of the guys near the front had been there since 2 AM (The event started at 1PM.) and had driven up from L.A. Holy crap.

This guy (center) was passing around this big slime for people to sign and eventually gave it to Yuji Horii as a memento from the fans. It makes me grin to think that my signature and slime drawing will end up somewhere in Yuji Horii's office. (Or, more realstically, his storage unit. But whatever. :D)

IMG_0928.jpg

A King Slime greeted everyone as they finally entered the store.

IMG_0936.jpg

The line outside after I left, so imagine it with 60+ people. No idea if everyone got to meet Mr. Horii.

IMG_0937.jpg

Goodies, plus got my DW1 signed! When I took it out of my bag, he was like "whooaa."

Thanks to Gamestop and the Palo Alto staff for putting this on, all the guys I commiserated with in line, and of course, Yuji Horii!

Now if you'll excuse me, I still have to go play DQ4 and 5 DS. :cold:
