EB GAMES Summer Sale 7/15-7/31 B&M & Online (mostly)
Its the most Neanderthal form of marketing . . . having more cases will catch the eye of the passing caveman.

There is no reason to gut soooo many copies.
I almost think they gut so many copies to encourage people to buy used. When they gut all the new copies of a game, a used copy of that same game in great condition for less money doesn't look that bad.

I can't disagree with that... when I was looking for Paper Mario at $19.99, the first store I went to knew nothing about it, and even though I asked if they had any new copies, they immediately brought out a used copy, without saying anything like "How about used?" They didn't realize I was saving $10 or $20 by finding the new copy.... next store didn't have any problem, but of course it was a display copy. Ah well.
But what's up with them not honoring a receipt where you used a gift voucher to pay for another product (in part)? For example I buy one game, and send away for my voucher. With that voucher I buy another game (what the hell else are you going to do with it?).

Using a voucher isn't part of a sale or discount. It's technically the same as cash, right? For this reason I was denied.
Say you bought syphon filter and got a voucher for that purchase. Then if try to use that to buy Paper Mario to receive ANOTHER voucher- they won't allow it. It makes sense if you think about it. You are already getting the game (paper mario) for a discounted price after the voucher ($20 off) so they want you to actually PAY for the remainder of it. They gave you that first syphon filter voucher for free (you didn't pay to get it like a gift card, so it's not really same as cash), so if you used that towards the remaining balance on Paper Mario it'd be like you got the game completely for free.

Also- Yes, I know, they have done deals where the give games away for free after the vouchers etc etc. Some times they mean to do this, and yes, it's an excellent deal. This unfortunately was NOT the case with paper mario. Everyone thinks EB is trying to screw them when that is not the case at all....there is a method behind the 'madness' guys I promise lol

Just came back from EB. Not a good selection of PS1 and N64 games. Only thing I might get would be Ogre Battle for the 64. They did have two copies of Wild Arms 2 but no instructions :(
If I buy Getaway in store, is the $20 voucher that they send usuable for online purchases?
No, it is not.
Where the heck are you guys with EB's that have classic games? I've been in 4 EB's around here, not a single one has any pre-Playstation games. I wish they were at least doing this thing online =/.
Most EB stores not inside of a mall seem to carry classic games.

The mall stores here have no classic games, but the ones in the strip malls or stand-alone EB's have a bin full of classic games.
Madness! I was going to spend my $10 GC on Bard's Tale and some PS1 games (to put my total purchase over $10 and take advantage of B2G1), but Bard's Tale was listed as $14.99 new in their computer, and the clerk had heard nothing of the sale! There weren't any signs or flyers anywhere in the store! This was in a free-standing stripmall EB Games. I guess I'll try a mall Electronics Boutique and see if the situation is any different.
Tell them to press F12 and see if the price goes down then...

I just joined like 3 weeks ago and already I bought more games than I have in the past 2 years combined.

Picked up the following at the eb in Midlothian, VA (Brandermill):

Bard's Tale $9.99 (had to get the guy to correct the price in the system)
Chrono Cross (Mint, complete, non-GH) $17.99
Star Wars EP1 Racer N64 $1.49 (had to get the price corrected here too)
Lode-Runner 3D N64 FREE
7th Saga $2.99

If you're looking for cheap N64 games, now is the time to get them. They had a ton of medicore games (Turok 2, etc.) for $2 bucks. With the B2G1F sale, you can definitely stock up. I can't vouch for everywhere, but both the gamestops and ebs in central VA seem to all be phasing out their previous-gen console stuff (pre-ps2).

There wasn't a single Eb with e new sealed copy of Bards Tale in my area. The copy eventually I ended up getting is new but it has 4 Large stickers on the front that won't come off. It pisses me off they do that.
You don't need to stop taking advantage of the EB gift vouchers, because they have some incredible deals. Instead, just follow the following steps....

1. If a game has a voucher for it, MAKE SURE YOU ARE BUYING THE GAME AT FULL PRICE. If it is on sale (whether you know or not) it is NOT honored. 'May *not* be combined with any other sale/discount' Assume that this is enforced for EVERY voucher.

2. If it says Hot Shots Golf Fore OR Syphon Filter...that means even if you bought BOTH, you only get a voucher for one. Even if it was your brother, mom, wife, etc etc that bought the other game. It's one per household.

3. Don't depend on that voucher for anything. Sometimes it does take quite awhile to receive it, yes, I understand that. So understand that this may happen and don't depend on the voucher to pay for your next pre-order that's coming out in a couple of weeks. Just chill, it'll arrive soon enough, and then it's just extra money for you!

I've heard some complaints about the rebate system, but really, there are clear rules/restrictions to these vouchers. You can't boycott the whole company because some of the sales associates may not know exactly what they are talking about! Just follow these rules and you should be fine...
well if this was true then none of the games would work since according to eb all 4 games are on sale

So if I use a $10 online gift voucher on Capcom Fighting Evolution to bring the price down to $10 will I still be able to get in a $20 gift voucher in for the game?

