Fallout New Vegas CE 29.99 at Gamestop

xandez1

CAGiversary!
Hey folks, I hope this hasn't already been posted, but I just picked up Fallout New Vegas Collectors Edition at Gamestop for $29.99. Possibly YMMV. This included both 360 and PS3 versions. Cheers!

Just found out it's not YMMV, but they're unavailable online so check your local stores. Mine here in Brandon, FL still had two of each left. Looks like this includes PC as well.
I've been playing through Fallout New Vegas over the past few weeks, and I have to say, I like New Vegas better than Fallout 3. That could be because I changed my play style for New Vegas though. I went into wanting to explore the world, rather than power through the campaign. In my opinion, that's the only way to play this game. Fallout 3 is great too, but I'm just having more fun with this one. Plus I think the story, at least so far, is better in New Vegas.

Point being, this game is well worth the money. It's a lot of fun. I'm playing on 360, and probably 20 hours in or so, no crashes. I did get stuck in the environment once though. But overall, it doesn't seem very buggy to me so far. I think the patch must have fixed most of the big problems.
I like the atmosphere of Fallout 3 better, but that's probably cause I live 30 minutes away from DC and spent alot of my childhood going into the city with my Dad.

Fallout NV is a superior game, though, barely. The gameplay improvements, while small, add alot of depth. I really enjoy crafting items, recycling ammo, and managing my companions.

The game itself is worth $60. $30 is a total steal, and you actually get the swag!

I'm speeding through the main story on PS3 right now to get the stupid hardcore trophy. Monitoring food/sleep/water is such a pain in the ass. It almost makes me want to not fast travel anywhere because your character is instantly deprived of everything when you do.

Once I get done with the platinum on PS3, I'm going to start up a game with the CE I bought for 360 yesterday and just explore the world and not worry about the quests.

hardcore dont seem that bad, just fast travel to goodsprings when you're nearby and load up on the clean free h2o, nap an hour here or there and eat when health is needed. of course i'm only 8 hours in

Anyone that happened to miss out on this deal and still wants a PS3 Fallout New Vegas CE let me know.

My wife picked up one the other day (not knowing i got one already)
We're not flippers/Hoarders so just go ahead and PM me and i'll ship it 32.84 (WA tax) + w/e the cost of shipping would be for standard (unless you want priority, it's your call)

Though it's a fairly heavy CE box, but the hardbox is well made imo.

We can discuss the details through PM. (Yes it is a gutted one, but everything is in perfect conditions, even the casino chips are sealed)

If not I was just thinking about returning it.

I think it was just more irritating because I was blazing through the game on purpose. I just finished my hardcore speed run and it took 12 hours flat. I was under some kind of status effect pretty much the entire time. Weighted ammo doesn't really matter that much unless of course you want to carry missiles. The worst part was my head got crippled during the final quest, during which you can't see a doctor and I couldn't find a doctor bag anywhere. So the random screen blurring really sucked and I had no way of curing it.

Just got back with my copy from Salisbury, MD. I went to the GS by Best Buy and they still had one left after I got mine. I think the mall and the Gamestop in Fruitland still have at least one each too.

The GameStop I went to said some guy stopped in and bought all 9 sealed copies of CE. I bought the one opened one. The game, chips, and cards were still unopened so no harm no foul. I plan on using the playing cards and game. So im glad this guy was picky. The box everything comes in is pretty sweet.

For $29 its a great deal. I never buy new games anymore, except maybe Portal 2!!!!!!

Who does that? I understand picking up 2 (one for yourself and maybe one second for a buddy or for flipping) but 9? The guy dropped about $300 after tax.

I found one near about 30 mins from my place, went there to pick it up and it was gutted , so I asked them if the only one they had was opened and they said yes. I got home and checked inside to find the Making of DVD was missing. I called them up and they said that I could bring it back and exchange it for a different one :bomb:. I told them I was pretty far away and asked if they could send it to a closer store. They said they could not, but they'd hold it. He then preceded to say he was opening it up to see if it had the DVD :wall:. It did not, so he opened the next one :wall::wall:, neither did it!! He suggested I contact Bethesda or Obsidian...

...fuck this and fuck Gamestop!!!

Damn. Now I'm nervous about the one my buddy picked up for me last night. Although mine still has the original $79.99 price tag on the front on the shrinkwrap and on the price tag it has the 10/19/2010(release day) date on it.

My gamestop has like 3-4 of the 360 version if anyone is interested. Same as popaloo, not looking to flip just letting fellow CAGers know that it's available should they not be able to find it near them.

