Eye of Judgement Discussion Thread

In theory yeah, while the game does come with a starter deck, you're supposed to want to pick up boosters or theme decks to collect and play with. However, apparently it's possible to circumvent whatever security measures where used in the printing process, so I guess you could get by with just the starter set. Either way, though I'm still getting this game and will probably continue to support the game if Sony/Hasbro/WotC does.

The Japan RSS Feed on the PSN network stated that the EOJ expansion sets are on track to come out in Feb 08 and June 08. Hopefully, a domestic release or PSN update will occur at the same time.

I heard somewhere that only 100,000 eyetoy/EOJ bundles was produced for the 1st batch US launch release, so grab them while it's hot.

already stated like about 3 or 5 posts above you... good news though.

I don't like card games, but I just think the concept is so cool. :) I hope they update it so the cheaters won't be able to play online some how.

What are some of your impressions if you got it already?

Target had booster packs (didn't see theme decks). They should be in the CCG/Baseball card section.
Anyone know what stores have theme decks/booster packs -_-

Can't find any in my area...
I bought a few boosters with my game earlier and I ended up getting one of those blank ultra rare cards. Can't wait to see what it does.

Gratz and Pics plz  :)

I'm no TCG'er myself, but I used to collect trading cards a long while ago. That side of me always digs the "ultra-rares".

FYI - Kotaku ran a story about how it's incredibly easy to print cards from the internet and scan them into the game. Even though Sony had said they used "special ink", it's a total lie - they even give a how-to.

It's only a matter of time before HQ scans end up on the web, completely defeating the purpose of buying booster packs and collecting cards.

I bet people are going to start selling copies of cards on ebay now instead of the cards themselves. Does really put a damper on the collectibility. I'll probably just stick with the deck it comes with for a while.

Ugh, Amazon shows EoJ in stock, but mine says it wont ship til 11/10-11/14.

damn I just bought the game and people already found a way to cheat. I hope that Sony will find a way to stop that from happening. In the future each card needs to be numbered so that if card 123 is used online in more than x number of consoles.. maybe 20, then those users get banned, or perhaps the card is deemed invalid.

The card copy thing doesn't damper my desire to buy more cards, but it does kill my desire to play strangers online.

I like this game. It is neat. I can't wait to get new cards and a better understanding of the game. WotC make cool cards, this doesn't let down. Who developed the rules to the game?

so far so good, I'm learning very slow. I've never really been into card games like this, but I'm giving it a go.

You're not kidding there. I can tell I'm getting better with every game, but there is a bunch of stuff to remember like don't put fire on water. :bomb:

My Target had both back in the PS3 section. I got the Fire and Biolith themes.

I picked up the only copy they received at my Gamestop last night...I'm slowly getting the hang of the game, but I do have a question. I'm sure this is answered in the videos but I didn't watch them all...

When it's my turn, why can't I place a card on any open space? It seems I'm limited to just spaces that are highlighted in white....what's determining those spaces? Or am I crazy and is it that the camera just wasn't picking up the card when I placed it?

Your first summon can be on any square but after that anything you summon must be placed adjacent to any (yours or opponent's) other creature. That's what the white borders are indicating.

This game is CRAZY addicting. I was just playing a few games with the unaltered starter and I kept doing the "just 1 more game" thing for over 3 hours last night!

Same here. I'm loving this game. Just played with some guy in Japan with no lag. :)

LOL I put someone on a wrong spot and they died instantly... lol I need to get some extra cards... up my deck.. I did cheat w/ the computer, I thought you could just use whatever cards were in your prescence. But later on I started drawing cards the right way... even shuffled them.

I did that a few times. It was like, "oh this'll be great, I have just enough to destroy... wait -2 health... fuckING HELL"

I almost pulled the trigger and bought the game at Target yesterday. I also noticed that they had not only boosters but some theme decks (in CCG section/ not in video game section)

Good news from Amazon today:

Hello from Amazon.com.

We are writing about the order you placed on September 21 2007 08:56 PDT
(Order# REDACTED). The item(s) listed below will actually
ship sooner than we originally expected:

"Eye of Judgement"
Estimated arrival date: 10/29/2007

Can't wait until it arrives. Feel free to add me as a friend and we can play. Maybe we can get some CAG tournaments going?

I decided to wait a bit on this... is it true you can play without the PS3? if so I may pick up 2 decks to see if I like it and then buy the full thing later.

