I found the gameplay to be quite interesting for maybe the first half, then it starts to bore you, as you discover that "finding clues" is nothing more than walking around, waiting for vibrations, though the questioning part is still quite interesting. The interviews are basically judging the actors' performances. I could never be a detective, as far as the game is concerned.

Phelps is a great character though, as terrible a person he is. Problem is, I wasn't much a fan of Kelso either.

The real reason to own LA Noire is just to experience the recreation of 1947 LA. I don't believe there has eve been a game which recreates a real place so accurately, with such graphical fidelity. Considering that Team Bondi has gone the way of the Dodo, this may be the first and last creation of such a caliber, recreated from thousands upon thousands of photos from that era.

*SPOILERS* PEOPLE!
The main character is a total jerk. It just wasn't much fun, especially the way things just falls into place and how you're forced into convicting people. The ending is such a cliche, I wanted to gag.
How so? he only becomes a jerk late into the story (and that's really dependent on your view of what a 'jerk' is - not to mention your grasp on the current time and settings of the game) and at that point you switch on over to Kelso anyways. It's a dynamic that you don't see in alot of other games: the evolving anti-hero. Rarely do you get protagonists that stray this far from their starting nature - it's amazing to see Cole Phelps grow as a person and as an officer of the law; becoming cynical, selfish, desolate, and so on in the process.

How was the ending a cliche?! D= it was probably one of the best this year for me. It's a fairly realistic game - what were you expecting, exactly?

I dunno how people can say the gameplay is boring, although anything can get repetitive if you approach it the wrong way. I was playing Dead Space 2 around the time I got L.A. Noire, switching back and forth. I didn't play the game in two to three sittings.

This game has a cast larger than any other before it. The script is probably in the same boat - I loved having conversations with my partner, and hearing what each person had to say at the various crime scene's. I'm a fan of film, so L.A. Noire was especially a joy to play.

To each their own, I guess.

I definitely agree with Phelps being a great character, very different from most video game characters (okay, so I take back that part about not loving the protagonist). I have a love-hate relationship with him, as I hate what he was, but that's what makes him such a good character.

I totally disagree with the Kelso bit though. I fell in love with the terrible person Phelps was, then they ripped him away from me. Honestly, that last bit as Kelso was my least favourite part of the game. I felt the story arch at each desk was brilliant, minus Arson, because of Kelso.

The best desk was definitely Homicide though. Best partner (Finbarr!), best mysteries and best climax. The bit with the Mary Shelley poems was SPECTACULAR, in my opinion. If only the rest of the game could maintain such engrossing gameplay.

I know I played LA Noire exclusively for a few days, maybe a week, so that may have led to my boredom with the "wait for the vibration" gameplay.

Regardless, this game is definitely worth the time and money. Talking about it makes me want to play it again, I might drop $30 for a 360 copy...

Oh, and not related to LA Noire: Did anyone manage to buy a copy of Sonic Generations at $30 today? The EB I went to didn't have it on sale. >.< Was the system busted? It doesn't say online-only...

I really did want to buy that game Day One, to support Sega finally taking Sonic in the right direction, but it released on a terrible day, the same day as Uncharted 3, which I dropped $100 on...

How're you liking Sonic? :)

Ok, I decided to re-pickup Sonic for that price. 30$ seems cheaper than the original 50$. Though, I traded in my extra games I never used towards it, but meh.

Meh. I'm waiting for the Vita version of Rayman. I'm day 1ing it for sure, but I'd rather have it for that than my PS3.

Platformers just feel better on handhelds to me.
it's amazing to see Cole Phelps grow as a person
...by having a completely unconvincing affair with the German woman? That just came out of nowhere, especially considering his personality.

Oh, just like how it was during the war... how convenient for Cole. Those flashbacks were annoying as well.
This game has a cast larger than any other before it.
The regular dialogue is pretty good, even within the confines of the silly story. It was fun picking out the actors from Mad Men, but I still prefer the banter in Uncharted.

