Ever had the feeling you were missing out on a great system with great video games? Felt the console itself was too expensive to own and waited and waited for a price drop or deal? Ever find deals on video games that you couldn't play...just yet? Post here. Here are some questions to consider:

  • What made you buy the game(s) before the console?
    What game(s) did you buy?
Did you ever buy the console? why or why not?
If not, did you keep your games or sell/ trade them off?
Do you regret making your decisions or not? why?

For me, It was the PSP. It was too damn expensive to own in the first place and for awhile, I was a narrow minded Nintendo fanboy. I listened to all the propaganda to stay away from the PSP. But it wasn't until recently that the PSP had some ports that I was actually interested in.

I put my naive Ninty conscious aside and I bought Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth and Tekken: Dark ressurection beforehand in anticipation of trying to find a deal on a PSP.

A fellow CAGer has helped me on my endeavor to get a PSP and I shall be getting my PSP this coming week. He Also was able to give me Street Fighter Alpha Max. Another CAGer sold me MGS digital novel. And yet another CAGer posted the fry's deal for Megaman Powered up and Metal Gear Ac!d 2. So in total I have 6 PSP titles to test out when my PSP comes in. I'm hoping to god that the gamer inside me will be happy and content when I finally get to test out these games. If not, well maybe another CAGer will be content with these titles when I put them up for trade or sale...if I do that is.

In the end, whether the PSP is good or not, I won't regret the decision of getting a PSP. Being able to NEVER pay retail price again for video games anymore is all thanks to you guys. Here's to CAG

I bought Death Jr. and I don't own a PSP yet.

Death Jr. looked like fun and the price was definately right. As for a PSP I'm waiting for a few more games that have been announced to come out as well as a possible price drop and redesigned unit. I'm also waiting to see how the whole Homebrew/Firmware thing shakes up. I want to be able to play Homebrew and the current games. When that happens I'll get a PSP, in the meantime I'll continue to acquire cheap games for it.

I bought Final Fantasy VII before getting a PS1, but I knew I was getting one soon. I traded for Twisted Metal Black before getting a PS2. I was trading for one at the time, but the guy backed out. I got a few Sega CD games with a bunch of Genesis Games and a Nomad, but never got a Sega CD. I bought a few Super Nintendo games when I didn't have a SNES because I wanted to own the games I played on emulators a lot. I bought Perfect Dark Zero for 360 and haven't got one yet, but it was basically free ($20 with $20 rebate).

I actually have the LE of Perfect Dark Zero and Ridge Racer 6 for 360 sitting on my shelf but no 360 to play them on....

Mostly cuz I got both games for 1980 Yen each (about $18) and I'll be able to play the $40 Chinese versions of new games (with English!) on a Japanese 360.

I'll probly pick one up after payday this month, but I'm curious to see if that PGR3 bundle is going to be available here too..

What made you buy the game(s) before the console?
Found the game used at a really cheap price.

What game(s) did you buy?
Odama

Did you ever buy the console? why or why not?
Yes, but I returned in two weeks later.

If not, did you keep your games or sell/ trade them off?
I traded the game in, for more than I bought it for actually.

Do you regret making your decisions or not? why?
Yes, I thought I would try console gaming one more time, but no, I still hate it. Portable only for me.

Well, not for console, but I bought Simcity 2000 and Civilization before I got a PC. It was around June 1995 and I was about to get a real fat commission check so I knew I would be getting a PC. Staples had both games on sale so I purchased them both. Don't regret it at all.

If you don't have the system, why wouldn't you just wait?

In all likelihood the price of the game is going to go down while you wait to buy the system. It's not like the games for the PSP are going to be hard to find.

I remember trading for Super Mario 64 a couple weeks before I got my N64. God that was an awesome game.

What made you buy the game(s) before the console?
It was a great trade

What game(s) did you buy?
Super Mario 64

Did you ever buy the console? why or why not?
Got the N64 a couple weeks later with my summer job money

If not, did you keep your games or sell/ trade them off?
Kept it for a while, until I traded it towards Goldeneye

Do you regret making your decisions or not? why?
Nope, I still enjoy the memories to this day, and its trade help me work to Goldeneye Champ at University of Delaware

The year after PS2 came out, I knew that I was getting one as my Christmas gift. I asked my grandparents for MGS2 with this knowledge, and they bought it and showed me it to make sure it was the right game about a month before Christmas, so technically it was bought before and I had it to play as soon as I got the system. I followed it up shortly after with FFX for a great start to a new console.

I bought Madden and DOA for PS2 a week or so before the PS2 was released. Just made it a few less things to buy the day of release and gave me more time to laugh at the 'tards who didnt reserve their PS2 waiting in line and fighting over the few extra systems in stock:)

I had about 7 DS games before I bought the ds lite. I knew I was getting it in June, so I started getting games around Janurary.