I saw some of the decks (I think there are 3 types excluding the one with the game) and really liked what I saw.

Yes, you can play it like a regular TCG/CCG.

Gah, my order is still in FV limbo land. Ah, well...as long as I get it I guess. :p

I think this next week then I'll be buying two decks... Whenever I start a TCG I usually buy two starter decks and then test the gameplay to see if it's worth investing.

Also, does this game have a fully fledged official site? all I can find is a bare bones playstation.com page.

also, the cheapest place to get this is amazon?

The game? I guess if you are talking in stock, yes. $66 shipped I think from Amazon. I went through FV.com for $59 shipped. But they apparently did not get the game yet.

And yeah, the PS site is the only "official" US one I'm aware of.

Looks like you might just need a couple of sharpies to do it
That sucks, I guess the only thing one can do is play with someone they know isn't cheating.

I'm guessing making it so it is impossible to cheat like that is a pretty hard thing to do.
Using copied cards isn't cheating, it's theft. They can't do anything special with them, and there isn't anyway to tell online if someone has copies or not. The cards a pretty balance so don't worry about the handful of people that may use copies. Most of us like having the actual cards.

Actually I don't think you can play w/o the PS3...there are elements for each board space tat only show up on the screen and are not on the mat.

FS

You can easily just write the Element names and icons on pieces of paper to put on the mats. Then flip them over when you do things like field quakes.

However, the draw of the game is the ease of play for all players by having the PS3 handle the rules for you.

No, you can play the game like a regular CCG w/o the PS3. It won't be as interesting w/o the PS3 calculating everything for you and giving you the pretty graphics and effects on screen, but it's "playable".

I personally wouldn't be playing it that way though.

I found decks and boosters today at TRU...Oxford Valley,PA here. Check in the games section, not video games.

I'm FlashStash on PSN if anyone wants to play! Signing on now!

I picked it up on Thursday, got around to playing it today. I was a little hesitant. I don't want to get into a money suck with the cards, but it looked really neat (saw the trailer) and the positive reviews made it sound like something I shouldn't miss, given my love of card games.

So far, I'm very pleased. The game is challenging. There's a lot to remember, and I wouldn't want to play without the PS3 (yet). There's the elements, the directions, the various attacks, counterattacks, and weak points. Plus, I'm still at the point where what a card actually does can be surprising. Flame Magus, for example, initially looked a lot more powerful than it turned out to be, but I think there's fun to be had with that card.

It's a little bit like Duel Masters, a little bit like MtG, and so it feels both familiar and bewildering.

Couldn't find cards for sale today, not at GS, TRU, or Target.

Well folks I won my first match against the CPU!!!!!!! I never liked card games, like this MtG, etc but I'm really enjoying EoJ; this game could have easily been a card game, with no physical cards, but having the game (PS3) keeping track of the game really helped bring me to keep playing this game. I don;t have to run the game [keep track of rules] but rather I can just focus on playing the game.

blandstalker - you might want to call around for the cards, I got some today from GS, I picked up the Biolith Scourge, and Earth decks. and a booster pack - the best card I got from that was Green Lycanthrope.

That's cool. I like that the PS3 handles all the calcs and such so I can focus on higher level stuff. Sounds like this is the kind of game I'll really enjoy so I hope that FV ships me the game sometime soon. :p.

I think I'll just start buying theme decks if Amazon puts 'em in my gold box now.

Edit: Scratch that. I just checked and Amazon is giving a 1 to 2 month lead on theme decks now. 1 to 2 months! Yoiks...

How are you guys doing the lighting? I was having some trouble with it being to light or too dark :) I had every lamp in the house out to the card table. :) Sometimes turning the lamp on and off would help where the "correct" amount of light would hit the card and it would show.

The natural light coming through the window from outside seemed to really work best but I have 2 problems with that. 1) i want to be able to play all night and 2) i don't want the neighbors seeing me play such a nersy game. :)

That being said when it was working quickly I was really enjoying it! Very fun! But my wife didn't seem to understand it that well...

Man, Amazon better send me a shipping notice tomorrow. I preordered last week with the free shipping option. My estimated shipping date is November 10th. However if you order right now and choose the 1 or 2 day option, they're guaranteeing that they ship it out Monday. I guess thats how it works, the 'free shipping' costs them so they throw any who choose it on the backburner.