"Out of nowhere"

sure lolz

"Those flashbacks were annoying"

This game clearly wasn't for you...
"Out of nowhere"

sure lolz
Their passion is quite possibly the most involving love story since that schoolgirl fell in love with that vampire.
Whoa, Rayman is 29.99 today. I'm definitively going to pick that up instead of Sonic.
I really want to... but I have to remind myself that this is a Ubisoft game and I'll see Rayman on the UNDER $20 bin quite soon. But you should definitely buy it, support Ancel and Beyond Good & Evil 2!

Played the demo of Rayman with the kids - pretty fun. though I'll have to wait. Christmas shopping has drained my bank account.
Good thing I picked up Rayman Origins yesterday. 29.99 is a great price for it.
Especially since EB is selling it for $39.99 during boxing week.

Came back home last night around 11 and saw it posted here. I then went to the Wal Mart closest to me and showed them the price on my phone and they did a price match.

i'll never understand why we have to go buy one game in order for another game to come out yet it has NOTHING to do with the series ( Rayman - BG&E ) i'm not being a fanboy but the moment Ubi accepted Microsofts money for BG&E to release a few months early as a promotion on XBLA i am against that sorta thing 1. I refuse to buy BG&E at all and 2. tell your consumers Hey ! buy this game to help fun this game !

why ? are you going bankrupt ? are you hurting for money that you have too tell people to buy a game to make it sell for another exist ? i wouldn't fall for that and ( sure you can say what if microsoft didn't pay them for a early release of BG&E on XBLA ) well they may not of but i'm betting they did and i'm gonna stick by that tho i can't prove it

I think it just makes the company bad .. holding a game hostage threatening no release till people buy their games is bad image for the company.

/ end rant - my 2 cents nothing against you Mr, i just wanted to voice my opinion on Ubi that's all. but i will say this i didn't buy Rayman and i'l do so maybe later on down the road when it's LOT more cheaper.

I think today was the last day for deals. Off topic for a second...
My family and I wish you all a Happy and Healthy Holidays and New Year. Hopefully more game deals will happen in the future:)

Thanks Same with the Two of You ! :)

JamesSoprano, the reason people believe that buying Rayman Origins will "help" BG&E2 (or allow for the game to be released) is that publishers like money, and if one game from a designer/studio (Ancel) doesn't sell well, they are less likely to support the next project from the same person/people, perhaps closing them down entirely.

This corporate landscape is the reason that we must support one game in order to get another. It's not just Ubisoft, by the way, every major publisher is a culprit.

A Merry Christmas to one and all! ^_^

I saw a quote from the company telling people to buy it for support of the other title .. so what if i don't want it and want BG&E2 ? i have to pay out alot of money to " Hope " another game comes out and the game i have to buy may be something i don't want ? ( let's say i don't want rayman ) then i'm out money on something i could have bought that i want. does stuff like this happen ? yea but Normally i never see Company's coming out right saying this cause what if the funds were their for BG&E2 ? and they do this so they can sell MORE copies of Rayman.

it may be from the same devs these games but i think they should go by the game sales of BG&E on PSN XBLA to see if it warrants a sequel not sales based off another series ( tho that's my thought but i know where your coming from and see why they are doing it but hey 90% of gamers may buy Rayman but only 25% may buy BG&E2 that's why i think they should go based on BG&E sales then Rayman )

It really isn't to fund BG&E2, Ubi has enough money to do that, especially looking at the financial success of Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, Tom Clancy games and the massive load of dance games they have (Just Dance, Experience games, etc.). They really just want to sell more copies.

Oh, can you link me to the quote? Sounds like an interesting read.

Don't get me wrong mate, I agree with you, I'm just attempting to explain the practices of the business end of the industry.

A lot of those titles were DotD in past days...

oh god this was back in November i'm almost sure I read that things were moving in the development cause of money issues ( i think the Economy ) so they are gonna see what the sales they make on upcoming games ( assuming AC:Revelations and Rayman ) but i can't recall where i read it.

Micheal Ancel was quoted during e3 as saying BG&E2 was something that would have to wait until the next generation. Apparently he didn't want to make the same compromises that he had to make during the first games development due to technical constraints, that leaked trailer of Jade running through that city is what he was trying to achieve on the current systems.
Seems like Origins has gotten a permanent price reduction to $40 now.