Edit:
I just call Ebgames about the Capcom Fighting Evolution voucher and the person I talk to said they won't honour the voucher if the game was bought at $19.99. I know it sucks but they can do what ever they want I guess.

Same here, the damned layered price tags and the idiotic game warranty sticker, another reason why I prefer GS now, those new stickers just roll off. Either way, a little Goo Gone did the trick and left it with a nice orange scent...

Do you know this to be true?

I just used a Hot Shots voucher to buy Getaway . . . fuck fuck fuck . . . I spend tons of money at EB . . . I would've used the voucher on other stuff and used credit to get Getaway if I knew that.

It is just not fucking posted anywhere.

yeap i called again friday night and they said THEY WILL NOT HONOR IT . They will honor it if you got it at 29.99....im taking my copy back tomorrow. I hope the DM is working tomorrow morning cause im going to tell them they can take their games and stick them up their ##$#$ until they get their stuff together. This would of been the 2nd rebate Eb ripped me off.

I did the same thing. Hopefully I will still get the rebate. What I should have done is use the voucher to buy a $20 gift card and use that gift card on getaway.

When will people learn you aren't going to get the games for free?

EB has given games away before, most recently Syphon Filter and HSG: Fore. With SP they were giving a $20 voucher for a game many of us bought for $10. It's ridiculous how they've handled the Paper Mario rebate. I'm just glad I decided against buying CFE.

They've obviously wised up. They're trying to reward (ie make up) the people who bought it at a higher price to bring it below what they are selling it for now.

I don't, however, see how people bitching about it not being valid anymore is warranted. You had your fun, now EB is taking away the deal. There are some that need to deal with it.

Yeah, EB has done it multiple times in the past like the Syphon Filter rebate mentioned plus they had Max Payne 2 last year for $9.99 w/ $20 gift voucher and XIII for $4.99 with a $10 voucher. So most people probably wouldn't expect there to be problems except for the few that had problems with Syphon Filter and the Paper Mario problem

That has to be the worst part of all of this . . . no one recieved notice from EB that they aren't hononing the PM rebate . . . we had to ask them. They could at least have the fucking balls to send out letters!

On the current rebate form it reads:
"May not be combined with any other offer or discount." I guess that covers using a voucher to buy it.

OK, so now I have to order another one and return the first one and hope to get store credit even though I used a voucher.

This is so lame. At least I found out now and not after 4 weeks of waiting for the voucher.

I can't see how this can be. The haven't "fixed" the site . . . they have to honor it . . .

Look at their site:
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/243881.asp

The voucher link is right there . . . you couldn't have gotten the game for a higher price because you have to get it after 7/15 to use the voucher and $20 is the going price.

I forgot this, but this is the big problem with their cover for the PM fiasco . . . they claimed "the voucher is only for those who bought the the game for $50" . . . yet the voucher started when the price was $20.

Maybe this is their new tactic to earn money?

On another note, I got a question. I received a vouvher about a year ago and I used it to buy Getaway. Would I still be eligable for the $20 voucher?

Not around here :( Hardly any of them carry the classic games. Ah, well.

I have an email in to EB about the price points of Rumble Roses at 24.99 and CFE at 19.99 and rebates working. If they say CFE won't work, im going to take it back with a printout of the email( even though its opened) and say i want my money back, and that I was deceived.

I got Hot Shots Golf Fore! back in May on sale for $19.99, sent in the $20 rebate form, and last week finally got my $20 gift voucher. I plan on doing the same thing with CFE. I'm not sure how they couldn't honor it if the only price they sold the game for during the rebate eligibilty period is $19.99.

I would think they wouldnt have a leg to stand on.....I bought both getway2 and CFE for 19.99 each in store (seperate sales of course)....and hope to get two vouchers back (sent in as me and the wife)....just as I got two 20$ vouchers back from hot shots golf and syphon filter. paid 20$ each at the time....(took forever) but they both showed. It says absolutely nothing on the mail in form about valid price paid.....if they wanted to press that issue, it should state "buy capcom fighter evolution for 29.99 in store and recieve a 20 gift voucher!!!" that they could enforce...or if god forbid, they bumped it down to 9.99, I can see getting a 10 gift voucher, I am cool with that, they dont have to pay me take it...but apparently one half the company doesnt know what the other half is doing and reducing prices and mucking up the works for them.....still, as it stands they should honor it. If they dont honor it, and I only get one, okay, I will accept that. If they burn me on both, no more on these things. Take my business elsewhere, they are already shady enough with the gutted copies (no it has never been touched by human hands routine, its new, really, trust me) I hardly ever buy anything there anyway, usually buy at target or best bwhere if you change your mind (before opening) the return and PM policies are at least somewhat fair.