I'm shocked that the are opening up the collector's editions. I thought the CE's would be save from being gutted but it seems nothing is from Gamestop's hands. I picked up a copy yesterday for the PS3. Sealed with everything inside. It's such a good deal. The extra ten dollars for all the goodies is very much worth it. Thanks OP.

They want to get one on the wall for people to look at they're going to gut it. I much prefer the Gamestops that either keep the CE's on display behind the cash registers, or high up on the wall where a ladder is required to get to them.

Again look carefully at your sealed copy mine has the little small holes on it, so this is an official factory seal not the ghetto GS reseal. When I picked mine up it was placed high which required them to stand on a ladder and get it.

Just an FYI, for those buying & shipping for other CAG. I just shipped one out to someone and pretty neatly packed it cost $9.20 parcel post USPS. It didn't quality for first class or media mail because of the weight. With delivery confirmation, it's $10 even (5-7 days to deliver).

Mine has the little holes in the shrinkwrap as well.:D:applause:

I grabbed a LE PC copy at my Gamestop today. I'm debating if I want to keep it, or just get the regular edition, and save the $10.

For those who opened theirs:
Are the extras really nice quality?
Are the cards playable or more for collecting?
The Pre-order DLC some mentioned, is that only for LE copies?

Thanks.

I have a two 360 sealed copies for 32.xxplus shipping each . I am taking these back on Thursday unless someone here wants them.

you should post on the trading thread, anyway you have 30 days from the purchase date to return them

It would qualify for media mail. Don't know who told you it wouldn't. Maybe it having playing cards + poker chips in there means it doesn't "officially" qualify, but the weight should be no issue. You probably could have shipped it priority for $7-$8 if you found your own box & printed postage through paypal. For some reason, Priority under the 5 lb range is usually cheaper than Parcel post. Parcel starts getting much cheaper once you go above 5 lbs.

If you dig back in the thread, you'll find this little jem of an unboxing video

The pre order DLC card theoretically could be in new copies of the standard edition of the game at gamestop, but the odds are they've sold out of those from the launch shipment a few months back. These CEs have it because they've been sitting around since the initial release

I've opened up mine, although I haven't opened the cards yet....overall, it is fairly decent quality...at $10 more than the standard edition new, I wouldn't feel ripped off...but there are only 6 chips, and the platinum chip might make a nice paper weight and the graphic novel isn't all that awesome (although it fills in some of the initial back story) but all in all, the stuff isn't all that amazingly cool. I wouldn't drive a long way to get it but if it was at my local store and I dug the fallout series, one probably wouldn't feel bad about throwing down the extra coin for it.

I believe Media Mail no longer includes Video Games. The following link is from an eBay discussion thread, reflecting a change in USPS Media Mail Policy taking effect September 2009.
EDIT: See the next post below for the text of the policy. :D Thanks, IATCG!

If someone has more current information that is contrary to the above, please let me know! :D In my experience, Media Mail is about as fast as First Class if you're remaining in the same state. Media Mail usually takes about a full week if going cross-country (USA)

Computer Readable-Media Eligibility for Media Mail Prices
September 2009

PS-334 (473.2.2i)

This Customer Support Ruling discusses the eligibility of computer-readable media at the Media Mail prices.

Domestic Mail Manual (DMM) 473.2.2i provides that computer-readable media containing prerecorded information and guides or scripts prepared solely for use with such media may be mailed at Media Mail prices.
Media Mail, or “book rate,” as it was formerly known, was initially designed in 1938 to provide lower postal prices for the mailing of books. From the beginning of Media Mail, the policy behind this classification has been to encourage the flow of educational materials through the mail. As technology developed and the means of disseminating information changed, Congress expanded the Media Mail classification gradually to include such material as films.

While video games may be read on computers, unlike books or films eligible for Media Mail prices, which predominantly further educational or informational goals, games, including board games and games in an electronic format, are used primarily for entertainment and they do not serve the same purpose as books, films, or other qualifying Media Mail. In 1984, in creating the computer-readable media classification, the then Postal Rate Commission (PRC) stated “a review of the historical background of the special fourth-class (Media Mail) mail subclass demonstrates that the purpose of this favored subclass is to promote ‘educational, cultural, scientific, and informational values’ (39 U.S.C. sub-section 3622(b)(8)) and indicates that at intermittent points in time, this subclass has been enlarged to include technologically newer methods of disseminating information. The Postal Service’s proposed changes continue this process by recognizing that computer-readable media …contain information similar to those already eligible to be mailed at special fourth-class rates and further the same goals.”

