E3 2009 - MS Press Briefing - What Did You Think?
You're trying too hard.

MS press conference was a low point in their conferences so far. Where are the awesome unique XBLA games, the awesome exclusive ground breaking titles, surprise games we knew nothing about just showing up, etc.

All we got was sequel after sequel, more halo, twitter/facebook garbage (useless trash), a avatar racing game that looks like its as good as YARIS, etc etc.

I was expecting a lot more awesomesauce.
Look, I've seen some of your posts in the past, so I realize there is little benefit to this post, but I can't help it... that bolded part? Yeah, we got something for everything you listed there.

Awesome unique XBLA game? Even if you don't like Joyride, the Epic game seems to fit the bill.

Awesome groundbreaking titles? Look, it's not a 'title', but if you can't call Natal groundbreaking, I can't help you.

Surprise games showing up? MGS.

... so, you complain about what they showed, then complained about stuff they didn't show, which was actually all taken care of by THINGS THEY SHOWED. It's not your cup of tea, fine, but don't pretend like nothing happened. I mean, personally, I found MGS and Natal more exciting than FF13, but to each his own.
yeah because MGS coming to the Xbox wasn't surprising at all.
It wasn't a surprise to me. It was inevitable. I don't think MS "raped" but it was a pretty good conference.

I'm pumped for Splinter Cell and Mass Effect 2. Those are probably my top 2 360 games.

Compared to E3 2008 and E3 2007 failures this more than makes up for the past bad years.

Remember when Banjoo Kazooie was the E3 High light.

My thoughts exactly. Good showing MS. I expect Sony and Nintendo to do the same, but I'm scared what's going to happen if Nintendo dosn't appease its fans >_
They'll whine and complain and continue buying their products.

If they give no date on Fatal Frame for Wii still then their presentation is basically a failure already in my eyes.
I can see though that if Nintendo dosn't show enough "hardcore" face time, a portion of their longtime audience is going to lose faith, which is not good longterm IMHO.
is it wrong of me to think that this was a pretty unimpressive conference? sequel sequel sequel sequel sequel alan wake sequel sequel creepy ai and somewhat impression mocapping device.
Agreed. There were a lot of technically impressive products on display but nothing that jumps out at me. I'm not interested in the motion control stuff at all. Interacting with a small child isn't really my idea of fun either.

Like I said earlier, no matter how much you crap on the social networking stuff or the motion control stuff, its out there and it's a big market. You may not care about it, but there's several more people out there who do and will use it. These E3 press conferences are for everybody, not just the hardcore gamer crowd.

My final impression is that MS did a remarkable job of presenting the entire package of new projects in an exciting and forward-thinking way. They didn't focus on any one area, which might have been a disappointment for those who wanted to be blown away by disc-based games or (and I don't know why, XBLA), and a lot of stuff was kind of already known, but they did come up with some key surprises with the things that didn't look so hot on paper, like the motion-control.

I was wondering when I was watching that promo video for Natal how long it would take for the internets to come up with an animated gif of the dad changing the tires on the race car into him jerking someone off.

I Don't think Nintendo themselves realize or care to think that far ahead. Best we'll get is like 2-3 games aimed toward the "hardcore" amongst the sea of mediocre (at best) casual games. Also, I'm not trying to be sound like a cynical prick, but I just have a feeling we're going to get another snowboarding story type scenario at their conference and I got to prepare myself.

There's a new, free premium theme in the Xbox at E3 section of the spotlight tab. Just go up to premium themes and the free 1 vs 100 theme is at the end of the short list.

So what time does the Sony E3 Media Briefing start tommorrow??

IGN and G4 TV crashed the only way I was able to watch it LIVE was through JustinTV

Never Mind

June 2nd tomorrow 9 am Pacific (so I have to wake up very early to watch)

and Sony at 11 am Media Briefing

If todays conference was big tomorrow a double does of Nintendo and Sony will be overload.

I plan to just watch and stay off the forums tommorrow, which reminds me I need some chocolate ice cream for the event.
I keep asking people who claim to be disappointed or "unimpressed" but I never get an answer, I'm assuming you'll actually respond - what would you want them to show, then?
As far as games? APB, Alpha Protocol, Borderlands, Wet, Dark Void, Singularity.. perhaps a few unannounced games.. just original stuff. I would've loved to learn more about Alpha Protocol and Borderlands, specifically. I would've loved to see a portable device announced. I dunno, it just seems like they played the conference safe with sequels, and that's cool - I just wish they'd take some risks on original IP's. They did a few years ago with Dead Rising and Lost Planet, and look where it got them - sequels. That's all well and good, but I want more innovation. A new MGS on the 360 was pretty big, but expected.

I'm intrigued by Natal, but hesitant on any more motion capturing stuff. Interacting with AI is just furthering the stereotype of the antisocial gamer when the Wii is doing damn near everything to shatter stereotypes.

I dunno - I guess I'll save full judgment until after Sony's press event. Sony's got a lot of potential, though - the new eyetoy thing where you can draw things in real life and scan them into the game and have objects interact with it is intriguing to me. I'm very, very interested in The Agency and Heavy Rain. I want to see all the ways the PSP Go will interact with the PS3. MAG will be great to hear about as well. I have a feeling that most time will be devoted to God of War 3, though.
yeah because MGS coming to the Xbox wasn't surprising at all.
It really wasn't. It's kind of a given that Ninja Gaiden and Metal Gear are both multiplatform, just not at the same time.

Like I said earlier, no matter how much you crap on the social networking stuff or the motion control stuff, its out there and it's a big market. You may not care about it, but there's several more people out there who do and will use it. These E3 press conferences are for everybody, not just the hardcore gamer crowd.

