- Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon (DS), Sin & Punishment 2, and Mario & Luigi 3 is coming to the US in 2009
- Confirms some things about the DSi: Two cameras, AAC music playback, built-in Opera browser that is supposed to run faster than the previous one.

- (After the press conference) Cave Story is coming to Wiiware!

Tokyo MEGATONS:
- DSi, the newest redesign of the Nintendo DS, was confirmed to feature two cameras, a SD card slot, a music player, bigger screens, no GBA slot, thinner size than the DS Lite, built-in applications like a web browser and music and photo software, a DSi shop where you can download new games and apps (With free 1000 points for your first connection before March!), and much more. Official DSi web site

UPDATE 10/05: From Strell's post - Iwata confirmed that you will still have to copy the games from the SD to the internal memory to play them. Not much of a storage solution unless they vastly improve transfer speeds.
- "Wii de asobu" collection - Some GameCube games, re-released with Wii control options. Announced games include: Metroid Prime 1 & 2, Pikmin 1 & 2, Chibi-Robo, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, and Mario Tennis. (From KingBroly)

Yes, so anyways, the Fall 2008 Nintendo Press Conference will be taking place October 2nd and 3rd in Tokyo (With another conference in San Francisco on the same dates), before the Tokyo Game Show. Looking at the time difference, this should mean that the news should start coming out either later tonight, tomorrow, and/or Friday. They promised that "new products" would be shown, and so far, the two big rumors making their rounds for the DS and Wii are:
-DS Redesign with Camera and Music Player. CONFIRMED - DSi
-An "old franchise" will be revived for the Wii. CONFIRMED - Punch-Out!

These rumors will either be confirmed or killed by tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, as they both specifically rely on being shown at this press conference. Of course, this topic can be used to keep track of and discuss any useful news, if any, for the Wii and DS that may come out of the press conference.

Really all I want to hear is that I can now play games off of my SD card and I can play save files off of there as well.

Anything else will be icing on the cake.

Also, you forgot to mention the rumor Nintendo will preview the Wii HD set to release in 2011.

I know that rumor has popped up recently, but unlike the other ones, there is no connection to this specific conference, and we still have a ways to go until 2011.

The old remake is probably Kid Icarus. According to a lot of sources it should have been revealed ad E3 so I am guessing now is the time.

Yeah, Kid Icarus is probably the safest bet, since there have been whispers about it far longer than any other franchise. Following it, in terms of probability of revival, would be Punch-Out!, since there were some comments after e3 that the Wii-MotionPlus was made for a game like it, and I'd say that Pilotwings would be third (For this, I'm not counting "return to form revivals" like a rail-shooter Star Fox or a 2D Metroid).

This conference will make or break the hardcore gamer support for the Wii and Nintendo knows it. They know they need to get the hardcore interested in the Wii soon or they'll lose out on that smaller(yet very profitable) market to the 360 or the PS3.
Anyone know what time the conference is and if any sites are going to be live bloging it?
I would like to know this also.

That's what I'm trying to find out about now. So far, the only site who mentioned it was Kotaku in a poll, but even they would only say "tonight." We should hear more details when it gets closer to the event, unless there is some embargo in place. It's Thu 11:16 AM in Tokyo now.

It's like you read my mind. This event is make or break for me. If Nintendo doesn't deliver tomorrow, I'm moving on and throwing my money towards Sony and/or Microsoft this Christmas.

Look, if you've reached the point where Nintendo's 3 whole products for expanded crowds somehow erases the 30+ years they've been in the gaming business, you should just pack up your shit and move on now, because you're entirely gone. There's nothing expressly wrong with that, but don't sit around to drama queen it up when they inevitably don't announced the dozen and a half specific things you think need to happen in order to retain your measly dollar - that's just pompous.

I'd love for this thread - assuming the conference goes even halfway as nicely as I wish, maybe even a tenth - to not be bogged down by the same useless tired comments I've had to read for the last 2 years. Is that really so much to ask?

Someones grumpy tonight.

