FAQ:
How do I get those sticky yellow EB stickers off my case?
Buy a bottle of Goo Gone. They're usually $5 or less. They last forever and are a good purchase if you buy lots of used games. You can find them at drug stores or places like Wal Mart.

The bottle looks like this:

When is the EBgames morning update?
Usually between 7am and 7:30am eastern time, Monday through Friday. There are no updates on some holidays.

How do I know the update happened?
The number of in stock games will drop to zero, then rise back up. This takes less than a minute.

I had game X in my cart, but it disappeared while I was checking out. What happened?

Someone else beat you to it. Just because an item is in your cart, doesn't mean it's reserved for you until you finish checking out.

How do you know how many copies of game X are in stock?
When the item is in your cart, change the quantity to a large number (like 99). When the page refreshes, the quantity will be reduced to the number available.

Are there any coupons I could use to save money?
CAG15 gives you 15% off used merchandise.
CAG16 gives you 16% off $50 or more worth of used merchandise.
SAVER gives you free shipping on orders containing used games and accessories. For some reason, Gameboy games do not work with SAVER.

Quick question about the Persona 2 reprint. I've been seeing mint condition copies of Persona 2 at gamestop and EB, but they're always stickered as used. I have a feeling
that they're getting new copies in and marking them used. Am I right?

When i bought some dreamcast games at my local ebgames store they would not work either, it seems to be REALLY hard to find working dreamcast games nowdays, i only got one that was working and it was crazy taxi. I had to return the games but it was no problem, i have gotten so much non working stuff from ebgames its not even funny but its never a problem to return it. I do have a store thats about 5 min from my house so i do not mind, and they never put up a fight about the return policy.

Generally speaking, yes.
you can call us Aaron Burr the way we dropping Hamiltons... on these games.
Oh dear lord, I surely cannot LOL any harder. XD

That song is my ring tone, so whenever people call, I start laughing.
Call them up, explain the problem and they will send out a prepaid mailer . . . at least they used to (I've done 2 mail returns, but it's been awhile).
They're still doing it. Although they sometimes try to talk me into returning it to a store, I usually tell them that I don't want the hassle and they send the mailer. Lately they just offer to send a mailer right off the bat.

I too have had problems with their used stuff lately. Roughly a third or so of the PS1 games they have been sending me end up not working, working really horribly(super choppy), or the disk is nearly broken in half.
Alone in the Dark for Dreamcast finally arrived. Disc 2 is defective; won't boot. Thanks for nothing EB. This is the third Dreamcast game you've sold me that is broken, and the third time I have to drive 30 miles to my nearest EB to get my store credit, as opposed to actual refund.
If you are wanting that game(for Dreamcast) really badly I have a complete copy in really good condition I might be willing to sell/trade.

My district manager talked to me today and said that I am now banned from returning games at any of the stores in his district. Darn EBGames.com...getting me in trouble with my stores. The bad thing is that I had a copy of X-men Legends 2 that I bought for a friend that I have to return because his sister got him the same thing.

Trying to decide if I should continue buying online....

It's people like us trading in bad games...

You could start requesting the prepaid return mailer that is currently being discussed.
Thanks. Good luck with your closing. Ill probably still get it, since I have some credit. Im sure it will be my last game purchase for a while though. As Home Depot and Menards will be taking all my money now.
i swear the only time you go to home depot is when the wife wants something done.. its like the guy store made for girls to drag their significant others into just to say "hey wouldn't this be cool if we did this on our house".. granted i realize its practical purposes but in all reality.. yeah.. i hate home depot..

anyways.. i do own guitar hero..i haven't stopped playing it in a month..
You're absolutely right. And this is a big difference (locally for me) between Home Depot and Menards . . . Menards is a no-frills place and you will see more contractors and workers using the store. Home Depot is much more positioned to appeal to women (hence the gardening focus).

I have pretty much come to hate the whole idea of "home improvement" . . . its just a black hole of project to project with no end in sight . . . work-wise or money-wise.

Especially if you're like me and chose to buy an older house because of its (gag) "CHARM."

Man, you've hit a nerve here . . . :)

Same here. To make it worse, one of my Christmas presents from my wife was a $50 gift card to Home Depot. Could there be a less subtle hint? The stupidest thing about it is........we live in an apartment!! What the hell am I going to "fix-up" in an apartment? I guess I could buy $50 worth of industrial strength tub-clog remover.

*sigh*

My Guitar Hero came today . . . I'm probably the last to get it . . . but get this, the game is sealed within the open set. What is the "Sticker Sheet" . . . I didn't see it.

Oh, the stickers have been applied to the guitar . . . it must've been someone's second and they traded it in . . . oh well, hope it works.
Did anyone who ordered Steel Battalion get it yet?