They're appealing to a non-gaming market on a hardcore gaming console. It's weird. Facebook and Twitter just don't really belong on 360. Party and game invites will benefit, though. Are they bringing back the function to watch movies with multiple people?

I notice a lot of people are complaining about there being too many sequels, but that is just an opinion type thing. Some people actually prefer sequels, others don't. The problem with brand new games now days is that a lot of them fall below expectations, while sequels have proven success. All preference.

And for those of you looking for XBLA titles, I am also surprised why MS didn't talk about XBLA extensively either, but they still might be able to have some booths up talking about XBLA and its future. But, the genreal tone of the press conference was to appeal to the hardcore and the casual, and the casual don't really care about XBLA, do they? Especially not the quirky, unique games you guys were hopign would be exhibited.

MS' motion camera did look nice... I gotta see someone using it live though to see how well it works. Did they demonstrate it on stage?

Holy Crap. Ubi Soft and Ea have had two of the most boring f*cking press conferences. Between the kids games and James Cameron talking for 30 minutes about nothing........good lord

Finally got around to watching the conference.... and I am generally scared now for the future of gaming. I was fine with it until all of a sudden Peter Molyneux begin to describe his utter distaste for a normal game controller. It's as if MS didn't spend the entire first part of the conference showing off games ... that you play with a controller.

I dont want to literally have to run all over the map on Fable 3.

Microsoft claims that there has never been anything like this in the history of gaming. Things like this have been around before. Motion fighting was available for a long time in Game Works on a Virtua Fighter (I think) machine. The whole drawing a picture on paper and having the screen recognize and interact with it, Sony was showing this off with the pet monkey eye toy project since last year. I can definitely see this becoming a sector of the market for the 360, but their claims that this is for both the casual and the hardcore gamer is non-sense. I would play the wall breaking game and such as small diversions, but there is no way I could play a 40+ hour game with that thing.

The rest of the conference was great. Alan Wake may finally get to come out and I love that they announced Crackdown 2 officially. Could care less for MGS on PS3 or X360. Would have like to have seen a new JRPG (even a sequel) but oh well. And I'm sure I will punish myself and pickup Forza (since I love the Forza series but am HORRIBLE at them).

I thought it was a good start, can't wait for tomorrow. I enjoyed the games they showed off, can't wait for Bioware to make all the games I want haha.
Assassin's Creed 2 11/17/09.. same day as Left 4 Dead.. both exactly 7 days after COD MW 2
Conclusion: A lot of big games come out in November.

If Motion controls like the Wiimote waggle and Now Xbox 360 flailing about, and PS3 motion SIXAXIS controls are the Future of gaming, then I hereby quit gaming.

Okay. Get out.

My finances are Limited so my Gaming budget only covers 4 games for the rest of 2009. Thats $260.00

#1. God of War 3 Day 1 purchase

#2. Modern Warfare 2 Day 1 Purchase

#3. Beatles RockBand (you can not fully appreciate music until you study and learn how they changed everything)

#4. New Wii Zelda game

Meh, just a bunch of pop music.

O shi.

#4. New Wii Zelda game
Are people expecting a new Zelda on Wii before the year is out? :whistle2:s

Yes 4 years is plenty of time for Nintendo to make a new Zelda game

Christmas 2009 biggest game will be a new great graphics Zelda for the Wii which will dominate all, and yet again be GOTY.

Remember Twilight Princess was 100% Gamecube max quality visuals. a Wii based Zelda from the ground up could end up looking very close to 360 quality.

Either I suck at math, or Fall 2009 would only mark three years.

Great. We have an obnoxious new performance troll, doing the whole "pretend to be dumb" schtick.

I DID IT LIVE!! gamesot had a great live feed

the moment i woke up and saw the words Left for dead 2 i was like oh shit this is E3 ( the chills wow)
and the moment kojima came out WOW!!!

Natal in concept sounds pretty good. We will see if game developers will actually use it to create better games. Let's face it... I would never paint on xbox. The kid demo seemed more like a "here is the potential of this" more than "this is a game we will create."

Seeing Modern Warfare 2 in action blew my expectations away... Initially I was not looking forward to vehicles (i.e. snow mobiles) but after seeing it in action I am stoked to play that scene.

The trailer for the new Star Wars was pretty sick. I can't wait to hear more about this title.

I finally saw the full conference last night on my DVR...WOW! MS totally killed...I was so upset to hear about the motion control system but after seeing it in action, I was totally floored. I honestly don't see this happening Fall 2010 like they are hoping, this is technology that they should hold off on for the next XBOX.

x 2

:whee:

I'm excited about everything they showed.

Did you get a chance to check out 1 vs 100 last night?

I also cried when that guy said something like "announcing a new game". Screen goes back then all you hear is the crackdown orb sound. Amazing.

I thought the briefing was amazing so my exciting things I don't know how my wallet is going to cope.

Sony and Nintendo can't top this, I am watching the Nintendo briefing now and it's zzzz.

Yeah I can't wait for Crackdown 2. That was a brilliant move packaging the Halo 3 beta with that. It went from a game probably to this day nobody would know exists to a major MS exclusive IP.

Yup...everything looked great.

No...I didn't have time, did you?

I download the video on the marketplace, once I heard that sound, I got chills.

I was blown away by pretty much 90% of Microsofts lineup, but the one game I was disappointed in was Alan Wake, maybe I just need to see more of it. The second thing that bothered me was as much as I love to see another Left 4 Dead, it seems way to early, I mean people are just now forming good, core groups to get through expert missions and survival mode.

The funny thing is for me was that i have the orb sound on my phone when i receive a new text message. When the orb sound came out in the event, I thought it was my phone.