I bought Condemned: Criminal Origins and Perfect Dark Zero before I got my 360.

I had them preordered, along with a 360, but I wasn't able to get a 360 because of how limited they were.

Picked up Kameo and Perfect Dark for 360 this last week when they were $20. Was planning on getting a 360 this fall anyways.

I bought Kameo and PDZ before the 360 was launched.

I also bought Pocket Kingdom and WWE Aftershock for N-Gage for a couple bucks each in case I ever find a cheap N-Gage

I bought Taiko Drum Master for PS2 because one of my roommates had a PS2. I've also got 3 XBox games (Morrowind, NCAA 2005/Top Spin, and Sega GT/Jet Set) that cost me under $10 total around May. I've considered getting an XBox for a while, but still haven't got around to it.

I had a whole stack of cheap GC games before I had the GC. I knew I'd buy the console eventually, and by waiting I managed to score that bundle that BB offered a few years ago (extra controller and a copy of Mario Kart: DD).

thats like buying tires before you buy a car what the hell is the point? i did buy a n64 but becuse of the high price for it at the time i had to wait till my next check to be able to afford a game for it. so for the next 2 weeks id turn it on every now and then to see n64 logo come on and then cut it off and wish i could hurry up and get paid.

then when i finally got paid mario 64 was sold out everywhere so i had to make due with stellar titles like killer instinct gold and some of the other crap that was out there untill about a few more weeks later i finally got my copy of mario 64. the last great mario game.

I just got PDZ: Limited Edition for $20 when CC had the wrong picture in the ad. I figured might as well go for it since it's the LE version.

I knew I was getting a XBox for Christmas, so I loaded up during all of the clearances and sales during that time. I got Halo 2 after trading in 5 other games (EBgames trade), picked up a few when TRU was running a deal on all games under $20 (the 2 for $30 sale with a $10 off coupon).
thats like buying tires before you buy a car what the hell is the point?
Generally cars come with tires.

Got Point Blank 2 for PS1 before I had a PS1. I also bought Zone of the Enders (w/MGS2 demo) before I got a PS2. Lastly, got Valkyrie Profile before I got a PSP.

i got some psp games because i knew i was getting a psp soon

What made you buy the game(s) before the console? i wanted to have games available to play right when i got the psp
What game(s) did you buy? wipeout pure, twisted metal head on
Did you ever buy the console? why or why not? i won it in a contest
If not, did you keep your games or sell/ trade them off? N/A
Do you regret making your decisions or not? why? no, because i love having a portable ps2

I did this with my PS2. I bought Beyond Good and Evil, Onimusha 1 and Silent Hill 1.

I was going to get a PS2 anyway, but was on vacation and didn't want to buy a PS2 where I was at. It would've been a hassle to get it back home.

I bought Beyond Good and Evil before the system too, but it was Xbox not PS2. I've also bought Mario Golf and F Zero GX for Gamecube and Timesplitters and Karaoke Revolution Vol. 3 for PS2 and I own neither system (yet).

I bought a couple launch 360 titles a week before the 360 came out.. does that count?

Other than that, never.. in the past when I bought a game, it was a rarity and I took it home and played it immediately. These days, I don't plan on getting any systems I don't have already (except the Wii) so I don't buy for those consoles.

I did almost buy a game for XBOX before I knew it was gonna be backwards compatible (Doom 3) but I backed out because it woulda been the PH version.

I've sinned in this regard several times. I got several PS2 games (I don't remember which ones, but Katamari Damacy was one of them) before finally getting a PS2. I still haven't gotten an Xbox or PSP, but I got the Halo Triple Pack and KOTORII from the CC sale and Metal Gear Solid Digital Graphic Novel when it came out. I don't regret buying any of the stuff.

I bought Final Fantasy VII before i got my PSX and I got Metal Gear Ac!d before I could afford my PSP. Both grat games and I recently got rid of FFVII cause I am getting it on PSP when the emulation service launches.

I snagged a few DS games before getting my DS. Super Mario 64 from Wherehouse.com and Advance Wars/Kirby/Lunar from a B2G1F. This was all once I knew I was getting a DS in a couple weeks.
Generally cars come with tires.
ok how about this example its like buying rubbers for when im going to bang your mom only she actually prefers me to go in raw? is that a good example?

Funny, but not necessary.try this analogy: buying batteries before buying the electronic device.

I bought DOA4, DOA4 Arcade Stick, Kameo, PDZ: LE, Table Tennis, 360 Intercooler and the Plug and Play Charge kit before I got my Xbox360.

Let me think.

I bought Blue Stinger 10 hours before I bought my Dreamcast.

I bought 9 PS2 games (Aroound 3 months aheard) and two OPM disc, before I got a PS2.

I bought Wipeout Pure before I bought a PSP.
