Dragon Quest VI - Out Now
..........no attack button?
Ummm Yeah there is no attack button you just walk up to monsters and start slashing. It's exactly like Half Minute Hero you die easily that's exactly how it worked on the DS Version.

That's interesting. However, save for Rocket Slime, all of the DS DQ games actually have an E10 rating. It's not that far from there to a T.
Anyone wondering what DQ game 3DS is getting? That could be a DQ7 remake.

maybe a new Dragon Quest X
in the way of IX, would be cool
I'm hoping it's DQX, as well. :bouncy:

nice. I'm still rocking my way thru IV. about 75 hrs in. But I also spend bus trips just gambling or grinding. It's a great game to play since I'm rather high and i don't need a stylus I can play with my gloves one. I'll grab V soon as I finish or it drops. Whichever comes first.
5 is the best Dragon Quest game. It's really hard to find though.
For cheap, if you're willing to pay full price its still available here.

Scratch that, looks like you can't even get it off the SQEnix site anymore. Good luck to those trying to get a copy.

GOD YES PORTABLE DQ7. Is that based on any actual facts, though?

After DQ9, I'd be really happy if DQX moved off the Wii onto a portable. Just add in online multiplayer and tagging this time.

^lol

try your local stores that sell video games and you might get lucky.
I found my copy at K-Mart for $40 which i did not mind paying since it was brand new.

There was a serious possibility at one point of this one not coming Stateside since Square-Enix was originally suppose to publish it. I'm glad Nintendo is stepping in. DQIX must have made bank for NOA, as we all know, they take little risks nowadays compaired to their European counterparts. :D

So hell yeah, day one for me lol!

Dragon Quest IX made Dragon Quest semi-popular here. Before it was 'what the heck is Dragon Quest?' So yeah, it gained some momentum.

I'm in Japan right now and saw DQ6 today on sale for the DS (in Japanese of course). Makes the wait even harder!

Interesting side note... S-E keeps basically all of it's games since the PS1 in production here. Today in an electronics shop I saw for sale:

DQ4 PS1 remake, with guide
FF7-FF9
Vagrant Story
Chrono Cross

And a bunch of others. I guess having PS1 support in all Playstation systems for the past 15 years maintains the market for them.

Yup, saw all the PS1 games in Japan myself. Makes me so jealous.

Esp. seeing my beloved DQ4. I was so disappointed when the PSX port got canceled for the US release, and here they have mass-produced copies for ~$20. I must have beaten the NES version 3-4 times growing up. Of course, the DS remake made up for it, but... it still hurts ;)
Wait.. what? 2/14 is a Monday.. I thought Nintendo games released on a Sunday? That must be a typo?
Nintendo's games for the Wii are normally released on a Sunday (I think). DS Games I think are on Monday.

It could be anything. Maybe Amazon lost a lot of orders due to not being able to offer Release Date Delivery and griped, so Nintendo changed it. Maybe Nintendo just wanted to say "haha, we released a game on International Make A Baby Day" to Sony and Microsoft.

Only Nintendo really knows.

lol
this will be day one
was gonna order on Amazon but if no one has pre-order bonuses ill pick it up in store with however has the best deal.

Yeah, I've had it preordered on Amazon forever. But I have tons of Target gift cards from the holidays. Unless there's a preorder bonus I'll probably get it at Target. I'm assuming they'll carry it since Nintendo is publishing.

Yea, Target should carry it. Hopefully K-Mart will have some special for it, otherwise I will pick it up from Amazon most likely.

Yeah, DQ 5 is out of print.

I'd love to just get a copy of it for under $40-45 shipped at this point. I've found a couple places selling it for under $45, but not a single one looks like it's a legit retailer.
To anybody who's played the JP version:

IS there a casino in VI? I thought it was odd that IX didn't have one.
Problem is that most people in the US doesn't find constantly reloading the game to win at slots to be fun. You and I are the minority.

With this my collection of Dragon Quest Quest/Warrior games will be complete after picking up I&II on the old GBC in 2000. :D
I was getting a bit worried that VI will never make it over here but I'm glad that IX is doing well to bring awareness to the series.

So pumped about this. Anyone know where the best bet is to actually be able to acquire this on 2/14? Sure I'll be busy and pre-occupied most of the day, but I'd find a minute to start this come hell or high water....

Bump for Gamestop pre-order bonus slime plushie (In case you missed Jessfest's deal thread)
Will I be missing out since I skipped IV and V? I know there is some connection between the three.
IV, V, and VI are the Zenithia Trilogy.
Right but is there anything major carrying over from game to game?
Not to much. Just the castle in the sky is the same.

Any one know the size of that plush slime? I want but I'm wondering if it is like keychain sized or something before I preorder.

I was wondering that myself. But I went ahead and preordered the game anyways since the review on The Escapist said that Square Enix charges 25dollars for their 28 cm by 25 cm by 35 cm plushie (+12dollars shipping).

$25 for that plushie isn't bad. That's a pretty decent sized plush, plus it's not like it's a dollar store character.

Not sure if the Escapist knows what they're talking about, since the US Square Enix Store doesn't sell Slime plush. FWIW, the dimensions make it sound like it could be the large Smile Slime plush, which has an MSRP of 2500 yen, or about US$30. Like Altanis said, that's not a bad price for a plush of that size, especially an import.

The slime in the pic on Gamestop's site closely resembles the small Smile Slime. I'd be down for that if it is; the quality would be decent and it'd make a nice companion for the medium-sized one I already have.

Sorry, I can't quote links yet. And wow. From the way they worded it, that sounded as if it were their smallest version possible. Don't regret preordering the game though. I might order something from AmiAmi now too. Thanks.

I got one of those in Japan to use as a cat toy. It's small but still decent sized.

To anybody who's played the Japanese version, how many hours into the game is it before you get to change jobs? Is the job system pretty similar to VII with lots of redundant or useless skills? Do they still have monsters in your party like the pokemon crap that V had?

Has anyone heard if this will have "random encounter" battles, or will you actually be able to see the monsters coming towards you (like in DQIX) on the screen?

I'm pretty sure it's old school style where you don't see enemies on the screen. This isn't a diabloesque IX remake.

Yeah. Reviews confirm that it's random battles.

I never see what the big deal is. Battles are one of the best parts of DQ! I don't care how I run into them. Experience and gold, baby!

1: I think it's about 10-15, similar to VII.
2: Yes, it's very similar to VII, but no hybrid skills like Sword Dance, and I think there are less classes.
3: You can get monsters in your party but it's not needed, you can go all human all the time unlike V.

This is all based off the SFC version.