( i once had EB try to sell me a used copy of driver3....when it dropped to 10.....only had a gutted copy...it was obviously used, and they wouldnt give me a break on it, I told them, give it to me for the used price, i'll take it, but if its supposed to be new, i want new, opened okay, but no baby hand prints, and scratches. no thanks. They said the used was 13....so it would be more, that makes alot of sense. sheeesh, this was at white flint EB games, bunch of idiots working in there. I have one EB in my area with cool people that understand the gamer/collector mentality, and wont give you a hard time, cause you want a factory sealed one (which shouldnt be considered a bonus if you get it that way), or at least not a shaqfued copy (what does that mean anyway??)
I can undersatand gutted copies of say a year old game or something like sonic heroes, but batman begins>? c'mon, keep them untampered with.

back when EB had those robotic pet things...my wife loves them......I got four of those gift vouchers (only stipulation was you could not use them together on a same purchase...so 50-20-20=10 wouldnt work......so had to do like a 29-20=10....and a 40-20=20 deal......) so who knows what they will do this time......they seem to make up rules after the fact......to deny a voucher....hope taht isnt the case here. I am pretty good at pleading my case in things like this, and will call and make a a stink if they openly say they are denying them....and at least waste some their valuable phone time....

the paper mario thing sounds like a complete renig on their part.......bad way to treat the customer on that.

I mean, if its true, like that guy said "they will only honor if you pay 29.99 for cfe.....and wont if its 19.99......................that isnt my fault, are we supposed to ask for them to charge more to qualify for their rebate? It simply states buy it an get 20$ gift voucher............

maybe it is a really sneaky way of doing business....saying you will get a 20$ gift voucher if you buy it, and (only follow through with their end if you pay 30 for it) then lower it to 20 for the duration so they can see it was outside the letter of the form......and in the end, net themselves a bunch of sales for that title, that maybe aint moving.............not everyone is going to return them if they decide to be shifty...i will keep mine, but will only get burned once and remember to never do again..............kinda like the numerous price drops for dvd box sets at blockbuster.....some good deals, like trek voyager season 2 for 26.99 prepaid in full (didnt get, but pestered them about their screw up to the point they gave us an additional 15$ on the return for our trouble, go figure), but essentially all computer screw ups, and they always try to pull a fast one, or BS you about it not coming in, so as to either have you pay the fixed price or just go away, thinking they just havent received it as yet......just aint worth the hassle. easier to just wait for the DDD 20% off sale twice a year......you learn who is realable and who isnt and EB isnt on that list.

this time I saved all the html and hope that will help. I dont see how they can have the price at $20 with a link to the voucher for two whole day. I can understand the situtation with paper mario because a memo was quickly sent, but how is the average shopper suppose to know there will be a problem with the rebate? Hopefully I wont have to cancel my order. It is more understanding with Paper Mario being a first party nintendo game, but there is no way i am paying more than tax and shipping for a game like CFE.

Phantom Dust is now giving one of those "The product you requested is currently not available" error screens.

Missed it. Oh well. No big deal.

It just depends on the limitations of the voucher. In the case I was referring to, he WAS turned down for that reason- I was just trying to make it make a little more sense to him. But because that was true in his case, does not mean it will be in yours (depends on game, the voucher, the price, etc etc). Honestly, the best place to find out info on vouchers/deals/sales is the catalog. You can call the EB Call center and request one to be sent out to you don't already receive it. OR- If you are *really* concerned about it, before you send your vouchers in- call the center and ask about the limitations- just to be safe. It's better than you sending it all in just to be turned down for you (or the sales associate at a store, whatever the reason) misunderstanding the deal....

Hey, I e-mailed EB with a question:
Hi, as you might be aware, you're stores are having a Summer Sale
that's
valid from 7/15/05 to 7/31/05 in your stores. In this sale, it says if
I
buy The Getaway: Black Monday (PS2 game), then I can receive a $20 EB
Games mail-in gift voucher. I purchased this game and another with a
voucher that I received almost a year ago. My question is, am I still
eligable for the $20 voucher? I don't know if that voucher that I
received a while ago and used would count as "other offer or
promotion".
If it does, then I wouldn't be eligable for this $20 mail-in voucher

Hello from EBgames.com,

Thank you for contacting EBgames.com.
As it is stated on the request form the game has to have been purchased
within a certain time frame. Your previous purchase is not valid for
the
promotion.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to respond to this
email. You can also give us a call at 877-432-9675, 7 days a week from
8 am to Midnight Eastern Standard Time.

Best Regards,
This thread has gone to crap...the title should be changed to "EB Summer Sale (rebate whiners need not apply)."
Well, since the deals are listed on page one and bragging about old-school finds goes in the "Deal/Shopping Discussions & Bragging Rights," what else is there to discuss other than whether or not EB will honor the vouchers???

well, the way the email looks that you sent EB, looks a little vague in wording, like maybe you bought the game a year ago and want to see if its elegible. I would reword it that you bought it on X date....using whatever voucher for payment, and then see what they say.

I thought it was a little vauge also and hoped they would understand it. I typed it at night so I didn't really care at that time. I think I will re e-mail them.
