Fallout 3 - Gen. Discussion & Info - 'GOTY' Edition w/All 5 DLC Packs 10.13.09

Newest DLC looks great. I really need to play through Fallout 3 again, I finished the game when it first came out and haven't picked it up for any of the DLC. I'll probably just do it all in one shot at this point.

wow, they are now releasing DLC faster than I can finish the last one!

I don't think I'll get Zeta right away, unless it is really well received as I still have to finish Point Lookout.

The DLCs all seem pretty short and barely worth $10 to me. After OA I'm not paying to download any more, OA was a huge let down, even at $5 I would have been disappointed. I'm waiting for the Broken Steel/Point Lookout disc release next month to play those. I'll probably wait for the GOTY release or another DLC disc release for Zeta. I wonder if that will be the last one, the GOTY is supposed to come out in October right? Not leaving much time to release another one after Zeta and still fit it on the GOTY release.

I really love Fallout. As long as they put out DLC, I'll keep buyin to support them in hopes that they'll release even more DLC.

Zeta had better kick ass if it is indeed the final DLC as the website states. I plan on buying BS, PL and Pitt later this month. Although Anchorage was a huge disappointment to me the glitches more than paid for it. Near indestructible Gauss Rifle for the fucking win.

I'm pretty excited for New Vegas, even though we'll be waiting quite some time for it. I trust Obsidian to put out a good RPG, and the setting should allow for potential interaction with some interesting factions from past games, like the New California Republic and the West Coast Brotherhood.

Any tips on how to secure Firelance or is it pure luck based? This random event is absolutely infuriating. For some reason in my game it loves spawning between Oasis and Old Olney making it nearly impossible to find or grab having landed on inaccessible cliffs, highways and crevasses. Sending Dogmeat the Moronic Mutt to search for it is a guaranteed failure. The last spawn just happened five f*cking minutes ago and guess where his indicator ended up after waiting three in game days for his return? INSIDE the damn Deathclaw Sanctuary.

Help... please? ;'(

Just finished all the expansions up to date and so far my order has to be

Point Lookout>Broken Steel>The Pitt>Operation Anchorage.

Point Lookout just had a more fun (and interesting) location and was a nice break from the usual Wasteland adventuring. Especially the
plank of Herzog Zwei mine where you would see someone walk away from the plank then disappear or find a dead body. That or first time coming across the "locals" at the bridge and seeing that you're surrounded by them and learning how friggin fast they are (and how VATS kinda goes against you in this case).
Though now I need Zeta so I have an excuse to play it again and get to level 30 because I've basically discovered all the locations in the game up to now and got all the bobbleheads.

Since I have the PC version, I was able to add the Firelance to my inventory. After using it for a little bit I realized that the Alien Blaster is far superior to the Firelance. Whenever I use the Alien Blaster, almost every enemy gets turned to dust with one shot, while the Firelance took three or four shots—well I am not exactly sure how worse the Firelance was, since it has been a while since I tested it out, but I do remember it not being worth it.

I know that doesn't help you find the Firelance, but I thought I should just let you know how it compared to the Alien Blaster.

Nah, I appreciate the heads up since from what I've read the Firelance is supposedly superior to the Alien Blaster which I already have. I honestly have no need for the weapon since Cross, Fawkes and Dogmeat kill whatever I can't crit. headshot with one of my rifles. I just wanted to try it out and add it to my collection. I wasn't planning on using it exclusively given the rarity of its ammo.

I'm curious... what were your Eng. Weapon stats and the condition of the weapon when you spawned it?

I have no idea what my energy weapon stats were at the time; it has been a while, haha. However, whenever you spawn a weapon it spawns at 100% condition. Basically, whenever why Alien Blaster starts getting a low condition, I just spawn a new one. A while ago I also spawned a thousand something Alien Powercells, so that I wouldn't need to worry about ammo. :D

Ugh. Damn you lucky CPU playing bastards and your spawning any weapon in perfect condition w/ infinite ammo. ;'(

As for the Pyro perk I was never interested most of the flame based weapons so I never got it. Good to know I can finally flake out on searching for the damn thing. Thanks. ^_^

P.S. - Is OA the only DLC where your companions can not accompany you? The reason I ask is because I plan to ditch them for the remaining expansions except BS. I'm tired of babysitting and I'll be struggling for EXP with those three bloodhounds raping everything in sight. ;(

Yeah, my first play through, I never cared for any of the fire-based weapons, either. My second time, though, I decided to try different weapons to keep things interesting. The Shishkebab is pretty sick with the Pyromaniac perk. So is the Heavy Incinerator from Broken Steel. The best part about both of them was the ability to still attack very effectively outside of VATS.

