Ebgames to me, Cancelling preorder is fraud!!

so far as i'm aware, we're getting Nascar 2006 for the same price we'd get any game. However, you have to understand that the vast majority of our company's income comes from pre-played game sales. In this case, more often than not, we're reselling the games for more than the 12.50 the customer is getting anyway. And even if the customer CAN buy Backyard Wrestling 2 for the PS2 or XBOX for 9.99 used, and then trade it in for 12.50 in a promotion, that's an oversight on the company's fault. They can't blame people for noticing and taking advantage of such a great deal.

As for cancelling a preorder, I was not privy to the new rule in effect until moments ago. Previous to it, there was NOTHING anywhere saying it could not be done. Certain associates are wary of customers trying to capitalize on a good deal, and that's why you were probably shut down. I say, anything the computer will let me do, and anything some random joe walking in off the street can do, is fair game for both customers and employees alike (this is why i refused my employee discount on the games i purchased to trade in towards nascar 2006, to maintain that level playing field). practically every other person at my location feels the same way, with maybe one exception ( a tool who has been with the company for 8 years as an assistant manager ).

i don't know, does that answer your question?

It does actually, it's nice to have your input, I appreciate it.

Future forecast, do you see a decrease in pre-orders due to the new pre-order policy, or possible customer complaints?

I've gotten in on two deals recently, and I've never had cooler deals than these. Obviously, the Nascar deal, trading in 4 games with a combined trade-in value of $13 for $50 in credit, and the Nintendogs deal, where I traded in 3 GBA games, purchased for $14 altogether, for $30 on Nintendogs.

So, if I still have $5 down on Nascar, can I get it back since the game's already released, and I don't intend to pick it up?

Oh, and what about this issue being considered fraud? I think it's nothing even remotely close to fraud. I don't know how morally right it is, though. My mother thought it was cheating while my father told me to go for it.

This is the basic point that keeps me from feeling that I'm doing anything morally wrong with EB deals.

The company is making money and my trades are a good thing. I know that some prefer to see the world in sharp black and white focus, but I thrive on the complicated shadows.

BTW, the best deal was the 3 for $40 deal with PSP games . . . $13.33 per game!

So, they're changing the policy, eh? I wonder how much influence this thread had on that. Sounds like it's been going on for quite some time before now.

There is one 100% Kosher method left: just take the pre-ordered game and list it on eBay/Half.com/Overstock/Amazon and get 90% or more of the value. You can even list a "preorder release: shipped the day of release to the winning bidder", as long as you clearly state that in the auction.

Speaking of eBay:

You sold 3 PSP games for $13 each? that seems kind of low, I would have thought most PSP games would be worth at least $20 used.

I'm pretty certain he's referring to a deal wherein you trade 3 games FOR 1 psp game. since psp games were like 40$, you got 13.33 each... something like that.

Please slap an EB sticker on my foreheads & call me Pre-Played.

/me points to his signature for the first time...

The deal was tradein 3 PO games and get a PSP game free (value $40).

So, yes . . . $13.33 each which worked out pretty well doing things like getting $27 for the two GC Super Monkey Ball games and buying Deluxe for the Xbox for $30 with a $10 voucher offer.

This is what I might do with my NASCAR - I picked it up yesterday, and got a gift receipt. If they won't take it back tomorrow, I'll just sell it on ebay. I'll still make more than my 4 original games cost.

And DuelLady - I appreciate your points, but very few people are trading $6 worth of games it for these deals - generally it costs around $20 for the 4 games IF you are lucky enough to find $5 PO games at TRU or Target or wherever. (Not to mention that the PO restriction pretty much eliminates the use of "crap" titles). Yeah, the pathetic, lame-ass, rip-off, EB TRADE value might be only $6, but that's not what they will sell them for and is not the inherent worth of the games (they are worth much more being sold on ebay or traded into Gamerush!). Oh, and I would NEVER open the NASCAR game and trade it to EB for a pathetic $20 (thus turning $20 cash into $20 in EB credit - a loss of value as far as I'm concerned!). Gamerush would give me $37.50 for it after bonus. That is my 3rd option - so, really, it is a no lose situation WHATEVER EB decides to do.

NASCAR doesn't appear to get much on ebay - around $30 - $35. If the games you traded in were worth more than that total, then you deserve to lose money :D. Are there people out there who are going to complain we suggest selling them on ebay? Are we evil for "hoarding" NASCAR '06? Sorry, I just think that is funny :D. I'm sure someone out there is thinking that.

I do agree with you, DuelLady, that it would be horrible from both sides to tell people they can only get the $5.75 or whatever back if they try to return it. It just isn't worth the trouble. You spelled it out from the EB employees side (though the account was definitely biased :D). I would also say it would be bad business because it would emphasize or "call out" the very low trade-in values which the customer may not have noticed when they did the deal. It would just be better to refuse them entirely. And it would be impossible to return the actual games used in the deal of course (well maybe not impossible, but do you really want to have to go find them in the store, assuming they are still there?).

However, if they do adopt this policy (I'm not clear if it was supposed to happen already or not?) they had better PRINT this on the damn receipt and make it clear to the customer when they do the preorder. Then there will be no problems :D.

In ANY case, I've been using the $5 bonus deal at EB anyway recently (and not the preorder deals) as it is a bit more flexible and saves extra trips/hassles/moral discussions entirely. Unless, that is, that you are one of these people who disapproves of buying new games at another place and trading them in at EB. I know people have had issues at Gamerush with this. Personally, I feel I'm greatly improving the quality of their stock (in terms of scratch-free, complete games) over the usual games they get in.

Sorry - this is turning into a rant... The recent rash of EB preorder deals (and now the $5 bonus) is the ONLY thing getting me into EB these days. They are pulling a small amount of my business from Gamerush because of these things - and that is probably a good thing for them. I hadn't done any trading at EB since the $10 bonus on 2 trades back in Feb until these deals started up (I missed the PSP game deal - I just thought that was too good to be true and never checked it out!).

Wall of Text'd.

Yeah, though, I've got extra EB credit, and no use for it. After I found this place I don't know if I need to buy games at retail anymore.