In conclusion, video games, whether on CD-ROM, diskettes, or similar software, regardless of form, or playable systems including computers, do not meet the standards for Media Mail. In addition, storage devices such as “portable hard drives,” "thumb drives," "flash drives," "jump-drives," and "USB drives” for use with computers are also not eligible for Media Mail prices. Qualifying computer-readable media may contain no advertising except when provided for by standard, e.g. incidental announcements of other books with books in a computer-readable format.

lol I wouldn't recommend shipping games/strategy guides using USPS Media Mail. You could try and might get away from it, but there is a possibility that the USPS will open your package and have it deliver back to you.

PS. It happened to me several times using Media Mail for strategy guides.

picked one up at my local gamestop, thanks for the heads up. been waiting to pick this up after getting done with fallout 3

Most likely it was because you use priority mail boxes as backing inside your packaging for guides, as you reported when you made a thread about that.
I've sent hundreds of guides via Media Mail and never got one returned. For games, yes - i wouldn't send media mail. Have to pay up for Priority mail if its over 13oz.

Most USPS employees don't care if you send guides via media mail since they're basically like books/magazines. Like Pooky, I've sent hundreds of guides via media mail and never had a problem.

One of the most interesting packages arrived for a few weeks ago from Goozex. It was in a Priority mail box but with a first class label. The Priority mail box wasn't even hidden, it was a normally folded Priority mail box... no brown paper wrapping and it wasn't flipped inside out (not like you can do that anymore anyway). I don't get how that reached me without any issues.

Got one of these today, no issues... they were in the back room, still sealed (at least my copy was.)

For anyone wanting to trade in a regular copy (Xbox 360) I had him check the current TIV, ~$4... better off waiting until they aren't on sale for the TIV to go back up.
Which is why I said it wouldn't "officially" qualify for media mail. You can send it through media mail anyway. They never check. I send items through media mail from time to time and have never had a problem.
I tried to send some video games through media mail before and had the package returned to me.

$10? I think you could possibly use a prority flat-rate media box (11-7/8" x 3-3/8" x 13-5/8") to ship it faster and cost less. The CE box isn't thicker than 3-3/8", is it?

I want to get the 360 version but don't want to drive 80 miles round-trip to the closest store that might have it according to the inventory check.

Nice try to save face but your first statement says "It would qualify for media mail." which is just plain wrong.
Why do people even still use media mail? It is only like 30 cents cheaper than first class and takes twice as long
Try sending something that's 14 oz through First Class. Report back on how that works.
"Video games, whether on CD-ROM, diskettes, or similar software, or playable systems including computers, do not meet the standards for Media Mail."
I know (now). I was disputing his statement that they never check. They do open the boxes and check sometimes.

I packed it in a Cisco IP phone box, was all I had. It wound up weighing quite a bit, some from the packing material but mostly the CE box itself. I rarely ship anything bigger than a DVD case though. Priority boxes would have cost the same but I didn't have one at the time.

Just send them via medium priority mail flat rate box(long version) for $10.95

That's the easiest way to do it, and through paypal it gets free DC.

You might wanna try Best Buy if you're looking to trade in an older copy of FO NV. They were giving $25 a copy as of yesterday for both the vanilla edition and the CE.:D

Picked up a PC version in manchester,ct (not the one in the mall). Got the usual I don't think we have that line (online said they did) but he went in back came out and said they had a whole pile. Was tempted to pick up a few but I only bought the one.

I bought one sealed at the Parkside Mall location in Pinellas Park, Fla. There is still one left. They have it sitting in the Power Sale bin.

That's pretty cool about getting the GS Preorder bonus with the CE! I actually wanted that dlc code as it has the "trusty vault 13 canteen" which helps a little when playing hardcore mode (which I intend to do).

My dilemma is whether of not to keep mine sealed for now, or open it and trade it back in. I KNOW I'm not going to get around to playing this game for a while (still playing through FO3 at the moment, with a backlog to boot) and realistically by the time I get around to playing this there will likely be a GOTY version out. I could just keep the CE extras for $5 and pick up the GOTY later on, and then have myself an "ultimate hybrid CE" like I have with my FO3 (CE box with GOTY game +DLC). I am just not 100% sure this will actually get a GOTY version? The DLC releases seem to be pretty slow and the game as a whole not quite as well received as it's predecessor. It's possible they may not think it worth their while to develop and release all the planned DLC if the sales are low?