I got mine but it was just the game. The receipt clearly said "Game + Contoller" and the UPS label was for a 21 pound package but all I got was the game in a little box. Now I have to send it back and get a refund. me = disappointed. I'll use that money on something better ... like the gigantic lego Star Destroyer. Yeah. Thats the ticket.
I got the second order on the first recent time it was updated.(One more was back up on the next day) Mine got backordered so I'm waiting for them to get one to ship to me since they've already taken my damn money without shipping.

I got the -Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories Premium - Pre-Play

it was the NORMAL Version.. came with case no manual.... I just either toss it in the trash or in the junk pile.... Its not worth returning a 3 buck game.

The reason we are all getting bad stuff from ebgames is because they never test the stuff, i was even told this by one of the employees at the store near me, he told me i could return anything used that doesnt work because they dont test the stuff, and also that i could return as much of it as i wanted to. Oh yeah, and when i return used stuff i get cash back, not store credit. It is a bit of a hassle to keep returning stuff there but the fact that the prices are so cheap make up for the hassle, and they always have the stuff i need. The store is also only 5 min from my house so that greatly makes up for most of the hassle.

Basically what ebgames does is take in systems/games/accessories for trade and give people credit, then they take the item, stick it in a plastic bag, sticker it and out to the floor it goes, so they never know what items work and what doesnt. As for used systems, all they do is turn it on and see if it works, thats all they do, nothing cosmetic is taken into consideration when someone trades in a system. The same credit is also given to each person for each item no matter what the condition, and its also sold the same way, one price for each system no matter the condition.

well considering all the man hours it would take to do through testing on all and every game/system that is taken in.. they'd probably have to have a guy working full time at every location.. its just easier to have a return policy then pay someone to make sure the used games are quality.

thats just my thoughts though.. if anyone wants the guitar hero sticker sheet i'd totally get rid of mine.. i'm not really into them.

Yeah, thats what they told me, they would also have to have the systems to test in and stuff. It would also probably result in higher prices for the merchandise since they would have to pay someone to test.

But then there is the situation of the guy from this thread getting banned from returning a lot of stuff, if you bought a lot of stuff and it doesnt work then you should be able to return it, as long as you have a reciept or a packing slip from ebgames.com. I see no harm in returning a lot of stuff as long as you are not doing it without the reciepts.

no i totally think the "banned from returning" thing is fucked up. i totally agree there.. from what i understand vietgurl (the one who got banned) is also an employee (or was) so maybe there are different rules for employees on returning.

my feeling about this banned from returning thing is that it's probably not corporate policy but that the manager simply doesn't want more returns than he has to put up with as far as his numbers go. whenever i try to return something i always get the feeling that they discourage it.

Once I was trying to return a game and the guy working there was telling me some BS about if I returned the game, it would mess up their inventory. What BS. After a few minutes of arguing, you bet I got my money back.

It makes you wonder why they would even advertise it as as being the Preminum Edition. A few months back the original morning update guy (dafoomie) ordered Shenmue: Limited Edition and all he got was a normal disc only copy of Shenmue. Weird.

It sounds like you should complain to corporate about the manager's policy and how its stated on the back of the packing slip that ebgames stores do accept returns. If the district manager is being an ass then you have the right to complain, as being banned is clearly not corporate policy as its listed on the back of the packing slip. The back of the packing slip says nothing about being limited to the amount of things you can return that have been bought from the website.

As long as you are showing proof that you bought it from the website as a legit packing slip or legit store reciept then i dont think there should be a problem with returning stuff in any amount. If you were returning stuff without a reciept then it would be an issue since there is potential for fraud there.

I worked at EB for 3 years and my store tested every system that was traded in. Games are another story, but the good EBs should test their systems.
Testing all the games would be ridiculous, but we took everything back that wasn't cracked and anything that looked like it wouldn't play got a pink defective slip and sent back in the weekly shipment to home office.

I buy a few guides for full price. I just recently bought the Resident Evil Anthology guide for $30 at my EBgames. I usually buy the guides with nice artwork as I hardly ever use strategy guides when playing games.

Mine hasn't arrived yet. In fact, the tracking number still says that it was processed and shipped from Philadelphia on the 7th. No new information.
Is there usually an update on Martin Luther King Day? I'm guessing so but what the hell do I know..heh.
Most likely, as generally on these types of weekends, they have so type of specials. But don't hold me to it.

I think that just government run places and a few other lucky bastards (schools) get the day off as well.

cool deal, that's kind of what I was thinking.
damn that's a great price. did that come in stock today?
Yep, I ordered one. Plus the store locator on the side said a lot of my local stores had some in stock, so your stores might have some too.