But seriously, the core gamer market is still a very profitable one for Nintendo. Don't believe me? Then check out the numbers Brawl did. It was the fastest selling game in Nintendo history and it came out just this year.

Nintendo had it's hand forced by how bad the E3 reaction was. Look at how Iwata apologized for how bad their E3 presser was for core gamers and the way Miyamoto announced Pikmin 3 so matter-of-factly, it was all because of the negative reactions they got from the core market. I believe Nintendo knows they have to give the core fan-base something to look forward to tonight/tomorrow or the reaction for this event will be even worse than E3.

Well I am sick at the moment, so I would agree with that. Moreso when I account that I am unable to determine why I am sick. Was it the walrus meat? The chance encounter with the tsetse fly? I'm having a difficult time understanding. Maybe it's just allergies. But I've never had allergies. I even got tested for allergies. Have you ever been tested for 'em? It is a painful experience - I do not recommend it. Still, why am I feeling like utter tosh? Iunno.

I agree with this 100%, partially because it is factual and yet also because I consider myself a "core" gamer more than not, and would like nothing more than to feast upon such titles endlessly.

Again, I agree with all of this.

However, I'm pointing out that the hollerin' of the netitudes is kind of offbase, since there's a completely logical response to it that was subsequently drowned out by the cacophanous rancor, which is simply that E3 is a press event, and we - as the core crowd - as the ones who will be happy to find our information on the 'net, from interviews, etc. So it is not "for" us. This is NOT to say that we can dismiss the E3 debacle (which it was - a debacle) completely on the grounds that "we'll still look up the gaming blogs and sites." It's merely me saying "guys, chill, we're going to get the info no matter when it comes out."

My real point with the previous post was that if you're this upset now, there's so miniscule a chance you'll want to stick around any longer. Might as well take off and be happy with something else rather than sit with languor. That's all. It's less an inflammatory statement and more a call to logical arms, because in the long run, my fellow gamers enjoying what they have and freely investing money into the machine is a good thing for everyone, especially if it means that they are there to support the things I can't (such as Braid).

Last year's conference wasn't that bad, so it'll be interesting to see if anything new shows up at this conference. I'm certainly not keeping my expectations up, but should anything interesting be announced it'll be good enough for me.
You go to Neoseeker? =O
I found the topic through a Google search. It's the 7th search result on the list with the search terms, nintendo fall 2008 press conference

Nothing solid on who will be liveblogging it yet. Kotaku just posted something saying that they would "post news throughout the night," but nothing about liveblogs. Joystiq hasn't posted anything yet either.

I could pretend to be a live blogger.

Nintendo just revealed Donut Maker. Thrust the Wiimote into various things to make donut holes! Points are calculated based on what you are submerging the slender controller into.

Damn that did nothing but make my sweet tooth twitch, mmmm doughnuts
Oh shit!

Kid Icarus Kart Racerz! Developed by Ubisoft!
This must be their Nintendo-like quality promise coming to fruition.
:applause:

If you buy the deluxe pack you get a bedazzler.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

C'mon Nintendo where's Punch-Out and 83 other games you said you were making because I totally read so on Gamefaqs?
There's probably a press embargo until the american press conference tomorrow afternoon.
Oh HAYULL no.

I will digitally bitchslap people until info pops out of them like candy.

Edit: Oh and Blueswim, thanks for the vote of confidence. :]

So what music do people have queued up to play during this weenie roast?

Personally I'm rocking the Monkey Island 2 soundtrack. That means I am way more awesome than you are.
Is this thing going to start?
Heh.

I remember....I think it was E3 2005 or 2006, and Nintendo's conference was a good hour late. Everyone was sitting in chat rooms making jokes about how "Gosh, Nintendo delays everything."

Edit: Whoa. "DSi." Hmmmm. Internet? Image? Irony? International?

I am listening to Hardball with Chris Matthews, because that is how I roll.

It's either the planters' album my friend put together, The Pogues live, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, or some random Bad Religion. I love choices like these.

EDIT: As it turns out, I hit the NOFX song "The Decline". That should take me through most of the conference.