Anyone ever experience a glitch with the Mill Worker Achievement? Basically you cant talk to the guy you need to, to finish the quest. I basically did the original 10, then went on and finished the rest of the Pitt Story. I went back, picked up about 30, and then when I went to drop them off, all of a sudden he doesnt have any speech options. I've read that it is a known bug on Fallout Wiki, but anyone else encounter it, and any chance of..fixing it?

I Had a bug on The Pitt where when I went to the top of the Mill I would fall through the floor and die on impact. Basically I got it fixed by deleting The Pitt then re-downloading it and it was fine. My only solution I know of at least.

You can't bring companions with you to any expansion besides broken steel. Mothership Zeta I assume will also be companion-less.

Yeah MZ will be companion-less. I never really played with anyone besides Dogmeat, made the game too easy, anyways though, so I'm stoked for this one.

Reinstalling had no effect. I saved over my older files, the earliest one I have is before I entered the Pitt. Im considering if I should only just go for the achievement on a seperate save, and continue on with my main character without the cool swag, or go through everything again in hopes that it'll work this time.

I'm probably going to hold out on picking up any DLC until the GOTY version hits on October 13th...long wait :wall:

My question is: Will the GOTY version recognize the original game saves? Also, will it be a whole new slate of achievements? I know in some games such as Lost Planet and Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga it's like starting back at square one.

I'm sure someone who's played the regular and GOTY versions of Oblivion could answer this. If you've got an answer, I'd love to hear it!

I Think only thing that bugs me is all the tight corridors I see in the trailer. Hopefully with it being on a ship it still won't follow a super strict, linear narrative like OA.
What time will this be posted on Live?
I believe the marketplace is updated around 5AM EST. When MvC2 came out, it was around then and mentioned on the board too

I think it's cool how they keep expanding and updating this game. More developers should do this. I think I'll get the GOTY edition later.

I ordered mine through Amazon since I had store credit but for those of you waiting for XBLM it's up now:
Content: Mothership Zeta
Price: 800 Microsoft Points
Availability: Not available in Japan
Dash Text: [ESRB: M (Mature) BLOOD AND GORE,INTENSE VIOLENCE,SEXUAL THEMES,STRONG LANGUAGE,USE OF DRUGS] A strange Alien signal is being broadcast throughout the Capital Wasteland, originating from a crashed UFO. Is it a distress call, or something far more sinister? That question is answered when you find yourself beamed aboard an enormous Alien spacecraft, with only one alternative – to fight your way to the bridge of the ship and secure your escape. Mothership Zeta takes Fallout 3 in an entirely new direction – outer space. Meet new characters and join with them in a desperate bid to escape the Aliens’ clutches. To do so, you’ll wield powerful new weapons, like the Alien Atomizer, Alien Disintegrator and Drone Cannon, and deck yourself out in brand new outfits, like the Gemini-Era Spacesuit and even Samurai Armor. There are no refunds for this item. For more information, see www.xbox.com/live/accounts.

This content is also available for the Games for Windows version of Fallout 3.
So, any impressions, guys? Point Lookout actually worked relatively well on day one, so I hope the same is the case here. Wanna buy this when I get home later.

on the ship already, and am tryin to find a way up to the top of the craft. Its big so far but reminds me of being in raven rock but more......alien

Is it wrong of me to feel apprehensive toward buying MZ until an extensive Wiki detailing its specific glitches and exploits pops up? >_>

lol. the first thing it said when i got abducted.. "you don't feel as lucky anymore".. nice.

just started playing it.. sad that it's the last dlc!

Anyone else get the glitch after the spacewalk on the way to the bridge where the doors won't open? Please help. Sally won't come and open the door for me...

It's okay. A lot of just wandering hallways and killing a ton of the same enemies. My favorite part of Fallout 3 has always been the dialogue driven choices and it seems like none of that is present here. The visuals are cool but the new weapons aren't worth anything.

I like the dialogue as well. Thought it was funny that when you are breakin out of the cell you can say maybe my friend might show up(mysterious stranger)

I finished it and it was ok. Weapons are fun, but too many hallways and killin the same alien.

Prob. a stupid q, but I'll ask anyways, since I've only played Fallout3 a few hours, but is the game still playable after you finish it and the expansions?
I know you can't go past lv30 but can you go around and finish up any sidequests though?
Thanks!

If you have Broken Steel downloaded, you have nothing to worry about.

However, if you do not have Broken Steel downloaded, you must have a separate save before the final mission. If you don't, there is a point of no return and you'll be stuck.

Anybody else fall into a blue "wonderland" and have the game freeze? Honestly, I should have waited, but what I've played so far is incredible!! I love the disintigrator. Its so awesome!!! 49 damage!! Plus, you'll never run out of ammo!!!!!!!!!!
